Place of Bones trailer: Heather Graham stars in action-packed horror Western

A trailer offers a look at the horror Western Place of Bones, starring Heather Graham, Tom Hopper, and Corin Nemec

I always enjoy seeing the horror and Western genres get mixed together, so as soon as I saw that the upcoming film Place of Bones is being described as “action-packed horror Western,” I was sold on checking it out. I didn’t even have to watch a trailer to know I want to see how the movie has turned out – but distributor The Avenue has unveiled a trailer for Place of Bones, and you can check it out in the embed above. The film is set to receive a theatrical and digital release on August 23rd.

Audrey Cummings, who credits include the films Tormented, Darken, and She Never Died, as well as episodes of the TV shows The Haunted Museum, Ginny & Georgia, and Astrid and Lilly Save the World, directed Place of Bones from a screenplay by Richard Taylor, whose credits stretch back to the 1978 car chase flick Stingray and the 1985 horror anthology Fright Show.

Set in 1876, Place of Bones tells the following story: On a remote ranch, a mother and her daughter fight for survival when a wounded outlaw seeking refuge brings a notorious bank robber and his ruthless gang, all desperate to reclaim a stolen fortune, right to their doorstep.

Heather Graham (Suitable Flesh) plays the mother mentioned in the synopsis and is joined in the cast by Tom Hopper (Black Sails), Corin Nemec (Stephen King’s The Stand), Brielle Robillard (The Silencing), Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (Project Legion), Gattlin Griffith (Labor Day), Zachary Keller (4400), Ray Abruzzo (The Sopranos), David Lipper (Full House), Jeanette Schock (Secrets in the Desert), and Isabella Blake-Thomas (Secret Society of Second Born Royals).

Blake-Thomas was also an associate producer on the film, which was produced by Lipper, alongside Robert A. Daly Jr., Eric Gozlan, and Vindhya Sagar. Joe Heath, Richard Iott, and Matt O’Neill serve as executive producers. Denise Loren, Kipp Tribble, and Lawreen K. Yakkel co-produced.

Kevin Smith shares a look at The 4:30 Movie color timing

Kevin Smith shares a look at The 4:30 Movie color timing

Kevin Smith has shared a behind-the-scenes look at the color timing for his 16th feature film, The 4:30 Movie

The 4:30 Movie is the sixteenth feature film from director Kevin Smith, and a while back the movie not only received an R-rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board, but it also secured a distribution deal with Saban Films that will see it reaching theatres sometime this fall (we had previously heard that it would be out this summer, but it apparently shifted back a little bit). Smith is currently putting the finishing touches on the film in post-production, and has taken to social media to share a look at the color timing. You can check out the images on Instagram or Facebook.

Smith wrote, “What a difference a little color can make! My new flick that Saban Films is releasing this fall is set in 1986 and titled THE 4:30 MOVIE. So while color timing the film, our cinematographer Yaron Levy was able to dial up the warmth to give the picture the halcyon glow of the 80s!

Set in the summer of 1986, this one is a coming-of-age comedy that follows three sixteen-year-old friends who spend their Saturdays sneaking into movies at the local multiplex. But when one of the guys also invites the girl of his dreams to see the latest comedy, each of the teens will learn something serious about life and love before the credits roll.

Austin Zajur (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark), Nicholas Cirillo (Outer Banks), and Reed Northrup (High Maintenance) play the sixteen year old friends, with Siena Agudong (Resident Evil) as the dream girl. Ken Jeong (The Hangover), Sam Richardson (Veep), Genesis Rodriguez (Tusk), Justin Long (Barbarian), Jason Lee (Almost Famous), Rachel Dratch (I Love My Dad), Kate Micucci (The Big Bang Theory), Adam Pally (Sonic the Hedgehog), Harley Quinn Smith (Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood), and Method Man (Power Book II: Ghost) are also in the cast.

The 4:30 Movie was filmed at Smodcastle Cinemas in New Jersey, a theatre Smith now co-owns and used to hang out in every weekend when he was a teenager. Liz Destro, Josh Bachove, and Jordan Monsanto produced, with Bill Bromiley, Shanan Becker, and Jonathan Saba executive producing.

Are you looking forward to The 4:30 Movie? Check out the color timing images, then let us know by leaving a comment below.

Matthew McConaughey wanted to quit acting during rom-com height

Matthew McConaughey wanted to quit acting during rom-com height

Matthew McConaughey considered becoming a teacher or a wildlife guide to escape starring in so many rom-coms.

There are a few different images that could come to mind when picturing Matthew McConaughey. Maybe it’s the “Alright Alright Alright” Guru. Or maybe it’s the Oscar Winner. Or maybe, at worst, maybe it’s the King of 21st-Century Rom-Coms. While the latter truly made McConaughey a household name, rom-coms also pushed him to consider leaving Hollywood altogether.

In an interview with fellow Texan Glen Powell, McConaughey said, “When I had my rom-com years, there was only so much bandwidth I could give to those, and those were some solid hits for me. But I wanted to try some other stuff. Of course I wasn’t getting it, so I had to leave Hollywood for two years.”

2009’s Ghosts of Girlfriends was just the latest in a stream of rom-coms for McConaughey, which took off in the early part of the decade when he found himself working with Jennifer Lopez (The Wedding Planner), Kate Hudson (How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Fool’s Gold) and Sarah Jessica Parker (Failure to Launch). When he came back, he started showing off much of what made him a draw in the ‘90s, giving strong and charismatic performances in movies like The Lincoln Lawyer and Bernie. Two years later, he won the Best Actor Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club.

But if he hadn’t come back after his rom-com departure, Matthew McConaughey may have considered another gig altogether. “I had long talks with my wife about needing to find a new vocation. ‘I think I’m going to teach high school classes. I think I’m going to study to be a conductor. I think I’m going to go be a wildlife guide.’ I honestly thought, ‘I stepped out of Hollywood. I got out of my lane.’ The lane Hollywood said I should stay in, and Hollywood’s like, ‘Well, f*ck you, dude. You should have stayed in your lane. Later.’” As he added, “I made up my mind that that’s what I needed to do, so I wasn’t going to pull the parachute and quit the mission I was on. But it was scary, because I didn’t know if I was ever going to get out of the desert.”

Analogies aside, Matthew McConaughey had a full reinvention following ditching rom-coms (which he has probably aged out of now anyway), working with the likes of Martin Scorsese, Christopher Nolan and Gus Van Sant, not to mention giving perhaps his finest performance to date, that of Rustin “Rust” Cohle on True Detective. His work might be less frequent but he clearly cares more about his output than ever before.

What is your favorite Matthew McConaughey performance? Give us your pick in the comments section below.

What Happened to David Letterman?

0
What Happened to David Letterman?

It’s October 2009, and Woody Harrelson has a zombie comedy to promote. But before he can do so on THE LATE SHOW, David Letterman has something to share. And so, after his monologue, Letterman took to his desk, telling those in the Ed Sullivan Theater that he had a story to share. No top 10 lists. No stupid pet tricks. No visits with Rupert Jee at the Hello Deli. For 10 minutes, Letterman laid it out. One morning, he woke up to find an envelope in the back seat of his car, and in it was proof that he had been having affairs with members of his female staff. This was as raw and stripped as David Letterman had ever allowed himself to be in decades on late-night television. And it wasn’t Jay Leno or Les Moonves or any of his foes that caused it. It was David Letterman himself. But did this destroy his career and reputation? Was he able to bounce back?

There are more than 10 reasons we chose our subject this week…So let’s find out: WTF Happened to…DAVID LETTERMAN?

But to truly understand what the fuck happened to David Letterman, we go back to the beginning. The beginning began when he was born on April 12th, 1947, in Indianapolis, Indiana, most notably born to Dorothy, a frequent staple around Mother’s Day and Thanksgiving of his later programs.

Letterman proudly attended Ball State University, taking to communications…and quickly being fired from the public radio station, a touch too radical for their taste. But Letterman would press on, earning a spot as an Indiana weatherman…with an unorthodox approach, once congratulating a tropical storm on being upgraded to a hurricane. He would also serve as host of a children’s show and a late-night movie showcase, wherein he took to blowing up replicas of the station building. As he built his reputation in small venues such as this, David Letterman was making a play for stardom.

And so off to Los Angeles he went (the Indiana entertainment industry isn’t exactly booming), doing standup at the famed Comedy Store and failing an audition for Ted Striker in AIRPLANE!, which he admitted was for the better. But these – and MORK & MINDY one-offs – wouldn’t suffice; fortunately, he soon made his first appearance on THE TONIGHT SHOW in 1978, with legendary host Johnny Carson taking to the irreverent wit immediately. Letterman would go on to appear and serve as guest host dozens of times throughout the 1980s. And it was Carson’s home station, NBC, that snagged Dave, giving him a morning slot with THE DAVID LETTERMAN SHOW in 1980. It would only last five months but it nabbed him a pair of Emmys.

David Letterman

In 1982, Letterman earned LATE NIGHT WITH DAVID LETTERMAN for NBC back in New York, positioning himself as “the rightful successor” to Carson over the course of nearly 2,000 episodes. It was here that Letterman perfected his style, packed with snark, stunts and schtick, delivering nightly Top 10 lists, frequent Stupid Pet/Human tricks and occasional bits with the Monkey Cam (yes, a camera strapped to a monkey’s head), suits covered in Alka-Seltzer/Velcro/magnets, and whatever other surreal material he wanted on the air. One major segment came in its debut year, when absurdist performance artist Andy Kaufman was slapped by pro wrestler Jerry Lawler, an immediate highlight reel moment which blurred the lines of not only fact and fiction but the limits of television. There was an undeniable artistry to it all. This wasn’t your father’s late-night show – it was your stoner roommate’s. And for it, he was passed over.

In 1992, after much turmoil behind the scenes and with Johnny Carson retiring, THE TONIGHT SHOW was given to Jay Leno – despite Carson naming Letterman “the rightful successor” to the late-night show (he would even send Letterman jokes for his monologue later on, showing where his loyalty always was). Instead, Letterman headed for CBS at the Ed Sullivan Theater, landing THE LATE SHOW and further making his mark on the late-night scene, transforming it for a new generation.

For its run, THE LATE SHOW – and Letterman – were in direct and constant competition with THE TONIGHT SHOW and Leno, with the Chin always edging out his late-night nemesis in the ratings. But Letterman’s popularity persisted, proving to be the true underdog of the format. While the American public as a whole preferred Jay, the industry – and a certain cult following – seemed to have more respect for Dave, and in 1994, he and his show won their first Emmy for Outstanding Variety Series, beating Leno to the punch. THE LATE SHOW would go on to win six total, the most of any traditional late-night talk show in history. But the bitter resentment – as overblown as it would become (how many feuds become fodder for a TV movie?) – has evidently been squashed, with the two pairing up for a 2010 Super Bowl ad…along with Oprah Winfrey, another foil of Letterman’s.

At the height of his fame, David Letterman hosted the 67th Academy Awards in 1995 (no, CABIN BOY was not nominated, although we love Dave, aka Earl Hofert as Old Salt in Fishing Village), giving a go that many considered one of the worst attempts at hosting in the ceremony’s history (see: “Uma, Oprah. Oprah, Uma.”). He would later say, “It took me less time to get over the bypass surgery than it did to get over hosting the Academy Awards.” That surgery came in 2000, marking a dramatic turning point for Letterman, who admitted it made him more vulnerable and susceptible to erupting in tears. But his acerbic humor remained, even petitioning to have a road named the David Letterman Bypass in Indianapolis. When he returns to the LATE SHOW, he is met by Foo Fighters’ “Everlong”. They would play the same song during the show’s final episode.

In the audience for that last show, which aired on May 20th, 2015, were Letterman’s wife, Regina, and son, Harry. Loyal she was, having been the victim of an extramarital affair that had gotten so public – stemming from blackmail/extortion attempt by a CBS producer – that Letterman was forced to confront and address it on the air in 2009, admitting he had cheated, with one lover outed as assistant/intern Stephanie Birkitt, who often appeared on the show, often called by dumb nicknames for a willing intern that was now pet names for a lover. He had been outed as a scumbag and a cheat. In the aftermath, Letterman would retrospectively be criticized for his on-air treatment of women: leering, commenting on looks, and throwing a “gotcha” style that promoted gossip at the likes of Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton.

And yet, during his 10-minute monologue on October 1st, 2009 – in which he outlined the scope of the blackmail plot and confirmed he had affairs with employees – the live audience met him in the middle with applause and laughter. It was as if it was no surprise, just par for the course for Letterman, late-night television’s underdog. (The Birkitt scandal had just been the latest controversy surrounding Letterman, who had had numerous run-ins with stalkers, one even committing suicide in 1998. Letterman – and his son Harry, born in 2003 when his old man was 56 – was also part of an attempted kidnapping plot in 2005.)

It was a storied career on late-night TV indeed, filled with highlights and lowlights at his desk, with career-defining moments that hit every spectrum of the medium: Madonna cursing at him, Crispin Glover nearly kicking his head off, Drew Barrymore flashing him for his birthday, cornering/humiliating fragile female celebs, giving Michael Richards the chance to apologize (a failure), mocking Sarah Palin’s daughter for her teenage pregnancy, welcoming American audiences back after 9/11, letting us in on her fragilities, and so much more. But after 6,000 episodes, THE LATE SHOW was done. But David Letterman was not. His fans knew he wouldn’t really retire and hole up in a Montana cabin. And by 2018, he was signed with Netflix, launching MY NEXT GUEST NEEDS NO INTRODUCTION, interviewing everybody from Kim Kardashian to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky. It’s the perfect transition for David Letterman. He had matured; it was all still there – the humor, the curiosity, the honesty – but the playing field was different.

So, too, was late-night television. Consider the following names: Fallon, Kimmel, Corden, Meyers, Colbert (his successor) – none of them have what Letterman did. Who cares about doing karaoke with your guests, or what does the internet tweet about them? Or lip-sync battles? Late-night television is just so safe now, so obsessed with the viral moment, so afraid to flip the bird to the network or call out the suit in charge. When David Letterman “retired”, he took with him the late-night renegade.

We think of one of David Letterman’s finest interviews and one of the greatest displays of his humanity: that with Warren Zevon, in which the musician, less than one year from death, offered the following advice: “Enjoy every sandwich.” And might we add: Toss every object in sight off the fucking roof. How fitting as a literal and metaphorical embodiment of everything David Letterman was at his peak.

Frasier reunites with his KACL peers in new BTS photos for season 2

Frasier reunites with his KACL peers in new BTS photos for season 2

The Good Doctor may be off the air, but his old radio cohorts are not far behind as the second season brings over some familiar faces.

As the second season of the Frasier revival gears up at Paramount+, fans anticipate the return of old favorites from either the Cheers or the original Frasier era. Kelsey Grammer himself expressed eagerness to reunite with his past co-stars, saying how much he would love to bring back names like Ted Danson, Shelley Long, David Hyde Pierce and Jane Leeves. He stated, “It’s just a matter of willingness to be on the show. And if there’s a good story. I’d still love to have Shelley come back and play Diane, for one more sense of closure for Frasier. Because now that he’s back in Boston, there are things that will come up, and I think that she would be one of them. And Ted, we have a few ideas for that.”

Collider has now unveiled new behind-the-scenes photos that showcase the return of Frasier’s former co-workers from KACL — his talk radio station from Seattle. Peri Gilpin made a brief appearance in the season finale of the Frasier revival, now she returns as Roz Doyle and her daughter, Alice, will also make an appearance. Alice is set to be portrayed by Grammer’s own daughter, Greer. Dan Butler and Edward Hibbert are also on board to reprise their roles as sportscaster Bulldog Briscoe and food critic Gil Chesterton. The nature of the reunion has not been revealed. However, you can get a peek at the returning cast below.

Grammer, who serves as an executive producer on the series, made a statement about bringing back these popular characters from the original spin-off, “Dan Butler and Edward Hibbert have made an indelible contribution to television, and I am overjoyed to welcome them back to Frasier and for the opportunity to work together once again.”

Grammer himself didn’t have the willingness to return to Fraiser for various reasons. The original NBC show carried so much weight, especially now that John Mahoney, who played Frasier’s dad Martin, is no longer with us. However, when it was determined that Grammer could balance a schedule for a “streaming-sized order” of a season, he had greatly reconsidered. Plus, his performing in front of a live studio audience again would give him a new energy. He states, “As they load the audience in to watch a taping when we start, I say, ‘I’d like to welcome you to church. This is where the things I believe in get flushed out — where we get to laugh and cry together and enhance our human experience together.’ That’s a pretty great thing to get to do.”

Trigger Warning interview: Jessica Alba on the Netflix action thriller

We interview Jessica Alba about her new action thriller Trigger Warning, which is now streaming on Netflix

After a five year absence from the world of feature films, Jessica Alba (who did star in the 26 episodes of the Bad Boys spin-off TV series L.A.’s Finest a few years back) has returned with the action thriller Trigger Warning, which was just released through the Netflix streaming service today. To mark the occasion, JoBlo’s own Kyanna Mondezie had the chance to sit down for an interview with Alba, and you can check it out in the embed above!

Trigger Warning has the following synopsis: Special Forces commando Parker (Jessica Alba) is on active duty overseas when she gets called back to her hometown with the tragic news that her father has suddenly died. Now the owner of the family bar, Parker reconnects with her former boyfriend-turned-sheriff Jesse (Mark Webber), his hot-tempered brother Elvis (Jake Weary) and their powerful father Senator Swann (Anthony Michael Hall), as she looks to understand what actually happened to her dad. Parker’s search for answers quickly goes south, and she soon finds herself at odds with a violent gang running rampant in her hometown. Unsure of who she can truly trust, Parker draws on her commando training and proves herself a force to be reckoned with as she hunts down the truth and attempts to right what has gone wrong in Swann County with the help of her covert ops partner and hacker Spider (Tone Bell) and connected local dealer Mike (Gabriel Basso).

Mouly Surya, who previously directed the Indonesian films Fiksi., What They Don’t Talk About When They Talk About Love, and Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts, was at the helm of Trigger Warning, working from a screenplay by John Brancato (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines), Josh Olson (A History of Violence), and Halley Wegryn Gross (Westworld). Esther Hornstein, Basil Iwanyk, and Erica Lee produced the film, while Alba, Brancato, and Olson served as executive producers alongside Jason Clark, Jonathan Fuhrman, and Daniel Jason Heffner.

The Devil’s Bath Review

The Devil’s Bath Review

Review: Disturbing subject matter will make The Devil’s Bath a tough watch, but those willing to endure are treated to a harrowing journey.

PLOT: Austria in the 18th century. Forests surround villages. Killing a baby gets a woman sentenced to death. Agnes readies for married life with her beloved. But her mind and heart grow heavy. A gloomy path alone, evil thoughts arising.

REVIEW: Depression has been the backbone of many films for some time now. Whether it’s Midsommar and depression caused by loss, or heck even back to Jimmy Stewart in It’s A Wonderful Life, it can really shape a narrative. And it’s only recently that we’ve started to become more accepting of mental health problems. Given how much human history exists, there are countless real-life events that highlight just how primitive we as humans can be. The Devil’s Bath does its job to highlight a time in Austrian history that most would rather forget.

Inspired by a historian on This American Life, The Devil’s Bath follows a woman named Agnes, who has recently married her beloved. But after her life becomes chores and unrealistic expectations with no release, she begins to question her life. Deeply religious, the idea of suicide was a faraway thought because of its damnation of the person’s soul. So in order to thwart that, depressed women would murder someone, usually a child, in order to be properly executed. Thus avoiding suicide and therefore avoiding eternal damnation. You can imagine where this story would get incredibly dark and uncomfortable.

The Devil's Bath review

Suicide by proxy is a terrifying notion but the idea of targeting poor defenseless children is enough to make anyone squeamish. It hits you with such intense imagery that it thankfully gives you subsequent moments to catch your breath. As per the era, the pacing is on the slower side but the narrative helps to keep some energy by really focusing on Anja Plaschg’s Agnes. I was shocked to learn that Anja isn’t an actress and is usually a musician because she is so impressive here. She brings such pathos to every small moment and really makes you feel her pain with just a look. Her descent into madness is wholly believable and never goes absurd.

There’s a moment so shocking that it left my mouth agape for a solid 30 seconds. That’s precisely what you need for a story like this, as those intense moments help to add a sense of uncertainty to every proceeding moment. And it doesn’t stop there, with some truly skin-crawling events that will stick with you. If you’re an animal lover then you’re going to have a rough go of it. A goat is drained of its blood and it’s all done on camera. Complete with full-blown skinning, it’s certainly not for the faint of heart. The subject matter is some of the darkest imaginable and not for the squeamish. Focusing on real-life events, it’s tough knowing that all of this happened in some form or another.

The Devil's Bath review

It’s easy to appreciate how expertly done the effects work manages to be. Avoiding CGI, this really does feel like a glimpse into the 18th Century. Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala have already impressed in their careers with Goodnight, Mommy, and The Lodge but this feels like they’ve evolved. Creating a piece of art that transcends language and time is no easy feat and yet they pull it off succinctly. I can’t imagine The Devil’s Bath being a film people revisit often, because all it takes is one viewing and it’ll stick with you long after the credits roll.

THE DEVIL’S BATH IS STREAMING ON SHUDDER ON JUNE 28TH, 2024.

Review: Disturbing subject matter will make The Devil's Bath a tough watch, but those willing to endure are treated to a harrowing journey.

Sam Neill to star alongside Eric Bana in Netflix’s upcoming mystery-thriller Untamed

Jurassic Park and Apples Never Fall alum Sam Neill joins Eric Bana for the Yosemite National Park mystery-thriller series Untamed.

Sam Neill (Jurassic Park, In the Mouth of Madness, Event Horizon) is joining Eric Bana (Deliver Us From Evil, The Dry, Hulk) for Netflix‘s upcoming limited series Untamed. The limited series project hails from Warner Bros. Television and studio-based John Wells Productions, described by Deadline as a character-driven mystery-thriller.

Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith wrote Untamed, which “follows Kyle Turner (Bana), a special agent for the National Parks Service who works to enforce human law in nature’s vast wilderness. The investigation of a brutal death sends Inman on a collision course with the dark secrets within the park, and in his own past.”

Sam Neill walks onto Untamed for the part of Paul Souter, a chief park ranger in Yosemite who’s spent most of his life patrolling the treasured national park. Paul is a faithful husband, father, grandfather, and friend to Kyle Turner. He is fearless in getting his hands dirty when it comes to upholding the park’s integrity, whether the responsibility involves investigating crime inside the park or butting through the red tape to keep the grounds functioning correctly.

In addition to penning the limited series, Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith co-showrun and executive produce the project alongside Bana, John Wells Productions’ John Wells and Erin Jontow, Todd Black and Tony Shaw via Escape Artists Entertainment, Steve Lee Jones of Bee Holder Productions, and Cliff Roberts courtesy of Syndicate Entertainment.

Neill recently starred as Stan Delaney for Peacock’s mini-series Apples Never Fall. The episodic mystery-drama focuses on the Delaney family, who appear as a picture-perfect family, but when Joy (Annette Bening) disappears, Stan and his four children must take a hard look at their family history to unravel a tragedy. Neill also stars as Brett Colby QC in the Foxtel original series The Twelve. In The Twelve, a jury of twelve ordinary people brings their histories into a complex trial, bringing fractured dreams, shameful secrets, hope, fears, personal trauma, and prejudice to the proceedings.

Have you ever visited Yosemite National Park? If so, please let us know in the comments section below. We’ll report more details about Untamed as the project develops.

Shudder and IFC Films team with Severin Films for 11 special edition physical media releases

Shudder, IFC Films, and Severin Films are teaming for special edition physical media releases of 11 horror movies

The Shudder streaming service and IFC Films, both of which are owned by AMC Networks, have secured a deal with boutique Blu-ray and DVD label Severin Films to put together eleven special edition physical media releases of some of the most popular Originals and licensed features in the Shudder and IFC Films library, Variety reports.

The announcement even reveals the titles of six of the eleven movies that will be receiving special edition physical media releases thanks to this deal: Joko Anwar’s 2017 horror mystery Satan’s Slaves (which was a remake of a 1980 film); Brandon Cronenberg’s 2012 feature directorial debut, the sci-fi horror film Antiviral; the 2015 Turkish horror film Baskin, directed by Can Evrenol; Franck Khalfoun’s 2012 POV remake of the 1980 slasher classic Maniac; Douglas Buck’s 2006 remake of the 1972 Brian De Palma thriller Sisters; and André Øvredal’s 2016 horror thriller The Autopsy of Jane Doe.

Sisworo Gautama Putra, Naryono Prayitno, Subagio S., and Imam Tantowi wrote the original Satan’s Slaves. Anwar’s take on the concept has this synopsis: After dying from a strange illness that she suffered for 3 years, a mother returns home to pick up her children. It stars Tara Basro and Bront Palarae.

Here’s the story Cronenberg crafted for Antiviral: In a blackly satirical near future, a thriving industry sells celebrity illnesses to their obsessed fans. Employee Syd March’s attempts to exploit the system backfire when they involve him in a potentially deadly mystery. Caleb Landry Jones, Sarah Gadon, and Malcolm McDowell star.

Evrenol wrote Baskin with Ogulcan Eren Akay, Ercin Sadikoglu, and Cem Özüduru. The synopsis: A squad of unsuspecting cops go through a trapdoor to Hell when they stumble upon a Black Mass in an abandoned building. Mehmet Cerrahoglu, Görkem Kasal, and Ergun Kuyucu lead the cast.

Alexandre Aja and Grégory Levasseur reworked Joe Spinell’s Maniac story for the Khalfoun film. As he helps a young artist with her upcoming exhibition, the owner of a mannequin shop’s deadly, suppressed desires come to the surface. This time around Elijah Wood played the maniac.

Buck wrote the Sisters remake with John Freitas, working from the original idea by De Palma and Louisa Rose. The story: A reporter witnesses a brutal murder and becomes entangled in a mystery involving a pair of Siamese twins who were separated at birth, one of them forced to live under the eye of a watchful, controlling psychiatrist. Chloë Sevigny and Stephen Rea star.

Scripted by Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing, The Autopsy of Jane Doe is about a father and son, both coroners, who are pulled into a complex mystery while attempting to identify the cause of death of a young woman who was apparently harboring dark secrets. Brian Cox, Emile Hirsch, and Olwen Kelly star.

Variety lets us know that this physical media deal was brokered by Severin Film’s co-founder-CEO David Gregory, Shudder’s Vice President of Programming Sam Zimmerman, and AMC Networks Director of Content Sales Lucas Verga.

Zimmerman provided the following statement: “The work done at Severin Films is astounding. They are directly responsible for some of the greatest home video releases ever and seeing a selection of our Shudder and IFC Films gems get the treatment is a delight.

Are you excited to hear that Satan’s Slaves, Antiviral, Baskin, Maniac, Sisters, and The Autopsy of Jane Doe are getting special edition physical media releases as part of this deal between Shudder, IFC Films, and Severin Films? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’s 50th anniversary celebrated by Dark Sky Films with poster, hats, shirts

Dark Sky Films is selling a poster and a new line of hats and shirts to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Fifty-one years ago, director Tobe Hooper and his cast and crew spent a blisteringly hot Texas summer working to bring us one of the greatest horror films ever made, the 1974 classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (watch it HERE)… and to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the release of the film, Dark Sky Films has unveiled a new poster, along with a line of hats and shirts! You can see images of these items at the bottom of this article, and can make a purchase at THIS LINK.

It should be noted that if you want a copy of the poster, you’ll need to grab it fast. It’s a very limited edition, with only 200 being printed. The poster is going for the price of $35, while the hats and shirts are $30 each.

Directed by Hooper from a script he wrote with Kim Henkel, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has the following synopsis: When Sally hears that her grandfather’s grave may have been vandalized, she and her paraplegic brother, Franklin, set out with their friends to investigate. After a detour to their family’s old farmhouse, they discover a group of crazed, murderous outcasts living next door. As the group is attacked one by one by the chainsaw-wielding Leatherface, who wears a mask of human skin, the survivors must do everything they can to escape.

The film stars Marilyn Burns, Paul A. Partain, Jim Siedow, Edwin Neal, William Vail, Teri McMinn, Allen Danziger, John Dugan, and Gunnar Hansen.

Legendary drive-in critic Joe Bob Briggs, who counts The Texas Chainsaw Massacre as his favorite movie, recently revealed that he’s celebrating the 50th anniversary of the film by writing a book about the making of it for Dark Horse. Joe Bob is aiming to make that “the definitive ‘Making of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre‘ book.”
