Owen Wilson’s Carl Nargle is the epitomy of peace in a new Paint poster from Brit McAdams’ new comedy about a public access painter.
I don’t know if anything is more soothing than Owen Wilson smiling while sporting a mighty blonde afro. With light twinkling in his eyes, Wilson stares into the distance, surrounded by happy little trees for IFC Films‘ new Paint poster. It’s moments like this when I’m thankful Wilson is experiencing a resurgence in cinema. Between starring in Marvel’s Loki and Disney’s Haunted Mansion and becoming powered up for the underrated Secret Headquartersfamily film, Wilson is in a good place.
Paint stars Owen Wilson as Vermont’s #1 public television painter, Carl Nargle, for Brit McAdams’ latest project, and Bob Ross fans are salivating.
In Paint, Wilson’s Nargle is convinced he has it all: a signature perm, custom van, and fans hanging on his every stroke. Yup! Nargle is on top of the world until a younger, better artist steals everything (and everyone) Carl loves.
McAdams directs from the 2010 Black List screenplay he wrote, with Michaela Watkins (Werewolves Within, Sword of Trust, CBS’ The Unicorn), Wendi McLendon-Covey (Bridesmaids, ABC’s The Goldbergs), Ciara Renée (Hawkgirl from CW’s Arrowverse), Lusia Stuss (Search Party, 50 First Dates), Stephen Root (Office Space, O Brother, Where Art Thou?) and newcomer Lucy Freyer set to star.
Wilson’s Nargle strikes a classic pose in the new Paint poster akin to portraits you’d take at Sears department stores in the ’80s. Looking whistful and optimistic, Nargle revels in the natural splendor of the scene he’s painted. The Paint poster sends dopamine to my tired Monday brain, and I am so thankful. I’d also be grateful for another cup of coffee.
You can check out the new Paint poster below:
Arianna Bocco, President of IFC Films, said, “We’re thrilled to finally work with the boundless and versatile talent of Owen Wilson, as he effortlessly brings Carl Nargle’s character to life from a savvy script and direction by Brit McAdams. Paint has all the makings of a quotable comedic masterpiece, and we hope audiences of all ages are ready for a lot of laughs and a lot of heart.”
“In every step of making the film, we’ve fought to team up with talented collaborators who are also good people. From our first conversation, IFC felt like the perfect home for Paint, not only because of how much they love the film and how respected they are in the industry, but also because of who they are as individuals. We’re all beyond excited to have them add their signature to this picture,” McAdams added.
Growing up with Bob Ross on public access, Paint has the potential to take a humble artist’s personality to new heights with lots of oddball gags and a strange support cast. Let’s go!
THE COVID-19 DETECTION FOUNDATION (dba VIRUFY) COVID-19 SCREENING THROUGH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE / MACHINE LEARNING TECHNOLOGY IS THE NEWEST MEMBER OF BARDA'S DIVISION OF RESEARCH, INNOVATION, AND VENTURES (DRIVe) MEDICAL COUNTERMEASURES PORTFOLIO
SAN FRANCISCO, March 8, 2023 (Newswire.com)

The COVID-19 Detection Foundation (dba Virufy), a 501(c)(3) non-profit research organization (https://virufy.org) developing a smartphone app for rapid COVID-19 screening through artificial intelligence (AI) / machine learning (ML) technology, today announced that it has been awarded a contract from the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), part of the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR), within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), a U.S. government agency.
This project aims to research and develop COVID-19 screening through AI / ML Technology. Virufy's patented and patent-pending solution gathers a patient's cough/speech data and then, using AI / ML algorithm, rapidly analyzes that data against known COVID-19 Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-positive, and Covid-19 PCR-negative cough datasets to indicate potential active COVID-19 infection. PCR testing is universally acknowledged as the gold standard in molecular diagnostics and COVID-19 testing.
This Virufy project aims to empower individuals, clinicians, employers, and governments with early, actionable COVID-19 information, to provide cost-effective, faster results for capturing and predicting health events and a reduction in overburdening scarce healthcare resources so that timely responses and medical interventions can be better deployed.
While Virufy has obtained a contract with BARDA, the limited funds are contractually restricted to contract deliverables and data collection, and we remain a 501(c)(3) entity principally staffed by volunteers and pro bono vendors.
"We are profoundly appreciative of the hundreds of volunteers and dozens of pro-bono firms that have selflessly donated their time, creativity, expertise, and compassion in support of our Mission of public good, and for BARDA's / DRIVe's generous support to fund the advancement of Virufy's Covid-19 screening through AI / ML technology," said Virufy CEO, Amil Khanzada. This project has been funded in part with Federal funds from HHS/ASPR and BARDA, under Contract No. 75A50122C00034.

Ultraísmo today announces its official launch with a new feature film documentary: "Cine de Oro: The Golden Age of Mexican Cinema." The film will explore a period in the history of the cinema of Mexico known as the golden age, during which Mexico's film industry emerged as one of the most productive and thriving outside Hollywood, attracting talent from Argentina, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Spain, Canada and Eastern Europe while exercising a decisive influence on the construction of national culture and identity in Mexico and Latin America on the world stage.
Ultraísmo is taking a unique approach to funding and producing high-quality entertainment media. By partnering with consumer brands as sponsors, the studio can bring important stories and perspectives to the screen while providing value to its corporate partners. Through this model, the new studio will create content that is both artistically and commercially successful, ensuring that culturally relevant perspectives have a prominent place in mainstream entertainment while challenging the standards of Hollywood, creating a new media landscape, and paving new paths for Hispanic talent.
"Ultraísmo is more than just a studio — it's a movement. We believe art and media can shape culture and influence how we see ourselves and the world. We are committed to using this platform to elevate our culture and tell stories that reflect our heritage properly," said filmmaker and founder Albert Sandoval. "We will contribute to the cultural exchanges in entertainment media and connect global audiences to authentic themes, characters and stories through high-value entertainment." Sandoval added, "Mexican cinema remains an integral part of our heritage as it continues defining culture and identity for modern Hispanic audiences. Our first film is a celebration of our dynasty in cinema, music and the arts in a new renaissance of Mexican talent which is breaking down geographic, social, economic and political barriers to contribute some of the most iconic cinematic work in Hollywood history."
"Cine de Oro: The Golden Age of Mexican Cinema" will explore the untold stories of the rise of an artistic movement that spoke directly to the people in a time when it was needed most, from the artists of the 1920s to the height of the golden age that began in the early 1930s through the late 1950s, as they defined their shared values through speculative mythology, answering what it meant to be Mexican in the wake of the Mexican Revolution and the Great Depression, creating works that would put Mexican culture on the world stage and inspire generations of artists and creators from every corner of the globe. Production has begun and the film is expected to be released in September 2024, marking three notable events: the 78th anniversary of the first Festival de Cannes, along with the first film to win the "Grand Prix" (now known as the Palme d'Or) — the acclaimed Mexican film "María Candelaria"; celebration of Mexican Independence Day; and the launch of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Caspar.AI has launched a new app for caregivers in collaboration with three clients: The Forest at Duke, NC; Heritage at Lyngblomsten, MN; and Ascension Living. The application gives caregivers behavioral data about their residents at their fingertips, making them exponentially more effective.
"We reduced nightly visits by staff with Caspar.AI. This increased our operating efficiency AND improved resident care, both at the same time," said Kelly Fieldhouse, Memory Care Director, United Methodist Communities at Bristol Glen.
This dual benefit is made possible with the new app from Caspar. In working with providers across the country, Caspar's app provides a real-time view of residents' behavioral data and generates an incident alert when they are in need of assistance. It lets staff do more each day, eliminating unnecessary visits and providing care to those who need it on time.
Automated Check-ins and Incident Alerting at Residential Independent Living
Traditionally, the check-in process is labor intensive - in many communities, it takes 4-5 hours walking the halls to check door tags.
With Caspar's ambient sensing, no resident or staff interaction is required to complete the check-in process. Check-in is complete when residents perform a daily routine like going to the kitchen. Using the Caspar app, staff completes check-ins in under 30 minutes, as they have to physically visit only a few apartments. This makes caregivers 10X more effective.
Health Insights for Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Health Centers
For a caregiver to know when and how a resident should be attended to is crucial to be effective at providing care. Caspar's app has a real-time dashboard that provides pertinent resident health information at caregivers' fingertips. It guides their interaction, whether it be about the amount of sleep, bathroom visits, or when a resident needs help due to restlessness or a fall.
Personalized care is key to promoting resident autonomy. Residents in need of support receive prompt attention as staff is notified quickly via the Caspar app. In the case of memory care residents, who are often unable to voice their needs, the Caspar app can "speak" to staff through data.
"Physicians & Caregivers create interventions based on data and revise care plans," Lee Ann Bailey-Clayton, Health Services Director, The Forest at Duke. Numerous data points collected by Caspar can be indicative of potential underlying health issues, i.e., frequent bathroom visits, insomnia, restlessness, etc. The observations provided by the Caspar app serve as the foundation for modifying care plans.
A more efficient and better-equipped staff equates to better resident care. Communities that have faced staffing and information challenges in the past are finding that the implementation of the Caspar.AI app can be a great solution.
Author Hugh Howey began his Silo series of post-apocalyptic science fiction stories in 2011, and attempts to bring those stories to the screen have been coming and going since 2012. Ridley Scott and Steve Zaillian were going to produce a film adaptation for 20th Century Fox. LaToya Morgan was developing a Silo series for AMC. But a decade down the line, it’s Apple TV+ that has successfully managed to get a Silo series into production. The first two episodes of the series will premiere on May 5th, with the remaining episodes to be released on a weekly basis every Friday. A teaser trailer for Silo has now arrived online, and you can check it out in the embed above.
According to TV Line, Silo follows the last 10,000 people on Earth as they navigate life in their mile-deep underground home protecting them from the toxic outside world. The catch? No one knows when or why the silo was built and anyone who goes snooping for answers faces fatal consequences.
The series has an impressive cast that includes Rebecca Ferguson (Doctor Sleep), Tim Robbins (The Shawshank Redemption), David Oyelowo (Selma), Common (John Wick: Chapter 2), and Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation).
Howey’s Silo series started with a short story called Wool, and at one point the plan was to call the Apple TV+ series Wool as well. If the show does well, there’s plenty of Howey stories to continue pulling story from: Holston, Proper Gauge, Casting Off, The Stranded, Legacy, Order, Pact, and Dust... and more to come.
Writer Graham Yost (Speed) is the behind the Apple TV+ Silo series and serves as an executive producer on it alongside Ferguson, Howey, Remi Aubuchon, Fred Golan, Nina Jack, Ingrid Escajeda, and director Morten Tyldum.
What did you think of the Silo teaser trailer? Are you familiar with Howey’s series, and will you be watching this show when it reaches Apple TV+? Share your thoughts on this one by leaving a comment below. I haven’t read any of Hugh Howey’s Silo stories (or, honestly, anything by Howey at all), but this show looks interesting to me. I might have to check it out.
Shudder has released a trailer for the horror movie The Unheard, starring Lachlan Watson and coming to the streaming service this month
A few weeks ago, we learned that Lachlan Watson, who was recently seen playing Glen and Glenda on season 2 of the Chucky TV series, had teamed up with Jeffrey A. Brown, who made his feature directorial debut with a solid horror film called The Beach House (read our review HERE), for a new horror movie called The Unheard. The Unheard will be available to watch through the Shudder streaming service in the U.S., Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand as of March 31st – and with that date creeping up on us, a trailer for the movie has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.
Scripted by Crawl writers Michael Rasmussen and Shawn Rasmussen, The Unheard follows 20-year-old Chloe Grayden, who after undergoing an experimental procedure to restore her damaged hearing, begins to suffer from auditory hallucinations seemingly related to the mysterious disappearance of her mother.
Watson is joined in the cast by Nick Sandow (Orange Is the New Black), Brendan Meyer (The OA), Michele Hicks (Mulholland Drive), Shunori Ramanathan (The Big Sick), Boyana Balta (The Last Exorcism Part II), Michelle Violette (Defending Jacob), and newcomer Beckett Guest.
The Unheard was developed and produced by Andrew D. Corkin through his Untapped banner. Corkin shares Untapped with Theo James, who serves as an executive producer on the film. The Rasmussens are also credited as producers.
Brown had this to say about the Shudder deal: “I am beyond excited to be working with Shudder again. We had a fantastic experience with The Beach House and I’m super grateful to have the opportunity to share The Unheard with its members. Our cast and crew have delivered a stunning piece of work and I cannot wait for audiences to take our trip into the strange realms between life & death and silence & noise!“
I’m a fan of The Beach House, Crawl, and Watson’s work on Chucky, so I will definitely be watching The Unheard on Shudder. What did you think of The Unheard trailer? Will you be watching this movie? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
Here’s the poster for The Unheard, followed by an image from the film:
Today’s monster kids may know Milo Manheim from his role as Zed in the Disney movies Z-O-M-B-I-E-S, Z-O-M-B-I-E-S 2, and Z-O-M-B-I-E-S 3… but now Manheim have joined the cast of a genre movie that the monster kids probably won’t be allowed to watch for a while. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Manheim is the latest addition to the cast of director Eli Roth’s long-awaited slasher Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving is based on the faux trailer Roth created for the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse, which was released way back in 2007. Roth has been wanting to make a feature version of Thanksgiving for sixteen years and even wrote the screenplay with Jeff Rendell (who played the homicidal pilgrim in the trailer) a dozen years ago. Now it’s finally happening, thanks to Spyglass Media stepping in to provide the funding. Roth jumped at the chance to get the movie made, even though it meant having Deadpool‘s Tim Miller take over as director on the reshoots for his video game adaptation Borderlands.
Roth is producing the film with Roger Birnbaum.
Manheim’s Thanksgiving co-stars include Addison Rae (He’s All That), Jalen Thomas Brooks (Walker), Nell Verlaque (Big Shot), and Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy). Details on most of the characters are being kept under wraps – all we really know at this point is that Dempsey is playing the sheriff.
If you’ve watched the Thanksgiving trailer, you have a good idea of what this slasher movie is going to be about. The Hollywood Reporter says plot details are on the thin side although it concerns a slasher who comes to small Massachusetts town with the intention of “creating a Thanksgiving carving board out of the town’s inhabitants,” per sources. Which lines up with what we’ve seen in the faux trailer.
In addition to the Z-O-M-B-I-E-S franchise, Manheim has also been seen in episodes of Ghost Whisperer, American Housewife, The Conners, and Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.
I can’t say I’m familiar with Manheim’s work, but I didn’t really expect to be familiar with most of the cast members in Thanksgiving. Slashers are all about seeing fresh faces get bloodied.
Are you looking forward to Eli Roth‘s Thanksgiving? What do you think about Milo Manheim joining the cast? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

A groundbreaking New Zealand clinical trial has found regularly consuming Pāmu Deer Milk may improve the nutritional status, muscle mass and physical performance of women aged 65 and above.
Undertaken by Pāmu New Zealand in conjunction with Massey University, and with support from the High-Value Nutrition (HVN) Ko Nga Kai Whai Painga National Science Challenge, the trial recruited 120 women over age 65 with a lower to normal Body Mass Index (BMI) to consume either 200ml of Pāmu Deer Milk or a market-leading commercial oral nutritional supplement daily for 10 weeks.
Research has shown that people lose muscle mass and bone density as they age which can lead to increased risk of falls and fractures, especially women after menopause when the bones lose calcium and other minerals.
"The study showed that Pāmu Deer Milk improved nutritional status, muscle mass and physical performance in women aged 65 and above. Further observations were that Pāmu Deer Milk may support bone health in postmenopausal women by reducing bone breakdown and bone loss over time," said Massey University Lead Researchers Professors Marlena Kruger and Pamela von Hurst.
Pāmu Deer Milk is a unique natural source of concentrated nutrition. It has significantly higher protein and calcium content compared with other milk products and contains vitamins and minerals that support skeletal and immune health, with additional minor components possessing anti-inflammatory effects.
Clinical trial participant Antoinette van Zyl from Orewa, Auckland, has continued to drink Pāmu Deer Milk since the trial ended. She has noticed a vast improvement in her strength and mobility which played a major part in her recovery since a fall a few years ago.
"It has made a considerable difference to my life. Overall, I feel more vital and have more strength and energy to make the most of life. Interestingly my friends and family often comment on my glowing skin. I drink it around three times a week now, which is more than enough for my needs given its so nourishing," said van Zyl.
Ninety percent of the trial participants would recommend Pāmu Deer Milk to friends and family.
Pāmu has been developing the deer milk business for over five years, selling domestically as well as exporting to several markets across Asia-Pacific. Pāmu Deer Milk is sourced through a partnership with Peter and Sharon McIntyre, who run a deer farm near Gore, and now through the company's own farm Aratiatia in the North Island's central plateau.
Hamish Glendinning, Pāmu Deer Milk Lead, sees enormous potential for the product to carve out a defendable position in the aged nutrition space with a natural and unique product offering, at the same time offering increased returns to deer farming in New Zealand. "This is an exciting innovation, a natural product with concentrated nutrition that we believe will make a difference to those who are wanting to restore mobility and strength as they get older."
The Popsicle combines a transparent adhesive portion and non-adhesive RFID flag ideal for tagging metallic-surface products without obscuring product details.
DALLAS, March 7, 2023 (Newswire.com)
-
SimplyRFiD has simplified the RFID tagging and tag selection process with the Popsicle RAIN RFID tag. Traditional RFID tags obscure product text when placed on products, or they don't work on products containing metallics or liquids. Designed for Shopify inventory management systems or modern RFID inventory control, the Popsicle is priced for high-volume supply chain use with none of the disadvantages.
Unique features of the SimplyRFiD Popsicle v3:
1) A clear adhesive area that does not obscure product text. This allows the tag to be placed over descriptive product text and still allows consumers to see the existing product detail.
2) Non-adhesive RFID flag will stand off from the product surface to allow tagging of products containing metal or liquids. Additionally, the RFID tag area contains a synthetic white face for printing human-readable text or adding a barcode
3) The popsicle works in standard RFID printers/encoders for low-cost printing and encoding.
