FCS and Cameron-Cole Share PFAS Expertise at AEP CA State Conference
Environmental firms team up to discuss pending regulations, remediation strategies, risk management, and more.

Environmental experts from Cameron-Cole and FirstCarbon Solutions (FCS), both ADEC Innovations companies, will share first-hand experience regarding per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) at the Association of Environmental Professionals (AEP) CA State Conference April 23-26 in Lake Tahoe, CA.

PFAS—often called "forever chemicals" due to how slowly they break down over time—are increasingly found in the air, soil, and water. The most recent studies on human health effects have led the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to propose PFAS standards for drinking water that are especially stringent at the parts per trillion level.

Cameron-Cole and FCS's panel discussion, PFAS: How to Navigate this 21st Century Challenge, will be held Tuesday, April 25 and will discuss the history and future of PFAS, including new regulatory standards and associated liability under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA). Additionally, panelists will discuss the risk management processes, remediation strategies, and potential funding sources to support organizations facing PFAS risk and regulatory challenges.

"With the latest EPA ruling, regulators will soon require greater PFAS testing frequency in drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, soil, and groundwater sites," says Liza Debies, FCS Environmental Services Project Manager and panel moderator. "It's critical to understand this rapidly evolving landscape, and this panel will provide resources intended to help our audience to make better-informed decisions."

Joining Debies on the panel will be Mike Stephenson, Principal Scientist and Western Regional Manager for Cameron-Cole; Rob Fagerness, Senior Engineer with FCS; and Brian Myller, President and Chief Hydrogeologist of ADEC Innovations Professional Services.

Jaws 2: Lost scene discovered on Brazilian VHS

Jaws 2: Lost scene discovered on Brazilian VHS

A lost scene from Jaws 2 has been discovered on a Brazilian VHS! The scene shows the recovery of the ill-fated divers’ underwater camera

2023 marks the 45th anniversary of the release of Jaws 2 (watch it HERE), the most well-regarded of the Jaws sequels. So it seems quite appropriate that a cool Jaws 2 discovery had been made this year: The Daily Jaws has found a long-lost scene from the film, and the only known footage of this scene comes from a Brazilian VHS! This leads me to believe that the scene was probably always included in the Brazilian home video release of Jaws 2, but that’s not completely clear from the report on The Daily Jaws.

What we do know is that Jaws 2 begins with a pair of divers being attacked by a shark while checking out the sunken wreckage of the Orca boat from the first movie. Later in the film, Deputy Hendricks (Jeffrey Kramer) is shown to have retrieved the underwater camera that was dropped by the divers. In this lost footage, we actually get to see the camera being located and being brought up from the bottom of the ocean. You can watch this deleted (but apparently not deleted in Brazil) scene in the embed at the bottom of this article, where it’s presented with both Portuguese dubbing and with the dialogue removed.

Directed by Jeannot Szwarc from a screenplay written by Carl Gottlieb and Howard Sackler, Jaws 2 has the following synopsis: It’s been four years since that marauding great white shark terrorized the small summer resort of Amity; but the shark that Police Chief Brody destroyed wasn’t the only one in the ocean! The same heart-stopping suspense and gripping adventure that enthralled movie audiences throughout the world in Jaws returns in this worthy sequel to that film classic.

The film stars Roy Scheider, Lorraine Gary, Murray Hamilton, Joseph Mascolo, Jeffrey Kramer, Collin Wilcox, Ann Dusenberry, Mark Gruner, Susan French, Barry Coe, Gary Springer, Donna Wilkes, Gary Dubin, John Dukakis, G. Thomas Dunlop, David Elliott, Marc Gilpin, Keith Gordon, Cynthia Grover, Ben Marley, Martha Swatek, Billy Van Zandt, Gigi Vorgan, Fritzi Jane Courtney, Al Wilde, Cyprian R. Dube, Jerry M. Baxter, Jean Coulter, Christine Freeman, Herb Muller, David Owsley, and Susan Owsley McMillan.

Mason Blomberg and Jane Goodall

Red Carpet World Premiere of JANE on Apple TV+

11-year-old environmentalist Mason Blomberg, star of the Apple TV+ series JANE, has received the invitation of a lifetime. Mason has been personally chosen by world renowned environmentalist Jane Goodall to be an ambassador for the Jane Goodall Institute's Roots & Shoots Program.

Mason Blomberg is a born conservationist. Since he was very young, he has looked up to Dr. Jane Goodall, and at the age of seven, he became a vegetarian himself because he "didn't want to be the reason animals die." A talented actor as well, it was no surprise when he was offered a starring role in the Jane Goodall inspired series JANE now streaming on Apple TV+ just in time for Earth Day.

"I really care about the environment and saving animals, so to be part of a show that is sharing this message was a dream come true. Jane Goodall has always been an idol of mine so being on this show not only allowed me to do my favorite thing, which is acting, but also share a message I believe in - what more could a kid ask for?"

On the series JANE, two best friends, Jane and David (Blomberg) set out on imaginative adventures to help protect wild animals all around the world. It was a dream come true for Mason Blomberg who was able to travel to amazing places while learning firsthand about the importance of conservation and protection for the Earth.

The Jane Goodall Institute was founded in 1977 to ensure that her life's work and vision will "continue to mobilize the collective power of individual action to save the natural world we all share". In 1991, The Roots & Shoots Program was created for preschool to university age participants to "identify the problems in their communities while becoming the compassionate citizens our planet needs".

Through the series and his ambassadorship, Mason will be working and interacting with children from around the world to spread the message of Dr. Jane Goodall: "Only if we understand, will we care. Only if we care, will we help. Only if we help, can they be saved."

Star Wars: Kathleen Kennedy gives new details on the upcoming sequel involving Rey Skywalker

Star Wars: Kathleen Kennedy gives new details on the upcoming sequel involving Rey Skywalker

With Daisy Ridley returning to the galaxy far, far away, Kathleen Kennedy gives slightly more insight on the setting of the upcoming films.

This year’s Star Wars Celebration brought forth a bevy of announcements. From the unveiling of the newest Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny trailer to the teases of upcoming shows like the new season of Andor and the live-action Ahsoka series, Lucasfilm is showing fans that there is a bright future for the Star Wars brand. One of the continually developing projects was the announcement of a new chapter in Star Wars features that was originally to be written by Damon Lindelof and directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Lindelof would eventually part from the project, but it has been revealed that Obaid-Chinoy’s film involves the return of Daisy Ridley’s Rey.

The new untitled Rey films have also been revealed to be a new trilogy, with Obaid-Chinoy helming the first instalment. The only current details known are that it will involve the rebuilding of the Jedi Order and the New Republic. According to ComingSoon, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has spilled slightly more details about the upcoming films.

Kennedy expounds, “As we move into the future space — this story is about 15 years outside of The Rise of Skywalker — obviously we realized post-war, post–First Order rise of the New Jedi Order, we left Episode 9 with Rey making a commitment to Luke Skywalker that she would rebuild the Jedi order.”

She would also explain that although Star Wars is playing to its current strength of serial television, she would like to continue to explore the mainline stories in feature films. “And so here we are — we’re ready to do that. And it took a lot of discussion because, obviously, we’ve been developing stories in different spaces, and television has been a big focus of our attention right now. But there’s still so much interest in what happens after The Rise of Skywalker. So we’re excited to be doing that.”

Although these untitled films are new chapters (although not necessarily deemed official “Episodes”) of the continual Skywalker stories, there are still ideas for unrelated features whose fates are still floating around like Darth Vader’s TIE fighter after the first Death Star attack. Meanwhile, Taika Waititi is still slated to write and direct his own story in a galaxy far, far away.

The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster trailer: Frankenstein tale cures death this June

The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster trailer: Frankenstein tale cures death this June

A trailer has been released for The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster, which is set to receive a theatrical and digital release in June

Crypt TV, an entertainment company that was launched in 2015 by Jack Davis and Eli Roth, with Blumhouse Productions on board as an investor, has put together it first domestic feature film: a new take on Mary Shelley’s classic story Frankenstein called The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster. RLJE Films will be giving The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster a theatrical, VOD, and digital release on June 9th, and a trailer for the film is now online! You can check it out in the embed above.

The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster will also be streaming on Shudder and AllBlk at some point down the line.

Bomani J. Story wrote and directed the film, crafting a story about teenage anti-hero, Vicaria, who is on a desperate quest to cure death. With brilliant intelligence and a willingness to lose it all, Vicaria is able to resurrect the corpse of her recently slain brother, but unknowingly creates an unstoppable monster hungry for revenge.

Laya DeLeon Hayes of The Equalizer plays the 17-year-old Vicaria, with Denzel Whitaker of Black Panther co-starring as a character named Kango. Chad L. Coleman of The Walking Dead is also in the cast.

Story, who made his feature debut with this film, produced The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster with Crypt TV’s Jack Davis and Darren Brandl. Jeremy Elliott and Jasmine Johnson executive produced. Story had this to say about the film: “Growing up, I loved watching monster movies with my older sister. We rarely, if ever, saw ones that tackled issues that were important to us, with people who looked like us.  It has been a dream of mine to bring an adaptation of Frankenstein to film through the black lens with a lead character as smart as my sister. Crypt has been a champion of this story since day one, but it finally clicked together when Laya came to play Vicaria. What an amazing team.

What did you think of The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster trailer? Let us know by leaving a comment below. The movie looks pretty cool to me, so I will definitely be watching it.
