International Confederation of Midwives to Host Thousands of Delegates at Its 33rd Triennial Congress in Bali

ICM Congress \u2014 Day 1

Indonesian Midwives participate in the 33rd ICM Triennial Council meeting in Bali.

The International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) is excited to announce that the 33rd ICM Triennial Congress will take place in Bali from 11-14 June 2023. The event will bring together over 2,300 midwives, maternal health advocates, and healthcare professionals from around the world to share knowledge and best practices and to celebrate the crucial role of midwives in improving maternal and newborn health.

According to a recent study by the World Health Organization (WHO), one woman dies every two minutes from pregnancy or childbirth-related complications globally. This alarming statistic highlights the urgent need to invest in maternal healthcare and the critical role of midwives in ensuring safe and healthy childbirth, but also in providing essential reproductive health services.

"The 33rd Triennial Congress is a unique opportunity to bring together midwives from all over the world to collaborate and share evidence-based practices and experiences," said Dr. Franka Cadée, President of the ICM. "We are delighted to be able to bring everyone together again after the pandemic, and we hope to raise awareness of the critical role of midwives in the reproductive health of women, gender-diverse people, and families globally."

The Congress will feature plenary sessions, interactive workshops, and poster presentations covering a wide range of topics related to midwifery, including maternal and newborn health, family planning, and midwifery education and regulation. Participants will have the opportunity to network with colleagues from around the world and share their knowledge and experiences. It will also provide a platform for midwives to advocate for increased investment in the profession and to advance midwife-led education and integration into health systems worldwide.

"Together with all midwives in Indonesia, it is an honour to host this sharing and learning session, especially with the charm of the island of Bali, whose nature, culture, and beauty are nothing short of inspirational," said Emi Nurjasmi, President of the Indonesian Midwives Association and ICM Board Member representing Southeast Asia. "With delegates, speakers, and exhibitors from around the world, this Congress is designed not only to support the growth of the midwifery profession, but also to encourage midwives and women to come together, build relationships, grow ideas, and identify pathways for advancement."

Gender-Neutral Names Hit a Record High in 2022
Gender-neutral names have been slowly gaining ground since the 1960s, according to BeenVerified analysis.

BeenVerified

Gender-neutral names hit a record high last year, accounting for nearly 15% of all birth names. BeenVerified, a people search company, examined Social Security Administration records to discover the rising popularity in unisex names and the most popular gender-neutral names in 2022, with Logan taking the top spot.

For the purposes of this study, we defined unisex names as those in which at least 5% of names were given to an opposite gender—or one out of every 20 births. Here are the top 10 unisex names in 2022:

Rank Name 2022 Birth Count Female % Male %
1 Logan 8,420 10.0% 90.0%
2 Ezra 8,396 5.4% 94.6%
3 Avery 7,883 79.0% 21.0%
4 Dylan 7,215 7.2% 92.8%
5 Carter 6,875 8.0% 92.0%
6 Riley 6,475 75.5% 24.5%
7 Parker 6,243 38.5% 61.5%
8 Kai 5,699 6.2% 93.8%
9 Angel 5,658 10.5% 89.5%
10 Cameron 5,541 10.9% 89.1%

While gender-neutral names hit a high last year, it's a practice that's been growing for years. Since 1923, there are certain unisex names that parents continue to pick for their new bundles of joy.

Rank Name Birth Count Female % Male %
1 Kelly 553,230 85.5% 14.5%
2 Jordan 524,150 25.5% 74.5%
3 Terry 518,718 18.6% 81.4%
4 Taylor 437,436 74.8% 25.2%
5 Willie 431,957 19.4% 80.6%
6 Alexis 408,634 83.8% 16.2%
7 Jean 405,889 94.7% 5.3%
8 Logan 397,265 7.4% 92.6%
9 Leslie 358,823 74.5% 25.5%
10 Jamie 355,751 75.6% 24.4%

Unisex names were most popular in Louisiana (18.9% of 2022 birth names), followed by Mississippi (18.8%) Georgia (17.9%), Alabama (17.5%), then Arkansas, Oklahoma and Tennessee (17.0% each).

States with the lowest percentage of births with gender-neutral names in 2022 were Rhode Island (10.6%), followed by New Mexico and Wyoming (10.7% each), New Jersey (10.8%) and Vermont (11.4%).

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles appears to be based on Resident Evil Zero

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles appears to be based on Resident Evil Zero

The new Resident Evil movie that’s in development, Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, appears to be based on Resident Evil Zero

Last week, we heard that the 2021 live-action feature Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City may be getting a follow-up of sorts, as a project called Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles is in the works, coming from the same company that was behind Welcome to Raccoon City (Raccoon HG Film Productions) and set to film in the same area: Greater Sudbury, a city in Ontario, Canada. Now the Resident Evil Wiki team has given us further information that indicates the new film will be based on the 2002 video game Resident Evil Zero!

A Production Weekly listing offers the following SPOILER-filled synopsis for Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles: STARS operative Rebecca Chambers and former Marine Billy Coen venture through a train that eventually takes them into a derelict training facility. Once within the facility, they discover they are being stalked by James Marcus, a co-founder of the Umbrella Corporation and creator of the T-Virus, who has managed to resurrect himself with the aid of leech test subjects. After a confrontation, Marcus mutates into a monstrosity, but is subdued by the duo. Chambers and Coen escape as the facility self-destructs.

I haven’t played Resident Evil Zero, but it seems like that’s exactly how the game plays out. Resident Evil Wiki also shared a tweet from someone who has spoken to a crew member and confirmed that Rebecca Chambers is the lead character.

Rebecca Chambers is a popular character among Resident Evil fans and has even been included in the horror multiplayer game Dead by Daylight, but she has never been brought to the screen in a live-action movie before.

As mentioned, the Production Weekly listing says Paul W.S. Anderson has a producing credit on Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, along with Jeremy Bolt, Victor Hadida, Robert Kulzer, Martin Moszkowicz, Alex Zhang, and James Harris. They were all producers on Welcome to Raccoon City as well.

How does Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles sound to you? Are you interested in seeing a film based on Resident Evil Zero? Share your thoughts on this one by leaving a comment below.

Furiosa: Chris Hemsworth calls Mad Max prequel the best experience of his career

Chris Hemsworth calls Furiosa, the upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road prequel from George Miller, the best experience of his career.

Chris Hemsworth has tackled plenty of blockbusters throughout his career, including Star Trek, Thor, Men in Black: International, Ghostbusters, and more, but we haven’t seen the project he’s the most proud of. Chris Hemsworth told GQ that Furiosa, the upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road prequel, has been the best experience of his career.

I came into that film exhausted. I thought, ‘How am I going to get through this?’” Chris Hemsworth said. “Week one of rehearsals with [Miller], all of a sudden it was this reigniting of my creative energy.” The actor said the production of Furiosa was “by far the best experience of my career, and something I feel the most proud of. It made me think, the work isn’t what’s exhausting it’s what kind of work it is, and how invested I am in it and if it is challenging in the right way.” Hemsworth called director George Miller “masterful” and added, “I’m on the hunt for more George Millers. Or more of George Miller. If he’ll have me.

Chris Hemsworth plays biker warlord Dementus in Furiosa, and George Miller was full of praise for the actor. “Always prepared, no matter how difficult the scene, always working really hard,” Miller said. “There’s no distractions, very focused. He’ll do everything that is needed to get the film made as well as it possibly can. He’ll work with other actors, even in smaller parts, and bond with them. If there’s any issues, and productions can sometimes be fraught, he’s the one who by example is able to calm thing. We all know people, on both sides of the camera, who seem to unravel the more power and fame they get, and Chris is the antithesis of that.” Considering how difficult the production of Mad Mad: Fury Road was, with rumblings of frequent clashes between Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron on set, it’s nice to know that the prequel went a little smoother.

As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus,” reads the Furiosa synopsis. “Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by the Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.Furiosa is expected to hit theaters on May 24, 2024.

Perry Mason canceled after two seasons by HBO

Perry Mason canceled after two seasons by HBO

Perry Mason has been canceled after two seasons as HBO has decided not to move forward with another season of the legal drama.

Deadline reports that HBO has canceled Perry Mason after just two seasons, which is sure to upset fans as the recent season finale ended on something of a cliffhanger.

The drama series starred Matthew Rhys as Perry Mason, the iconic criminal defence lawyer. “We are tremendously grateful for the remarkable work of Matthew Rhys and the unrivaled cast and crew of Perry Mason for their reimagining of such a treasured and storied franchise,” HBO said in a statement. “While we won’t be moving forward with another season of the series, we are excited to continue working with the brilliant creatives at Team Downey on future projects.

Perry Mason was executive produced by Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey through their Team Downey banner. Just prior to the second season finale, Downey Jr. had discussed bringing the series back for a third season. “I mean wouldn’t that be nice?,” Downey Jr. said. “I think that Matthew and all the other people populating it in front of the screen, all our people behind the scenes, have built this incredible world that I know we could continue to tell really interesting stories about. We would be lying if we didn’t say we’ve certainly been talking to Michael a ton about a third season, but our fate rests in the hands of others.” Unfortunately, it seems that a third season just wasn’t in the cards. Given its period setting, the project wasn’t exactly cheap to produce and the viewership just wasn’t there to justify its return.

The second season of Perry Mason begins months after the Dodson case from the first season has ended as the scion of a powerful oil family is brutally murdered. “When the DA goes to the city’s Hoovervilles to pinpoint the most obvious of suspects, Perry, Della, and Paul find themselves at the center of a case that will uncover far-reaching conspiracies and force them to reckon with what it truly means to be guilty,” read the official synopsis.

In addition to Matthew Rhys as Perry Mason, the second season of the HBO series starred Juliet Rylance, Chris Chalk, Shea Whigham, Eric Lange, Justin Kirk, Diarra Kilpatrick, Katherine Waterston, Hope Davis, Fabrizio Guido, Peter Mendoza, Mark O’Brien, Paul Raci, Jen Tullock, Jon Chaffin, Onahoua Rodriguez, Jee Young Han, Sean Astin, Tommy Dewey, and Wallace Langham. You can check out a review of the second, and now final, season of the series from our own Alex Maidy right here.

Christopher Nolan picks his favorite seat at the movies

Christopher Nolan picks his favorite seat at the movies

We all have our favorite seat at the movie theater, but Christopher Nolan says it depends on how the film is presented.

Christopher Nolan is one of the most vocal and intelligent proponents of the theater-going experience. From challenging the industry’s use of streaming services to encouraging the use and preservation of film stock to urging Congress to save movie theaters amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Nolan has continued to give insight on and a voice to the art of not just cinema but the cinemas. So you better believe Christopher Nolan has a favorite seat when he goes to the movie theater!

But it’s not just the same seat every time he goes to the movies, as for Christopher Nolan, it depends on how the film is being presented, telling the Associated Press, “When I’m in a theater that’s Cinemascope ratio, I like to be right near the front, middle of the third row…When I’m in a stadium, IMAX 1.43:1, then I actually like to be a little behind the center line right up at the middle. So, a little further back.” No word yet on what Nolan’s favorite movie candy is…but we’re thinking Nerds Rope.

As such, Christopher Nolan would be watching his next movie, Oppenheimer – which was filmed using IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format film – in the latter setup. Oppenheimer is indeed big, and we’re not just talking about the three-hour runtime (Nolan’s longest, edging out Interstellar): the prints weigh around 600 pounds and hold more than 11 miles of film.

Adding to the experience he hopes people get from seeing the movie when it’s released on July 21st, Christopher Nolan said, “You rarely get the chance to really talk to moviegoers directly about why you love a particular format and why if they can find an IMAX screen to see the film on that’s great…We put a lot of effort into shooting the film in a way that we can get it out on these large format screens. It really is just a great way of giving people an experience that they can’t possibly get in the home.”

What is your favorite seat at the movie theater? How does this enhance your experience? Let us know in the comments section below!

Created by THINK450Game Change Game, a poignant documentary about the extraordinary 2020 NBA season, which carried on in the face of COVID and a social justice reckoning, is out today for digital release on STARZ, the streaming network dedicated to narratives by, about and for underrepresented audiences.

The monumental film, which premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival for its theatrical release, is directed by Spike Jordan and Maxime Quoilin with the bi-coastal creative production studio Good Company and created by veteran media leader Christina Norman for THINK450, the partnership and innovation engine of The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA)

"The creation of this film came from our core mission as an organization to amplify the players and their collective voices," said Que Gaskins, President of THINK450. "As we saw our players come together to stand up for change, we knew we had the unique opportunity to document this powerful moment in time from the players' perspective. Game Change Game is a remarkable film, and we are excited to share it with more viewers this month through our partnership with STARZ."

The film affords viewers privileged access to "The NBA Bubble," the infamous bio-secure hub where the elite athletes carried out the 2020 basketball season during the pandemic shutdown. As it highlights their struggle with unforeseen sacrifice, loss, and their own morality amidst disturbing current events of the time, the documentary displays the players' bonds of fierce brotherhood while they use their platform to demand change.

"Game Change Game really captures all of the emotions that we were experiencing as players and as Black men during that very intense and pivotal time in our society," said CJ McCollum, NBPA President and one of the players featured in the film. "With so many different player perspectives in the film, it is truly a unique expression of our collective experience, and I am honored to be a part of it."

Threading together interviews with more than 40 notable stakeholders, directors Quoilin and Jordan highlight the series of events that led to the creation of the "bubble." They blatantly expose viewers to the waves of police brutality that took place during the same era and how many NBA players decided to take a stand and speak out against injustice - despite the pervasive cultural narrative that sports and athletes are, and should remain, apolitical. The interviewees include athletes like NBPA President CJ McCollum, Chris Paul, Jaylen Brown, as well as leading activists and artists.

Without the use of a narrator, the co-directors expertly craft a fluid storyline, by weaving, amongst the interviews, vital contextual footage from both the archives and the players themselves, including special family moments.

"The meaning of the film shifted as we lived through one cataclysmic event after another. Shot in real-time, it became a deep race conversation, on top of the already deep COVID conversation," said co-director Quoilin. "Ultimately, we hope that the documentary continues to spur an ongoing dialogue about racism and policing in the US and how we can each do our part to make equity a reality for everyone."

Good Company's impeccable reputation for culturally-relevant work and Quoilin and Jordan's bold visual storytelling style made them the perfect fit for a non-traditional sports documentary. Philadelphia native Jordan is known for his music videos like Nas' "Ultra Black" and Future & Juice WRLD's "WRLD on Drugs," while Belgium-born Quoilin is known for his work on Beyonce's Formation World Tour and the fiery Kanye West video, "Come to Life."

When tapped by THINK450, it was an easy yes for the filmmakers, who are both passionate basketball fans and frequent collaborators with uncanny creative sympatico. Together, the pair have previously collaborated on a variety of music videos, including Gunna's "Dollaz On My Head" and Meek Mill's "Believe."

"Max and I have this chemistry; we're on the same wavelength. During the shooting, I would turn to say something, and it was like Max already knew what I was going to say. We had the same intuition about what was needed on-screen," said Jordan.

One of the first shoots to go remote during the pandemic, Game Change Game was filmed in two phases. At first, the co-directors utilized a robust remote filming technology inspired by Errol Morris's Interrotron, which allowed up-close, face-to-face interviews with the players living in the bubble. Once the season ended and COVID restrictions eased to some extent, the directors filmed additional in-person interviews and incorporated a wealth of contextual footage.

Good Company had a hand in every aspect of the film's production. Despite unimaginable flux and emotion, they tirelessly documented the uncommon NBA season as well as spent an additional year honing the story's look and feel in post-production.

"After living through that intense, paradigm-shifting time, and now, coming out the other side of it with this release feels almost cathartic. We could've never expected the journey the world would go through, but it was all hands on deck for this project from the get-go," commented Producer Jonathan Lia, Good Company's Co-Founder. "I hope this beautiful portrait of the NBA's journey will remind viewers of the power of our collective voices and the strength and healing that can be found when we lean on each other."

The documentary can be found on STARZ across all platforms, including in their Juneteenth programming and throughout the month on STARZ linear channels.

Credello: New Legislation on Medical Bill Transparency Has Passed. What Does This Mean?

Credello: New Legislation on Medical Bill Transparency Has Passed. What Does This Mean?

Credello: New legislation on medical bill transparency has passed in Texas. Hospitals are now required to provide itemized receipts to patients before sending their bills to collections. This is a positive development for Americans burdened by unexpected health expenses.

"Going door to door visiting with voters I'd hear stories about medical bills and debt, often unexplained and over-billed charges, that burdened families," State Rep. Caroline Harris, R-Round Rock, who worked with Sen. Bryan Hughes, (R-Mineola) to get the legislation passed, told KXAN

According to KXAN, a Central Texas hospital recently sued hundreds of patients over unpaid medical bills, several of whom received vague invoices without itemized receipts before being served with a lawsuit. With this new law, a patient would be able to get clarity around hospital charges and contest some of them if necessary. It would also prevent patients from being taken advantage of.

Medical debt in the U.S.

Medical debt is a significant issue in the U.S., with millions of Americans facing financial challenges due to health care expenses. This is even worse for uninsured and underinsured people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2021, approximately 8.3% of the population, or about 27.2 million people, did not have health insurance coverage. Many Americans are also considered underinsured, meaning they have health insurance but still face high out-of-pocket costs and limited coverage.

Medical bills are a leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the United States. According to a study published in the American Journal of Public Health, in 2019, 66.5% of all bankruptcies were related to medical issues.

Medical debt is often pursued by collection agencies, which can resort to aggressive tactics to collect outstanding payments, further adding to individuals' financial burden and stress.

Dealing with medical debt

Dealing with medical debt can be challenging, but there are steps you can take to manage the situation. First, review all your medical bills and ensure they are accurate. Mistakes are not uncommon, and you have the right to dispute any errors or questionable charges. Contact the healthcare provider or billing department to clarify any concerns.

Familiarize yourself with the details of your health insurance policy, including coverage limits, deductibles, co-pays, and any out-of-pocket expenses. Understanding what your insurance covers can help you plan and budget accordingly. You can even get a loan for medical emergencies to bridge gaps.

If you're facing difficulty paying your medical bills, it's important to communicate with the healthcare providers involved. They may be able to provide options such as setting up a payment plan or negotiating a reduced amount based on your financial situation. Many providers have financial assistance programs for individuals with low-income or uninsured patients. If you're unable to work because of your health situation, look into different types of disability loans to alleviate your financial burden.

Finally, familiarize yourself with consumer protection laws in your area. Certain regulations may provide rights and protections regarding medical debt, including limitations on collection actions or statutes of limitations.

Bottom line

The new Texas legislation on medical bill transparency is a step in the right direction to prevent Americans from financial hardship in the event of a health emergency. If you find yourself struggling with medical debt, there are steps you can take - including reviewing your medical bills and asking for itemized receipts.

Credello: What is the Lowest Credit Score You Can Have?

0
Credello: What is the Lowest Credit Score You Can Have?

Credello: Your credit score plays a vital role in your financial life. It affects your ability to secure loans, rent an apartment, and even get a job. The higher your credit score, the better your chances of accessing favorable financial opportunities. On the other hand, a low credit score can hinder your progress and limit your options. But have you ever wondered what the lowest credit score you can have is?

Credit scores typically range from 300 to 850, with higher scores indicating better creditworthiness. While the specific credit score thresholds can vary between credit bureaus and lenders, it's generally agreed that a score below 600 is considered low. This range often signifies a higher risk to potential creditors, making it more challenging to secure loans or obtain favorable interest rates.

If you find yourself with a low credit score, don't fret. There are steps you can take to increase your credit score immediately and improve your financial standing.

Here are a few strategies to consider

Review your credit reports

Start by obtaining free copies of your credit reports from the major credit bureaus—Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. Check them thoroughly for any errors or discrepancies that could be negatively impacting your credit score. If you find any inaccuracies, dispute them with the respective credit bureaus to have them corrected.

Make timely payments

Payment history is a crucial factor in determining your credit score. Consistently paying your bills on time demonstrates responsible financial behavior and can help boost your creditworthiness. Set up reminders or automatic payments to ensure you never miss a due date.

Reduce credit utilization

Credit utilization refers to the amount of credit you're currently using compared to your overall available credit limit. Aim to keep your credit utilization below 30% to maintain a healthy credit score. Paying down existing balances and avoiding maxing out your credit cards can positively impact your score.

Diversify your credit mix

While having a credit card can be beneficial for building credit, it's not the only way. If you prefer to build credit without a credit card, consider alternative options such as installment loans or secured credit cards. By responsibly managing different types of credit, you can demonstrate your ability to handle various financial obligations.

Avoid opening new accounts unnecessarily

Opening multiple new accounts within a short period can raise red flags and potentially lower your credit score. Be strategic when applying for credit and only do so when necessary. Each new account creates a hard inquiry on your credit report, which can temporarily impact your score.

Practice patience

Building or repairing credit takes time. There is no magical solution to increase your credit score overnight. Be consistent with your responsible financial habits, and over time, you will see improvements in your creditworthiness.

It's worth noting that the specific impact of each action on your credit score may vary depending on your individual circumstances. Additionally, credit scoring models can differ between lenders and credit bureaus. However, the strategies mentioned above generally contribute to positive credit behavior and can help you improve your credit score.

Bottom Line
