You can add this rarely showcased extreme sport to the list of death-defying stunts that Tom Cruise has done for the spy franchise.
The newest adventure of Ethan Hunt and his IMF comrades will be making its way into theaters in a couple of weeks. Recently, Tom Cruise and his frequent collaborator, Christopher McQuarrie, are championing the theater-going practice and good ol’ fashion cinematic experiences as they encourage audiences to see both Oppenheimer and Barbie to support theaters. This is in addition to their determination to give movie-goers the most thrilling entertainment for their latest outing, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. The new featurette takes you behind the scenes of another giant set piece involving a little-known extreme sport called Speedflying. It’s both exactly as it sounds and exactly what you’d expect from Cruise and Company.
The official synopsis from Paramount Pictures reads,
In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.
The new installment sports an impressive cast that includes Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Mariela Garriga, Henry Czerny, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Charles Parnell, Frederick Schmidt, Cary Elwes, Mark Gatiss, Indira Varma and Rob Delaney.
Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie call the shots behind the scenes as producers of the film. Executive Producers on the movie include David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Tommy Gormley, Chris Brock and Susan E. Novick.
The script was written by Christopher McQuarrie & Erik Jendresen and, of course, Christopher McQuarrie returns to direct this entry as well as the next.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to have fun at Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One in theaters on July 12.
