House of the Dragon Clare Kilner explains why season 2 of the Game of Thrones prequel series is shorter than the first.
House of the Dragon season 2 will continue telling the blood-soaked history of the Targaryen’s, but that story will be a little shorter this time around. Instead of 10 episodes, House of the Dragon season 2 will consist of just 8 episodes and director Clare Kilner explained to THR why that’s for the best.
“There are eight wonderful episodes with so much happening in every episode, and we have trouble, at times, bringing them down to one hour,” Clare Kilner said. “Ryan’s decision was to give it a good opening and a good ending, and they’re jam-packed with emotional and visually exciting events.” So while the second season will be two episodes shorter, it sounds like each one will be packed to the brim with all the dragons and family drama one could want.
While the House of the Dragon cast were able to work in a “pre-release bubble” for the first season, the new season has been shooting after the series has been unveiled to the world. Clare Kilner said that they “more settled” going into the second season. “They’ve come in this season more relaxed, and there’s a sense of family,” Kilner said. “Everybody knows one another and wants to do good work, and they know their characters so much better.“
One of the biggest additions to the series this season has been Alan Taylor, who directed many stand-out episodes of Game of Thrones. As Clare Kilner explains, Taylor’s presence has led to all the other director’s upping their game. “It’s very inspiring because there are five directors and they’re all different, and we’re all watching the dailies and commenting on one another’s work,” Kilner said. “We can’t help it, we’re all a bit competitive. So, Alan helps us up our game. He’s such an accomplished director, and I really love the way he uses depth of field and focus in his storytelling to bring viewers’ attention to certain elements in the frame. I’ve been watching that and going, ‘How can I evolve in that direction?’“
House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, a Targaryen history book which chronicles the history of House Targaryen, starting off with “Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and [going on] to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold the throne, all the way up to the civil war, known as the Dance of the Dragons, that nearly tore their dynasty apart.”

The Blind Side family attorney responds to Michael Oher’s allegations, calling them “offensive” and “ridiculous”
Michael Oher was the subject of The Blind Side, a movie which followed a homeless and traumatized Black teenager who becomes an All-American football player and first-round NFL draft pick with the help of his caring adoptive parents played by Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw. However, Michael Oher made some serious allegations against The Blind Side family yesterday, saying that they deceived him about being adopted and deprived him of earnings from the movie. The family has now responded to the allegations through their attorney, Marty Singer.
Marty Singer said that the “outlandish claims” made by Michael Oher about Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy are “hurtful and absurd,” and the idea that the family “have ever sought to profit off Mr. Oher is not only offensive, it is transparently ridiculous.” Singer also said that Oher has “attempted to run this play several times before – but it seems that numerous other lawyers stopped representing him once they saw the evidence and learned the truth. Sadly, Mr. Oher has finally found a willing enabler and filed this ludicrous lawsuit as a cynical attempt to drum up attention in the middle of his latest book tour.“
The attorney added that the Tuohy’s have never kept any money earned from The Blind Side from Michael Oher and have always divided it equally among the family. “Over the years, the Tuohys have given Mr. Oher an equal cut of every penny received from The Blind Side,” reads the rebuttal. “Even recently, when Mr. Oher started to threaten them about what he would do unless they paid him an eight-figure windfall, and, as part of that shakedown effort refused to cash the small profit checks from the Tuohys, they still deposited Mr. Oher’s equal share into a trust account they set up for his son.“
You can read Martin Singer’s full statement regarding The Blind Side allegations below:
“Anyone with a modicum of common sense can see that the outlandish claims made by Michael Oher about the Tuohy family are hurtful and absurd. The idea that the Tuohys have ever sought to profit off Mr. Oher is not only offensive, it is transparently ridiculous. Through hard work and good fortune, Sean and Leigh Anne have made an extraordinary amount of money in the restaurant business. The notion that a couple worth hundreds of millions of dollars would connive to withhold a few thousand dollars in profit participation payments from anyone – let alone from someone they loved as a son – defies belief.
In reality, the Tuohys opened their home to Mr. Oher, offered him structure, support and, most of all, unconditional love. They have consistently treated him like a son and one of their three children. His response was to threaten them, including saying that he would plant a negative story about them in the press unless they paid him $15 million.
When Michael Lewis, a friend of Sean’s since childhood, was approached about turning his book on Mr. Oher and the Tuohys into a movie about their family, his agents negotiated a deal where they received a small advance from the production company and a tiny percentage of net profits. They insisted that any money received be divided equally. And they have made good on that pledge.
The evidence – documented in profit participation checks and studio accounting statements – is clear: over the years, the Tuohys have given Mr. Oher an equal cut of every penny received from The Blind Side. Even recently, when Mr. Oher started to threaten them about what he would do unless they paid him an eight-figure windfall, and, as part of that shakedown effort refused to cash the small profit checks from the Tuohys, they still deposited Mr. Oher’s equal share into a trust account they set up for his son.
Additionally, in spite of the false allegation in the lawsuit, the Tuohys have always been upfront about how a conservatorship (from which not one penny was received) was established to assist with Mr. Oher’s needs, ranging from getting him health insurance and obtaining a driver’s license to helping with college admissions. Should Mr. Oher wish to terminate the conservatorship, either now or at anytime in the future, the Tuohys will never oppose it in any way.
Unbeknownst to the public, Mr. Oher has actually attempted to run this play several times before – but it seems that numerous other lawyers stopped representing him once they saw the evidence and learned the truth. Sadly, Mr. Oher has finally found a willing enabler and filed this ludicrous lawsuit as a cynical attempt to drum up attention in the middle of his latest book tour.
The Tuohys will always care deeply for Mr. Oher. They are heartbroken over these events. They desperately hope that he comes to regret his recent decisions, makes different choices in the future and that they someday can be reconciled with him. In the meantime, however, they will not hesitate to defend their good names, stand up to this shakedown and defeat this offensive lawsuit.”
~ Martin Singer, attorney for Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy.
We likely haven’t heard the last of these Blind Side allegations, which unfortunately look to be getting somewhat ugly.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller explain the changes in the Digital version of the movie.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was recently released on Digital and fans quickly noticed many small changes from the version they recall seeing in theaters. While speaking with GamesRadar, Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller explained the reason behind the changes.
“There was an international version that was made almost two months before the movie came out because it had to be translated into different languages and these French censors have to decide what the rating of the movie is in Europe,” Christopher Miller explained. “The team at [Sony Pictures] Imageworks still had some shots that they felt they could do better for the finished version. So, they cleaned up and tweaked those things.“
Miller added that crew members would suggest other changes that made their way into the constantly shifting cut of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. “Certain crew members – people in the sound department or on the animation team – were like, ‘Oh, could we do this instead?’” Miller said. “Let’s do the best possible version we can. Because it’s a multiverse movie, it’s like there’s a multiverse of the movie – that was really the reasoning behind it. It was trying to make the best possible version that everyone was going to be the proudest of.” Phil Lord added, “I think most of the changes are improvements.”
“When Miles Morales is unexpectedly approached by his best friend and love interest Gwen Stacy to complete a mission to save every universe of Spider-People from a mysterious new villain who could cause a catastrophic disaster, Miles is up for the challenge,” reads the official synopsis for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. “He and Gwen journey through the Multiverse together and meet its protectors, a group of Spider-People known as the Spider-Force. However, Miles finds himself at odds with the Spider-Force on how to handle the threat.” Across the Spider-Verse features the voices of Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Vélez, Jake Johnson, Jason Schwartzman, Issa Rae, Karan Soni, Daniel Kaluuya, and Oscar Isaac. The film was directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson from a script by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham.

A new species of snake found in Peru has been named after Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny star Harrison Ford.
Snakes, why’d it have to be snakes? Although Indiana Jones is famously petrified of the reptiles, a new species of snake has been named after Harrison Ford. According to a report published in the scientific journal Salamandra, the newly discovered species of slender snake was found in Peru’s Andes Mountains last spring. The species has been dubbed Tachymenoides harrisonfordi.
“These scientists keep naming critters after me, but it’s always the ones that terrify children,” Harrison Ford said in a statement provided to Entertainment Weekly. “I don’t understand. I spend my free time cross-stitching. I sing lullabies to my basil plants, so they won’t fear the night.“
Harrison Ford continued, “In all seriousness, this discovery is humbling. It’s a reminder that there’s still so much to learn about our wild world — and that humans are one small part of an impossibly vast biosphere. On this planet, all fates are intertwined, and right now, one million species are teetering on the edge of oblivion. We have an existential mandate to mend our broken relationship with nature and protect the places that sustain life.” Tachymenoides harrisonfordi measures 16 inches in length and is pale yellowish-brown with scattered black flecks, a black stomach, and black stripes.
As Harrison Ford mentioned, this new snake isn’t the only critter named in the actor’s honour. There’s also an ant (Pheidole harrisonfordi) and a spider (alponia harrisonfordi) which share his name. Neil Cox, manager of the Conservation International-IUCN Biodiversity Assessment Unit, said: “Too often, reptile conservation can be overlooked. Most people likely don’t find snakes as cute as a fluffy panda cub, but their role in the world’s ecosystems is just as important. This discovery helps us better understand how snake species exist and survive in the world, and I hope that its fun name will help draw attention to the threat of extinction facing reptiles globally.”
Harrison Ford was most recently seen in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The sequel also stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), Antonio Banderas (Puss in Boots: The Last Wish), John Rhys-Davies (Raiders of the Lost Ark), Shaunette Renée Wilson (Black Panther), Thomas Kretschmann (Das Boot), Toby Jones (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Olivier Richters (Black Widow), Mads Mikkelsen (Doctor Strange) and newcomer Ethann Isidore. The film will be released on digital retailers on August 29th.
Spielberg used a helicopter and lemonade to convince Will Smith to star in 1997’s Men in Black even though he wanted a break from aliens.
Following the massive success of summer blockbuster Independence Day – opening at #1 and going on to be the highest-grossing movie of 1996 – Will Smith had his pick of what movie he wanted to do next, with countless offers hitting his desk. Whatever that project would be, he just wanted to avoid aliens. Fortunately, a director who has a lengthy history with extraterrestrials used his power – and some Hollywood flash – to convince Will Smith that his next project would in fact be Men in Black.
Speaking with Kevin Hart on Hart to Heart, Will Smith said producer James Lassiter first brought Men in Black to him. “[Lassiter] picked Men in Black…I kinda understood Men in Black like a little bit, but I didn’t want to make Men in Black — that was the next year after Independence Day. So I didn’t want to make two alien movies back to back.” Enter Steven Spielberg (whose Amblin Entertainment was co-producing), who showed up in a helicopter and offered Smith “lemonade with carbonated water”…which sounds pretty fancy to us!
Spielberg then leaned into Will Smith about why he didn’t want to sign on for Men in Black. “Tell me why you don’t want to make my movie…He put the ellipses at the end…if he had continued, he woulda said, ‘Joker, you know I made Jaws, right? You know I made E.T.’” Smith said it was the “coldest sh*t” he’d ever experienced…up until that point, at least.
Obviously the whole Men in Black thing worked out for Smith, as the first one was the biggest earner of 1997 and the second and third installments pulled in over $1 billion worldwide total. It also spawned a spin-off, 2019’s Men in Black: International, which traded in Smith and Tommy Lee Jones for Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson (hey, at least we got Frank the Pug!). Perhaps for the better, the planned Men in Black / 21 Jump Streetcrossover is off the table.
Are you a fan of the Men in Black movies? Would you watch a fourth installment if Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones signed on? Let us know!
