ASSE International Student Exchange Programs Invites American Families to Host an Exchange Student
Share the Joy, Traditions and Stories of Your Holidays with a High School Student from Abroad

ASSE International Student Exchange Programs (ASSE), a non-profit, public benefit organization, is inviting American families to discover the many rewards of hosting a foreign exchange student.

ASSE exchange students hail from more than 50 countries worldwide, including Italy, France, Spain, Brazil, and Thailand, among others. They are between the ages of 15 and 18, and they are eager to experience American culture, family life, school, sports, and more. They also enjoy sharing their own culture and language with their host families, who open their homes to them as if they were members of their own families. This provides everyone involved with a rich cultural experience.

Host families can be single parents, couples, or single people. Exchange students arrive with pocket money for personal expenses and full health, accident, and liability insurance. ASSE students are chosen based on their academic and personal qualities, and host families choose their students from a wide range of backgrounds, nations, and interests.

Those interested in hosting an exchange student this fall should contact Saphia Lesch at 1-800-736-1760, visit www.asse.com, or send an email to asseusamidwest@asse.com to learn more or begin the application process. Students are eager to learn about their American host family, so start the process of welcoming your new son or daughter today. The memories and the friendships you create with your exchange student will be cherished forever.

Rose Villa Senior Living continues to drive innovation in senior living by partnering with The Malden Collective (TMC) to launch the LiveWell™ Tech Accelerator. Part of TMC’s Innovation Hub, the Tech Accelerator gives emerging companies an opportunity to pilot proven technologies in a senior living environment.

The first LiveWell™ Tech Accelerator pilot is WalkWise, a resident monitoring tool that reduces falls by providing actionable data on changes in gait and mobility. The small battery-operated device attaches to residents’ walkers, canes, and wheelchairs and transmits the data without needing Wi-Fi. According to WalkWise Founder & CEO Peter Chamberlain, the technology helps prevent falls by up to 40 percent.

Rose Villa CEO Glen Lewis said Rose Villa has a history of transforming senior living. “We are driven to innovate and continuously improve,” he said. “Fostering collaborative partnerships with organizations like The Malden Collective and WalkWise leads to creative tech solutions that improve the health and well-being of our residents and team members as well as others within the senior living sector.”

“Launching the LiveWell™ Tech Accelerator with Rose Villa is an ideal way to introduce emerging technologies that improve the quality of care in long-term care facilities in Oregon and nationwide,” said Barbara Kohnen Adriance, CEO of The Malden Collective. “Having access to residents, team members, and facilities while designing and prototyping elder-care products is a fantastic opportunity for companies with promising technology. Rose Villa residents and its innovative team are the perfect match to test drive these new technologies.”

Expected to launch at Rose Villa this month, WalkWise will use insights and data gathered to enhance user experience and improve technology. Rose Villa will analyze this information and gather feedback from residents and team members to assess if the technology is a good fit and a worthwhile investment for the community.

“Selecting technologies that improve safety and quality of life is essential for Rose Villa to remain a community where new generations of seniors want to live, where people want to work, and where both groups continue to thrive,” explained Lewis. “Participating in the Tech Accelerator helps us to make informed decisions without allocating substantial resources, time, and budget.”

Rose Villa, an independent nonprofit life plan community located at 13505 SE River Road, Portland, Oregon, has 262 independent living homes on a 22-acre campus that strategically takes advantage of the green space and river views. A completed 10-year campus redevelopment program adds a Creative Arts Building, a wellness center with a gym and yoga fitness studio, a saline pool, a slide and lazy river, and two dining venues. Rosebud Preschool opened on campus in spring 2023. Rose Villa is listed among the 100 Best Nonprofits to Work For in Oregon and the Top 100 Best Green Workplaces by Oregon Business Magazine.

Arise, ye Tarnished! FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki is expressing interest in adapting Elden Ring into a film or television series

FromSoftware’s president, Hidetaka Miyazaki, says an Elden Ring movie or television series is possible as the studio looks to expand.

Last Updated on July 2, 2024

As gamers invent new curse words following the release of FromSoftware’s Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, studio president Hidetaka Miyazaki is ready to entertain the thought of creating an Elden Ring movie. Speaking with The Guardian (via Video Games Chronicle), Miyazaki said new adaptations of the sprawling open-world action RPG are possible. While Miyazaki hesitates to say anything official, he thinks a film or television series set in The Lands Between requires talents beyond his purview.

“I don’t see any reason to deny another interpretation or adaptation of Elden Ring, a movie for example,” Miyazaki told The Guardian.

“But I don’t think I, or FromSoftware, have the knowledge or ability to produce something in a different medium. So that’s where a very strong partner would come into play. We’d have to build a lot of trust and agreement on whatever it is we’re trying to achieve, but there’s interest, for sure.”

Miyazaki is a brilliant person. He knows the power Elden Ring wields throughout the gaming community and how precious the game is for Soulsbourne fans. Beyond the game’s breathtaking environments, armies of nightmarish enemies, awe-inspiring sense of mystery, and punishing learning curve, Elden Ring takes place in a world with profound lore, dark themes, and staggering scope. Distilling the adventure of the Tarnished, individuals who lost the grace of the Erdtree and were consequently banished from the Lands Between by Queen Marika the Eternal, is easier said than done. It would take an extraordinarily talented team years to craft a worthy film or television adaptation, and that’s after deciding what medium to use when presenting the story. While a live-action version could work, my gut tells me a Castlevania-like animated adaptation holds more water.

FromSoftware says Elden Ring has sold 25 million copies, making it one of the most successful games of the current generation. I’m in the middle of the Erdtree DLC now, having recently defeated the Dancing Lion by the skin of my teeth. The thought of FromSoftware adapting the game excited me, but only if they give the project the time and talent it needs to match the quality of the game itself. With that in mind, you might have an easier time defeating Radahn on your first try than assembling the right team for the job.

New Denis Villeneuve movie set for 2026 release; could it be Dune 3?

New Denis Villeneuve movie set for 2026 release; could it be Dune 3?

Warner Bros. sets new Denis Villeneuve event movie for a December 2026 release, leading some to wonder if it could be Dune 3.

Warner Bros. has slated an “Untitled Denis Villeneuve Event Film” for a December 18, 2026 release, leading some to wonder whether this could be Dune 3.

According to Deadline, they’re still working on the script for Dune 3, which is said to be an adaptation of Dune Messiah, and locking in the cast, so it’s entirely possible this new project could be Villeneuve’s final movie in the franchise. That said, the director has previously admitted that he wanted to take a break from Arrakis after spending the last six years working on the first two movies.

I felt that it was a good idea to move forward right after Part One. We were already designing, writing et cetera. But it also meant that for six years I was on Arrakis non-stop, and I think it will be healthy to step back a little bit,” Villeneuve said. “First, make sure that we have a strong screenplay. The thing I want to avoid is not having something ready. I never did it, and now I feel it could be dangerous because of the enthusiasm. We need to make sure all the ideas are on paper.

Villeneuve added, “If we go back, it needs to be real, it needs to be relevant, if ever I do Dune Messiah, [it’s] because it’s going to be better than Part Two. Otherwise, I don’t do it.” Earlier this year, the director said he was already writing the third installment. “That anger [felt by Zendaya’s character at the end of Dune: Part Two] is tremendous,” he said. “I don’t want to reveal what I’m going to do with the third movie. I know exactly what to do. I’m writing it right now. But there’s a lot of firepower there, and I’m very excited about that decision.

Several other possibilities exist, including an adaptation of Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario set up at Legendary. It was initially reported that this project would come before Dune 3, but several sources now say Villeneuve may have had a change of heart and could be headed back to Dune sooner than expected. There’s also the long-in-development Cleopatra project, which was once rumoured to star Zendaya, but no matter what happens, a new Denis Villeneuve movie is something to celebrate.

Agatha All Along image gathers a group of covenless witches together

An image from the upcoming Marvel / Disney+ series Agatha All Along shows Kathryn Hahn’s character hanging out with other witches

The first Marvel / Disney+ series WandaVision is getting a spin-off / follow-up called Agatha All Along (with Marvel teasing out the title reveal by giving us fake ones earlier: Agatha: House of HarknessAgatha: Coven of Chaos, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, Agatha: The Lying Witch with Great Wardrobe), and the show is set to premiere on Disney+ with its first two episodes on September 18th. Today, the folks at Empire got their hands on an image from the show, which can be seen at the bottom of this article, and also learned that the story involves Agatha (Kathryn Hahn reprises the role) gathering together a group of covenless witches.

As shared by the folks at ComicBookMovie.com, the first episode of Agatha All Along has the following synopsis, which was apparently found in a U.S. Copyright Office listing: In the first episode, we see Agatha finally break out of a spell she has been trapped in. She can’t wait to go back to her old murderous ways only to find that she is powerless. The only way forward for her is to embark on a perilous quest to get her powers back with the help of an unlikely friend or two.

Hahn is joined in the cast by Joe Locke, Patti LuPone, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Debra Jo Rupp, and Aubrey Plaza. Locke and Plaza are the only two from that list who are absent from the image below.

The first episode of Agatha All Along was directed by Jac Schaeffer, who previously directed the sci-fi rom-com TiMER, created WandaVision, and worked on the scripts for Black Widow and Captain Marvel. Schaeffer told Empire that Agatha is joined by “a disparate, mixed bag of witches,” and “what they have in common is that they’re covenless witches. Witches are defined by deception, treachery, villainy and selfishness. What do you do when you have a group of witches who [demonstrate] those notions and you need them to work together?” She went on to say, “Where WandaVision played with the form of classic TV sitcoms, [here] we do a lot of playing with what the assumptions about witches are. Like, what are the shorthand visuals for witches? We certainly didn’t want a one-dimensional nasty witch. We will have moments where we see Agatha’s true heart.

Empire also noted that word is going around that WandaVision composers Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who created the popular song “Agatha All Along,” may be creating some more songs for Agatha’s own show.

Are you looking forward to Agatha All Along? Check out the image, then let us know by leaving a comment below.

Warner Bros. reveals when the next MonsterVerse movie will smash into theaters

Warner Bros. reveals when the next MonsterVerse movie will smash into theaters

Warner Bros. announces the release date of the next MonsterVerse movie, which is slated to be directed by Grant Sputore.

With Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire sitting pretty as the highest-grossing movie in the MonsterVerse, it’s no surprise that another installment is on the way. Today, Warner Bros. announced the official release date for the next MonsterVerse movie, which will be smashing into theaters on March 26, 2027.

After helming Godzilla v Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Adam Wingard was expected to return for more. The studio was keen to have him back, but scheduling issues meant that he had to step down. It was announced earlier this month that Grant Sputore, the director of Hilary Swank’s sci-fi thriller I Am Mother, would be replacing him. The studio had previously tapped Dave Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) to write the script for the Godzilla x Kong sequel.

Although Wingard is out of the MonsterVerse for the time being, there’s a chance he could come back for another movie. The director has previously said that he would be open to returning. “There’s always the seduction of making a trilogy out of it, and I think that there’s some untapped areas to go into,” Wingard said. “There’s also ways to continue to innovate the stylized approach to the MonsterVerse, and what’s great about the MonsterVerse is that it’s allowed so many different directors to approach it with their unique style and color palette.” Although I’m sure some fans will miss him, I’m excited to see what someone new will bring to the franchise.

Although Godzilla x Kong has received mixed reviews, it sounds like it’s a lot of pure fun bursting with monster mayhem. However, our own Chris Bumbray did have one complaint. “While the trailers made it look like it’s a non-stop brofest between Godzilla and Kong, the two are kept apart for close to ninety minutes, and this movie is just under two hours,” Bumbray wrote. “All of the scenes you’ve seen of them doing their thing together are from the last chunk of the film. While that’s a bummer, I must admit that I found myself surprisingly engaged by the build-up.” You can check out the rest of Bumbray’s review right here.

Lupita N’yongo had to get over her fear of cats for A Quiet Place: Day One

Lupita N’yongo had to get over her fear of cats for A Quiet Place: Day One

Before starring in A Quiet Place: Day One, Lupita N’yongo had to overcome her lifelong fear of cats and even underwent “cat therapy.”

Many of us have a fear that might be considered irrational to someone else, and for Lupita N’yongo, that fear was cats. When it came to starring in A Quiet Place: Day One, this proved to be a big problem as one of her co-stars was… well, a cat.

A Quiet Place: Day One centers on Sam (N’yongo), a young woman who finds herself stranded in New York City when the alien invasion begins. She’s accompanied by her cat Frodo and soon teams up with Eric (Joseph Quinn) to try to survive the invasion. Although N’yongo was keen to take part, the involvement of the cat almost made her consider turning the film down. “When I read the script, I loved the character, and I loved the story that Michael was telling with this film. It’s a very surprising tone that he’s added to this universe,” N’yongo told Digital Spy. “The cat, that was the sticking point for me.

The actress said she tried to get director Michael Sarnoski to change the cat to a different animal, but he refused. So in order to get over her fear of cats, Lupita N’yongo went through cat therapy. “It started with two, and the first day, they just let the cats roam around me, and I asked the woman who brought the cats questions about why they were doing certain things,” N’yongo explained. “The next day, I touched one with one finger and slowly, slowly I got comfortable enough to hold a cat through this film.

The “cat therapy” worked, and N’yongo got along just fine with her feline co-star, who was actually played by two cats: Schnitzel and Nico. In fact, she became a cat mom in real life, adopting a cat named Yoyo. “I have historically been afraid of cats, but when my life was altered instantly recently, a little voice whispered to me that it was time to embrace change and new possibilities,” N’yongo wrote on Instagram last year.

A Quiet Place: Day One is now playing in theaters, so be sure to check out a review from our own Chris Bumbray right here.
