Retreat is launching Healing Our Heroes, a new behavioral health program specifically for first responders and veterans. The program offers inpatient and outpatient services that address the unique challenges facing frontline and emergency professionals. Healing Our Heroes identifies and provides treatment for depression, anxiety, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), substance use, stress and trauma response, and suicidal thoughts. 

"We're proud to expand our services and extend our skills to serve to the individuals who have given so much to help us and keep us safe when we are in need," said Peter Schorr, founder and CEO of Retreat Behavioral Health. "We take this responsibility seriously, and will work with the compassion, care, and sensitivity needed to become a trusted partner to these professionals." 

Healing Our Heroes is a response to the growing research on the behavioral health challenges that first responders, emergency personnel, law enforcement professionals, and veterans face. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA), these professionals may face an increased risk of mental health and substance use issues because of the high-stress environments and dangers they face daily. Additionally, professionals in these fields are less likely to seek help because they fear being seen as weak. 

The program will consist of individual and group therapy, holistic therapy activities (gardening, yoga, art, etc.), family engagement, medication management and/or detoxification, and access to cutting-edge therapies like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and BrainsWay deep transcranial magnetic stimulation (dTMS). Staff for the program will be comprised of former or current first responders who are specialized in peer and clinical training. 

The program was developed in consultation with Dr. Robert J. Cipriano Jr., a licensed psychologist who has worked within the South Florida community for the last 20 years. Dr. Cipriano is board certified in Police and Public Safety Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) and has worked directly with clients experiencing trauma-based symptoms. He has provided an array of clinical services to the Trauma-Intensive Care Units (ICU) and inpatient behavioral health units at a Level II trauma center and has provided several hundred critical incident stress debriefings for a variety of staff in law enforcement and hospital professionals for the last 20 years. 

Healing Our Heroes will be offered at Retreat locations in Connecticut, Florida, and Pennsylvania.

LOR Foundation Launches a Research Initiative That Funds Innovative Approaches to Using Water in Agriculture
Through the LOR Foundation's Field Work Initiative, Western Farmers and Ranchers Are Eligible for Up to $10,000 to Implement Innovative Water Projects on Their Land.

As the West experiences its worst drought in the past 1,200 years and as food demand continues to increase (by as much as 98 percent by 2050, according to some estimates), Western farmers and ranchers are on the frontlines of the fight to solve water challenges. Too often, however, funding for innovative techniques that might improve water usage is hard to access and slow to reach the experts on the ground. For example, some federal programs that provide funding to agricultural producers can take one to two years before the money reaches the people in need. That's where LOR's Field Work initiative comes in. 

Through Field Work, farmers and ranchers in Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, and Wyoming are eligible for up to $10,000 to implement innovative water projects on their land. Those projects might address issues like water diversion, storage, delivery, application, and more. LOR's goal is to get money quickly into the hands of the people who have potential solutions and just need a little help to implement them. 

"We believe that those closest to the problem often have the best solutions," says Alex Dunlop, chief business development officer for the LOR Foundation. "Farmers and ranchers in places like Monte Vista, Colorado, Libby, Montana, and Questa, New Mexico, have creative, out-of-the-box solutions to water challenges. Field Work is a chance to help them put those ideas into practice and learn from them."

The hope is that this real-world research will reveal solutions that can be used throughout the West to grow food while contending with an ever-dwindling water supply. Applications for Field Work are now open, and LOR will be accepting proposals through Feb. 22 for projects that must be completed in 2023.

KlimaDAO and SCB Group Carbon Project Financing Partnership: Improved Cookstoves for Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh

KlimaDAO has ratified 250,000 USDC in funding to support the development of the Improved Cookstoves project in Bangladesh in collaboration with SCB Group. The funding will enable the issuance of 31,250 Gold Standard certified carbon credits between 2023 and 2025, with the goal of providing liquidity for consumers within the Digital Carbon Market (DCM) on the Polygon blockchain.

By rolling out energy-efficient, improved smokeless cook stoves known locally as 'Chula' to the community, the project helps address environmental and health issues that stem from the use of inefficient cookstoves and polluting open flames within homes.

The partnership demonstrates how decentralized mechanisms can be used to transparently allocate resources towards high-impact carbon projects globally, and how community-wide governance can enable greater stakeholder engagement and scrutiny around the type and quality of carbon credits that are bridged into the DCM.

The partnership announcement comes after three months of discussion on KlimaDAO's Community Forum and a token vote via the Snapshot platform.

Drew Bonneau of KlimaDAO said, "This collaboration represents a significant milestone for KlimaDAO and the wider DCM, as the community's first DAO-wide token vote to allocate funding towards a project financing initiative. The carbon markets are becoming an increasingly important mechanism for directing capital to projects across the globe, and increased community involvement can help raise the scrutiny, scale and profile of project financing. The Improved Cookstoves for Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh project, with its strong environmental and social co-benefits, now serves as a blueprint for future decentralized carbon project initiatives."

GreenMark Biomedical Inc. "GreenMark" announces its award in the competitive Startup Central Pitch event called The Hub, which the company received on Friday, Jan. 27, 2023 in Boston, Massachusetts. GreenMark captured the winning "Best Startup", with eligibility for a $50,000 investment award. The event, organized by Revere Partners, was judged by professionals with a broad range of expertise in the dental market, and consisted of an oral presentation on innovative products by each company, followed by questions from the judges. After winning, Bloembergen stated, "We are thrilled to have been selected first in this competitive event with other innovation companies. This event allowed us to showcase our system approach to redefining caries management with our novel LumiCare™, LumiKids™ and planned CrystLCare™ products."

Startup Central included GreenMark among ten company participants, and was dedicated to disruptive innovations in dentistry, as part of a three-day exhibit at the Yankee Dental Congress. This meeting was held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center on Jan. 26-28, 2023. The Startup Central exhibit and The Hub competitive startup event were sponsored by Revere Partners, the first independent Venture Capital fund exclusively dedicated to oral health. The VC fund identifies opportunities for investors, providing capital for cutting-edge innovations in the oral and oral/systemic health sectors.

Clinical trials bring hope to patients by exposing them to potentially groundbreaking therapies. Thus, it can be especially devastating for patients to learn about a clinical trial and then fail to qualify for participation.  

1nHealth and The Mighty have teamed up to route patients who may not qualify for a specific trial to condition-focused communities on The Mighty where those patients can get support, read stories that provide representation, and be part of a community of those with similar health journeys. Patient Centricity means keeping the focus on people, and this partnership enables that to extend all the way to the recruitment stage.

Riley Craig, hair stylist and salon owner of Ri & Co Salon, launched a new hair care product line and hand-tied hair extensions collection. 

The new line, Future You, aims to bring moisture back to hair. Craig decided to start her own line of hair care when she was frustrated with the lack of truly hydrating products on the market. Though it was originally formulated with extensions in mind, each Future You product will nourish and hydrate all types of natural hair as well. 

Riley is excited to provide this caliber of hair care products to both stylist and consumer alike. 

"During the many years I spent behind the chair as a stylist and a salon owner myself, I started to see the disinformation and inconsistencies in hair care marketing. I was inspired to bring honesty, education, quality, and of course, moisture, to stylists and their clients with Future You," she said. 

Future You was developed by working closely with a team of cosmetic chemists, which means that Craig was involved in each step of the production process. Future You offers a complete hair care regimen, including a deeply hydrating shampoo and conditioner, hair masque, hair serum, detangling spray and heat protectant. Craig's line uses ingredients that are scientifically proven to moisturize, repair and strengthen hair, such as Kakadu plum extract, Camellia sinensis leaf extract, bromelain, an enzyme found in pineapples, and provitamin B5. 

A few months after she finalized the Future You product line, Craig began developing Future You's hair extension line. As a stylist, Craig specializes in installing hand-tied extensions. However, Craig noticed that the quality of the extensions on the market decreased dramatically post-pandemic, along with the product education available to stylists. 

She decided to create her own line of high-quality hair extensions, with which she could provide the level of customer service and stylist education she found was missing from the industry. Future You extensions are made from premium quality, industry-standard human hair. They are double drawn, mustache- and silicone-free, and they are available in nine easy-to-color shades. 

Craig will launch her new line with a series of salon pop-ups in the Midwest and East Coast.
