The Exorcist: Believer trailer is attached to Oppenheimer

Theatres are showing the trailer for The Exorcist: Believer ahead of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer this weekend

Blumhouse Productions, Morgan Creek Entertainment, and director David Gordon Green are teaming up to make a new trilogy of The Exorcist sequels for Universal and Peacock, starting with The Exorcist: Believer – which is scheduled to reach theatres on October 13th. Yesterday, Universal unveiled a trio of posters for the film, and now it has come to our attention that the trailer for The Exorcist: Believer is attached to this weekend’s Universal release, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer! (Read our Oppenheimer review HERE.)

We don’t know when the trailer will be making its way online, but if you head out to see Oppenheimer this weekend, chances are you’ll get to see the trailer on the big screen. JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray got the chance to see a trailer for The Exorcist: Believer at CinemaCon earlier this year, and you can hear about it at THIS LINK.

Universal and Peacock forked over an amount somewhere in the range of $400 million to acquire the rights to distribute this trilogy. Green previously directed a trilogy of Halloween sequels. He crafted the story for The Exorcist: Believer with Peter Sattler (Broken Diamonds), then wrote the screenplay with Danny McBride (who wrote all three of the new Halloweens with him) and their Halloween Kills co-writer Scott Teems.

Ellen Burstyn reprises the role of Chris MacNeil, the character she played in the 1973 classic The Exorcist (watch it HERE), and Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton) plays a a character who tracks down Chris MacNeil after his child becomes possessed. Odom and Burstyn are joined in the cast by Lidya Jewett (Nightbooks), Jennifer Nettles (The Righteous Gemstones), Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale), Okwui Okpokwasili (Master), and newcomer Olivia Marcum, playing unspecified roles, and Raphael Sbarge (Carnosaur) as a pastor. Original The Exorcist star Linda Blair is in there as well, reprising the role of Chris MacNeil’s daughter Regan.

The Exorcist: Believer is being produced by Jason Blum, David Robinson, and James Robinson. Green, Danny McBride, Stephanie Allain, and Couper Samuelson serve as executive producers. Ryan Turek is overseeing the project for Blumhouse.

Blue Beetle is scuttling toward a $17M domestic opening according to early box office predictions

Blue Beetle is scuttling toward a M domestic opening according to early box office predictions

Analysts predict DC’s Blue Beetle could have the worst opening at the box office for a DCEU film with a $17M debut.

DC’s Blue Beetle is skittering toward an unfortunate opening at the box office if the latest predictions are accurate. According to Boxoffice Pro, the superhero film starring Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes is tracking for the lowest opening weekend in the DC Extended Universe’s history. The site predicts a $12M-$17M domestic take for Blue Beetle’s opening gambit. Analysts also expect a domestic total of $27M-$55M for the film’s domestic run, a number that places Blue Beetle on the low end of DC‘s rickety ladder. However, it’s possible that the numbers are wrong, and Blue Beetle will open stronger than anticipated. We’ve seen underdog films blow past predictions, and positive word of mouth could boost the film’s performance.

Blue Beetle stars Xolo Maridueña as Jamie Reyes, a recent college grad who returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. “As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab,” reads the official Blue Beetle synopsis. “When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero Blue Beetle.”

In addition to Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai), Blue Beetle also stars Adriana Barraza (Rambo: Last Blood) as Jaime’s grandmother, Nana, Damían Alcázar (Narcos: Mexico) as his father, Elpidia Carrillo (Mayans M.C.) as his mother, Bruna Marquezine (God Save the King) as Jenny Kord, Raoul Max Trujillo (Sicario) as Carapax, with Oscar winner Susan Sarandon (Dead Man Walking) as Victoria Kord, and George Lopez (Rio) as Jaime’s Uncle Rudy. The film also stars Belissa Escobedo (American Horror Stories) as Jaime’s sister, Milagro, and Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows) as Dr. Sanchez. Angel Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings) directed Blue Beetle from a Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (Miss Bala) screenplay.

Unfortunately for Blue Beetle, the SAG-AFTRA strike prevents a traditional promotion cycle leading up to the film’s release. Blue Beetle is disadvantaged without actors on hand to promote the film, and DC refuses to push the movie to 2024 (unlike Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom).

Speaking as someone excited to see Blue Beetle, I hope the movie is good and that if people dig it, they sing its praises online. Fans could be the film’s most significant ally when Hollywood is in unrest. We’ll see.

Blue Beetle comes to cinemas on August 18, 2023.

Crypt of Shadows: Marvel publishing one-shot horror comic this October

Marvel Comics will be publish a one-shot horror comic called Crypt of Shadows this October, featuring Deadpool, Scarlet Witch, Hulk, & more

From October of 1972 through August of 1975, Marvel Comics published twenty-one issues of a horror comic called Crypt of Shadows. That series got a one-shot revival in 2019, and now Marvel has announced that there’s going to be another one-shot revival of Crypt of Shadows this October – and this time the horror comic book is going to feature several Marvel superhero characters!

Set to reach store shelves on October 18th, the new Crypt of Shadows #1 is coming our way from writers Al Ewing, Steve Orlando, Sarah Gailey, Cavan Scott, and Declan Shalvey, and artists Paul Davidson, Paul Azaceta, Eder Messias, Devmalya Pramanik, and Alex Lins. Leinil Francis Yu has created the cover for the issue, and you can check that out at the bottom of this article.

Here’s the information on Crypt of Shadows #1: The hit one-shot is back for another year of tales starring some of the spookiest characters comics has to offer. The crypt will be reopened and the creatures, monsters, and ghouls of the Marvel Universe will emerge in this collection of terrifying and easily accessible stories that will haunt new fans and longtime readers alike this Halloween season! Once more, as All Hallows’ Eve draws nigh, the dust-covered slab that seals shut the crypt, blocking out the sun and casting it forever in shadow, has creaked open to let the darkness loose to prey on the Marvel Universe! Be they mercenary or mage, guided by law or by rage, our heroes will face their terror, and they’d best pray their spines are sturdy enough for the job… or the crypt they find may well be their own!

And here’s the list of stories the issue will contain:

Victor Strange, younger brother of Doctor Strange, goes deeper than ever into the crypt as he once again plays host to the frightful festivities in a framing story by writer Al Ewing and artist Paul Davidson.

Writer Cavan Scott and artist Devmalya Pramanik present a devilishly delightful Deadpool story that features the classic horror character the Living Mummy and sets him up for an exciting new status quo!

Current Scarlet Witch scribe Steve Orlando and artist Paul Azaceta weave a Scarlet Witch story where she faces a terrifying new villain called the Bricklayer!

Writer Sarah Gailey and artist Eder Messias explore “man vs. monster” in a tale starring Werewolf by Night and the Hulk!

The swamp creature who burns all who know fear battles alongside the man without fear! See Daredevil and Man-Thing team up for a spine-tingling adventure from writer Declan Shalvey and artist Alex Lins.

This sounds pretty cool to me. Will you be picking up a copy of Crypt of Shadows #1? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

The Walking Dead: Dead City & The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon renewed for second seasons

AMC Networks has renewed The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon for second seasons.

AMC Networks announced at San Diego Comic-Con today that they have renewed The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon for second seasons.

This next chapter in the Walking Dead Universe continues to thrive with a terrific inaugural season for Dead City and highly anticipated new journey for fan-favorite character Daryl Dixon coming in September,” said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks. “We can’t wait to bring Dead City fans back to the epicenter of Manhattan for more zip-lining action with Maggie and Negan. And, ahead of its debut, we’re thrilled to double down on Daryl as we bring the apocalypse to France, transforming Notre Dame, Pont du Gard and other iconic locales into an apocalyptic landscape unlike anything we’ve seen before.

The Walking Dead: Dead City stars Lauren Cohan as Maggie and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan as they travel into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, long ago cut off from the mainland. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror. The finale of the six-episode season will air on Sunday, July 23rd at 9:00 pm ET/PT on AMC and AMC+.

The first season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will debut on September 10th at 9:00 pm ET/PT on AMC and AMC+. The series stars Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, who washes ashore in France and struggles to piece together how he got there and why. The series tracks his journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home. As he makes the journey, though, the connections he forms along the way complicate his ultimate plan.

Although the flagship series may have ended, you really can’t stop The Walking Dead Universe. In addition to Dead City and Daryl Dixon, fans can also expect the second half of the eighth and final of Fear the Walking Dead this fall, as well as the Rick and Michonne series featuring Andrew Lincoln and Dania Gurira next year.

If you’ve been watching The Walking Dead: Dead City, are you happy to see the series get renewed?

Barbie & Oppenheimer: What Did You Think?

Barbie & Oppenheimer: What Did You Think?

Barbie and Oppenheimer are now playing in theaters as the biggest double-bill of the summer, why not let us know what you thought of them?

Audiences love a double feature, but the pairing of Barbie and Oppenheimer is something else altogether. The two films couldn’t be more different, but they’ve become the must-see match of the summer. Both have gotten off to a great start at the box-office, with Barbie taking $20 million in preview screenings and Oppenheimer following with $9 million.

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie features a star-studded cast which includes Margot Robbie as the title character and Ryan Gosling as Ken. When Barbie suddenly begins to worry about her own mortality, she goes on a journey of self-discovery to the real-world, accompanied by a love-lorn Ken.

Our own Chris Bumbray found plenty to like about Barbie, but the standout was Ryan Gosling’s performance as Ken. “It’s ironic that in a movie called Barbie, everyone, inevitably, is going to walk out of this raving about Ken,” Bumbray wrote in his review. “Ryan Gosling gets one of the best roles of his career here. If the Academy ever wises up and embraces comedy, he’s a lock for a best supporting actor nod. He’s hilarious, showing off a killer comic sensibility while never losing sight of Ken’s sweet side, even if, for a while anyway, he becomes a bit of an antagonist. He also gets a jaw-dropping musical number/ dance sequence towards the end of the film, which is one of the most dazzling cinematic sequences in recent memory.” You can check out the rest of Bumbray’s review right here.

Much like Barbie, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer also features an all-star cast which includes Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer, the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it, Emily Blunt as his wife, biologist and botanist Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer, Matt Damon as General Leslie Groves Jr., director of the Manhattan Project, and Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss.

Oppenheimer is a startling, mesmerizing experience, not one easy to explain or sum up,” Our own Eric Walkuski wrote in his review. “Of course, it wouldn’t be a Nolan movie if it were, but the film sees the writer-director at the height of his powers as filmmaker and storyteller – not to mention nimble time-jumper. Perhaps the most important film of the director’s career thus far, Oppenheimer is an old fashioned Hollywood biopic/historical epic in the way it’s filled with great actors giving their very all in showy roles while an undeniably crucial chapter in our history is told with no expenses spared.” You can check out the rest of Walkuski’s review right here.

Barbie is currently sitting at 90% on Rotten Tomatoes with Oppenheimer just a few points above at 94%. Let us know what you thought of Barbie and/or Oppenheimer in the comments below!

The Arrow In The Head Show Gets Down and Dirty With Schwarzenegger’s Raw Deal

The new episode of The Arrow in the Head Show looks back at the Arnold Schwarzenegger film Raw Deal. Is it a hidden gem?

On today’s The Arrow In The Head Show, Lance Vlcek and John “The Arrow” Fallon take on the little seen yet highly entertaining Raw Deal (1986) starring the inimitable Arnold Schwarzenegger at his smug best. After Conan, The Terminator, Red Sonja and Commando – Arnie took on a very different kind of role at this point in his career and showcased glimpses of the charm and gravitas that he would eventually fully display in films like True Lies and Kindergarden Cop.

The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kathryn Harrold, Robert Davi and Paul Shenar and is about:

A former FBI agent turned small-town sheriff agrees to help the FBI chief infiltrate the Chicago mafia when the FBI chief’s son is killed by them.

The M.O. of The Arrow in the Head Show is: After many years behind the scenes, we’ve decided to take our sarcastic, booze-influenced style into the video age with The Arrow In The Head Show! Hosted by John Fallon aka The Arrow and Lance Vlcek, the show digs into the good, bad, and ugly of horror, sci-fi and action from the golden ages of the ’80s through the underrated 90s and maybe a bit beyond. Something groovy and a tad rough around the edges, we are here to talk shop with a drink in hand, a bit of foul language, and a whole lot of hea
