Harvest Hills USA Launches New Sustainable Doggy Bag Made From Corn Biodegradable-Certified Compostable
This company was founded to solve the problem of having too many plastic bags end up in landfills. Harvest Hills USA solves that problem by offering bags made from corn starch - no microplastics. The bags are just as strong as plastic bags but are much better for the environment.

POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. - November 3, 2022 - (Newswire.com)

This nation's landfills are inundated with plastic bags. Until an alternative is used instead of running for the plastic bag, things won't change. Harvest Hills USA is set to launch an alternative to the archaic plastic bags still in use.

They have developed a doggy waste bag that is bio-degradable and sustainable, made from corn, no microplastics are used. It takes about 118 days for these bags to break down in a landfill. For composting, it generally takes 3-6 months. The compost certifications are ASTM D6400 and EN 13432. Plus, it has the OK Compost Home certification and also for commercial and municipal compost. The bags degrade into water and CO2.

During a recent interview, a company spokesperson, Stuart Briscar (Owner and Founder) made these comments: "We believe in doing better for the environment. That's why we created Harvest Hills USA. We want to offer people an alternative to plastic waste bags that may harm our environment, but are still thick and strong like traditional bags."

He went on to say, "Our products are made from a unique blend of corn and other biodegradable materials, so they're not only better for the environment but also more durable than other options. And because they're compostable and made from renewable resources, they'll break down completely after use - no landfill waste. No more plastic bags clogging up landfills or littering our oceans, lakes, rivers, and streets."

The company reports that they will be offering a subscription service as well and at a discount, that way the customer will get more bags just in time. These bags are made from all-natural fibers, so users can feel good about using them around the home and in the yard. They're perfect for when taking the dog for a walk or want to clean up after the cat. They also work great for baby diapers.

Features & Benefits:

  • Certified Compostable
  • Biodegradable
  • Made from corn -- no microplastics

4 Things to Include in Your Financial Emergency Preparedness Plan

4 Things to Include in Your Financial Emergency Preparedness Plan
NEW YORK - November 3, 2022 - (Newswire.com)

iQuanti: Financial emergencies can happen anytime. Having a proper plan can help protect you from suffering a significant financial loss. A few things that should be a part of your emergency preparedness plan include having an emergency fund and having health and life insurance. Before you encounter a financial crisis, here are four things you should include in your financial emergency preparedness plan.

1. Emergency fund

An emergency fund is a specific amount of money you set aside to help cover you in the event of a financial emergency. Some examples of emergencies that can happen include getting laid off, missing work due to illness or injury, or unexpected car or home expenses. Your emergency fund can be used to supplement or replace your income if you're out of work for a period of time. It can take care of unexpected expenses and prevent you from going into debt. It's ideal to save up at least three to six months of income so you can continue to cover your essential costs until you find a new job.

Set a goal for how much you'll put into your emergency account each month. If you're living paycheck to paycheck, you can start with a small goal of saving 2% of your net income. Set up automatic recurring transfers to make it easier for you to make consistent contributions.

There may be times of the year you receive a higher amount of income than normal, such as getting a tax refund. It's a good idea to put the extra money into the emergency fund. Consider also setting up automatic notifications of how much money is currently in the emergency savings account. This can help you keep track of how much is in your emergency fund and motivate you to keep saving money as you watch it grow.

2. Health and life insurance

Different types of insurance can help protect you or your family from unexpected financial expenses. Health insurance is designed to pay for health or medical expenses. Depending on the type of insurance chosen, it may cover some or all of the costs of emergency care, routine care, and chronic illness treatment. Life insurance is an agreement where as long as premiums have been paid, the insurer will pay out a lump sum of money to a designated beneficiary if the policyholder dies. Other types of insurance that can protect you against financial emergencies include home insurance, renters insurance, and disability insurance.

3. Get physical copies of important documents

In today's digital age, important documents are being stored online more than ever before. But in the event of a natural disaster that may cut off power or internet, it's necessary to have physical copies of your documents stored. Get a printout of documents such as your bank account information, birth certificate, social security card, and insurance policies.

4. Document your valuables

If your home is ever damaged or destroyed, having a home inventory can make filing a claim with your home insurance company easier. Write down the serial numbers of major items and take photos of your possessions. Home insurance is designed to protect both the physical structure of your home and the belongings that are in it. Including all these things in your financial emergency preparedness plan will help keep you financially stable when an emergency happens.

4 Ways to Prepare for Rising Interest Rates

0
4 Ways to Prepare for Rising Interest Rates
NEW YORK - November 3, 2022 - (Newswire.com)

iQuanti: The Federal Reserve raises interest rates to help combat inflation. In May of 2022, when the Fed raised its rate by half a percentage point, it was the biggest increase in 22 years. It's important to know what rising interest rates mean and how to be prepared for a Fed rate hike. Being prepared will help you to minimize any negative financial impact. Here are what rising interest rates mean and four ways you can prepare for them.

What do rising interest rates mean?

When the interest rate changes, it can have both a positive and negative effect on the market. While the stock market responds immediately to these changes, the full economic impact isn't seen until at least 12 months. When interest rates rise, it makes it more expensive to borrow money. Interest costs for credit cards, student debt, mortgages, car loans, business loans, and home equity lines of credit all increase. With higher mortgage rates, it's more difficult for consumers to afford home prices that have risen since the pandemic.

It causes consumers to start spending less, decreasing demand for goods and services and causing inflation to decrease. The positive side of an interest rate hike is that it causes savings rates to rise. This means that savers will start earning interest again. Nonetheless, it doesn't occur quickly, and saving rates will likely still be low.

How to prepare for the next Fed rate hike

Before the next Fed rate hike occurs, there are four things you can do to help yourself be prepared:

1. Pay down your credit card debt

Whenever the fed funds rate goes up, it increases the lending rates that banks offer to customers. The increased lending rates cause an increase in your credit card rates within a few statements. If you currently have a balance on your credit cards, look into transferring that balance to a zero-rate balance transfer card that's locked in for one to two years. It'll protect you from paying more due to rate hikes, making it easier for you to completely pay off your debt. More savings and less debt can put you in a better financial position to manage future rising interest rates.

2. Search for good savings yields

As mentioned earlier, when rates rise, savers earn interest on their accounts. Look for savings accounts with the highest yields and start saving regularly. CDs are a popular option since they have higher interest rates than other savings accounts and are federally insured. The account being federally insured means you're protected against loss if the bank fails.

3. Work on your credit score

With a higher credit score, you're more able to qualify for the lowest available rates on credit cards. That can help with offsetting the increased cost of borrowing. Be sure to continue paying your bills on time and avoid using more than 30% of your available credit.

4. Look for ways to increase your earnings

As rising interest rates cause the cost of living to rise, it's a good idea to look for more ways to increase your earnings. You can seek more education and training or pursue other means of increasing your skill set. Data from the Labor Department has shown that joblessness is lower for those with bachelor's degrees or higher. By taking these actions, you can help keep any negative financial impact from rising interest rates to a minimum.

Bright Feeds, Connecticut’s New Food Waste Recycler, Opens Plant in Berlin

Bright Feeds, Connecticut’s New Food Waste Recycler, Opens Plant in Berlin
Licensed for 450 tons of food waste per day, Bright Feeds' inaugural plant converts unwanted food into animal feed—reducing greenhouse gas emissions and saving companies and municipalities money.

Bright Feeds Launch

Katie Dykes, Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), cuts the ribbon at Bright Feeds' new plant in Berlin, CT

BERLIN, Conn. - November 3, 2022 - (Newswire.com)

Bright Feeds, a New England-based green startup, opened its first food waste processing plant in Berlin, Connecticut, last week. Licensed to process 450 tons of food waste per day for the next 10 years, the plant is positioned to fill a waste processing gap left by the July 2022 closure of the MIRA plant in nearby Hartford.

"With Bright Feeds here, we have a bright future in Connecticut," says Katie Dykes, Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP). "I'm excited about what this could mean, not just for Berlin, but for helping Connecticut solve this waste disposal crisis in a really exciting way."

Bright Feeds' 25,000-square-foot plant uses cutting-edge artificial intelligence and drying technology to convert unwanted food into an all-natural, nutritious soy and corn substitute for animal feed. Bright Feeds developed its proprietary drying technology with engineers at Boston College and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. It uses best-in-class technology sourced from around the globe, and manufactured and assembled in the U.S.

At capacity, the environmental impact of the Berlin plant is equivalent to removing 22,000 cars from the road every year. The carbon-negative process uses less energy and is more scalable than other food waste recycling solutions.

"Not only are we solving the food waste problem, but we're doing it in a way that's more efficient than anything else commercially available," says Bright Feeds President and COO Tim Rassias.

Food waste is a key contributor to climate change:

  • Globally, if food waste were a country, it would be the third greatest greenhouse gas emitter after China and the U.S. (World Resources Institute).
  • In the U.S., about 40% of food is never eaten—and nearly 70% of that waste typically ends up in landfills or greenhouse gas-emitting incinerators (USDAEPA).
  • New England produced over 2 million tons of food waste in 2019, with 520,000 tons produced in Connecticut, where food makes up about 22% of disposed waste (Connecticut waste study).

"41% of what we burn and bury every year is actually valuable material: It's food scraps, it's yard waste, it's all kinds of organics that are incredibly valuable and can be repurposed," says Dykes. "The Bright Feeds model is, for the first time, at scale, turning food waste into a food source for animals, which is one of the best uses for organic material under Connecticut's waste hierarchy."

According to the EPA, feeding animals is the top solution for reducing food waste after feeding hungry people.

"Yes, we can turn it into compost. Yes, we can turn it into energy. Those are all good—but the best thing is to take this stuff and preserve it as food and use it," says Bright Feeds Board Chairman and investor Scott Kalb. "That's what we're doing."

Thanks to its pioneering technology, Bright Feeds can accept a wider variety of food waste than its competitors: not just dry, grain-based waste, but also vegetables, fruit, and other wet waste.

"We're a one-stop shop for food waste," says CEO Jonathan Fife. "We built our whole process around taking a variety of inputs and producing a consistent, high-quality feed."

Using a variety of food waste enables Bright Feeds to consistently produce a highly nutritious product. Bright Feeds then sells the meal to animal feed manufacturers who use it as an ingredient in their feed.

Bright Feeds keeps food out of the waste stream—and saves money for food producers, waste management companies, and municipalities.

New England's ongoing waste crisis calls for creative solutions. With shrinking landfill space, higher gas prices, and multiplying tipping fees, businesses and municipalities face increasing challenges on what to do with their trash.

Bright Feeds enables the responsible disposal of unwanted food for a fraction of typical tipping fees.

The Berlin plant is located between I-91 and I-84, near USA Waste's new recycling center and with easy access to New York City and Massachusetts. Bright Feeds also has a collection point in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, and others in the works. The company plans to scale up with additional plants first in New England and then throughout the country.

Annual Awards Program Recognizes Innovation in the Global Life Sciences and Biotechnology Industry

TEL AVIV, Israel - November 3, 2022 - (Newswire.com)

Imagene, an emerging leader in the field of AI-based precision oncology, today announced it has been selected as "Oncology Innovation of the Year" in the second annual BioTech Breakthrough Awards program conducted by BioTech Breakthrough, a leading independent market intelligence organization that evaluates and recognizes standout life sciences and biotechnology companies, products and services around the globe.

The mission of the annual BioTech Breakthrough Awards program is to conduct the industry's most comprehensive analysis and evaluation of the top companies, solutions and products in the life sciences and biotechnology industry today. This year's program attracted more than 1,350 nominations from over 12 different countries throughout the world. Imagene's AI-based Biomarker Detection was chosen as a breakthrough innovation in the field of Medical Technology.

Imagene is a pioneer startup in the Digital Genomics space. Using computer vision algorithms, the company can detect in real-time cancerous genomic alterations directly from the biopsy slide (H&E) scanned image. The idea behind Imagene's innovative development aligns with the notion that actionable (driver) genomic alterations will have a morphological effect on the tissue in a resolution that is impossible for the human eye to detect, but AI and deep learning models can.

"We are honored to be recognized among these great Life Science and BioTech innovators as we continue to advance precision oncology in the fight against cancer," said Dean Bitan, co-founder and CEO at Imagene. "The cancer diagnosis process has evolved to include crucial genomic information; however, long turnaround time, tissue, and cost make its availability limited. Identifying gene alterations is key for improving patient care and guiding targeted therapeutic decisions; physicians should be able to make optimal treatment decisions in a timely and accurate manner. The availability of rapid molecular analysis can sometimes be the difference between life and death."

"Based on the NCCN guidelines, the identification of patient-specific actionable genomic alterations serves as the basis foundation of precision oncology and is utilized routinely for optimal and personalized treatment decisions that drive higher response and mortality rates. The need to use biological specimens and the extended time needed for the analysis and interpretation, as well as inadequate tissue biopsies result in patients not getting life-saving treatment quickly enough," said Bryan Vaughn, Managing Director of BioTech Breakthrough Awards. "Imagene's innovative solution opens the path to fast and accurate cancer diagnosis, demonstrating the huge advancement that AI-based genomic testing can offer to cancer patients' care. All our deep congratulations on winning 'Oncology Innovation of the Year!'"

Imagene has developed 28 different models for actionable alterations across eight cancer types, including Lung, Colorectal, Bladder, Breast, Ovary, Hematology, Thyroid, and brain cancer. The detection accuracy level aligns with the current gold-standard methodologies showing an average sensitivity that is superior to the standard of care. Imagene real-time image-based biomarker detection takes about two minutes, it reduces cost and time significantly with high scalability and seamless integration with routine workflows.

Negative Operating Margins Drive Health Systems to Expand Outsourcing – Black Book 2022 Research Results

Negative Operating Margins Drive Health Systems to Expand Outsourcing – Black Book 2022 Research Results
The healthcare provider and hospital outsourcing market size is projected to reach USD 750 billion by 2028 and expand at a CAGR of 11.5% between now and 2026.

TAMPA, Fla. - November 2, 2022 - (Newswire.com)

Management representatives from 775 provider organizations are electing to deflect mounting solution delivery concerns to outsourcing vendors, according to nearly all respondents to the sweeping seven-month poll.

Ninety-eight percent of hospital leaders have intensified their strategic planning efforts to employ more third-party vendors for cost-efficiencies, allowing hospitals and physician groups to focus on the priorities of improving patient access, acquiring replacements for aging equipment, bettering profit margins, and implementing digital technologies.

In each of the 30 outsourced services categories surveyed, clients reported service levels had exceeded expectations in 88% of all organizations polled in CY 2022. Less than 5% of clients reported extreme dissatisfaction in meeting expectations that forced contract terminations. Additionally, nearly 8 in 10 medical professionals surveyed stated that the risk of harm to patients due to the poor performance of vendors was not an issue, despite some critics charging that outsourcing clinically relevant services leads to the relinquishment of quality patient care.

"Outsourcing in the healthcare industry doesn't get the same bad rap other sectors have encountered such as banking, insurance, and call centers, where negative stereotypes associated with offshoring and/or full-function outsourcing were bungled for decades," said Doug Brown, President of Black Book. "In hospitals, for instance, there is a developed understanding of the broad spectrum of managed clinical options and how to integrate outsourced services effectively."

More managed services firms are creating a niche by specifically focusing on healthcare clients only. "Vendors have recognized the need to bundle services that are only relevant to hospitals, physicians, and health plans such as IT, cybersecurity, clinical support services, analytics, and technical support," said Brown.

As hospitals and medical groups look for ways to find adequate staff and reduce costs, particularly by implementing value-based care programs, outsourcing is a valid strategy to achieve a financially healthier organization. However, caution should be given to the common pitfalls in healthcare when vetting or considering outsourcing.

3,444 client users of hospital outsourcing responded to polls on user customer satisfaction and experience in several functional areas. The top-ranked outsourcing vendors in 2022 included:

  • ANESTHESIA DEPARTMENT - NORTH AMERICAN PARTNERS IN ANESTHESIA (NAPA)
  • BIOMEDICAL & CLINICAL ENGINEERING - EDGE BIOMEDICAL
  • CODING, CDI & CAC - CORROHEALTH
