Keanu Reeves’ exploratory new series, Visionaries, has dropped a new trailer

Explore the creativity and ingenuity of the modern world as Keanu Reeves and his business partner expand their brand to further aspects of life.

Keanu Reeves is once again getting you to open your mind. The Matrix franchise star has always showcased a love of life and seemingly allows his curiosities to excite him even more as he explores newer aspects of the human condition. The Roku Channel has now released a trailer for Visionaries, a new show that stars Reeves and his business partner, Gard Hollinger, as they expand their brand from their initial motorcycle products into something bigger. Visionaries is an eight-episode series that will stream on The Roku Channel on March 7. Also, JoBlo will soon have an interview with Keanu himself coming up, so stay tuned!

The official synopsis reads,
“Keanu Reeves and Gard Hollinger are kindred souls with a bond built on a love of motorcycles and an insatiable curiosity about the world around them. In 2011, they founded ARCH Motorcycle to reimagine what a motorcycle could be. To them, ARCH is a mindset, a lens through which to see the world. This is a journey of curiosity, to understand where human creativity comes from and to shine a light on the visionaries who are pushing the bounds of innovation and changing our world.”

Launched in 2017, The Roku Channel is the home of free ad-supported streaming television on Roku, and features a diverse lineup of more than 80,000 on-demand movies and programs, more than 500 live linear television channels, and premium subscription offerings in the U.S. It licenses and distributes content from more than 250 partners and features a growing library of Roku Originals.

Meanwhile, Keanu recently talked about his yearning to play John Constantine again in a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast. He and his Constantine director, Francis Lawrence, were interviewed and Lawrence stated, “Keanu and Akiva and I have been collaborating and I think we have some really, really great ideas that we’re super super excited about.” He added that they’re “pretty close” to having a “workable” script. Then Reeves said, “What Akiva and Francis have come up with and the ideas, I’m aching to play this guy.“

While Constantine 2 is a DC Comics adaptation, it will not be part of the DC Universe franchise being built by James Gunn and Peter Safran, a franchise that’s getting started with the animated series Creature Commandos and this year’s Superman film. Rather, this is an Elseworlds project, much like The Penguin and Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II.

A little over a year ago, we learned that Alexander Skarsgard of SuccessionThe Legend of Tarzan, and The Northman had signed on to star in the ten-episode sci-fi series Murderbot, which is set up at Apple TV+. (Despite sharing a title with a recently released movie from Full Moon and director Jim Wynorski, this project is actually based on Martha Wells’ bestselling, Hugo and Nebula Award-winning book series The Murderbot Diaries.) Now, it has been announced that the show is going to make its global premiere on Apple TV+ with the first two episodes on Friday, May 16, followed by new episodes every Friday through July 11. A pair of first look images have also been unveiled, and you can check those out in this article.

The sibling duo of Chris and Paul Weitz (About a Boy) are writing, directing, and executive producing Murderbot under their Depth of Field banner. Andrew Miano is also executive producing for Depth of Field, while David S. Goyer executive produces alongside Keith Levine for Phantom Four. Wells is on board as consulting producer.

Coming our way from Paramount Television Studios, Murderbot is aiming to be action-packed. The series will introduce viewers to a self-hacking security android (Skarsgard) who is horrified by human emotion yet drawn to its vulnerable “clients.” Murderbot must hide its free will and complete a dangerous assignment when all it really wants is to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out its place in the universe. Skarsgard is joined in the cast by Noma Dumezweni (Presumed Innocent), David Dastmalchian (Oppenheimer), Sabrina Wu (Joy Ride), Akshay Khanna (Critical Incident), Tattiawna Jones (The Handmaid’s Tale), and Tamara Podemski (Outer Range).

Interview: Osgood Perkins, Theo James, Rohan Campbell, and more talk The Monkey

We talk with Osgood Perkins, Theo James, Christian Convery, Colin O’Brien, and Rohan Campbell about The Monkey

Last year, Osgood Perkins’s oddity Longlegs captured horror fans’ attention. The Nicolas Cage-starring thriller earned plenty of fans from critics and audiences alike. And now, Perkins has returned with one of the wackiest splatter flicks you’re likely to see in cinema. The Monkey is an adaptation of Stephen King’s short story. The film offers Theo James, Christian Convery, and Colin O’Brien the chance to play twin brothers. It also features a fine performance from Rohan Campbell, the star of Halloween Ends. Looking for a return to over-the-top and blood-soaked shenanigans in horror? The Monkey will hit the right beats.

Recently, I had the great pleasure of chatting with some of the stars of The Monkey. Stepping into the room to speak to Theo James and Osgood Perkins, I offered a little nostalgia for Osgood. My first job in Los Angeles was at a record/video store. It was one that had quite a collection of celebrity customers. Our store had a wall of autographs just from the many that we had stopped by, including several regulars. One of them happened to be the late, great Anthony Perkins. I remember first meeting him, and talking about video games.

As I shared that story with Osgood, he replied smiling, mentioning the store’s name and where it had been located. It’s long gone now, but I will always have a soft spot for Music Plus. And frankly, Perkins’ reaction was terrific, and clearly, it brought back memories. We went on to have a great interview. And as we wrapped up, he said, “It was good to see you again.” And yes, it was. Osgood is a kind gentleman, so it was lovely having that video store connection.

In addition to James and Perkins, we also spoke to Convery, O’Brien, and Campbell. It was terrific speaking to both O’Brien and Convery. The two actors faced the same challenges Mr. James took on. And all three talents shined. As for Rohan, I spoke to him at a convention a couple of years back, and it was great to see him again. He discussed playing the role of “Thrasher” and working with a director like Perkins. The performances all work in this wildly violent and bloody comedy horror flick. If you dig a little “splatter horror” then you are going to go ape for The Monkey!

Check out The Monkey in theatres this weekend. Read our review HERE!

Long Bright River trailer: Amanda Seyfried stars in suspense thriller series coming to Peacock

Long Bright River trailer: Amanda Seyfried stars in suspense thriller series coming to Peacock

A trailer has been released for the Peacock limited series Long Bright River, starring Amanda Seyfried and based on a Liz Moore novel

Thirteen months ago, we learned that Amanda Seyfried – whose credits include The Dropout, Mank, You Should Have Left, Mamma Mia!, Big Love, Jennifer’s Body, Veronica Mars, the original Mean Girls, and much more – had signed on to star in the suspense thriller limited series Long Bright River for the Peacock streaming service. The series is based on Liz Moore’s bestselling novel of the same name, and a trailer has just dropped online, along with the information that all eight episodes of the show will be available to watch on Peacock as of March 13th. You can watch the trailer in the embed above.

Long Bright River is a suspense thriller series that tells the story of Mickey (Amanda Seyfried), a police officer who patrols a Philadelphia neighborhood hard-hit by the opioid crisis. When a series of murders begins in the neighborhood, Mickey realizes that her personal history might be related to the case.

Seyfried is joined in the cast by Nicholas Pinnock, Ashleigh Cummings, Callum Vinson, John Doman, Dash Mihok, Britne Oldford, Matthew Del Negro, Harriet Sansom Harris, Patch Darragh, and Perry Mattfeld.

Moore’s novel (pick up a copy HERE) has the following description: In a Philadelphia neighborhood rocked by the opioid crisis, two once-inseparable sisters find themselves at odds. One, Kacey, lives on the streets in the vise of addiction. The other, Mickey, walks those same blocks on her police beat. They don’t speak anymore, but Mickey never stops worrying about her sibling. Then Kacey disappears, suddenly, at the same time that a mysterious string of murders begins in Mickey’s district, and Mickey becomes dangerously obsessed with finding the culprit–and her sister–before it’s too late. Alternating its present-day mystery with the story of the sisters’ childhood and adolescence, Long Bright River is at once heart-pounding and heart-wrenching: a gripping suspense novel that is also a moving story of sisters, addiction, and the formidable ties that persist between place, family, and fate.

The series is coming our way from Sony Pictures Television and UCP. Seyfried is executive producing the show with Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, and Amanda Lewis of Original Film and Amy Pascal of Pascal Pictures. Moore is also an executive producer and is writing the series with Nikki Toscano, who has had writing credits on multiple TV shows, including Revenge, Bates Motel, 24: Legacy, Hunters, and The Offer. Also executive producing is Hagar Ben-Asher (Dead Women Walking), director of the first episode.

Toscano provided the following statement: “When my agents first brought me Long Bright River, I read the novel in one sitting. Liz Moore’s breathtakingly beautiful story about a patrol cop on the hunt for her missing younger sister in the midst of a series of murders in Kensington, Philadelphia was as compelling in its family drama as it was in its murder mystery. I immediately knew it was something I wanted to take a crack at translating to screen with Liz. The challenge of adapting this moving love story between two sisters as it elegantly weaves between the past and the present was thrilling, particularly as the history of this family’s past holds a critical key in solving the murder/mystery that unfolds in the present. Equally compelling was the sense of place Liz brought to her novel which I was excited about translating to screen, both as a writer and as a director.
But perhaps what drew me in the most was the possibility of what this show could achieve in its ambition to upend stereotypes: of those born into poverty and addiction, of those engaging in sex work, of those who have been written off or marginalized after they’ve seemingly fallen through the cracks of their community, and finally, of those engaged in police work. In fact, what makes Long Bright River so unique as a series is that it aims to deconstruct the “police as savior” narrative — a journey pulled through our protagonist, Mickey Fitzpatrick, played by Amanda Seyfried.
Strap yourself in – ‘cause this is Amanda like you’ve never seen her before – flawed and raw, tarred by guilt and shame and legacy, but never more compelling. She puts every ounce of her soul onto the screen and her performance will break your heart. In fact, all of our cast’s performances – Nicholas, Ashleigh, Callum, and John, among so many others – will grab a hold of you and never let go. And that passion and commitment is just as true of the performances that happened offscreen, from our line producer Jerry Kupfer to our writer/executive producer Russell Rothberg on set to our entirely female gang of directors that I was lucky to be a part of to our post team led by Matt Barber, and every member of our incredible and dedicated crew. We hope that Long Bright River will make the same indelible mark on you as it has made on us – and that it’s a story that stays with you long after the final frame has rolled. Thank you so much for watching.

Moore added, “The question authors are frequently asked about their books is: ‘What inspired this?’ When it comes to Long Bright River, it’s difficult to answer concisely. I could say that the first seed of the novel was planted in 2009, when I first set foot in Kensington — a tight-knit, vibrant neighborhood in Philadelphia that has become very dear to me, and that is often misunderstood and misrepresented in the national media. I could say that the first seed was planted by my own family’s history of addiction, which has spanned many generations and has been a topic of conversation among us since well before I was born. I could say that being a sister inspired Long Bright River, or living in the city of Philadelphia. Really it’s a mix of all of these. Being part of the team bringing the novel to life as a series has been a moving experience. Just as I can’t point to one source of inspiration for the book, I can’t point to one source of inspiration for the series — not even the novel itself. Long Bright River, the series, has been a true group effort. Everyone involved — including co-creator and showrunner Nikki Toscano (who was also one of our directors on the series!); our talented actors, led by Amanda Seyfried; each department; the entire crew — has brought their own creative voice to the table to make this series feel brand new. The city of Philadelphia and the neighborhood of Kensington have also played an important part, lending advisors, artists, musicians, set dressers, actors — trained and untrained — to the production. We are indebted to them for sharing their voices and vision with us. Thank you for watching. We hope you enjoy it.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos wants to know who you would cast as James Bond

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos wants to know who you would cast as James Bond

Now that Amazon MGM has creative control over the James Bond franchise, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos wants to know who they should cast as Bond

James Bond Daniel Craig

A few years ago, Amazon, the parent company of Amazon Studios, bought the legendary Hollywood studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) – and, as a result, we now have a studio called Amazon MGM Studios. One of their top IPs is the James Bond franchise, which was set up at MGM before Amazon came into the picture. A couple of months ago, we heard that Amazon MGM and the production company behind the James Bond series, EON Productions, were locked in “a bitter feud” over which direction to take 007 in – and then, this morning brought the shocking news that EON heads Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have decided to take a step back and let Amazon MGM have creative control over the Bond films going forward. When the news was announced, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos quickly took to social media to ask, “Who’d you pick as the next Bond?” Leading the folks at Deadline to wonder if Bezos is actually crowdsourcing the casting decision, with the most popular actor among fans being the top actor to be considered for the job.

As part of their new arrangement, EON Productions will still retain ownership of the franchise, but Amazon MGM’s Jennifer Salke will be making the creative decisions. Salke began her career in the entertainment industry at Aaron Spelling Productions in the 1990s. She joined 20th Century Fox as the Senior Vice President of Drama Development in 2002, then became the Executive Vice President of Creative Affairs at 20th Century Fox Television. Later, she served as the President of NBC Entertainment for seven years, where she was the head of comedy and drama development and oversaw the operations of Universal Television. She became the head of Amazon Studios in 2018.

The most recent era of the James Bond films, the Daniel Craig era, came to an end in 2021, and we’ve been waiting to hear who will be the next to take on the role of James Bond. A Wall Street Journal report in December said that the casting was one area where EON and Amazon MGM disagreed, as EON was open to casting an unknown, while Amazon MGM was pushing for someone recognizable, like Aaron Taylor-Johnson of The Fall Guy and Kraven the Hunter. There were rumblings that Taylor-Johnson was being officially offered the role last March, but they didn’t pan out – presumably due to the disagreements between EON and Amazon MGM. Now that Bezos is asking the public who they would like to see as Bond, he’s likely to see a lot of people suggesting former Man of Steel Henry Cavill. Others who have come up in speculations include James Norton (Happy Valley), Damson Idris (Snowfall), Theo James (The Monkey), Josh O’Connor (Challengers), Tom Hardy (Venom), and Idris Elba (Luther).

But, it might still be a while before we hear any news on the next James Bond movies. Deadline has been told by Amazon MGM insiders that “no decisions have been made on future Bond films, including who will star, direct, and write the next feature. It means another installment is likely years away.

The Wall Street Journal report also mentioned that, as soon as Amazon and MGM merged in 2022, “Amazon pitched various 007 TV spinoffs, with all concerned eager to get the Bond train rolling as soon as possible.” EON blocked those ideas from happening, only agreeing to let Amazon MGM go ahead with the reality competition show 007: Road to a Million.

I have to admit that, while it’s sad to hear that the days of Broccoli family members calling the shots are over, I didn’t have great hopes for the future of the James Bond franchise even before this morning’s news that EON Productions was giving up creative control. I was a Bond super-fan for a couple of decades, but the most recent movies – Spectre and No Time to Die – really killed my enthusiasm, as I felt that there were some seriously bad decisions being made behind the scenes. For me, Bond was at its most exciting and fun when the movies were formulaic adventures released every 18 to 24 months. So that’s what I would most want to see from the franchise in the future. Stop chasing accolades by making the movies dreary slogs with “this time it’s personal” stories and just go back to having fun with it. Cast Henry Cavill as Bond, return to the established formula, and pump out crowd-pleasing adventures every couple of years.

Is Amazon MGM up to the challenge of making good creative decisions about the future of James Bond? We’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, let’s answer the question posed by Jeff Bezos: who’d you pick as the next Bond?

Cryptocurrency and the Beauty Industry: A New Era of Innovation

Introduction

The beauty industry is constantly evolving, introducing new trends and technologies to enhance customer interaction and optimize business processes. One of the latest revolutions in this field is cryptocurrency. Digital assets and blockchain technology are transforming how beauty brands engage with customers, process payments, and ensure transparency.

Cryptocurrency and the Beauty Industry

How Cryptocurrency is Transforming the Beauty Industry

  1. Crypto Payments for Beauty Products and Services
Many beauty brands and salons are beginning to accept cryptocurrency as a payment method. This allows for international transactions with lower fees and greater privacy, making beauty services more accessible worldwide. YSL Beauty has launched an NFT collection that offers exclusive discounts and access to limited product series for customers who pay with cryptocurrency.
  2. Blockchain for Product Authenticity
Counterfeit cosmetic products are a major issue in the industry. Blockchain technology enables brands to provide transparent tracking of their products, ensuring that consumers receive authentic goods. L’Oréal is exploring blockchain to verify the authenticity of its cosmetics, allowing consumers to check the origins of their products.
  3. Decentralized Beauty Marketplaces
New blockchain-based platforms enable independent beauty professionals and brands to sell their products and services directly to customers without intermediaries, reducing costs and fostering fairer competition. The CosmeChain platform uses blockchain to connect independent cosmetic manufacturers with customers, offering a secure and transparent marketplace.
  4. Tokenized Loyalty Programs
Beauty brands can utilize cryptocurrency to create token-based loyalty programs. Customers can earn and redeem tokens for discounts, exclusive products, or VIP services, enhancing engagement with the brand. Clinique has launched an NFT loyalty program where customers can receive unique digital assets and exchange them for premium products.
  5. NFTs in Beauty
Brands are launching exclusive digital collectible items and services in the form of NFTs, such as limited-edition virtual makeovers, personalized consultations, or access to private beauty events. NARS Cosmetics released an NFT collection that included unique digital art pieces tied to their products, granting access to exclusive events.

Benefits of Cryptocurrency in the Beauty Industry

  • Lower Transaction Fees: Crypto payments eliminate high processing fees from banking systems.
  • Increased Security and Transparency: Blockchain ensures trust between brands and customers.
  • Global Accessibility: Cryptocurrency allows international transactions without restrictions.
  • Direct Customer Interaction: Removing intermediaries fosters a closer connection between brands and consumers.

Challenges and Risks

Despite its potential, integrating cryptocurrency into the beauty industry comes with challenges:

  • High Volatility: Fluctuations in cryptocurrency value can complicate pricing strategies.
  • Regulatory Uncertainty: Different countries have varying laws regarding cryptocurrency.
  • Technology Adoption: Many consumers are still unfamiliar with crypto transactions.

Conclusion

Cryptocurrency is bringing innovation to the beauty industry, opening new opportunities for payments, transparency, and customer engagement. Despite existing challenges, the adoption of digital assets continues to grow, signaling a future where beauty and blockchain seamlessly merge.

Extraction: Netflix greenlights spin-off series with Omar Sy

Extraction: Netflix greenlights spin-off series with Omar Sy

Omar Sy is set to star in a new series based on Netflix’s popular franchise, Extraction.

While Netflix’s planned Gray Man universe has yet to come to fruition, another big piece of IP from the Russo Bros is being expanded in a big way at the streamer. Deadline has just revealed that Netflix has greenlit an all-new spin-off of their hit action franchise, Extraction, which will re-team them with their Lupin star, Omar Sy. The spin-off, which will be a streaming series, as opposed to a film, will follow Sy as “a mercenary as he navigates a dangerous mission to rescue hostages in Libya. Trapped between warring factions and ruthless killers, the series delves into the emotional struggles of conflicted and flawed characters, each facing trauma, betrayal, and life-or-death choices.”

The series is set to be produced by Joe and Anthony Russo’s AGBO, with former Walking Dead EP Glen Mazzara as the showrunner. Sy’s Lupin has proven to be a major hit for the streaming service; parts 1 and 2 of the series currently sit at number 4 and 7 on their list of most popular non-English language series ever. On the movie side, both Extraction movies were on the 10 most popular list, only to recently get bumped by the success of Carry-On, which booted Extraction 2 from tenth place. The original Extraction, which was directed by Sam Hargrave and starred Chris Hemsworth, was based on the graphic novel, Ciudad by Ande Parks.

The series, which will likely be filmed in English, seems like a no-brainer, with Sy, an internationally popular leading man. He’s a household name in France, thanks to movies like Intouchables, while he also recently headlined Peacock’s remake of John Woo’s The Killer and stars opposite Kerry Washington in Joe Carnahan’s upcoming action flick, Shadow Force.

Are you excited about a potential Extraction series starring Sy? Let us know in the comments!

Dwayne Johnson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Emily Blunt attached to star in Martin Scorsese’s Hawaii-set crime drama

Dwayne Johnson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Emily Blunt attached to star in Martin Scorsese’s Hawaii-set crime drama

Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, and Leonardo DiCaprio are set to star in a Hawaii-set crime drama directed by Martin Scorsese

Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio

Director Martin Scorsese and actor Leonardo DiCaprio have made six movies together so far – Gangs of New York (2002), The Aviator (2004), The Departed (2006), Shutter Island (2010), The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), and Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) – and they’re always looking to get another collaboration off the ground. Recently, we’ve heard rumblings that they could reunite for a Frank Sinatra biopic or the true crime serial killer project The Devil in the White City. Now, there’s another Scorsese / DiCaprio project being pitched, as Deadline reports that Jungle Cruise and Smashing Machine co-stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt are attached to star in a Scorsese-directed, Hawaii-set crime drama alongside DiCaprio.

Nick Bilton is set to write the screenplay for the film. Here’s what Deadline has heard about it: Imagine Robert De Niro’s Jimmy the Gent character from Goodfellas, but as a ruthless Hawaiian crime boss, based on a real figure, who battled encroaching rivals for control of organized crime in Hawaii. The film focuses on a turbulent time on the island paradise when an aspiring mob boss battled rival crime factions to wrest control of the underworld of the Hawaiian islands. It was a bloody battle, the kind of terrain Scorsese covered in both Goodfellas and The Departed. In 1960s and 70s Hawaii, this formidable and charismatic mob boss rises to build the islands’ most powerful criminal empire, waging a brutal war against mainland corporations and rival syndicates while fighting to preserve his ancestral land. It’s based on the untold true story of a man who fought to preserve his homeland through a ruthless quest for absolute power — igniting the last great American mob saga, where the war for cultural survival takes place in the unlikeliest of places: paradise.

Scorsese, Johnson, Blunt, DiCaprio, and Bilton will be producing with Dany Garcia, Lisa Frechette, and Rick Yorn. Johnson and Blunt brought the idea to Scorsese and DiCaprio, and they worked together to choose Bilton as the screenwriter. Bilton will start writing the script once the project gets set up at a studio… which won’t be long, because the bidding war is already in progress. As Deadline notes, “This is poised to be a big one.”

Does a Martin Scorsese crime drama that’s set in Hawaii and stars Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, and Leonardo DiCaprio sound interesting to you? Share your thoughts on this one by leaving a comment below.

Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are reteaming on UFO disclosure film (Updated)

Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are reteaming on UFO disclosure film (Updated)

Top Gun: Maverick and F1 director Joseph Kosinski is looking to reteam with producer Jerry Bruckheimer on a film about UFO disclosure

Top Gun: Maverick

UPDATE: Deadline reports that Apple Original Films looks likely to come out the winner in the bidding war over the Jerry Bruckheimer / Joseph Kosinski UFO disclosure project. Their sources say, “a big reason Apple ended up winning the bid was the strong relationship that grew out of the studio’s F1 movie that Kosinski directed and Bruckheimer produced. Insiders are very high on the film and were eager to work together again after the film finished production.

The original article follows:

After directing the legacy sequel Top Gun: Maverick for legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Joseph Kosinski went right back to work with Bruckheimer to make the Formula One racing film F1, which is scheduled to reach theatres on June 27th. Now, Deadline reports that Bruckheimer and Kosinki might continue their working relationship after sending F1 into the world by collaborating on a UFO disclosure-themed film that’s being compared to a UFO-themed take on the classic 1976 political thriller All the President’s Men.

While Top Gun: Maverick was set up at Paramount and F1 is coming our way from Apple and Warner Bros., this UFO disclosure project has not yet found a home. But, of course, with Bruckheimer and Kosinski attached, there are several studios and streamers who are interested in being involved with the project. Deadline notes that there are at least nine bids on the table, from the likes of Amazon, Skydance, Lionsgate, Sony, Warner Bros, Paramount, 20th Century, Apple, and Universal.

Kosinski will be directing the film from a screenplay written by Zach Baylin, whose credits include The Order and King Richard (for which Baylin earned an Oscar nomination). Bruckheimer will, obviously, be producing.

Deadline reveals that David Grusch, “a former U.S. Air Force intelligence officer and Pentagon whistleblower who gained attention in 2023 for his claims about the U.S. government’s involvement in unidentified aerial phenomena research,” is on board as an executive producer and consultant. They go on to note, Once a niche, easy-to-dismiss topic, UAPs (formerly known as UFOs) have moved from the fringes of conspiracy theories into mainstream discussion in recent years, largely due to declassified military footage and government acknowledgment. Part of this shift in perception came with 2017 reporting from the New York Times that revealed the existence of the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, a group at the Pentagon tasked with investigating UAPs. In subsequent years, the U.S. Department of Defense has confirmed the authenticity of several declassified Navy videos showing fast-moving objects that pilots could not identify. Congressional hearings in 2022 and 2023 further legitimized the topic, with intelligence officials emphasizing national security concerns. Grusch himself spoke out in 2023, asserting that the U.S. government had been secretly recovering and studying non-human craft, which of course sparked even more public interest.
