The Marvels trailer features new footage and a crash course on the film’s superhero triad

The Marvels trailer debuts brand-new footage alongside exciting recaps for all three of the film’s super-powered heroes.

The Marvels touch down in theaters in November, and Marvel Studios is making sure fans know that the Captain Marvel sequel is ready to take them higher, faster, and further than the original. Today’s The Marvels trailer includes new footage from the upcoming superhero spectacle and the origins of the film’s super-powered heroines (Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan).

The Marvels trailer begins with Carol (Brie Larson) and her Flerken cat Goose flying through space before recapping events from 2019’s Captain Marvel. After flashing through pivotal scenes from the billion-dollar-earning blockbuster, the focus switches to Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and how she got her powers in the Disney+ series WandaVision. The trailer follows Monica’s recap with scenes from Ms. Marvel, featuring the scene-stealing Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani). With all three heroes reintroduced, the footage concludes with exciting new scenes from the upcoming film.

The Marvels director Nia DaCosta teased to Empire that family plays a vital role in the movie. “Carol’s the oldest, the prodigal, then there’s the middle sister Monica, who Carol knew as a kid and promised she’d come back [to] but then never did,” DaCosta said. “All the switching stuff is great, but the thing I actually care about is how these two reconcile.” The director continued, “Kamala is the youngest, who hasn’t had the experience of living with this older sister but idolises her. Carol’s a bit jaded at the beginning of the film [but] Kamala reminds her how amazing she is.”

“In Marvel Studios’ The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence,” reads the official synopsis. “But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.”

Dag, yo! The Marvels trailer makes me want to rewatch Captain Marvel before the new film blasts off in cinemas.

In addition to Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, The Marvels also stars Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, Zawe Ashton as Dar-Benn, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. The Marvels will hit theaters on November 10th.

Megalopolis: Francis Ford Coppola’s passion project scores an interim agreement from SAG-AFTRA

Megalopolis: Francis Ford Coppola’s passion project scores an interim agreement from SAG-AFTRA

Despite ongoing strikes, SAG-AFTRA grants Francis Ford Coppola’s long-gestating passion project, Megalopolis, an interim agreement.

Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis is getting good news today after scoring an interim agreement from SAG-AFTRA. Details about the deal remain a mystery, and outlets could not reach Coppola’s representatives for comment. However, Deadline says the accord could set up a market sale or screenings at upcoming festivals for publicity purposes.

Ferrari star Adam Driver leads the cast, with Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Chloe Fineman, Kathryn Hunter, Dustin Hoffman, DB Sweeney, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Bailey Ives, Grace Vanderwaal, and James Remar.

Described by Coppola as a contemporary drama, Megalopolis focuses on the fate of Rome as it haunts a modern world unable to solve its social problems in an epic story of political ambition, genius, and conflicting interests.

Francis Ford Coppola started to write Megalopolis in the 1980s. Still, he recognized that it would require a huge budget to match its massive scope, so it sat on a shelf for decades until he finally decided to give it another shot in 2001. Coppola began shooting second-unit footage but pulled the plug after the 9/11 attacks. As the story revolved around the reconstruction of New York City following a major disaster, he felt that such a project would not sit well with audiences soon after the real-life tragedy.

“The concept of the film is a Roman epic, in the traditional Cecile B. DeMille or Ben-Hur way, but told as a modern counterpart focusing on America,” Coppola previously told Deadline. “It’s based on The Catiline Conspiracy, which comes to us from ancient Rome. This was a famous duel between a patrician, Catiline, and that part will be played by Oscar Isaac, and the famous Cicero, who will be Forest Whitaker. He is now the beleaguered mayor of New York, during a financial crisis, close to the one that Mayor Dinkins had. This story takes place in a new Rome, a Roman epic set in modern times. The time set is not a specific year in modern New York, it’s an impression of modern New York, which I call New Rome.”

Forward momentum can only mean good things for Megalopolis. We’ll monitor the film’s progress and report any updates as they happen. Are you excited about Megalopolis eventually coming to screens? Let us know in the comments below.

The Walking Dead spin-offs and Interview with the Vampire to resume production

The Walking Dead spin-offs and Interview with the Vampire to resume production

AMC and SAG have come to an agreement that will allow production to resume on the Walking Dead spin-offs and Interview with the Vampire

Many of the projects being worked on for major Hollywood studios and American TV networks remain at a standstill due to the ongoing writers and actors strikes – but Deadline reports that AMC has just sealed “significant agreements” with the SAG-AFTRA actors union that will allow them to resume production Interview with the Vampire season 2, as well as the Walking Dead spin-offs Daryl Dixon and The Ones Who Live!

According to Deadline, “It’s understood that these agreements are specific to these three shows, rather than a blanket agreement between the company and the guild. AMC Networks, which produces the shows via AMC Studios, confirmed the waivers to Deadline, but didn’t comment further. AMC Networks is what’s known as an authorized company with regards to the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers but is not among the studios involved in the negotiations.

Interview with the Vampire season 2 will now resume filming in Prague, while Daryl Dixon is set to start filming its second season in Europe – even though the first season of the show, which stars Norman Reedus as the title character, doesn’t even begin airing until September 10th. The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live is a six episode mini-series that focuses on the characters of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira). Filming on that show had wrapped, but Lincoln and Gurira still have some work left to do in post-production, including recording some lines in the ADR booth. Now they’ll be able to record those lines and get The Ones Who Live ready for its 2024 debut.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will present an “epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has the following synopsis: Daryl washes ashore in France and struggles to piece together how he got there and why. The series tracks his journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home. As he makes the journey, though, the connections he forms along the way complicate his ultimate plan.

Interview with the Vampire season 2 will consist of eight episodes. A premiere date has never been announced. Anne Rice’s novel Interview with the Vampire centers on the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac as he relates the story of his life to a reporter, in particular how he was turned into a vampire and then mentored by Lestat de Lioncourt. The AMC version stars Sam Reid as Lestat and Jacob Anderson as his companion Louis de Pointe du Lac.

As a fan of the Walking Dead franchise, I’m glad to hear that Daryl Dixon season 2 and The Ones Who Live will already be able to move forward before the strikes come to an end. While I’m a fan of Anne Rice’s vampire novels, I haven’t gotten around to watching the TV adaptation yet – but for the fans of the show, I’m glad to hear that one will be able to resume production as well.

What do you think of AMC and SAG making an agreement that will allow the Walking Dead spin-offs and Interview with the Vampire to resume production? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Mom: Arlington Road’s Mark Pellington to direct human trafficking revenge thriller

Mom: Arlington Road’s Mark Pellington to direct human trafficking revenge thriller

Mark Pellington, the director of Arlington Road and The Mothman Prophecies, has signed on for the revenge thriller Mom

Roundtable Entertainment has announced that they’re teaming up with director Mark Pellington – whose credits include Arlington Road, The Mothman Prophecies, Henry Poole Is Here, The Last Word, The Severing, and Survive, among many other projects – for the adrenaline-fueled human trafficking revenge thriller Mom.

Scripted by Brent Jordan, Mom tells the compelling story of a single mother embarking on a daring cross-country rescue mission, piecing together clues in the search for her teenage daughter who has fallen victim to the horrors of human trafficking.

Casting Director Lisa Zagoria, who assembled the cast for the Best Picture winner CODA, will be handling the casting of this film as well.

Pellington had this to say about the project: “Mom is a fast-moving story of protection and revenge. The film explores the true price of violence and the cost of justice, when an ordinary mom is pushed to an extraordinary place. This is a muscular, intense dramatic thriller with a commanding lead role that is emotional, relatable, and grounded. I’m hungry and humble and super pleased to be collaborating with Roundtable on this piece. From Arlington Road to Pearl Jam’s “Jeremy”, I love to create intense dark action with emotional power and a brain and feel that Mom continues in that thrilling lineage of my work.

Roundtable CEO Dominic Ianno added, “Roundtable looks to build franchises behind commercial product. Mom has all the makings of a female version of Taken and is an important story to bring to the world. I had the privilege of being involved with Larysa Kondracki’s The Whistleblower (Rachel Weisz) and this story shows another side happening right here in the U.S.

Roundtable’s Head of Scripted John Baldecchi will be producing the film while Ianno and Pellington serve as executive producers alongside Jason Resnick, Sarah Donnelly, and Gabe Torres. Baldecchi provided the following statement: “We had been looking to do a movie that felt like a throwback to a movie like Rolling Thunder – something real, gritty and of the moment; we were thrilled that Gabe Torres brought us this harrowing tale which is based on true events – and straight out of screenwriter Brent Jordan’s life experience. And Mark is the ideal partner for the material.

And Donnelly, who is Roundtable’s Head of Production, said, “Mark is a prolific filmmaker who has a profound understanding of the human experience. As a director, his unique ability to tell morally complex stories and handle delicate material with a masterful touch is exactly why we are so excited to work with him on Mom. In Mark’s capable hands, Mom will be a truly entertaining film, with enough realism and grit to keep this incredibly timely story grounded in the harsh reality of human trafficking and a mother’s fight to save her child.

The press release announcing the project notes that “Over 27 million people worldwide can be classified as victims of human trafficking, this staggering number disproportionately impacting females, according to Human Trafficking Courts. The U.S. may be responsible for hundreds of thousands of these cases where women and girls are kidnapped and sold for profit. The few that do survive the horrors of human trafficking are too often not empowered to come forward due to trauma and fear or a lack of available resources. Mom shines a spotlight on the horrific victimization of the innocent and the courage of those who step up to help.

Mark Pellington directing a thriller that shines a spotlight on a real world issue while also drawing comparisons to the likes of Taken and Rolling Thunder sounds like a great project to me. I look forward to seeing how this is going to turn out.

Rotten Tomatoes critics pick the best movies of the last 25 years

Rotten Tomatoes critics, including our own Chris Bumbray, have picked the best movies of the last 25 years.

Some might say it’s impossible to craft a best movie list that everyone agrees with, but that doesn’t stop us from reading them and letting everyone know how wrong they are. In celebration of their 25th anniversary, Rotten Tomatoes has created a list of the best movies of the last 25 years. Approved Tomatometer critics (including our own Chris Bumbray) were asked to choose their top five movies in no particular order. The votes were then tallied and narrowed down to the 25 most popular selections.

You can check out the Rotten Tomatoes list of the best movies of the last 25 years below:

  1. Mad Max: Fury Road (George Miller)
  2. Parasite (Bong Joon-ho)
  3. Mulholland Dr. (David Lynch)
  4. The Dark Knight (Christopher Nolan)
  5. Portrait of a Lady on Fire (Céline Sciamma)
  6. In the Mood for Love (Kar-Wai Wong)
  7. Spirited Away (Hayao Miyazaki)

All in all, it’s an excellent selection of films from some very talented filmmakers. In addition to casting his vote for the best movies of the last 25 years, Chris Bumbray and the rest of the polled critics also picked their top five favourite TV shows of the last 25 years. As you might expect, Breaking Bad topped the list but shows such as The Wire, Game of Thrones, The Office, The Leftovers, BoJack Horseman, and more made up the rest. You can check out the complete TV list right here.

Which movies released in the last 25 years were snubbed from the Rotten Tomatoes list? While we’re at it, please give us your list of the best movies of the last 25 years in the comments below!

Personalized Analysis From Breath Hub Redefines the Power of Breathwork
New research from the only app offering personalized breathwork analysis proves a science-based approach is the quickest way to help overcome most common health complaints, including tiredness, headaches, back pain, and mood swings.

Nevsah Fidan Karamehmet, Founder and CEO of Breath Hub

\"Humans living in the 21st century deserve to reach sustainable health and well-being. It is time to level up. And I am certain Breath Hub will be one of the major platforms they will be able to do that.\"

Breath Hub's innovative breath analysis feature has proven to be a game-changer in the global breathwork community. In a recent study, the app's science-based approach to breathwork improved participants' mental and physical health in just one week, highlighting the critical role of breath analysis in creating customized breathing programs based on an individual's physiology.

Breathwork has long been recognized as a powerful tool for improving physical, mental, and emotional well-being. However, finding the right guidance and techniques can be difficult in a sea of misinformation.

Breath Hub is the only app that's backed by science, delivering a personalized program to users based on their individual needs. While other resources can provide general guidance and motivation, they often lack the critical aspect of breath analysis and rely on unscientific methods.

Breath analysis is crucial for understanding how an individual breathes and identifying any dysfunctional breathing habits.

Breath Hub uses cutting-edge technology and years of research to analyze an individual's breathing patterns and habits. By asking a series of simple questions backed by behavioral health sciences, Breath Hub can gain a deep understanding of how users breathe and identify any incorrect breathing habits. This personalized approach ensures that each individual receives a customized breathing program tailored to their specific physiology and needs.

The recent case study, involving exclusively white-collar workers, assessed the impact of using Breath Hub over a seven-day period. Participants were asked to rate their experience of various issues that hindered their productivity, happiness and energy levels at work. These included difficulty focusing, tiredness, headaches and migraines, back pain, brain fog and mood swings.

The results show that there is a strong correlation between these issues and that they often occur together. However, even after just one week of using Breath Hub regularly, participants reported significant improvements in almost all of these problem areas.

  • 24.2% reduction in poor focus and concentration
  • 23.6% reduction in daytime tiredness
  • 18.8% reduction in mood swings
  • 18.2% reduction in back pain
  • 17% reduction in brain fog
  • 14.8% reduction in struggling to get up in the morning

Participants also reported a 7.6% reduction in headaches and migraines. Although it takes longer than a week to fully alleviate these types of problems, the trend of improvement is promising.

The results highlight the critical role of a science-based approach to breath analysis and customized breathing programs based on an individual's physiology.

Beau is Afraid: Ari Aster reflects on mixed reaction to the film

Beau is Afraid: Ari Aster reflects on mixed reaction to the film

Beau Is Afraid writer/director Ari Aster reflects on the mixed reaction to the film, with some hailing it as a masterpiece and others… not.

It’s safe to say that the reaction to Ari Aster’s Beau Is Afraid was decidedly mixed. Some hailed the film as a masterpiece while others weren’t quite sure what the hell they had just watched. While speaking with Empire, Ari Aster reflected on the audience’s reaction to Beau Is Afraid, adding that he believes it’s a film that benefits from a second (or third) watch.

I do hope people return to it,” Ari Aster said. “It’s definitely a film that I think benefits from going back. I don’t think you quite know what it is until you’ve gone all the way through. I imagine that the second viewing would be hopefully rich in a way that the first one can’t. It’s designed to be wrestled with. I consider the film to be a picaresque, and I think part of that tradition is a certain irreverence towards the integrity of any sort of narrative structure. The film is designed to kind of shapeshift a lot.

Despite the mixed reaction, Aster remains proud of Beau Is Afraid. “I feel like it’s always kind of an unhealthy thing to sit in, the grappling with the release and the reception,” he said. “So I’m happy to be on the other side of it. But I would say that it’s the film I’m proudest of. I think it’s the best filmmaking that I’ve done. I love the film, and I really hope that people continue to find it.” The film stars Joaquin Phoenix as a mild-mannered but anxiety-ridden man who must confront his darkest fears when he embarks on an epic odyssey back home following the death of his mother.

The movie gave our own Chris Bumbray plenty to think about. “If the movie is so well cast and brilliantly made, why isn’t it a masterpiece?” Bumbray wrote. “Aster is trying to make his David Lynch movie here, and while it chugs along nicely for a good hour or two, the last act is deadly. It begins to overstay its welcome, but in many ways, this feels like a calculation by Aster, as I’m not sure he even wants you to like the last part of the movie. Choices are made that seem like a deliberate effort to send people storming out of the theater, and indeed this seems bound to be one of those movies that nabs an F-CinemaScore, although I think it’s a distinction all involved will wear proudly. It isn’t easy to review, as it’s such a full meal that, even a week after seeing it, I’m still utterly baffled by it.” Bumbray ended his review by saying, “I reserve the right to come back to this review and adjust it to a 10 or a zero in the years to come.

Has your opinion on Beau Is Afraid changed since the first viewing?
