Peregrine Health Services Invites Entries for Trauma Innovation Award
The leader in trauma and emergency department consulting spotlights innovations that improve trauma care and program management.

Peregrine Health Services, the leader in consulting services for trauma centers and emergency departments, invites trauma centers and networks to submit entries for the second annual Peregrine Award for Trauma Innovation, which highlights groundbreaking solutions to today’s challenges in trauma patient care and program management.

Peregrine is a team of clinical and healthcare management professionals with nearly two decades of experience helping hospitals build better trauma programs and emergency departments. The firm established the award in 2023 to recognize and disseminate fresh ideas that result in better care for injured patients.

“We spotlight the kind of innovations that lead to real improvements in trauma care and program management, but often receive little attention in the wider trauma community,” said Mark Feinberg, CEO and managing partner of Peregrine Health Services. “We also want to support visionary trauma professionals by recognizing the trauma leaders who developed these innovations.”

Representatives from any trauma center or regional trauma network worldwide may nominate their organization for the Peregrine Award for Trauma Innovation, presented in two categories: Level I or Level II trauma centers and Level III, Level IV, or Level V trauma centers.

The 2023 Peregrine Award winner in the Level I or II trauma centers category was UC Health Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, CO. The UC Health team developed a standardized platform for documenting and reviewing performance improvement and patient safety (PIPS) events. The platform includes a comprehensive PIPS dictionary, standardized guidance on levels of review, referral letter templates, links to key information, and other resources.

UC Health’s winning innovation was submitted by Jessica Cofran, MSN, RN, TCRN, CSTR, CAISS, trauma informatics manager for UC Health Northern Colorado Region, and Jamie Teasley-Bennett, BSN, RN, TCRN, lead trauma nurse clinician for UC Health Medical Center of the Rockies.

For the Level III, IV or V trauma centers category, the 2023 Peregrine Award winner was Franciscan Health Crown Point in Indiana. The Franciscan Health team created an initiative to overhaul its SBIRT process (Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment). The new process incorporates a peer recovery coach and a substance use disorder licensed social worker who round on patients daily. The reworked SBIRT process enables open discussions with patients who screen positive for substance or alcohol use disorder, with improved intervention and referral rates.

Franciscan Health’s winning innovation was submitted by Jennifer Homan, RN, MSN, CPTI, the hospital’s manager of trauma and injury prevention.

The winners of the 2024 Peregrine Award for Trauma Innovation will be selected by an independent panel of national trauma experts, who will evaluate submissions based on their creativity, cost-effectiveness, efficiency, scalability, and quality. The panelists are:

  • Chris Cribari, MD, FACS, medical director acute care surgery, UC Health (Level I), Loveland, CO
  • Peter Fischer, MD, MS, NRP, FACS, trauma medical director, Regional One Health (Level I) Memphis, TN
  • Debra Kitchens, MBA, BSN, RN, CEN, TCRN, NRP, trauma services manager, Prisma Health (Level I), Greenville, SC
  • Elizabeth Freeman, BSN, MHA, RN, TCRN, trauma program director, Atrium Health (Level III), Concord, NC
  • Tim Murphy, MSN, RN, ACNP-BC, CEN, TCRN, FAEN, trauma PI coordinator, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (Level I), New Brunswick, NJ
  • Melissa Sorensen, BS, MSN, RN, CEN, CSTR, CPHQ, corporate trauma registry manager, Mountain Division, CommonSpirit Health (Level I), Parker, CO

Peregrine has created a streamlined application process that simplifies the process for trauma centers seeking to nominate themselves for a Peregrine award. Teams can use the nomination form at (https://trauma-news.com/innovation-award/) to submit a description of the problem the team faced, the innovation developed, and the results it achieved. The team will need to provide additional information and data if the entry gets selected for the final judging round.

Each winning organization will receive a financial grant that can be directed to the program needs of its choice. The Level I-II winner will receive $2,500.00, and the Level III-IV-V winner will receive $2,500.00. The winners will be honored during a special “Profiles in Trauma Innovation” online event in May 2024. They will also be featured in the Trauma Innovation Special Report published in June 2024.

Atlanta Dental Spa Wins Back-to-Back ‘Best Cosmetic Dentist’ Awards in 2024
My Alpharetta and My Buckhead Magazines Acknowledge Atlanta Dental Spa as the ‘Best Cosmetic Dentist’ Voted by Local Residents

Atlanta Dental Spa, known for its dedication to patient comfort and innovative approach to cosmetic dentistry, has proudly accepted two back-to-back "Best Cosmetic Dentist of 2024" awards, voted by local communities through My Alpharetta and My Buckhead magazines. These prominent publications, distributed to 20,000 households and 5,000 businesses, acknowledge Atlanta Dental Spa's exceptional contributions to cosmetic dentistry through cutting-edge technology and a comprehensive approach that transcends traditional dentistry.

The Johns Creek practice secured the "Best Cosmetic Dentist of 2024" title as conferred by My Alpharetta. Simultaneously, its Buckhead office received the same Cosmetic Dentistry award from My Buckhead. With 17 and 21 nominees, respectively, Atlanta Dental Spa was voted highest, solidifying its status as the community's top choice for cosmetic dentistry.

Founder and co-owner Dr. Peter Boulden expressed his gratitude stating, "Our entire team is dedicated to helping patients achieve a healthy, beautiful smile while staying relaxed and stress-free. Going to the dentist does not have to feel like a dental appointment. To be recognized twice by our community for our cosmetic dentistry is truly an honor. It pushes us to keep challenging the way dentistry should be done."

This success can be attributed to Atlanta Dental Spa's comprehensive approach to cosmetic dentistry services. From transformative Botox treatments and advanced Invisalign procedures to precision-crafted veneers and seamless bonding, the practice addresses a spectrum of cosmetic dentistry needs under one roof.

The awards further validate Atlanta Dental Spa's commitment to patient satisfaction, supported by an extensive library of patient testimonials. Catalina, a patient with a history of dental troubles since childhood, shared, "When I came here, I was incredibly self-conscious of my smile. I found a place where I felt like I had a very smooth process. They gave me my smile back!"

Karey, another patient who overcame dental anxiety, remarked, "I just felt so calm. When I got into the actual office chair, it was the first time I wasn't shaking. When I met Dr. Hamilton, it was just instant."

Adding to its distinction, Atlanta Dental Spa operates an in-house dental lab where skilled ceramists craft crowns, bridges, implants, and other custom cosmetic dental solutions. The advanced 3D technology and internal capability ensure expedited processes and a personalized touch, providing patients with optimal results tailored to their unique needs.

With nearly 2,000 5-star reviews, Atlanta Dental Spa has been a trusted dental practice since its founding in 2004. The practice offers a Complete Health Dentistry approach, including general dentistry, restorative procedures, cosmetic enhancements, oral surgery, and advanced technologies, making it the go-to choice for all dental needs.

The "Best Cosmetic Dentist" awards not only celebrate Atlanta Dental Spa's excellence in cosmetic dentistry but also reinforce its position as a community-centric practice that continues to transform smiles and elevate patient experiences.

About 2,000 Youth Visited the Holocaust Museum in Porto to Mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day
The entire day was accompanied by heavy security for the museum and the youth who visited the site, after the museum had been closed to the general public since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 due to concerns for the safety of visitors and the local Jewish community.

Hall of Names at the Museum of Holocaust in Porto

Dr. Michael Rothwell, director of the Holocaust Museum in Porto, together with Portuguese teenagers who participated in the memorial service for the victims of the Holocaust on International Holocaust Remembrance Day (CIP/CJP - BIZARRO)

The Holocaust Museum in the northern city of Porto, Portugal, marked International Holocaust Remembrance Day last Friday by hosting some 2,000 middle- and high-school students from schools all over the country. The ceremony was brought forward by one day from the date set in 2005 by the UN General Assembly as the International Day of Remembrance for the six million Jews murdered by the Nazis between 1938 and 1945.

The entire day was accompanied by heavy security for the museum and the youth who visited the site, after the museum had been closed to the general public since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 due to concerns for the safety of visitors and the local Jewish community.

Museum staff prepared a program for the young visitors that included an introduction to the genocide perpetrated against the Jews of Europe during those years. Each school that participated in the day held its own memorial ceremony, which included lighting a memorial candle in the museum’s Names Room, a unique space documenting the names of tens of thousands of Jews murdered in the Holocaust.

In the three years since its establishment, the Porto Holocaust Museum, the only one on the Iberian Peninsula, has hosted some 150,000 youth. Visitors to the museum learn about what happened before, during and after the Holocaust, and a visit to the precisely planned and designed space leaves a strong impression on the visitors. Among the exhibits at the site are a reproduction of sleeping cells from the Auschwitz death camp, artifacts and documents that belonged to survivors who fled the Nazis to Porto.

“Every year, about 50,000 youth visit the museum from schools all over the country, a number that constitutes about 5% of all school children in the country. Here they communicate with us and we feel they understand and love us,” said Michael Rothwell, director of the Holocaust Museum whose grandparents were murdered in Auschwitz.

On Friday, January 26th, the Staten Island nonprofit organization, The GRACE Foundation, alongside St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School, broke the Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Human Infinity Symbol to raise awareness surrounding autism.  It marks the Second World Record for The GRACE Foundation, the first for St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School, and the third World Record set in the borough.

“Participating in this Guinness World Record event is more than an achievement; it's a vivid reminder of our ongoing mission at the GRACE Foundation,” said Cathy Del Priore, Executive Director of The GRACE Foundation. “The infinity symbol we created represents a never-ending cycle of support, love, and advocacy for neurodiversity. “We couldn’t be more proud of our students for being a part of this record breaking event,” said Father Michael Reilly, Principal of St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School. “They’ve made history alongside The GRACE Foundation and demonstrated their commitment to our community and this is something that they will carry with them forever.”

Last year, The GRACE Foundation broke its First World Record by creating the World’s Largest Human Puzzle Piece at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park. The #PuzzleForAutism Team, made up of Marvel Consults, PRcision LLC, Tekie Geek, Staten Island Media Group, The Integrated Athletic Initiative, Trade Mark Graphics, and The Carl V. Bini Memorial Fund, also organized and executed Friday’s Record Breaking Event which was sponsored by Empire State Bank, Northfield Bank, Catholic Charities of Staten Island, Tekie Geek, SIBOR, Merlino & Gonzalez, Hydr8 Nyc, and Victoria’s Educational Service.

“This event is a significant milestone,” said Brian Licata of Marvel Consults. “We didn’t just break a world record; we are breaking down barriers. It symbolizes our endless commitment to fostering inclusivity and understanding for the neurodiverse community, a commitment that we at the GRACE Foundation hold close to our hearts.”

The previous World Record holders brought together 998 people, this past Friday, 1,540 people were counted setting the new record. In addition to breaking the record, the event will also be featured in a segment being created for the nationally syndicated television show View Point With Dennis Quaid. The feature is slated to run this coming April during autism awareness month.

Neurodivergent Leaders Find a Voice at Davos to Make the World Economic Forum Accessible to All

Neurodivergent Leaders Find a Voice at Davos to Make the World Economic Forum Accessible to All

A newly formed advocacy group called "Neurodivergent and Neurodistinct Leaders in Davos" is proud to announce the following: Last week in Davos at the World Economic Forum ’24, the main theme was about rebuilding trust in an increasingly polarized world with a focus on the acceleration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into every facet of our lives, the skills of the future, climate change, and increasingly complex social problems that will define the 21st century.

One neurodivergent leader, Dr. Maureen Dunne, set out to drive change at the event. Dr. Maureen Dunne represented the neurodivergent community in Davos as a speaker on several panels and events, including Top Tier Impact’s panel on Conscious Leadership as well as key speaking roles at events such as the World Economic Forum Social Impact Investor gathering.

Recognizing the importance of establishing opportunities for other neurodivergent leaders to contribute to the conversation, Dunne started the “Neurodivergent and Neurodistinct Leaders in Davos” group, teaming up with Silvan Ruthenberg, Global Head, Institute of Neurodiversity, and Denise Brodey, Senior Contributor at Forbes.

Their goal: To make the conversation more accessible by leading the first-ever hybrid panel discussion mirroring some of the topics and themes of WEF ’24.

Following Dr. Dunne’s panel on Conscious Leadership, the first kickoff meeting took place from the Swiss Alps where neurodivergent leaders around the world logged in remotely to contribute to the conversation. Silvan Ruthenberg and the Institute of Neurodiversity helped spread the word, and the first meeting was met with excitement: finally, there is a forum where neurodivergent people can contribute to the conversation.

“This perspective must reach the mainstream zeitgeist,” noted Dr. Dunne. “So many organizations can benefit from more cognitive diversity and universal design, and so many neurodivergent people have been left out of the equation. This message is finally starting to resonate with business leaders. We need to get this right. It opens up so much potential for everyone.”

Throughout the week, Maureen represented the community in Davos and displayed a hand-drawn sign that read, "Neurodiversity is Welcome Here." During WEF, she also formed small groups of neurodivergent leaders and, collectively, they found their own voice by meeting in quiet areas in the Swiss Alps to discuss the major themes being presented in Davos. She documented spaces at Davos that are sensory-friendly and created vehicles for participation. The group is working on a report on how the Davos experience can be more accessible.

"I see future generations as being the most triumphant about their differences," remarked Brodey. "They have been taught, often early on, that they are not disabled but different."

Dunne added, "Creating opportunities to make the Davos experience more accessible so that neurodivergent leaders can contribute to shaping the global conversation, even remotely, is a great start. Many conversations happening in Davos are focused on the big global problems we need to solve. Neuroinclusion and valuing all kinds of minds is vital and must be a priority for our collective future."

Ruthenberg put it this way, paraphrasing Confucius: "The one who moves mountains starts by carrying small stones."
