ORtelligence Introduces Rep+TM, an AI-Enabled Surgical Support Software Application
Rep+ will better enable orthopedic MedTech Representatives to provide remote support and Clinician training, and is now available to hospitals via the Avail telepresence platform

ORtelligence, a healthcare technology company designing and launching software that ensures surgical teams have the right information, equipment, and support for optimal patient outcomes, is proud to unveil its latest innovation, Rep+TM. Rep+ is a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), AI-enabled surgical support software application designed to revolutionize the surgical process and enhance patient care by facilitating a medical professional's efforts to deliver support, training and drive efficiency for surgical teams. Rep+ is now available commercially to MedTech companies to be used for product training, and for use in hospitals via the Avail telepresence platform.

Rep+ is a groundbreaking AI-enabled software application that allows orthopedic MedTech representatives to interact remotely with the onsite surgical team via a custom user interface that displays all the tools and implants required for surgical cases. Rep+ is designed to ensure that the product expertise of MedTech representatives is accessible in the operating room even when they can't be physically present, by enabling the representative to remotely guide the surgical support team, reducing potential for equipment confusion and potentially shaving minutes off a procedure.

“This technology is aligned with ORtelligence's core mission: to deliver cutting-edge software that ensures surgical teams have the right information, equipment, and support for optimal patient outcomes,” stated Tim Donnelly, CEO of ORtelligence. “By harnessing real-time data capture and deep machine learning, the platform offers a suite of tools for case preparation, remote support, inventory management, and real-time analytics. Rep+ is poised to make a significant impact on surgical venues by facilitating collaboration that can reduce waste, cut costs, and enhance the quality of care.”

MedTech companies who wish to use Rep+ may purchase the software to train their teams allowing junior representatives to familiarize themselves with case equipment layouts and usage more quickly. In operating rooms, Rep+ will be available through an integration with the Avail telepresence platform. The Avail console in the operating room contains high-definition cameras, audio, edge-computing and a connection to the cloud, along with a large screen so that remote users can interact with the onsite surgical team.

Using Avail, MedTech representatives can log into a procedure remotely and use the video cameras and telestration features on the Avail console to interact visually and audibly with surgical teams. The MedTech representatives can use the Rep+ software locally while sharing the application through Avail to the surgical team on the large Avail console monitor, sharing visuals of surgical trays specific to that case and providing information about the instruments to the surgical staff.

One of Rep+’s unique attributes is its patented user interface that shows users the required implants and tools for every step of a surgical procedure. The interface simplifies instrument identification, instructions for use, virtual expert support, and implant/supply consumption tracking, making it an indispensable tool for surgical support teams.

“We are very excited about the partnership with ORT and the opportunity for Avail's orthopedic MedTech customers to access Rep+ to support their surgical teams,” stated Daniel Hawkins, Avail CEO. “The future of healthcare looks smarter and more informed because of the innovation going on in software, and with Avail, surgical teams and MedTech companies can leverage efficiencies, data and knowledge that will be gained from Rep+ and other software applications that will be available on the Avail platform in the future, without adding more hardware to the operating room.”

Athletes Heal Better, Return to Play Sooner With ZetrOZ Systems’ sam Ultrasound Treatment and PRP Than With PRP Alone

Athletes Heal Better, Return to Play Sooner With ZetrOZ Systems’ sam Ultrasound Treatment and PRP Than With PRP Alone
A new study shows the combination of sustained acoustic medicine and platelet-rich plasma provides better outcomes, reinforcing clinical research on the efficacy of long-duration ultrasound.

Elite athletes regularly use platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections for soft tissue healing without surgery or steroids. A new study shows that athletes return to play more quickly, with less pain and better overall outcomes, when treated with a combination of PRP and ZetrOZ Systems’ sustained acoustic medicine (sam®) technology than with PRP alone.

The study, published in Orthopedic and Muscular System: Current Research1 in August 2023, examined the cases of 35 elite college-age football and track athletes with grade II hamstring strains, quadriceps strains, or patellar tendinopathy, commonly called “jumper’s knee.” None of the patients’ injuries had responded to conservative treatment after one week.

Athletes often use PRP to enhance healing from soft tissue injuries and reduce the need for surgical interventions, corticosteroids, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Long-duration ultrasound treatment is becoming a common treatment for soft-tissue injuries, with many studies documenting its effectiveness in speeding recovery.

Researchers divided the athletes into two groups, with half receiving the PRP treatment alone and half receiving both PRP injections and long-duration ultrasound treatment with the ZetrOZ sam® 2.0 wearable ultrasound unit for four hours daily for two weeks.

At the end of the treatment period, the athletes who received both PRP and ZetrOZ sam® long-duration ultrasound showed better outcomes than those who received only PRP:

  • Return to play (RTP) was 21.33 days faster with sam® and PRP compared to PRP alone. (p < 0.0001)
  • sam® and PRP decreased mean pain scores (NRS) by 0.88 points compared to PRP alone. (p = 0.0086)
  • sam® and PRP increased the global rating of change (GROC), an overall health improvement scale with a range of –7 to 7, by 1.28 points compared to PRP alone. (p < 0.0001)

This new study builds on a body of more than 40 studies, including 20 level I-V clinical research studies, randomized-placebo-controlled trials, and other publications confirming the efficacy of ZetrOZ Systems’ technology in treating back pain, arthritis pain, and strain injuries of tendons and ligaments, and its ability to improve recovery, range of motion, and strength.

“We’re pleased to see yet another study that confirms that our sam® wearable ultrasound unit accelerates tissue healing, relieves pain and helps people return to doing what they love to do,” said George K. Lewis, Ph.D., founder, president, and CEO of ZetrOZ Systems. “We’re especially pleased to see a study demonstrating that sustained acoustic medicine system facilitates and enhances the ability of other therapies, in this case, a regenerative medicine therapy like PRP.”

The study’s authors note that the improvements are significant in many ways: “A protracted RTP can have deleterious effects on the athlete’s physical and behavioral health, resulting in poor academic performance, affecting future athletic opportunities, and negatively impacting their team. Thus, reducing downtime while ensuring players are fully capable of performing is vital.”

The researchers concluded: “Our findings suggest that patients being treated with PRP therapy for healing a soft tissue injury may receive additional benefits with the addition of 14-day Long Duration Ultrasound therapy. The combination of PRP+LDU therapy provides a significant reduction in time to return to sport without impacting the long-term durability of the soft tissue. It increases pain reduction and overall health improvement for patients recovering from a sport-related injury. Non-invasive LDU therapy provides a valuable tool to expedite tissue regeneration and should be considered by practitioners to augment regenerative medicine approaches such as PRP.”

Five Nights at Freddy’s featurette goes behind the scenes of horror video game adaptation

A featurette gives a behind the scenes look at the horror video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s, coming to theatres and Peacock

We’re just eleven days away from the October 27th theatrical and Peacock streaming service release of the long-awaited horror video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s, and today a featurette has arrived online to offer us a glimpse behind the scenes of the film. Interviewed in this short featurette are director Emma Tammi, producer Jason Blum, and cast members – including the actors who play the homicidal animatronics at the heart of the story! You can check it out in the embed above.

Five Nights at Freddy’s stars Matthew Lillard (Scream), Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Game), Mary Stuart Masterson (Benny & Joon), Elizabeth Lail (You), Piper Rubio (Holly & Ivy), and Kat Conner Sterling (A Week Away). The film follows a troubled security guard as he begins working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the night shift at Freddy’s won’t be so easy to make it through.

Stunt performers Kevin Foster (WandaVision), Jade Kindar-Martin (Interview with the Vampire), and Jess Weiss (Mayfair Witches) play the animatronics Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, and Chica.

The video game takes place in Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a darker version of Chuck-E-Cheese, where an animatronic animal band performs kiddy songs by day, and goes on murderous rampages by night. The goal of the game is survive a night locked inside, knowing that a furry death machine might jump out of the dark at any moment.

This adaptation was originally set up at Warner Bros., where Gil Kenan (Monster House) was going to direct the film from a screenplay he was writing with Tyler Burton Smith (the Child’s Play remake). Then the project moved over to Blumhouse, where Chris Columbus (Home Alone) was attached to direct it for several years. But now it has gone into production with Emma Tammi – director of The Wind, Into the Dark: Delivered, and Into the Dark: Blood Moon – at the helm, working from a screenplay she wrote with Seth Cuddeback (Mateo) and video game creator Scott Cawthon. Tragedy Girls writers Tyler MacIntyre and Chris Lee Hill share story credit with Cawthon.

Five Nights at Freddy’s is being produced by Blumhouse, in association with Striker Entertainment. Cawthon is a producer alongside Blumhouse founder Jason Blum. Russell Binder is executive producing. Jim Henson’s Creature Shop is handling the special effects that help bring the homicidal animatronic animals to life on the screen.

The film has been rated PG-13 for “strong violent content, bloody images and language.”

New RPAN and MITA Survey Shows Overwhelming Public Opposition to Proposed Medicare Cuts

New RPAN and MITA Survey Shows Overwhelming Public Opposition to Proposed Medicare Cuts
Comprehensive National Survey Also Showed Overwhelming Support for Better Healthcare Equity and Removing Barriers to Imaging Care

MITA Logo

MITA Logo

A comprehensive new national survey conducted by the Radiology Business Management Association's Radiology Patient Action Network (RPAN) and the Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA) indicates strong opposition among Americans to proposed cuts in Medicare reimbursement rates for healthcare providers.

The poll found that 76% of respondents disagreed with reducing payments to doctors and other healthcare providers for Medicare services. Additionally, 53% agreed that cutting payments to providers is equivalent to cutting Medicare itself. Forty-nine percent were extremely concerned and 31% were somewhat concerned about potential reimbursement cuts to doctors.

"This data clearly shows that the American people do not support cuts to Medicare providers that could reduce access to quality care," said Bob Still, Executive Director of RPAN. "We urge Congress and the Administration to listen to the people and reconsider these proposed reimbursement reductions that could seriously impact patient care across the country."

There was also overwhelming opposition to paying healthcare providers less for imaging services like mammograms, with 74% disagreeing with proposed cuts. Approximately 73% agreed that the government should be investing more in lifesaving diagnostic imaging.

"Cutting reimbursements now would only further damage providers that are still recovering from COVID-19," said Patrick Hope, Executive Director of MITA. "Ensuring adequate funding for imaging services that detect diseases early and save lives needs to remain a top priority."

The principle of healthcare equity also resonated strongly. About 76% believed that all Americans deserve access to optimal healthcare regardless of non-medical factors. Many had experienced barriers to imaging care over the past two years.

"Lawmakers need to keep equity in mind and avoid changes that might impede access," said Still. "Investing in critical services while promoting healthcare equity should be priority number one."

The wide-ranging poll was conducted from Oct. 11-13 among 1,200 Americans. It has a +/- 2.8 percentage point margin of error. RPAN and MITA urge Congress and the Administration to fully consider public opinion and avoid imposing cuts that could hurt healthcare providers and Medicare patients. Investing in critical services like diagnostic imaging while promoting healthcare equity should be central aims of policymakers.

Black Book Research Names Infinx Healthcare as a Top 10 Vendor for RCM Software and Shortlists Their Predictive Analytics & Robotic Process Automation for 2023
Infinx Healthcare is named a Top 10 Vendor for RCM Software and is Shortlisted for their Predictive Analytics and Robotic Process Automation.

The healthcare IT research firm Black Book Research has named Infinx Healthcare as a top 10 Vendor for the Revenue Cycle Management Software and shortlisted them for End-to-End RCM Software and Predictive Analytics & Robotic Process Automation for 2023.

Black Book Research surveyed 1,100 health system financial managers on their experiences using revenue cycle management software solutions. Their team of analysts looked at customer satisfaction, performance, return on investment and more.

Their research identified Infinx among the top 10 RCM software solutions for large hospitals and organizations and shortlisted them for small to midsize hospital chains. Infinx was also shortlisted for their Predictive Analytics & Robotic Process Automation for 2023.

According to Black Book Research methodology, top-10-ranked vendors and advisors must have a minimum of five unique clients represented. Broad categories require:

  • Minimum of 20 unique client ballots
  • Vendors, associates, consultants and advisors with over 20 unique client votes are eligible for top-10 rankings and are assured to have highest confidence and lowest variation.
  • Confidence increases as more organizations report on their outsourcing vendor.
  • Data reported in this form are shown with a 95 percent confidence level (within a margin of 0.25, 0.20 or 0.15, respectively).

Infinx Healthcare is a leading technology-enabled revenue cycle solutions provider. Earlier this year, it was also recognized as a Sample Vendor for a second year in a row for Intelligent Prior Authorization in the Gartner Hype Cycle for US Healthcare Payers in 2023.

Jaideep Tandon, Chairman and CEO of Infinx, said this industry-wide recognition will help healthcare providers with due diligence as they begin researching technologies for their next investment cycle. “This survey results from feedback from hospitals and CIOs who have worked with Infinx or have heard about us from their peers. They know what works and doesn’t work, so these recommendations matter,” says Tandon.

Infinx was recognized in two categories for RCM software and in one category for Predictive Analytics & Robotic Process Automation for its deep industry expertise, scalable processes and technology for revenue cycles.

Infinx’s Healthcare Revenue Cloud platform leverages a suite of customizable solutions that cover the entire revenue cycle, which includes help with eligibility verification, enhanced benefits checks, prior authorization, referral management, document capture, credentialing, coding, charge capture optimization and claims and denials management coding. These solutions are powered by AI, automation, workflow and workforce allocation technology, integrations and analytics.

Infinx clients have seen reduced staff 70-90 percent workload processing prior authorizations, 2 to 5 percent of their net patient revenue uplift and 20 percent above their net new collections by leveraging their technology.

“The healthcare system is full of complexities, but when hospitals and CIOs leverage advanced technology, it suddenly becomes more manageable. Workflows become more productive and revenue streams are increased with the help of these solutions,” said Tandon.

Healthcare groups interested in learning more can schedule a demo by clicking here: www.infinx.com/request-a-demo.

Henry Selick hopes for Nightmare Before Christmas prequel

Henry Selick hopes for Nightmare Before Christmas prequel

Both director Henry Selick and lead Chris Sarandon hope that a prequel to The Nightmare Before Christmas can move forward.

Whether you watch The Nightmare Before Christmas during Halloween or Christmas time – or, like a sensible person, both – there’s no denying that the stop-motion classic is an essential. And considering the following it has developed in the 30 years since its release, it’s a bit of a surprise that it has never received a sequel. And if a sequel doesn’t do it for you, how about a prequel? After all, that seems to be of more interest to director Henry Selick.

Speaking with People on the occasion of the film’s anniversary – The Nightmare Before Christmas marked its official 30 years last Friday – Selick said, “It might be more interesting to do a prequel…There might be a more interesting story there about how Jack became the King of Halloweentown.” Fortunately, he’s got at least one key cast member on board, as Chris Sarandon – who voiced Jack Skellington – said, “To quote Henry, ‘F— yeah’…If there were a sequel, I’d be there in a minute.”

Talk of a continuation of The Nightmare Before Christmas is nothing new, as Disney tried to get a project going back in the early 2000s as a computer-animated feature. There was even talk a few years ago of a live-action sequel being considered. Thankfully this was squashed, but really, a prequel headed by the original director could work if the story is strong and tries to do something interesting with Jack (and, presumably, a lot of new characters) and doesn’t come across like a cheap cash-in. Certainly Tim Burton’s involvement could help greenlight it, but we hope for Selick’s sake that Burton doesn’t get all of the credit yet again

For those who want a direct experience with The Nightmare Before Christmas, Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion Holiday – where the Pumpkin King gives the titular dark ride a facelift for the holidays – is now going on. Otherwise, it’s the perfect season (well, one of them) to sit back and watch the 1993 classic, currently streaming on Disney+.

What do you think? Could a prequel to The Nightmare Before Christmas work or should Selick let it be a standalone? Give us your thoughts below!

Warwick Davis says Disney+’s removal of the Willow series is “embarrassing”

Warwick Davis says Disney+’s removal of the Willow series is “embarrassing”

The star of Disney’s Willow series, Warwick Davis, says removing the show from Disney+ is an “embarassing” move.

Willow actor and silver screen legend Warwick Davis is not holding back about Disney’s removal of the Willow series. Davis recently took to social media to break his silence about the House of Mouse pulling its Willow series from the streaming platform as part of a broader cost-cutting initiative under Disney CEO Bob Iger.

“I meet lovely people on a daily basis who are fans of #Willow, who are the reason the @DisneyPlus series was made,” Davis wrote on X (formally known as Twitter). “Please tell me @WaltDisneyCo, what do I say to these subscribers when they ask why they can’t watch the series any more? #embarrassing”

Interestingly, or adding insult to injury, Disney says the Willow IP remains an important part of the Lucasfilm library, and the studio could revisit it.

Here’s the official synopsis for Disney’s Willow series:

An epic period fantasy series with a modern sensibility set in an enchanted land of breathtaking beauty, “Willow” features a diverse international cast with Jonathan Kasdan, Ron Howard, Wendy Mericle, Kathleen Kennedy, and Michelle Rejwan serving as executive producers. The story begins with an aspiring magician from a Nelwyn village and an infant girl destined to unite the realms, who together helped destroy an evil queen and banish the forces of darkness. Now, in a magical world where brownies, sorcerers, trolls, and other mystical creatures flourish, the adventure continues as an unlikely group of heroes set off on a dangerous quest to places far beyond their home, where they must face their inner demons and come together to save their world.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcHdieChZoI

Warwick Davis reprises the role of Willow Ufgood and is joined in the cast by Ruby Cruz, Ellie Bamber, Erin Kellyman, Amer Chadha-Patel, Talisa Garcia, Dempsey Bryk, Tony Revolori, Joanne Whalley, Daniel Naprous, Joonas Suotamo, Vitas Le Bas, Ralph Ineson, Talisa Garcia, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers, Kevin Pollak, Hannah Waddingham, and Caoimhe Farren.

While Disney says it could return to Willow in the future, it’s hard to imagine a scenario where Davis agrees to be a part of the mix, and what’s Willow without Willow Ufgood? Disney and Davis could mend fences, but only time will tell. What do you think about the Willow series getting pulled from Disney+? Let us know in the comments section below.

Jon Hamm’s animated series Grimsburg gets January premiere

Jon Hamm’s animated series Grimsburg gets January premiere

The Jon Hamm-led animated series Grimsburg will get a January 17th premiere following a night of NFL on Fox.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFFaA4heIYY

With such a distinct, soothing tone, it’s no wonder Jon Hamm has gotten so much voice work. Now, he’s set to get his own starring role in an animated series called Grimsburg, playing a detective who juggles the struggles of his job and his home life.

In Grimsburg, Jon Hamm plays Martin Flute (looking very much like Hopper from Stranger Things), “maybe the greatest detective ever to catch a cannibal clown and correctly identify a mid-century modern armoire. But there’s one mystery he still can’t crack — himself. To do that he must return to Grimsburg, a town where everyone has a secret or three, and redeem himself in the eyes of his fellow detectives, his ferocious ex-wife and his lovably unstable son.”

Grimsburg is set to premiere during a strong slot, following a doubleheader of NFL games on Fox on January 7th. The supporting cast of Grimsburg includes Erinn Hayes (Childrens Hospital), Rachel Dratch (Saturday Night Live), Alan Tudyk (a Disney voice favorite for over a decade), Kevin Michael Richardson (who has done voice work for Seth MacFarlane), and Greg Chun (the English-dubbed The Squid Game). Jon Hamm’s most recent voice credits include Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. (as Iron Man), Prime Video’s Invincible, Fox’s Bless the Harts, and the narrator for season two of Legion.

When Grimsburg was first announced in 2021, Jon Hamm expressed his commitment to headlining the series. “I am very excited to be involved in the Fox animation universe…A universe I have been actively watching since the early ’90s. The opportunity to get to bring a project like Grimsburg to life that is so particular and unique, and to work with its incredibly imaginative and hilarious creators is one I can’t wait to get started with.”

Created by Catlan McClelland and Matthew Schlissel, Grimsburg was already renewed for a second season last year. Executive producer Gail Bergman praised both the project and the team, saying, Grimsburg is a thoroughly original and comedic take on the small-town crime show trope with a mix of the insatiable Jon Hamm and head-spinning plot twists and turns. Fox, Bento Box and Grimsburg genius creators, Catlan and Matthew are taking the animation genre to new heights under the wise leadership of our brilliant showrunner Chadd Gindin in this eccentric comedy with a broad appeal.”
