A Quiet Place: Day One filmmaker featurette looks at what director Michael Sarnoski brings to the franchise

Paramount has unveiled a filmmaker featurette to discuss what director Michael Sarnoski brought to A Quiet Place: Day One

The sci-fi horror A Quiet Place franchise is heading to New York with its latest entry, A Quiet Place: Day One, which is set to reach theatres on June 28th – and with that release date just one week away, we’ve gotten our hands on a filmmaker featurette that takes a look at what director Michael Sarnoski, who earned a lot of positive attention with his feature directorial debut Pig (watch it HERE) a few years ago, brings to the Quiet Place franchise that was created by John Krasinski, the director of A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place: Part II. You can check it out in the embed above.

The story of A Quiet Place: Day One, which is credited to Krasinski and Sarnoski, does take place in the same world established in the first two movies, but doesn’t involve the Abbott family, the characters we followed through the first two movies. Deadline’s sources said that after seeing Pig and being blown away by the film, Krasinski was quick to put Sarnoski on the short list of directors to take a meeting for the project. While insiders say Sarnoski’s vision for the film was still his own and different from what Krasinski had done with the first two, he still gave a pitch that fit the tone of the world they had created and felt he was the perfect fit for their next installment.

Krasinski is producing A Quiet Place: Day One under his Sunday Night banner, while Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller produce through their company Platinum Dunes. Krasinski’s Sunday Night partner Allyson Seeger serves as executive producer.

The film stars 12 Years a Slave Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, Alex Wolff of Hereditary and Pig, and Joseph Quinn, who is better known as Eddie Munson from the most recent season of Stranger Things. Djimon Hounsou, who played “Man on Island” in A Quiet Place: Part II, reprises that role here.

Here’s the official synopsis: Experience the day the world went quiet.

Will you be watching A Quiet Place: Day One on the big screen next weekend? Take a look at the filmmaker featurette, then let us know by leaving a comment below.

Ben Affleck reacts to viral paparazzi pics

Ben Affleck reacts to viral paparazzi pics

Ben Affleck claims those paparazzi photos show him with what he calls “resting hard face”, a reaction to constantly being hounded.

The paparazzi is a truly invasive breed, hitting stars when they’re at their most vulnerable or going about their life as normally as possible or when they’re carrying Dunkin’ iced coffee in about the most reckless way possible. The series that these hounds have taken of Ben Affleck over the years has hit all of these and more, with the latest — Affleck looking downright miserable — being some of the most meme-worthy to ever be snapped. And not that he needs to rationalize why he might look grumpy when a stranger is taking his picture for profit, but Ben Affleck has his reasons.

Appearing on Kevin Hart’s Hart to Heart (via EW), Ben Affleck confirmed that he has “resting hard face”, some sort of male version of RBF. He added, “I’m also a little bit shy. I also don’t like a lot of attention. That’s why people see me and they’re like, ‘Why’s this dude always mad?’ Because somebody has their camera and sticks it in my face and I’m like, ‘Okay, here we go.’” So he’s not mad, it’s that “people are projecting something onto me that I don’t feel about myself at all.”

As much as we can expect more or less the same look from Ben Affleck every time, those singular frames don’t necessarily dictate who that person is at any given moment. It’s a quick look or gesture that might be part of a reaction – whether planned or not – but doesn’t encapsulate everything. Yet, you can look at any snap of the star and pretty much nail that the headline will be something along the lines of: “Ben Affleck ANGRY While Handling Dunkin’ Donuts—What’s His Problem???” That’s just part of the paparazzi’s game, however despicable it is.

We’ve seen this sort of behavior from the paparazzi since the term was coined in the 1960s. And while celebs on the street will always get cameras going, there has been major outcry as of late as to how they are treated within their own private lives. When candid pictures of Jack Nicholson leaked, a field day was had over how he looked…at 85…in the comfort of his own home…Thankfully people who have some decency came to his defense, insisting the paparazzi and internet trolls back off.

What do you think the role of paparazzi is in 2024? Is our constant use of cell phones part of the problem? Give us your thoughts!

Look, Teddy! A Mr. Bean network is coming to live-streaming television

Look, Teddy! A Mr. Bean network is coming to live-streaming television

In an age of streaming wars that also compete with traditional television (which in itself is streamed through internet companies), in the middle, you have the live-streaming television apps — like PlutoTV, Plex, TubiTV, Roku Channel and Freevee — that simulate broadcast television with scheduled programmings of previously released content. These apps are free, but the catch is that they are ad-supported, which brings us full circle back to traditional television. Even further down the line, smart TVs feature their own list of streaming stations on default. These stations usually feature channels that are dedicated to a singular subject of content.

Deadline is now reporting that Distributor Banijay Rights will be unveiling a channel dedicated to Mr. Bean, the often-silent physical comedy character from British actor Rowan Atkinson. The Mr. Bean Channel is set to be available across 29 territories on Samsung TV Plus, LG, Plex, Rakuten TV and TCL. The network will be showcasing episodes of the Mr Bean: The Animated Series, which is produced by Banijay’s Tiger Aspect Kids & Family. Additionally, Mr Bean: The Animated Series was recently said to have been commissioned for a fourth 52-episode season alongside deals with Warner Bros. Discovery and ITVX.

Shaun Keeble, who is a VP of Digital for Banijay Rights stated, Mr Bean’s global image has known no bounds over the last 30-plus years so to expand this iconic brand into the FAST (free ad-supported streaming television) arena – and grow the animated series’ presence ever further – is an exciting moment for us at Banijay Rights.”

Years ago, Atkinson shared how he prefers to do the character in animated form rather than in live-action, “It’s easier for me to perform the character vocally than visually,” he said. “I don’t much enjoy playing him. The weight of responsibility is not pleasant. I find it stressful and exhausting and I look forward to the end of it.”

We Had a Blast at the Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F Premiere!

We got to attend the world premiere of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F in Los Angeles, right across from the Beverly Hills police department!

A long-time dream of mine came true last night, as I got to attend the world premiere of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley in the most appropriate place of all: Beverly Hills! Indeed, the movie’s premiere took place right across the street from the iconic Beverly Hills police department featured in all three films. We’ll be back with our review of the movie when the embargo breaks closer to the July 3rd release date, but I thought readers might like to take a look at some photos from the event, which had activations and celebrity guests galore.

Axel Foley’s famous Chevy Nova
A rival action franchise star showed up to support Eddie – Bad Boys’ Martin Lawrence!
Our EIC and Serge himself, Bronson Pinchot!

Streaming numbers for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F expected to be high, could we see a fifth Beverly Hills Cop? If it does as well as many are expecting, the 63-year-old Eddie Murphy doesn’t exactly have the 30-year gap that he did between Beverly Hills Cop 3 and Axel F. Instead, he’s ready to take the banana out of the tailpipe and step on it. In the potential for a fifth entry, Murphy stated, “I hope [there is one] because this movie turned out so good, especially if you grew up watching the movie, then you’ll really, really love this new picture.”

Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long now, as Axel F is headed to Netflix on July 3rd. Really, though, it is too bad that Axel F won’t be hitting theaters, as it seems to be just the sort of nostalgia jolt that could benefit from that kind of audience. That it comes out just a few weeks after the latest Bad Boys movie — which has pulled in $120 million domestically — offers timing that could have been just the strategy that likely would have paid off at the cinema.

As for what we can expect plot-wise: “Detective Axel Foley (Murphy) is back on the beat in Beverly Hills. After his daughter Jane’s (Taylour Paige) life is threatened, she and Foley team up with a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and old pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and Taggart (John Ashton) to turn up the heat and uncover a conspiracy.”

Are you excited to see Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F? How do you think it will stack up to the rest of the series? Give us your thoughts in the comments section below!

New Study Finds ZetrOZ Systems’ Sustained Acoustic Medicine Technology Effectively Treats Chronic Low Back Pain

New Study Finds ZetrOZ Systems’ Sustained Acoustic Medicine Technology Effectively Treats Chronic Low Back Pain
Study shows treatment with low-intensity, continuous ultrasound reduced patients’ pain and need for pain medication.

Nearly one out of four Americans (23.3%) suffer from chronic low back pain. A new study finds that low-intensity continuous ultrasound, such as ZetrOZ Systems’sustained acoustic medicine (sam®) technology, alleviates the symptoms of chronic lower back pain and reduces the need for pain medication.

The study, presented at last month’s 2024 Annual Meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine, examined the effect of low-intensity continuous ultrasound on chronic low back pain and how it can alleviate symptoms of chronic low back pain (CLBP) during a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.

The researchers1 found that having daily low-intensity continuous ultrasound (LICUS) treatment significantly eases clinical symptoms of chronic lower back pain compared to placebo treatment. LICUS is considered a safe and non-invasive therapeutic option for patients with CLBP.

“We’re pleased to see another study affirming how our sam® wearable ultrasound unit accelerates tissue healing and relieves pain, especially for people who suffer from low back pain,” George K. Lewis, Ph.D., founder and CEO of ZetrOZ Systems. “Our sam® devices have a proven track record of treating soft tissue injury successfully and helping people feel less pain and be more active.”

The study included 65 patients (26 men, 39 women, average age 47) who had been suffering from CBLP for over three months. They were assigned to a LICUS or placebo treatment with baseline pain levels and medication usage recorded over two weeks before treatment.

Participants underwent a daily four-hour lower lumbar region treatment with either active or placebo treatment for eight weeks. They maintained daily diaries and reported biweekly pain levels on the numeric rating scale (NRS), global rating of change (GROC), medication reduction, physical activity, and functionality.

The LICUS-treated group demonstrated significant reductions in pain levels (2.30-3.15 NRS scale) at specific intervals over eight weeks over the placebo method. The pain reduction was considerable in the first two weeks and decreased gradually over the next six weeks. After eight weeks, the LICUS-treated group had a reduction of 2.57 points on the NRS scale and a 3.48 GROC score improvement with a much lower difference of 22.5% in daily medication use of morphine (15.2 mg equivalent dosage).

The researchers concluded: “Daily LICUS treatment significantly alleviates clinical symptoms of CLBP relative to placebo treatment. LICUS is a safe and non-invasive therapeutic option for patients with CLBP.”

The new study is the latest body of research documenting the effectiveness of ZetrOZ's sustained acoustic medicine technology in treating these types of conditions, documented in 42 peer-reviewed publications and 20 Level 1-5 clinical studies and thousands of patients treated with sam® every day. The sam® line of devices is cleared by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration for treating conditions such as knee osteoarthritis, patellar and shoulder tendinopathy, and chronic back pain.

Mann Eye Institute Unveils State-of-the-Art Office-Based Surgery Center in Austin

Mann Eye Institute announces the grand opening of its office-based surgery center, Mann Austin Surgery Center, at 4314 W. Braker Lane, Suite #215, Austin, TX 78759. This innovative facility, within the newly remodeled Austin North Clinic, marks a significant advancement in ophthalmic care for Austin.

The Mann Austin Surgery Center introduces a revolutionary approach to eye surgeries by bringing advanced procedures directly into the clinic setting. This office-based model allows patients to undergo cataract removal, refractive lens replacement, and pterygium excision in a familiar environment, eliminating the need for hospital or ambulatory surgery center visits.

Dr. David Tremblay and Dr. Ashley Brundrett will be the primary surgeons, with Dr. Paul Mann also occasionally performing procedures. These experienced ophthalmologists will utilize state-of-the-art equipment to provide exceptional care and optimal outcomes.

"Our office-based surgery center represents a paradigm shift in ophthalmic care," said Dr. Tremblay. "By performing procedures in-house, we offer patients a more personalized, efficient, and cost-effective experience without compromising quality."

The center enhances patient comfort and streamlines the surgical process, reducing preoperative anxiety and allowing for flexible scheduling and shorter wait times. Patients can expect the same high-quality care they trust from Mann Eye Institute, now in a more convenient setting.

Dr. Brundrett added, "We're excited to offer this innovative solution. The office-based model provides continuity of care from initial consultation through surgery and follow-up, all under one roof."

The center's opening marks a milestone in Mann Eye Institute's commitment to cutting-edge eye care. By integrating surgical services into the clinic, the institute aims to improve patient experience while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards.

Alexandra Pack, Administrator for Austin North, shared: "Office-based cataract surgery has transformed ophthalmic care, benefiting patients, staff, efficiency, and overall care. The streamlined process leads to improved patient satisfaction and outcomes."

The Mann Austin Surgery Center is now accepting patients for consultations and procedures. Those interested can contact Mann Eye Institute directly.

This office-based model offers several advantages over traditional settings. Patients often feel more at ease in the familiar environment, reducing anxiety before and during procedures. The streamlined process typically results in shorter appointment times, allowing patients to return to daily activities more quickly.

Medically, the office-based setting allows for greater continuity of care. The same team handles consultation, surgery, and follow-up, ensuring a seamless experience. This approach also facilitates better communication among the medical team, potentially improving outcomes and patient satisfaction.

About Mann Eye Institute: Mann Eye Institute has been a leader in eye care for over 40 years, providing comprehensive services from routine exams to advanced surgical procedures. With the addition of the Mann Austin Surgery Center, the institute continues its tradition of innovation and excellence. The institute's commitment to cutting-edge technologies and techniques ensures patients receive the most advanced and effective treatments in ophthalmology.
