Idris Elba is ready for more Luther movies after the success of The Fallen Sun

Idris Elba is ready for more Luther movies after the success of The Fallen Sun

Idris Elba is ready to star in more Luther movies after the success of Luther: The Fallen Sun on Netflix.

There had been rumblings of a Luther movie for close to a decade, and Idris Elba finally got his chance with Luther: The Fallen Sun. The film was released in select theaters and on Netflix earlier this year, but Elba is ready to jump back into Luther’s world.

While speaking with Collider, Idris Elba said that Luther: The Fallen Sun performed well on Netflix and that a sequel is a possibility. “Yeah, it did really well. Luther ended up being one of the top five most streamed films on Netflix, which is an incredible achievement, since it was the first film from the television show,” Elba said. “I’m hoping to make another one. I love Luther. I love that character, and I love where I can possibly take him, as a story and as a character. So, yeah, keep your fingers crossed.

If you’re not familiar with Luther, the BBC series stars Elba as Detective Chief Inspector John Luther, a dedicated and obsessive police officer who often finds himself becoming consumed by the darkness of the crimes he deals with. Luther: The Fallen Sun found the character breaking out of prison in order to hunt down a sadistic serial killer who is terrorizing London.

Our own JimmyO enjoyed Luther: The Fallen Sun quite a bit. “Whether or not you are new to Luther, there is much to enjoy in this tense and atmospheric thriller,” JimmyO wrote in his review. “Idris Elba, Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis, and the rest of the cast are terrific, and the nerve-inducing tension rarely lets up. You may find a few brief moments that feel a bit rushed, but it hardly detracts from the story. What you have here is a solid direction for the series to take. And giving it an edge with the R-rating makes for a vicious and brutal story with a memorable villain.” You can check out the rest of JimmyO’s review right here.

Idris Elba can currently be seen starring in Hijack, a thriller series that debuted on Apple TV+ last week. “The action takes place in real-time, over the course of the seven-hour flight from Dubai to London,” reads the official synopsis. “The clock starts ticking as Sam (Idris Elba) tries first to negotiate and then outsmart the terrorists but, in so doing, uncovers a larger conspiracy. The action takes place in real-time, over the course of the seven-hour flight from Dubai to London. On the ground in London, a counter-terrorism team led by Archie Panjabi becomes embroiled in the investigation and scrambles to find answers before passengers start dying.” Take a peek at a review from our own Alex Maidy if you’re curious.

Den of Thieves 2: Pantera: Michael Bisping joins sequel cast alongside Gerard Butler

Den of Thieves 2: Pantera: Michael Bisping joins sequel cast alongside Gerard Butler

UFC champ Michael Bisping joins Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson Jr in Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, which is currently filming.

THR reports that Michael Bisping has joined the cast of Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, the long-awaited action sequel starring Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson Jr.

The outlet reports that the UFC champ will be reprising his role of Connor, who was seen at the end of the first movie. Den of Thieves 2: Pantera will find Big Nick (Butler) back on the hunt on the mean streets of Europe, closing in on Donnie (Jackson Jr.), who is embroiled in the dangerous world of diamond thieves and the infamous Panther mafia, as they plot a massive heist of the world’s biggest diamond exchange. Christian Gudegast has returned to write and direct Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, and production is currently underway.

In addition to Den of Thieves 2, Michael Bisping can be seen in xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, Triple Threat, Warrior, and Twin Peaks. He will also appear in the upcoming Red Sonja movie.

The original movie followed “the intersecting and often personally connected lives of an elite unit of the LA County Sheriff’s Dept. and the state’s most successful bank robbery crew as the outlaws plan a seemingly impossible heist on the Federal Reserve Bank of downtown Los Angeles.Den of Thieves grossed $80 million worldwide and received mixed reviews upon release but has since grown a sizable cult following. Gerard Butler has previously said that Den of Thieves sequel would be a “more glamorous journey” than the first film as well as “more fun [&] sexy.

We are tremendous fans of Gerard Butler, who we’ve worked with numerous times, and are so thrilled to be on board with him, Christian Gudegast, Producer Tucker Tooley and the amazing supporting cast,” said Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Briarcliff Entertainment. “Films like this make going to the theater fun, and we can’t wait to give moviegoers the chance to see it on the big screen.” The sequel doesn’t have an official release date yet, but Briarcliff has said that they are aiming for a nationwide release in Q4 of 2024.

Deadpool 3 set photos feature Ryan Reynolds in full costume

Deadpool 3 set photos feature Ryan Reynolds in full costume

Deadpool 3 set photos feature Ryan Reynolds in full costume, which seems to have been updated for his MCU debut.

Ryan Reynolds has been filming Deadpool 3 in the UK and the Daily Mirror has dropped several set photos which feature the actor in full costume. Deadpool’s suit seems more or less the same, but there are a few cosmetic differences, not to mention a far more vibrant red colouring.

Deadpool Updates has a comparison between the new and old costumes.

You’ll have to check out the other Deadpool 3 set photos on the Daily Mirror itself. The upcoming Deadpool sequel will see the return of Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Rob Delaney as Peter. Deadpool 3 will also star Emma Corrin, who is expected to be playing the villain, as well as Matthew Macfadyen in an undisclosed role.

Of course, the biggest addition to the cast is Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, who finally broke down after being pestered by Ryan Reynolds for so many years. Reynolds said that Deadpool 3 will present a new challenge for Jackman. “I think [Jackman] was excited and what we pitched him was enough of a divergence from the character that he knows and the character that he’s left behind,” Reynolds said, “that it gives him something completely new to play and something that he’s really excited to do.” Clearly, all that pestering paid off. “I mean, I never stopped,” Reynolds said. “I was just pestering him like a gnat over the last many years. I actually just think… I believe in timing … and I think he was ready.

Deadpool 3 was originally set to hit theaters on November 8, 2024, but Disney recently bumped the movie up to a May 3, 2024 release. As nearly every other movie on Disney’s slate was pushed back, sometimes by a year or more, it was interesting to see the Deadpool sequel move up.

What are your thoughts on the new costume featured in the Deadpool 3 set photos?

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One Review

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One Review

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One delivers the old-school thrills missing from most modern action movies.

PLOT: Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is back in a battle against “The Entity,” a state-of-the-art, self-aware AI that threatens to topple the world’s government. Battling an old foe (Esai Morales) for a key that The Entity wants, Hunt has to recruit his old team, plus a master pickpocket (Hayley Atwell) for his most impossible mission yet.

REVIEW: One has to give Tom Cruise and his director Christopher McQuarrie credit. The two consistently push the envelope, and in each other, the two have found kindred spirits bent on delivering the type of old-school thrills you don’t see anymore. After watching the latest Indiana Jones lose its soul in a sea of CGI and the various superhero movies, it’s a treat to see Cruise and McQuarrie doing real, cutting-edge practical action with some legitimate stakes. When people die, they stay dead, and as invincible as Cruise’s Ethan Hunt may seem, there are limits to his prowess. Unlike other action stars, he doesn’t always come out ahead in fights. His vulnerability is the key to his likability.

What’s always made Ethan Hunt such a likable hero is his moral code, along with the fact that, as always, his life is secondary to those he loves – his friends – even if inevitably being associated with him puts them in danger. Cruise’s Hunt is more world-weary this time as if the weight of thirty years of service is finally weighing on him. The movie kicks off when he’s sent to intercept a deal involving Rebecca Ferguson’s Ilsa Faust, who’s seemingly gone rogue. Once again, though, he’s not being told all he needs to know by his boss, Kittridge (Henry Czerny – in a nice full circle moment for the franchise), and he’ll have to use his own moral code to take down the movie’s big bad.

What’s interesting is how Dead Reckoning Part One doesn’t hesitate to go full sci-fi, with Hunt battling a rogue AI called “The Entity,” which has enlisted a baddie so evil in Esai Morales’s Gabriel that Faust calls him “a dark messiah, death is his gift to the world.” If it sounds a bit overwrought, well, go with it. The movie, which is somewhat more sombre than previous instalments, seems to be building towards something of a climax for Hunt, even though, as Cruise has said, this isn’t necessarily the end of the road for the character.

What the movies have always been known for are the action scenes, and there are some spectacular ones here, including a frantic car chase through Rome that puts a similar one in Fast X to shame. The climactic train sequence, which involves Cruise’s motorcycle jump, is one for the ages. It climaxes in a fight on top of a train which seems to be a direct reference to the ending of the first Mission: Impossible, only done practically and on a grander scale. The stuntwork, much of it done by Cruise himself, is jaw-dropping, especially at the very end, which I won’t spoil here.

Cruise is pitch-perfect as Hunt, and his supporting cast is once again top-notch. Rebecca Ferguson’s Isla Faust deserves her own spin-off, with her one of the best action heroines out there. All of Cruise’s leading ladies are excellent here, with Hayley Atwell getting the movie’s second leading role as the pickpocket who becomes embroiled in Hunt’s mission and winds up being his foil. Pom Klementieff is also really impressive as the nearly mute Paris, a bleached blonde assassin who chases Hunt around like he’s the Road Runner, only to have a deeper payoff than expected. Morales’s Gabriel is undercooked in that he’s built up to be pure evil and not much else, but it works for the film’s tone. Pegg and Rhames are having a ball as always, while Shea Wigham, sporting an excellent coif, is another agent sent after Hunt, with Greg Tarzan Davis as his partner, both of whom alternately chase and help Hunt as required by the plot. Plus, Vanessa Kirby returns as The White Widow, a beguiling arms dealer who, I noticed, never blinks.

Additionally, the movie has an incredible look, especially if you see it on IMAX. Fraser Taggart’s cinematography is impressive, seemingly paying homage to the kind of adventure movies they used to make in the sixties (like Where Eagles Dare and the early James Bonds), and the production design this time is remarkable. What’s cool is how tactile everything feels. You can tell CGI was used sparingly; if it was, it’s almost invisible. The score, by Lorne Balfe, is good as always, nicely complimenting the movie’s darker tone by occasionally taking on a more bittersweet, somber tone.

My only complaint is that “The Entity,” given what we know about AI now, is a bit quaint with it presented through this eye avatar as a singular being, like Skynet. Then again, a movie about an actual battle against AI would mostly take place with people on computers. Frankly, I prefer Tom Cruise jumping motorcycles off mountains onto a train.

As far as action movies go, you aren’t likely to see anything come out in the same league as this until Cruise and company return with Dead Reckoning Part Two. Like John Wick Chapter 4, it proves that the old ways are always better, with less CGI and more actual stunts.

GOBEL Receives Second Patent for Gratitude to Give

GOBEL Receives Second Patent for Gratitude to Give

GOBEL, the world's leading consulting and technology firm working exclusively for healthcare philanthropy, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a second patent from the U.S. government related to its innovative Gratitude to Give™ (G2G) predictive modeling technology. G2G is four to five times more likely to forecast who will give compared to traditional wealth-screening models.

"We have long believed that gratitude drives the decision to give and wealth drives how much someone gives. Last year's patent awarded by the U.S. government was a milestone for our company, but also for all our clients who have long pursued the next level of fundraising, the kind of revenue generation that G2G realizes," said Chad Gobel, founder and CEO. "It was the first step on this journey to formalize our breakthrough methodology and technology. This second patent is an enormous next step."

GOBEL developed G2G as the first AI and ML fundraising model that identifies signs of gratitude by analyzing affinity and experiential data rather than wealth data alone. The sophisticated Gratitude to Give technology helps healthcare clients like hospitals, hospices and academic research institutes raise more money by predicting and segmenting patient populations, identifying the best prospects for annual, planned and major gift prospects, and creating the highest ROI by pinpointing the best prospects. It provides direct visibility into a patient's unique experience and uses big data sets to determine likelihood to give. Results are presented in one easy-to-use platform that offers multiple views so users can identify the best prospects for high wealth and high gratitude.

The original award last July was a patent on generating gratitude scores, using a machine-learning model. The new patent covers more products using machine-learning models to identify gratitude.

"This next step in predictive modeling involves the use of more and current data in real time," said Chad Gobel. "As people's information changes, our models change to stay as current as possible. Effective fundraising in the healthcare — or any — industry relies on keeping pace with change. These models will better and more thoroughly refine the information we provide for clients about their current and potential donors."

POP Biotechnologies and EuBiologics’ EuCorVac-19 COVID-19 Vaccine Hits Target in Phase 3 Trial

POP Biotechnologies and EuBiologics’ EuCorVac-19 COVID-19 Vaccine Hits Target in Phase 3 Trial

EuCorVac-19

EuCorVac-19, a recombinant protein vaccine displaying the SARS-CoV-2 receptor-binding domain (RBD) antigen on the immunogenic liposomes

POP Biotechnologies (POP BIO), a Buffalo, NY-based biopharmaceutical startup, announces top line interim results of a Phase 3 clinical trial of EuCorVac-19, a COVID-19 vaccine candidate being developed by South Korean partner EuBiologics (KOSDAQ: 206650). EuCorVac-19 is a protein-based vaccine consisting of a vaccine antigen displayed on immunogenic nanoparticles, using POP BIO's spontaneous-nanoliposome antigen particle (SNAP) technology.

The phase 3 trial of EuCorVac-19 was conducted in the Philippines in approximately 2,600 adults (NCT05572879). EuCorVac-19 demonstrated superior antibody immunogenicity compared to a World Health Organization Emergency Use Authorized adenoviral vector vaccine, thereby meeting the primary endpoint of the phase 3 trial.

The formation of neutralizing antibodies, which prevent COVID-19 infection, was more than twice as high in EuCorVac-19 compared to the control vaccine. EuCorVac-19 exhibited a high serological response rate with neutralizing antibody titers increasing after vaccination. In particular, the neutralizing antibody titers and serum response rates in subjects aged over 65 exceeded those of the control vaccine. In immunogenicity analysis against the Omicron BA.5 strain, EuCorVac-19 induced more than twice the neutralizing antibody titer compared to the control vaccine.

EuCorVac-19's safety profile was further established in this phase 3 study. EuCorVac-19 showed a slightly lower incidence than the control vaccine of solicited adverse events and there was no difference between EuCorVac-19 and the control vaccine in the incidence of unsolicited adverse events.

These results further validate the strength and synergy of POP BIO's SNAP and EuBiologics' EuIMT platform technologies used in the EuCorVac-19 vaccine. Further development of booster vaccines, new strain vaccines, and combination vaccines for COVID-19 will be significantly more straightforward in the future.

"Achieving the completion of this Phase III trial is an enormous milestone for our technologies. These results provide validation towards not only solving this unprecedented global crisis but also provides invaluable support towards our platform's development, further enabling the creation of new vaccines with tremendous potential to alleviate suffering worldwide," said POP BIO co-founder Jonathan Smyth.

EuCorVac-19 was already shown to be safe and immunogenic in a Phase I/II clinical trial, the results of which were announced in December 2021. The Philippine Phase 3 trial, conducted since third quarter of 2022, were supported by a grant of the Korea Health Technology R&D Project through the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI), funded by the ministry of Health & Welfare, Republic of Korea.

Based on the results of this clinical study, EuBiologics plans to apply for product approval in the Philippines shortly. Later this year, results will become available from a second independent Phase 3 clinical study being carried out in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

About POP Biotechnologies: POP Biotechnologies, Inc. is a privately held biotechnology company focused on the research and development of novel therapeutics and vaccines employing their proprietary porphyrin-phospholipid (PoP) liposome technologies. The PoP technology, exclusively licensed from the State University of New York Research Foundation (SUNY-RF), was developed by company co-founder Dr. Jonathan Lovell at his academic facilities at The State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY Buffalo). POP Biotechnologies is currently a resident of the SUNY Buffalo incubator at Baird Research Park.

About POP BIO's SNAP Technology: POP BIO's Spontaneous Nanoliposome Antigen Particleization (SNAP) technology enables the rapid development and manufacturing of highly immunogenic particle-based vaccines and immunotherapies directed against infectious disease and cancer through the use of a cobalt modified variant of the PoP technology (CoPoP). The SNAP technology enables the seamless generation of stable particle-formation and liposome-display of protein and peptide antigens resulting in substantial improvements in immune responses.

About EuBiologics: EuBiologics is a South Korean Biotechnology company that is advancing the EuCorVac-19 COVID-19 vaccine and other vaccine products. EuBiologics has two main animal-based bioreactors (1,000L) to produce recombinant protein antigens at Chuncheon Plant 1(C-Plant) and EcML(Monophosphoryl Lipid A) which is adjuvant at Chuncheon Plant 2(V-Plant). The total capacity of the COVID-19 vaccine is currently in the hundreds of millions of doses per year.

About EuBiologics' EuIMT Technology: EuBioloigcs' Immune Modulation Technology using genetically engineered Monophosphoryl Lipid A (MLA), called EcML that is a unique TLR4 agonist. EuBiologics has IP protection around EcML and various adjuvant systems including EcML. Eubiologics' EcML and POP BIO's SNAP technologies synergize to create ultrapotent next-generation vaccines.

The Men at Shoreline Recovery Center and Park Mental Health Learn Self-Care Techniques to Sustain Them Along Their Addiction Recovery Journey

0
The Men at Shoreline Recovery Center and Park Mental Health Learn Self-Care Techniques to Sustain Them Along Their Addiction Recovery Journey

Taking care of one's physical well-being is essential on the road to addiction recovery. For the men at Shoreline Recovery Center and Park Mental Health, self-care plays a crucial role. It's through the tailored guidance received from counselors, therapists and support groups that they become self-sustaining individuals.

"We believe that in order to heal and have therapy be the most effective, intentional self-care alongside addiction treatment is essential for recovery," said Mikayla Weathers, Program Director and LMFT at Park Mental Health. "This includes maintaining regular exercise, getting enough sleep, eating a balanced diet and avoiding substances that could trigger a relapse."

When it comes to addiction recovery, men are up against a host of obstacles. Beginning with their emotional well-being, they often face unfair expectations, such as suppressing feelings to remain strong in difficult circumstances.

"Most men have been taught through societal conditioning that having and showing emotions equates to weakness…" Weathers said. "This is why we start by acknowledging how they've been taught to deal with emotions in their childhood and how processing emotions was modeled to them, in order to help them build insight into why they may struggle with this."

Recovery from addiction is often an arduous journey with highs, lows and setbacks, so stress management is a significant aspect of addiction recovery. Regular self-reflection for example, is a tool that can help in understanding triggers, identifying patterns and setting meaningful goals. It's important that time is taken to assess progress, celebrate achievements and adjust things as necessary.

"In early recovery, clients struggle with self-compassion, positive self-talk and self-forgiveness due to the shame and guilt they carry because of their actions during addiction and/or mental health crisis. We normalize each client's emotions and encourage them to shift old patterns of holding onto them to talking about them in peer groups and therapy sessions instead," Weathers said. Often times they haven't been taught how to put their experience into words, which is why psychoeducation is used to teach them about feelings.

Setting realistic short and long-term goals can provide a sense of purpose and direction. Shoreline Recovery Center and Park Mental Health have curriculum groups and therapy sessions to encourage open communication, self-reflection and weekly goal setting.

In addition to self-care and reflection, cultivating healthy relationships and cutting the cord on toxic ones is vital during addiction recovery, which is why staff hold clients accountable to falling back into old patterns and encourage them to make different decisions when it comes to the people they surround themselves with. These men need to have people in their lives who understand and respect their journey.

"Recovery is affected and influenced by every dimension of life, which includes personal and community relationships. Developing healthy relationships, social skills, habits and effective communication skills are an important part of maintaining long-term stability," Weathers said.
