Hoag Hospital and Imagene Partner to Empower Rapid Cancer Diagnosis for Personalized Cancer Care
Leveraging AI-based molecular profiling from a digitized biopsy image to enable physicians to gain immediate oncology intelligence.

Hoag, the largest community-based healthcare system in southern California, and Imagene, an emerging leader in the field of AI-based precision oncology, are pleased to announce their strategic collaboration aimed at transforming molecular diagnosis and advancing personalized cancer care. The transformative research brings together Hoag's commitment to delivering world-class, personalized, and accessible healthcare, with Imagene's expertise in rapid AI-based molecular profiling, paving the way for merging new technologies within the clinical workflows.

By harnessing the power of AI-based molecular profiling to research the impact on improving turnaround time and personalized treatments, Hoag furthers its healthcare innovation leadership for the purpose of improving the delivery of cancer patient care and outcomes. One of the primary goals of the collaboration is to leverage advanced technologies' seamless integration to increase health equity by making fast and accurate molecular profiling accessible to more patients.

Dr. David R. Braxton, Chief of Molecular Pathology Services at Hoag Family Cancer Institute and Principal Investigator for the study, is optimistic and excited about the potential findings derived from AI-based digital biomarker detection in cancer patients. "Traditional molecular biomarker testing is expensive and can take weeks for patients to receive their results. Imagene's AI-based biomarker detection shows great promise for significantly reducing the waiting time for patients to begin targeted therapies," says Dr. Braxton. "I expect that this kind of technology can be deployed into every hospital in the U.S. and lead to better and earlier cancer care for patients no matter where they live," he adds.

The partnership aims to overcome the current complexities associated with cancer diagnosis and explore the advancements AI-based molecular profiling can offer. By combining Imagene's technology expertise with Hoag's access to community patients, advanced digital lab services, and clinical diagnostic footprint, this collaboration demonstrates real promise for the future of personalized cancer care and achieving the goals of precision medicine.

"We are excited to collaborate with Hoag, a leading community-based hospital that shares our vision of making molecular profiling accessible to all patients who need it," says Dean Bitan, Co-founder and CEO of Imagene. "By working together, we aim to prove the value of rapid molecular testing that empowers medical teams to navigate the patient journey and make informed decisions related to the complex clinical junctions in cancer care."

Dr. Michael Brandt-Zawadzki, Senior Physician Executive at Hoag, states that "Hoag is committed to enhance community access to highly novel, cutting-edge medical technologies, including Imagene's. Hoag's innovation hub serves as a clinical test bed to accelerate AI/software development from premise to practice, and to support FDA approval and commercialization of life-saving innovation for cancer care."

With over 80% of cancer patients in the U.S. choosing to get treatment in community-based settings for more personalized and convenient care, the collaboration between Imagene and Hoag provides a real-world setting to demonstrate the impact of innovative technologies on advancing community-based cancer care.

The Incredible Hulk director says sequel had “good stuff”

The Incredible Hulk director says sequel had “good stuff”

The sequel to The Incredible Hulk had Grey and Red Hulks, with director Louis Leterrier saying there was more “good stuff” we’ll never see.

Hulk angry! And director Louis Leterrier might not be all that happy either, saying his planned sequel to 2008’s The Incredible Hulk had such potential before it got smashed to bits.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Leterrier confirmed that “there was like a whole sequel” set for The Incredible Hulk. “There was like Grey Hulk, Red Hulks – there was a lot of good stuff that we were planning…Hulk is a complex character within the Marvel Universe…You want the primeval Hulk…the rage Hulk. And then when you go Grey Hulk and Smart Hulk you lose that a little bit and you get a little bit more kiddish with it.”

Objectively, with such animosity behind the scenes – Edward Norton went after Marvel over the edit of the movie, with Kevin Feige later declaring they would boot Norton for “an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit” – an Incredible Hulk sequel with all of the pieces in place never really seemed all that likely.

Fifteen years on, Leterrier doesn’t seem so confident that his Incredible Hulk sequel could ever work considering the places Marvel has taken it. “But that was the fun of where I was in my movie, with the access to consciousness and all that stuff. That was really fun. And that’s what I was aiming to do. But take my time with it. Because there’s so many characters they want it all fast [laughs]. I like She-Hulk, but then you know, yoga between Hulk and… I was like ‘Okay! yeah, we’re very far from my Hulk.’” Interestingly, She-Hulk tossed around the idea of having Edward Norton reprise the character.

As one of the worst-reviewed entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the only one to not have the lead actor return for the subsequent entries – Norton was of course replaced by Mark Ruffalo – The Incredible Hulk remains an oddball title in the MCU, one you sort of just have to stomach when you binge the franchise.

Would you have wanted a direct sequel to The Incredible Hulk? How would it have played a role in the development of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Give us your take in the comments section below!

Emily Blunt talks passing on Black Widow and other rumored MCU roles

Emily Blunt talks passing on Black Widow and other rumored MCU roles

Emily Blunt has an impressive filmography, but she was nearly to be part of the MCU as Black Widow had it not been for contractual obligations.

One of the earliest character integrations into the MCU, after a post-credits Nick Fury appeared in Iron Man, was the mysterious secretary Natalie, who was later revealed to be Natasha Romanoff, an agent for S.H.I.E.L.D. with the codename Black Widow, in Iron Man 2. Established actress Scarlett Johansson, who had already gained acclaim with projects like Lost in Translation and tried her hand at big-budget action with The Island, would begin her journey with the franchise which would make her a household name.

Down the line, it would be revealed that Emily Blunt had almost played the role, but had been forced to opt out due to a pre-existing contract. According to Deadline, Blunt weighed in on the experience when she recently appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. Blunt would get quite…well, blunt…on the topic. “Come on, the best girl got it,” she stated while adding that Johansson was “amazing” in the role.

In 2019, Blunt reflected on Howard Stern about the disappointment when she had to pass on being Black Widow due to her being contractually obligated to make the Jack Black comedy, Gulliver’s Travels, in 2010, despite not wanting to do the film. “It was a bit of a heartbreaker for me because I take such pride in the decisions that I make, and they mean so much to me, the films that I do, so that was tough. They [Fox] kind of have a bit of a hold over you. There were other movies that I would want to do.”

On Happy Sad Confused, she also responded to the other rumored roles in Marvel movies that she was allegedly up for, which is said to have included Captain Marvel which ultimately went to Brie Larson, Peggy Carter who Hayley Atwell ended up playing and Sue Storm from Fantastic Four which went to Jessica Alba and Kate Mara in different adaptations of the franchise.”

Blunt waved off those theories pretty quickly, “Rumors. Talk. Queries. That kind of thing.” She states she had never met with producers or directors for talks of any of those projects.

Shooting Clerks: Movie about the making of Kevin Smith’s groundbreaking film to premiere this month

Shooting Clerks: Movie about the making of Kevin Smith’s groundbreaking film to premiere this month

The indie biopic depicting the making of the indie film that defied the odds is set to premiere in Kevin Smith’s hometown theater.

Kevin Smith, who has recently been approved with a SAG waiver to make his new movie The 4:30 Movie, is one of the biggest pioneers in independent filmmaking in the 1990s. He joins Robert Rodriguez as someone who was able to make a feature film on a minuscule budget with basically no crew on a do-it-yourself mentality. Both directors would gain acclaim for their efforts as both Clerks and El Mariachi won over fans at film festivals and started a revolution of non-studio productions. Smith would go on to carry over the characters Jay and Silent Bob onto his other films, including their own spin-offs, and even made two sequels to the one that started it all.

It’s hard for aspiring filmmakers not to be inspired by the groundbreaking indie film, and in a bit of poetry, indie filmmakers have made a movie about Kevin Smith and the making of Clerks in the film from Auld Reekie Media and Pink Plaid Productions titled Shooting Clerks. The film is set to have its theatrical debut with a premiere at Kevin Smith’s recently acquired hometown theater SModcastle Cinemas in New Jersey on Sunday, August 13 at 2PM.

The synopsis from the press release reads,
“The true story of how convenience store clerk Kevin Smith made his grainy $27,000 film Clerks with maxed-out credit cards and the people who aided him in his indie crusade.”

The film’s director, Christopher Downie, is aiming to inspire other aspiring filmmakers to follow their dreams with this affectionate tribute. Downie states, “The tagline ‘It’s all about making a movie with your friends’ says it all for me, personally. I always had help from friends and family when making movies. It’s carried through my entire career because it makes the process an enjoyable experience. Those who we hired to work on the film, namely the cast and my producer Ryan James, have become close friends, mainly because they share the same sentiment. It truly is all about making a movie with your friends.”

Smith himself jumped on the project as an executive producer after the people behind the film had previously released shorts that had caught his attention. In true Smith fashion, the film would feature cameos such as TROMA’s Lloyd Kaufman (The Toxic Avenger), James Rolfe (The Angry Video Game Nerd), Sanjeev Kohli (Still Game, Filth), Matthew Postlethwaite (Peaky Blinders, The Great Artist).

According to the press release, immediately following the screening, the cast and crew, including Kevin Smith himself, the film’s director Christopher Downie and producer Ryan James will take to the stage for an all access Q & A.

You can head to the official site at shootingclerks.com to purchase tickets.

Zombie Town: R.L. Stine movie starring Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase gets PG-13 rating

Zombie Town: R.L. Stine movie starring Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase gets PG-13 rating

The R.L. Stine adaptation Zombie Town, starring Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase, has received a PG-13 rating from the MPA

More than nine months have passed by since author R.L. Stine shared an early poster for the upcoming adaptation of his novel Zombie Town, and now we finally have a new update to share. The finished film has been screened for the Motion Picture Association ratings board and has secured a PG-13 rating for “some language and bloody images“. Now we just need to hear when this movie is going to be released.

Stine’s Zombie Town sees a quiet town upended when 12-year-old Mike and his friend, Karen, see a horror movie called Zombie Town and unexpectedly see the title characters leap off the screen and chase them through the theater.

The cinematic adaptation was directed by animator Peter Lepeniotis. Marlon Kazadi (Child’s Play 2019) and Madi Monroe (Attaway General) are the leads in the film, which is described as “a mystery teen romancer”. Also in the cast are Henry Czerny (Mission: Impossible) and Kids in the Hall members Scott Thompson and Bruce McCulloch, plus Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase, who have worked together multiple times over the decades – Saturday Night Live, Spies Like Us, Caddyshack II, The Couch Trip, Nothing But Trouble, the music video for Ray Parker Jr.’s “Ghostbusters” theme song.

Zombie Town is executive produced by Trimuse Entertainment, Toonz Media Group, Lookout Entertainment, Viva Pictures, and actor Kim Coates

Zombie Town will receive a theatrical release in the United States, then move to the Hulu streaming service. It’s also expected to get a release through ABC Australia sometime before the end of the year.

Have you read the R.L. Stine novel Zombie Town, and are you looking forward to seeing how the movie version has turned out? What do you think of the reasons for the PG-13 rating? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

I haven’t read the book and can’t say I have particularly high hopes for the movie, but the presence of Aykroyd, Chase, and a couple of Kids in the Hall in the cast is enough to get me to watch it at least once. Here’s hoping a release date announcement isn’t far off.

Magnum P.I. (1980-88): Gone But Not Forgotten

Magnum P.I. (1980-88): Gone But Not Forgotten

In this episode of Gone But Not Forgotten, we look back at the iconic 80s TV show Magnum P.I. starring the great Tom Selleck!

One of the coolest guys of the eighties was Tom Selleck, and everyone absolutely loved him playing the laid-back Thomas Magnum on the classic series Magnum, P.I. Running from 1980 to 1988; the show proved to be a mixed blessing for its star, as Selleck had auditioned to play Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark and was actually chosen to play the part. He had to pass because he had already shot the pilot for Magnum, P.I., and the network wouldn’t let him out of his contract.

While passing up the opportunity to play the whip-wielding archeologist must have stung, Magnum P.I. ran for eight years and was one of the biggest shows of the decade. Selleck became a household name and parlayed his success on the show into a series of film roles (including Best Movie You Never Saw fave Runaway), culminating with the release of Three Men and a Baby, which became the biggest hit of 1987.

In this episode of Gone But Not Forgotten, we take a look at the long-running Magnum P.I, which has since been rebooted yet lacks the magic of the original show, which sported a memorable supporting casting including Roger E. Mosley and Larry Manetti as Magnum’s NAM buddies T.C and Rick, as well as John Hillerman as Higgins, the estate manager for the elusive Robin Masters, who bankrolls Magnum’s adventures.

Are you a Magnum P.I. fan? Let us know in the comments!
