Alphazyme Announces ISO 13485:2016 Certification

JUPITER, Fla. - November 14, 2022 - (Newswire.com)

Alphazyme, a manufacturer of molecular biology enzymes, has been awarded certification to the ISO 13485:2016 Quality Management System (QMS) standard by British Standards International (BSI).

Founded in 2018, Alphazyme produces a growing portfolio of enzymes used by the firm's business partners in the fields of molecular diagnostics and nucleic acid drug development. According to Chris Benoit, CEO of Alphazyme, "through PCR tests and mRNA vaccines, the global pandemic ushered "genetic literacy" to the forefront of medicine.  The enzymes that Alphazyme produces are the molecular motors that enable the interpretation, alteration, and authorship of genetic code. A strong Quality Management System is central to Alphazyme's ability to support these technologies, and we are thrilled to announce that with this certification, we've achieved the first step in our Quality roadmap." Stephana Petrino, VP of Quality, and the architect of the QMS, added, "We selected ISO 13485 as the foundation of Alphazyme's QMS based on its relevance to our molecular diagnostic industry partners and the Standard's alignment, as a QMS, with the FDA's ICH Q10 guidelines for pharmaceutical manufacturing. The team has worked diligently since our inception to build this system, and we completed the Certification audit process with zero major non-conformities - a testament to the culture of Quality here at Alphazyme."

The ISO certification caps off an intensive period of infrastructure investment for the company. Chad Decker, COO, commented "The enzymes that author nucleic acids have never been produced in accordance with pharmaceutical regulations. Alphazyme was founded to address the gap between molecular biology enzyme production and the Quality and regulatory requirements of emerging, highly regulated use cases for these products. We have redesigned these methods and implemented them in a purpose-built facility governed by a high-traceability Quality System - and we are excited to engage with genomics industry to understand and meet expectations for these critical products."

About Alphazyme:

Alphazyme's mission is to be the world's premier partner for industrial-scale molecular biology enzymes. Leveraging world-class expertise and infrastructure, Alphazyme collaborates with the manufacturers of genomic literacy platforms to develop and produce custom enzyme formulations that meet the requirements for use in the synthesis of custom DNA and RNA molecules, sequencing-based diagnostic tests, and nucleic acid therapies. We value collaboration, customer success, continuous improvement, and affordability. Learn more about us at www.alpha-zyme.com.

Pain Intensity in Sickle Cell Disease

Pain Intensity in Sickle Cell Disease
WASHINGTON - November 14, 2022 - (Newswire.com)

A recently published article in Experimental Biology and Medicine (Volume 247, Issue 17, September, 2022) improves our understanding of pain phenotypes in sickle cell disease. The study, led by Dr. Keesha Powell-Roach in the College of Nursing at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (Tennessee, USA), describes how catecholamine-O-methyltransferase (COMT) and dopamine receptor D3 (DRD3) haplotypes are associated with pain-related sickle cell disease features and acute care utilization.

Pain, characterized by episodes of acute pain, is a hallmark symptom of individuals living with sickle cell disease, resulting in acute health care utilization. Pain severity and frequency vary significantly among patients with sickle cell disease. In previous studies of COMT and DRD3 gene single nucleotide polymorphisms possible contributions to pain-related acute care utilization in people living with sickle cell disease have been found. The goal of this study was to examine the association among haplotypes of COMT and DRD3 single nucleotide polymorphisms with pain intensity and pain-related acute care utilization in sickle cell disease. Some of the single nucleotide polymorphisms reported in this article are significant and have not been previously reported in pain and sickle cell disease. Identification of genetic contributions to pain may result in a greater understanding of sickle cell disease pain and may lead to improved medical management.

Dr. Roach said: "Despite the high prevalence of painful conditions, African Americans are routinely under-treated for their pain. Although sickle cell disease was first recognized over 100 years ago, progress in therapies have lagged significantly, with pain continuing to be the hallmark symptom for over 100,000 Americans living with sickle cell disease. A significant barrier to adequately address the pain of sickle cell disease is the insufficient information about underlying mechanisms affecting the variable degree and types of pain experienced by patients. In fact, the multiple biological and psychological factors known so far to contribute to other pain conditions are under-studied in sickle cell disease."

Dr. Steven R. Goodman, Editor-in-Chief of Experimental Biology and Medicine, said "Dr.Powell-Roach and colleagues found haplotypes in one COMT haploblock and two DRD3 haploblocks that were significantly associated with one or both pain outcomes (average pain intensity and pain-related acute care). This important study paves the way to an improved understanding of genomic contributions to the varying pain phenotypes observed in patients with sickle cell disease.

Physicians for Informed Consent Challenges the Basis for COVID-19 Vaccine Mandates

Physicians for Informed Consent Challenges the Basis for COVID-19 Vaccine Mandates
According to Physicians for Informed Consent, new data raise serious concerns over the risks of hospitalization in people vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine.

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - November 11, 2022 - (Newswire.com)

Physicians for Informed Consent (PIC) has released an update to its educational document "COVID-19 Vaccine Mandates: 21 Scientific Facts That Challenge the Assumptions." Developed from data compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, National Library of Medicine, and other established sources, the PIC document covers issues of critical importance to both the medical community and the public. Reflecting key scientific research, the document refutes the basis for COVID-19 vaccine mandates. For example, according to Physicians for Informed Consent, studies (referenced here) show:

  • COVID-19 vaccines may increase the risk of hospitalizations in vaccinated people.

A study published in Vaccine found that the number of serious adverse events in people vaccinated with the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is higher than the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations prevented. For every two COVID-19 hospitalizations prevented in vaccinated people, there are 10 COVID-19 vaccine serious adverse events.

  • COVID-19 vaccines increase the risk of myocarditis in young men.

A study published in Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety shows that in males aged 18 to 24 years, the risk of myocarditis is 1 in 1,862 after the second dose of a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine.

  • COVID-19 vaccines increase the risk of cardiac-related deaths in men.

A study by the Florida Department of Health found there is a 97% increased risk of cardiac-related deaths in males aged 18-39 within 28 days of being vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine.

  • COVID-19 vaccines increase the length of menstrual cycles in women.

A study published in BMJ found that in women, vaccination with two doses within the same menstrual cycle leads to a 3.7-day increase in that cycle's length. The consequences of this phenomenon are not known.

It can take months or even years for new data to reach the general medical community. As such, some healthcare providers may be unaware of COVID-19 vaccine facts and figures. In providing this document, PIC highlights important statistics to help medical professionals and their patients more easily assess the risks of the vaccine compared to the risks of COVID-19. In addition, as a nonprofit organization with headquarters in California — where AB 2098, a doctor-censorship bill, was recently signed into law — PIC asserts that it is now more important than ever for the general public to be able to access science-based COVID-19 analyses.

"AB 2098 is immoral and anti-science," said Dr. Shira Miller, founder and president of Physicians for Informed Consent. "PIC as an organization will continue speaking out and educating the public about COVID-19, COVID-19 vaccines, and the need to have doctors whose professional opinion hasn't been censored — because without free speech informed consent is not possible."

Gender-Free Kids Clothing Brand StereoType Celebrates 2 Year Anniversary
Opens Doors to Its Downtown San Francisco Office, Names Twins Who Inspired The Brand as Co-Founders

SAN FRANCISCO - November 11, 2022 - (Newswire.com)

StereoType, a gender-free kids clothing company that celebrates individuality and freedom of expression, today marks its second anniversary. Timed with this milestone, StereoType has opened its first office space in downtown San Francisco which will serve as the brand's official headquarters and the homebase for the development of StereoType's future capsule collections and other important projects for the brand. The new StereoType office will be located at 222 Columbus Street.

"We're really excited to settle into our new office space in the heart of San Francisco. With the city being the birthplace of the brand and its culture being ingrained in its DNA, this space is the perfect new home for StereoType and a place where we will bring to life the next phase of our collection," said founder and CEO, Elizabeth Brunner. "The first two years of StereoType have been incredibly challenging but equally as rewarding. Today, StereoType's  mission is stronger than ever and I am looking forward to incorporating many other elements that will further amplify our vision of empowering and celebrating kids in authentically expressing themselves," added Brunner.

Notably, in recent months, StereoType has also named the twins who inspired the brand as its co-founders, along with their mom. The DNA of the brand, Chloe and Jacob Brunner are an integral part of the company's brand ethos and mission. The twins have been the leading brand ambassadors since the beginning, participating in brand photoshoots, social media content creation, and in the behind-the-scenes operations of the business offering their creative input on the designs of the clothing as well as testing out the products to make sure they are play-worthy.

"StereoType was born because of my boy-girl twins and them mixing together clothes from each others' closets to create their own blended fashion style that authentically represents who they are and how they want to dress. Making them the official brand co-founders made perfect sense and I am excited to have them alongside for this adventure," said Brunner.

Launched in 2020 by San Francisco-based designer Elizabeth Brunner, StereoType was one of the first kids clothing brands to bring a collection of gender-free and style-forward basics that blended traditional ideas of boys' and girls' wear to market. StereoType combines elements of style, design and comfort to promote creativity, individuality and freedom of expression for kids. Inspired by Elizabeth's boy-girl twins, who have been blending their wardrobes since a young age, StereoType's blended fashion collection was created to break the rules of gendered clothing and inspire authenticity and freedom of self-expression. StereoType's mission is to celebrate children's fashion and to advocate for individuality of all humans, especially the small ones.
