Fantastic Four director says the movie will be unlike anything we’ve seen at Marvel so far

Fantastic Four director Matt Shakman says the upcoming movie will be unlike anything we’ve seen at Marvel so far.

We’ve seen the Fantastic Four on the big screen several times over the last twenty years, but fans are hopeful that the next incarnation will finally get it right now that Marvel’s first family has come home. The new Fantastic Four movie will launch Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and director Matt Shakman teased the project while speaking with Collider.

It’s different in so many ways,” Matt Shakman said. “I wish I could be specific. I wish I could say more. But we are doing things very differently from a story standpoint, from an approach to the filmmaking standpoint, that really fits the material. I wish I could say more. I would love to, but I can’t. But I think it’s going to be unlike anything you’ve seen before, and certainly unlike anything at Marvel that you’ve seen before.

Now that the WGA strike has concluded, work can resume on the script, but we shouldn’t expect to hear anything regarding casting until the SAG-AFTRA strike is over, despite all the rumours. “We’re in the middle of a SAG strike, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they get a great deal really soon and we can go back,” Shakman said. “Then, once that’s resolved, there’ll be a plan at that point, but I can’t say too much. There will be an announcement at some point! I know that the internet is very excited to find out, and I’m excited to share it. I just can’t do it yet.

As this will be the third Fantastic Four movie (or fourth if you count the unreleased ’90s movie), Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has said that they won’t simply be retelling the team’s origin. “A lot of people know this origin story,” Feige said. “A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?” As the Fantastic Four have decades of history behind them, Feige admitted, “We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.

Marvel has big plans for the superhero team, with Kevin Feige saying that Fantastic Four will be a big pillar of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Fantastic Four is the foundation for everything that came after in the comics. There’s certainly been versions of it [on screen], but never inhabiting the storytelling of the MCU. And that’s something that is really exciting for us.” Feige said. “People will start to hear more about that soon. We plan on that being a big pillar of the MCU going forward, just the way they’ve been in the comics for 50 or 60 years.Fantastic Four is scheduled for a May 2, 2025 release.

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein: Christoph Waltz joins the cast

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein: Christoph Waltz joins the cast

Guillermo del Toro reveals that Christoph Waltz has joined the cast of his long-awaited Frankenstein movie which starts shooting next year.

Guillermo del Toro has wanted to direct an adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein for decades, and at long last, he’s finally going to do it. It was reported earlier this year that the Frankenstein movie is set to star Oscar Isaac, Andrew Garfield, and Mia Goth, but while speaking with Collider at the 10th anniversary IMAX 3D screening of Pacific Rim, Guillermo del Toro dropped one more name: Christoph Waltz.

I’m doing Frankenstein,” Guillermo del Toro said. “We’re working on it. We start shooting in February, and it’s a movie I have been wanting to do for 50 years since I saw the first Frankenstein. I had an epiphany, and it’s basically a movie that required a lot of growth and a lot of tools that I couldn’t have done 10-20 years ago. Now I’m brave or crazy enough or something, and we’re gonna tackle it. It’s Oscar Isaac, Andrew Garfield, Christoph Waltz, Mia Goth, and we’re working on it.

Christoph Waltz has worked with Guillermo del Toro before, lending his voice to Count Volpe in the director’s stop-motion animated Pinocchio movie. Speaking of Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, the film is set to receive a lovely 4K release courtesy of the Criterion Collection on December 12th.

[SEEMORE

There’s no word on who Christoph Waltz would play in the Frankenstein movie; perhaps a Doctor Pretorius type of character?

The project was once set up at Universal over a decade ago with Doug Jones set to play Frankenstein’s monster, and the director said that it would be the most personal film he’d ever make. “I’m being very faithful to trying to encompass the whole narrative of the novel,” del Toro said at the time. “I’m being very faithful in that I’m trying to capture the spirit of the novel, when I read it as a kid, and how it impacted me. I recognize that it’s both biography and prophecy about my life. It’s a very personal film. In many ways it’s the most personal film I’ll ever make, because my connection with the creature is very profound and deep and I don’t think there’s any other monster that has affected me as much.

National Survey Reveals Americans Saving $5,000 a Year by Ordering Prescriptions From Canada

National Survey Reveals Americans Saving ,000 a Year by Ordering Prescriptions From Canada
93% Say Prescription Drug Costs Are Important to How They’ll Vote in the Next Election, Compared to 84% a Year Ago

Americans choosing to import their prescription medications from licensed Canadian pharmacies report saving $4,920 a year and four times the savings compared to U.S. pharmacies, GoodRx and Amazon Pharmacy, according to survey results and price comparison analysis released today by the Campaign for Personal Prescription Importation (CPPI).

This national CPPI survey demonstrates a remarkable trend of increasing savings for patients importing medications from Canada over the last five years. It also highlights the importance of personal prescription importation as a means of accessing affordable medication for Americans.

Key Survey Findings

  • Average annual savings of $4,920 in 2023, as reported by Americans importing prescription medications from Canada, compared to U.S. costs, reveals a major 5-year trend:
    • In 2022, the average annual savings amounted to $3,744
    • In 2021, savings averaged $2,736
    • In 2020, savings averaged $2,940
    • In 2019, savings averaged $2,352
  • Americans importing their prescription medications from Canada reported saving an average of $410 per month, compared to U.S. costs.
  • 99% of respondents would recommend importation to their friends and family members.
  • 93% of respondents say that addressing the high cost of prescription drugs in the U.S. is important to how they will vote in the next election, compared to 84% just one year ago.

CPPI 2023 Survey Data Cross Tabs

“Savings of nearly $5,000 a year on medications from Canada versus prices four times higher at U.S. pharmacies is often a matter of life and death for patients across America,” says Jack Pfeiffer, CPPI Executive Director. “While state and federal efforts aim to lower prescription drug costs, the truth is we hear from Americans every day who still can’t afford U.S. drug prices. Americans’ only immediate, safe solution to access critically necessary, affordable daily prescriptions is to order from licensed Canadian pharmacies.”

Federal negotiation of drug prices for Medicare does not provide immediate relief from the astronomical prices that Americans pay for their life-saving medicines. The drugs subject to price negotiation will not be made available at lower cost until 2026 and it is unclear if consumers will see those lower prices. It is unlikely that any of the potential savings from this program will affect the hundreds of millions of Americans who are not eligible for Medicare. Only 10 drugs will be subject to the initial price negotiation. What’s more, the price negotiation is subject to multiple lawsuits and legislative challenges that could prevent lower prices from ever becoming a reality.

States have joined the battle to allow for the importation of affordable medicines from Canada. While 10 states have wholesale importation laws on the books, none are operational as none of the state programs have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The state plans face U.S. and Canadian regulatory restrictions, as well as legal challenges and opposition to wholesale importation

Meanwhile, millions of Americans import prescription medications from abroad. 89% are over the age of 65 according to the CPPI survey. 91% cite the high cost of prescription drugs in the U.S. as the primary reason for ordering from licensed Canadian pharmacies. They rely on international pharmacies for critical daily prescription medications such as ELIQUIS and XARELTO to treat and prevent blood clots and strokes.

Daniel Wendell from California says, “I have had asthma since I was a child and have been on various drugs for its treatment my entire life. Generic versions of my inhaler did not work as well for me. Brand name inhaler prices in the U.S., even from a discount pharmacy, are outrageous -- $400/month. I can get the same medicine from Canada for $100/month from a certified Canadian pharmacy.”

Four Times The Savings

CPPI price comparisons regularly demonstrate savings of 50% to 90% on commonly prescribed brand-name prescription medications from Canada compared to leading U.S. pharmacies, GoodRx and Amazon Pharmacy. Analysis of these price comparisons shows four times the savings on medications from Canada.

How to Find a Safe Pharmacy

Americans need greater access to safe, reliable, and affordable medications. The importance increases for people with multiple underlying conditions, as 66% of survey respondents who report taking four or more medications can attest.

  • 80% of surveyed Americans who import their prescriptions report being referred by a trusted medical professional, friend, or family member.
  • 80% of survey respondents know how to identify “rogue” pharmacies and are savvy in their search to find an online pharmacy they can trust.
  • 99% of respondents would recommend importation to their friends and family members.

CPPI recommends searching only certified websites for prescription drugs from licensed Canadian pharmacies. Click here for more information on how to find trusted Canadian pharmacies.

Survey Methodology

CPPI conducted this online survey between Nov. 15, 2022, and June 31, 2023. Based on the universe of followers of CPPI, this sample of 1,162 responses represents statistically significant findings with a standard sampling error of plus or minus 5%. Vikings: Valhalla to end with season 3 on Netflix

Vikings: Valhalla to end with season 3 on Netflix

Vikings: Valhalla will end with season 3 on Netflix, concluding the saga of the most famous Vikings who ever lived.

The saga of Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), Freydis Eriksdotter (Frida Gustavsson), and Harald (Leo Suter) is coming to an end. As first reported by IGN, Vikings: Valhalla will conclude next year with season 3.

I am so grateful to have had three seasons to tell the stories of Leif, Harald and Freydis,” said series creator Jeb Stuart. “I knew from the beginning that I wanted to show the evolution of how three of the most famous Vikings became the icons we know today and we have done just that.”

Stuart continued, “I hope when the audience gets to see the new season, they’ll be excited by all the new heights that we’ve taken these heroes. When we started this project 5 years ago, I worked hard with this incredible cast and crew to craft a journey that we all hoped would be satisfying. Of course with real historical figures, there are always more aspects of their lives that could be explored, but it made sense story-wise for our Leif, Freydis and Harald’s voyages to end with our third season. And we really cannot wait for the fans to see the conclusion of this chapter of history.

Set over a thousand years ago in the early 11th century, Vikings: Valhalla chronicles the heroic adventures of some of the most famous Vikings who ever lived — the legendary explorer Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), his fiery and headstrong sister Freydis Eriksdotter (Frida Gustavsson), and the ambitious Nordic prince Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter). The series’ second season picks up with our heroes shortly after the tragic fall of Kattegat; an event that has shattered their dreams and altered their destinies. Finding themselves suddenly fugitives in Scandinavia, they are forced to test their ambitions and courage in worlds beyond the fjords of Kattegat.

Our own Alex Maidy reviewed the series upon its release and was a big fan. “If you were a fan of Vikings, then you will absolutely love Valhalla. It works as a standalone series as well as a companion to the original series and offers a bloody and interesting look at an era of history that is often glossed over,” Maidy wrote. “With solid production values, great cinematography, and a lot of well-written characters, Vikings: Valhalla is a good watch for fans of epic battles as much as they are of palace intrigue and political thrills. It is worth noting that you will likely need a pad and pencil to keep track of who is who but if you are willing to invest in this you will enjoy the ride.” Check out the rest of Maidy’s review right here.

Vikings: Valhalla season 3 will launch on Netflix in 2024.

Christopher Owen

Christopger is 32 years old from Glasgow, Scotland. He has a wonderful wife Natalie and a son Max who he loves very, very much. Art is really important to him too and doesn’t know what his geeky brain would do without having that outlet! If Christopher obsesses over something, he has to draw it.

JoBlo: What got you started as an artist?
Owen: I loved drawing from such a really young age. I’d draw little comic strips and imaginary battle scenes based on Star Wars or Jurassic Park. Pretty much all the same stuff that excited me then still excites me now. It was an escape. My home life suffered from a lot of turmoil. I suffered abuse from a family member and that made me a really insular person. Drawing was an escape from that. There’s no shame in it and I’m proud to have the artistic ability I have today. I have such a supportive and loving family now, mainly my wife and son, and it’s turned my artwork not into an escape but an expression of gratitude and a celebration of everything that I hold dear.

Who were some of your favorite artists growing up?
I’m sure it’s the same for alot of artists who love cinema but Drew Struzan was the first artist who made a huge impact on me. It was in the Showcase Cinema in Glasgow, my hometown, where I first saw the posters for the Star Wars special editions in 1997 and I told myself I want to draw like that! John Alvin to a similar degree. I also love the art of Salvador Dali and Peter Howson.

Who do you really dig these days, follow on Instagram?
I love Sam Gilbey and Nuno Sardanas. They’re also poster artists and they really inspire me with their creativity. Rachel Jane Art is my friend too and she has a really amazing painterly style that I’m in awe of. I do follow a lot of artists. I do try and keep my social media a really positive and inspiring place.

What advice would you have for budding artists today?
I think it’s just important to be yourself and follow your own path. Draw inspiration from where you can find it and have fun. Every artist started because it was a fun bit of escapism. Never lose that.

What should we be looking out for from you in the future?
More of just being me. I hope to continue getting better at the craft and learning new techniques. I don’t want to ever reach a point where I feel like I can’t improve or do better. I want a constant evolution.

Being a fansite, we have to ask you… What are some of your favorite movies/TV shows of all time?
There’s a lot I could list but it really boils down to Star Wars and Jurassic Park. I love both of those worlds. I’ll want to hold a real lightsaber or see a real dinosaur until the day I die.
