Next Gen Diagnostics CEO Paul Rhodes Announces That Dr. Linoj Samuel Has Joined NGD’s Scientific Advisory Board

Next Gen Diagnostics announces that Dr. Linoj Samuel, Division Head of the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory for Henry Ford Health in Detroit Michigan, has joined NGD’s Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Samuel, a national leader in defining best practices for integration of clinical microbiology results to optimally benefit patient care and hospital function, is also the current Chair of the American Society for Microbiology Clinical Microbiology and Public Health Committee.

“For years Linoj has been a valued partner in the development of clinical technologies, and it is a pleasure to welcome him to NGD’s Scientific Advisory Board,” said Dr. Paul A. Rhodes, NGD’s founder and CEO. “As we bring automated WGS and bioinformatic results into clinical evaluation and use, Linoj’s deeply considered and experience-informed insights and guidance into what is needed and what is possible will be uniquely valuable.”

NGD has developed some of the most accurate systems for the determination of resistance in Gram negative bacteria from WGS, including resistance to the clinically important drug cefepime in E. coli, with accuracy higher than that of the in vitro methods that comprise the current standard of care as recently validated by Humphries et al in the Journal of Clinical Microbiology (1). NGD has also recently, in partnership with Vanderbilt (2), demonstrated the use of WGS to detect transmission in a neonatal intensive care ward, adding to the growing literature confirming that prospective WGS is a powerful tool to detect transmission and assist infection control teams in curtailing it.

“It is increasingly clear that WGS is going to be central to clinical infectious disease practice as well as to hospital infection prevention, and NGD is one of the leaders of this transformation,” said Dr. Samuel. “I welcome the opportunity to contribute clinical and operational perspective and experience to NGD’s development of services that leverage the automation of sequencing and bioinformatics to enable practical applications of bacterial WGS in a hospital setting.”

Whoopi Goldberg gets back in the habit by reuniting the Sister Act 2 cast for a performance of ‘Oh Happy Day’ and ‘Joyful, Joyful’

Whoopi Goldberg gets back in the habit by reuniting the Sister Act 2 cast for a performance of ‘Oh Happy Day’ and ‘Joyful, Joyful’

Whoopi Goldberg reprises her role as Sister Mary Clarence alongside cast members for a musical Sister Act 2 reunion.

No, Whoopi Goldberg hasn’t left The View to pursue life as a nun. It’s the 30th anniversary of Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, and Goldberg shared something special with The View audience members by reuniting adult and kid cast members of the musical sequel’s ensemble for a spirited performance. For the musical number, Goldberg dressed in full nun attire, reprising her iconic role as Sister Mary Clarence from the delightful crime comedy franchise. With primary members of the original cast, including Kathy Najimy and Ryan Toby, with The War and Treaty singer Tanya Trotter taking the part of Lauryn Hill, the choir performed ‘Oh Happy Day’ and ‘Joyful, Joyful’ from the beloved film. The performance brought Goldberg to tears as the choir concluded their version of ‘Joyful, Joyful.’

Reuniting alongside Toby and Najimy were cast members Wendy Makkena, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Monica Calhoun, Alex Martin, David Kater, Frank Odell Howard, Dionna Nichelle, Jermaine Montell, Tanya Trotter, DeeDee Magno Hall, Ashley Thompson and Deondray Gossfield.

“Worldwide, it doesn’t matter how old you are, you are the age of those kids when you see the movie,” Goldberg said during the reunion. “You’re the age of them and you remember your time and you remember how happy you were that you didn’t have to go to Catholic school. But then you remember how sorry you are that you didn’t get to go to Catholic school and you missed out on teachers like this. So I think people just feel themselves here.”

While many joined Goldberg for the reunion, some cast members sent video messages to still participate in the fun, including Jennifer Love Hewitt, who was only 13 when she starred in Sister Act 2. Hewitt says working with Goldberg and the cast on Sister Act 2 was “one of the greatest things that ever happened to me,” a glowing compliment that Goldberg no doubt took to heart.

“I was very young, a teenager in fact. I got to work with the queen, Whoopi Goldberg. She was the kindest, coolest person to me ever,” Hewitt added. “I got to hear Lauryn Hill sing every day, just right outside the trailer or right in front of my face. All of you are the best and I’m just sending lots and lots of love. I wish that I could be with you. If you guys need me in No. 3, just call me up!”

In October 2022, Whoopi Goldberg said she wants as many people from the first two movies to return for Sister Act 3. “I want everybody,” Goldberg said. “I want as many people who want to have some fun because I really, desperately need to have some fun.”

What did you think of the Sister Act 2 reunion performance? Are you interested in a third chapter of the franchise? Let us know in the comments section below.

Sam Mendes’ Beatles movies rumored to star Barry Keoghan, Paul Mescal & more as the Fab Four

Sam Mendes’ Beatles movies rumored to star Barry Keoghan, Paul Mescal & more as the Fab Four

Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles movies is rumored to star Barry Keoghan, Paul Mescal, and more as the Fab Four.

It was announced earlier this year that Sam Mendes was undertaking an ambitious project involving one of the biggest bands in history: The Beatles. Instead of just one movie, Mendes is set to direct four movies, each telling the story from the point of view of a different member of the Beatles. Jeff Sneider has the scoop on who could play the Fab Four.

According to Sneider, the potential cast for Sam Mendes’ Beatles movies includes Harris Dickinson (The Iron Claw) as John Lennon, Paul Mescal (Gladiator II) as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) as Ringo Starr, and Charlie Rowe (Rocketman) as George Harrison. As Sneider himself states, there has been no confirmation that these actors will take on the roles at the end of the day; They’re just who Mendes is considering at the moment.

Sam Mendes’ production company, Neal Street Productions, has partnered with Sony Pictures Entertainment for the movies. It’s been said that this is the first time Apple Corps Ltd. and the members of the Beatles — Paul McCartney, Ringo Star, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison — have granted the full life story and music rights for a scripted movie.

Neal Street Production partner Pippa Harris said, “This project springs from an idea of Sam’s which he had over a year ago, and it’s a testament to his creative brilliance and powers of persuasion that Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Sean Lennon and Olivia Harrison responded with such warmth and enthusiasm as soon as he spoke with them. […] To have The Beatles’ and Apple Corps’ blessing to do this is an immense privilege. From our first meeting with Tom Rothman and Elizabeth Gabler, it was clear that they shared both our passion and ambition for this project, and we can’t think of a more perfect home than Sony Pictures.

Sony hopes to start shooting in the U.K. in mid-2025, with a planned 2027 release for all four biopics. Studio head Tom Rothman knows this is a big gamble, but said, “You have to match the boldness of the idea with a bold release strategy. There hasn’t been an enterprise like this before, and you can’t think about it in traditional releasing terms.

What do you think of this potential cast of the Beatles movies?

Barbie & Kendra Crash Joe Bob Briggs’ Drive-In Jamboree in the trailer for Full Moon production

Barbie & Kendra Crash Joe Bob Briggs’ Drive-In Jamboree in the trailer for Full Moon production

Trailer: Full Moon continues their Barbie and Kendra series with Barbie & Kendra Crash Joe Bob’s Drive-In Jamboree

I have been a fan of Charles Band’s company Full Moon since I was a kid, and I have also been a fan of drive-in critic and movie host Joe Bob Briggs since I was a kid. So it’s fun to see those worlds colliding in the trailer for an upcoming Full Moon release, the goofball comedy Barbie & Kendra Crash Joe Bob’s Drive-In Jamboree! You can check it out in the embed above. The movie will be receiving a streaming release on Full Moon Features, Amazon Prime Video, and Tubi sometime this summer.

Barbie & Kendra Crash Joe Bob’s Drive-In Jamboree is the fourth chapter in the franchise that began with Corona Zombies back at the height of the pandemic and has continued through Barbie & Kendra Save the Tiger King and Barbie & Kendra Storm Area 51. All of those movies were released in 2020, so it’s been a while since the last Barbie and Kendra adventure.

Cody Renee Cameron and Robin Sydney star in all of these movies as Barbie and Kendra. Here’s the synopsis for the new one: The bimbos are back in the fourth – and funniest – “Barbie & Kendra” adventure yet! This time, our hapless heroines head to Vegas to crash horror host Joe Bob Briggs’ annual Drive-In movie meltdown and profess their love to the trash lovin’ Texan and his sexy sidekick Darcy. But as the ladies settle in for some primo cinematic slop, they learn that a ruthless land baroness Stu Dio is planning to turn their crush’s outdoor horror movie palace into a golf course! They already survived the Corona Zombies, saved the Tiger King, and stormed Area 51. But can Barbie and Kendra save the day, win the hearts of their heroes, AND still have time to catch a crappy flick or two? Find out this summer when BARBIE & KENDRA CRASH JOE BOB’S DRIVE-IN JAMBOREE!

Cameron and Sydney are joined in the cast by Joe Bob Briggs and Diana Prince (a.k.a. Darcy the Mail Girl), with Sleepaway Camp‘s Felissa Rose taking on the role of Stu Dio. Sydney and Band were married at the end of last year, with Joe Bob officiating.

The previous Barbie and Kendra movies were built around stock footage from films like Hell of the Living Dead, Zombies vs. Strippers, Terror in the Jungle, Luana, Space Thing, and The Day Time Ended that was then dubbed over to tell new stories, and it looks like there’s going to be a stock footage element to Barbie & Kendra Crash Joe Bob’s Drive-In Jamboree as well, since there’s some old school Exorcist knock-off footage on display in the trailer.

Are you a Full Moon fan, and will you be checking out Barbie & Kendra Crash Joe Bob’s Drive-In Jamboree? Take a look at the trailer, then let us know by leaving a comment below.

SNL’s Beck Bennett joins James Gunn’s Superman as Daily Planet reporter Steve Lombard

SNL’s Beck Bennett joins James Gunn’s Superman as Daily Planet reporter Steve Lombard

Saturday Night Live’s Beck Bennett has joined the cast of James Gunn’s Superman as a Daily Planet reporter.

James Gunn’s Superman is still in the midst of production in Atlanta, and it’s been reported that Beck Bennett, best known for Saturday Night Live, has joined the cast as a “notable reporter” at the Daily Planet.

The initial reports didn’t specify exactly who Beck Bennett plays in Superman, but James Gunn confirmed on Instagram that he would play Steve Lombard, a brash and arrogant sports reporter who enjoys playing childish practical jokes on Clark Kent. A recently released photo of several Superman cast members included Bennett, who is seen with a mustache, which Lombard typically sports.

Superman stars David Corenswet (Pearl) as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Ms. Maisel) as Lois Lane. The cast also includes Nathan Fillion (The Rookie) as Guy Gardner, a charismatic and slightly obnoxious member of the Green Lantern Corps; Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi (X-Men: First Class) as Mister Terrific; Anthony Carrigan (Barry) as Metamorpho; María Gabriela de Faría (Deadly Class) as The Engineer, a member of The Authority; Sara Sampaio (At Midnight) as Eve Teschmacher; Skyler Gisondo (The Righteous Gemstones) as Jimmy Olsen; Wendell Pierce as Perry White; Neva Howell as Martha Kent; Pruitt Taylor-Vince as Jonathan Kent; and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

We got our first official look at Corenswet suited up as Superman last month, and the results were mixed, to say the least. The position Corenswet was in didn’t do the suit any favours as it looked wrinkled and bunched in the wrong places, but most fans want to see more before they pass judgment.

DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran has previously teased that Superman will not be an origin story and will focus on “Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Superman represents truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned.Superman is slated to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.

Aspen Dental: Emergency Dentistry: Quick Relief Options in Palm Coast

Aspen Dental: Emergency Dentistry: Quick Relief Options in Palm Coast

A slice of Florida paradise located on the northeast coast between St. Augustine and Daytona Beach, Palm Coast is known for its breathtaking parks and beaches. And when one is enjoying the sunny shores of Palm Coast, they likely don’t have a care in the world. But dental emergencies can happen to anyone at any time. So, whether an individual has decided to make Palm Coast their permanent home or is simply enjoying the beaches on vacation, it’s important to know what to do if a dental emergency strikes. A local Palm Coast dentist can help patients get quick relief from the following dental issues and get back to enjoying all the coastal town has to offer.

Acute injury

An acute facial injury can occur from any number of events. If something doesn’t feel quite right with one’s jaw, mouth, or teeth after an incident, it’s wise to let a dental professional take a look. A dentist can diagnose the injury, help with pain treatment, and create a plan to get the patient’s oral health back to where it was.

Broken tooth

People don’t need to have a history of dental issues to experience a broken or fractured tooth. While older adults are more prone to teeth breakage, biting into hard food like popcorn or candy can cause a broken tooth at any age. If one experiences a broken tooth, collect any pieces, if possible, and secure them in a wet paper towel or container. Then, quickly head to an emergency dentist.

The dentist will do what they can to save the tooth or, in some cases, perform a tooth filling for a minor break. More extensive breaks where the tooth can’t be saved may require a root canal and placement of a dental crown.

Tooth pain

Tooth pain may have several causes. If an individual didn’t experience an acute injury, there may be an underlying infection or something more severe. It’s especially important to seek emergency dental care if the tooth pain is accompanied by fever, chills, swelling, or difficulty swallowing.

Dental abscess

A dental abscess is a pocket of pus that typically occurs outside the tooth due to an infection. If an individual experiences building discomfort or pain, worsening breath, or fever, they may need emergency care to drain the abscess. Failure to do so could result in a more severe infection and the need for a root canal.

The bottom line

Dental emergencies can happen anywhere, even in paradise! As individuals spend time in Palm Coast, know that plenty of experienced dental professionals are ready to support them in whatever care they need. A quick trip to the dentist means they’ll be back to the beach, golf course, or park in no time.

The Last of Us season 2 will have fewer episodes than season 1 but creators tease more seasons

The Last of Us season 2 will have fewer episodes than season 1 but creators tease more seasons

The Last of Us season 2 will have fewer episodes than season 1, but creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann tease more seasons.

It’s been a long wait for The Last of Us season 2, but when the HBO series finally returns in 2025, it will have fewer episodes than the first season. Series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann told Deadline that the second season will consist of seven episodes, two less than the first season.

The story material that we got from Part II of the game is way more than the story material that was in the first game, so part of what we had to do from the start was figure out how to tell that story across seasons,” Mazin said. “When you do that, you look for natural breakpoints, and as we laid it out, this season, the national breakpoint felt like it came after seven episodes.

Some fans had wondered if The Last of Us season 2 would be the end of the series, but it doesn’t sound like it. In fact, Mazin and Druckmann have teased a “significantly larger” third season that could even lead to a fourth season.

Mazin continued: “We don’t think that we’re going to be able to tell the story even within two seasons [2 and 3] because we’re taking our time and go down interesting pathways which we did a little bit in Season 1 too. We feel like it’s almost assuredly going to be the case that — as long as people keep watching and we can keep making more television — Season 3 will be significantly larger. And indeed, the story may require Season 4.” The show hasn’t been renewed for a third (or fourth) season yet, but if the second season is as successful as the first, it’s a safe bet it will be.

Although there has been talk of a third installment of The Last of Us video game franchise, Mazin said they won’t be moving beyond the source material of the first two games. “As a fan, I’m thrilled that there might be a third Last of Us game. As the co-creator of this television show, there’s no world where I would want our show to go beyond the source material that people have in the world,” Mazin said. “Our show as people know it on HBO is going to cover the material from the second game and then quite a bit of material that is relevant to that story but, as I said, wanders down interesting new paths, unseen stories that were told within the context of that games material.
