Cheba Hut Once Again Partners With Last Prisoner Project

Cheba Hut Once Again Partners With Last Prisoner Project
As the cannabis-themed “toasted” sub-concept prepares to light up another year of slingin’ dank food and chill vibes, it’s marking the occasion by raising money for the cannabis criminal justice reform non-profit organization.

Although cannabis has come a long way since Scott Jennings, the founder of Cheba Hut, sparked up his first toaster over 26 years ago, the brand acknowledges that there is still a long road ahead towards full justice reform for the plant and its common users. Thousands of Americans are still serving extended prison sentences for previous charges of the plant, even in states where marijuana is now decriminalized.

For the third year in a row, Cheba Hut, the cannabis-themed sandwich & bar concept with more than 60+ locations spread across the U.S., is joining forces with Last Prisoner Project to help correct these cannabis-related injustices. This non-profit organization leverages legal intervention, public education, and legislative advocacy in support of one single mission: to set free every last one of the tens of thousands of people locked up for possession of marijuana.

Last Prisoner Project expressed gratitude saying, “We are lucky to have the support of countless cannabis brands, dispensaries, and outspoken individuals who constantly find new ways to help accomplish our mission of freeing every last prisoner. We are honored to continue this partnership with Cheba Hut and continue the tradition of SmokeOut InJustice Day!”

Three years ago, Cheba Hut designated their anniversary on January 20th as SmokeOut InJustice Day and could not be more thrilled to continue the tradition this year! On Saturday, January 20th, all participating Cheba Hut shops will donate $2 of every entree sold to the Last Prisoner Project. This includes both in-shop and delivery entrees.

Last year, Cheba Hut raised over $100,000 in funds for LPP, after being matched by Dutchie. This year, other brands that support LPP have teamed up with Cheba Hut to show their support. The list includes Dime Bags, Native Roots, King Palm, and Wana Brands.

Nancy Whiteman, co-founder & CEO of Wana Brands and founder of Wana Brands Foundation explains, “The Wana Brands Foundation and Wana Brands are committed to the Last Prisoners Project’s mission that no one should be incarcerated for offenses that are now legal. Our contributions alongside Cheba Hut will provide financial support for the people exiting the prison system as well as their families with the goal of breaking the cycle of continued oppression due to the incarceration of a family member. This collaboration with Cheba Hut goes beyond mere fundraising; it is an active endeavor to foster positive change in communities and advance essential social reform.”

Additionally, Wana Brands is donating $25,000 to LPP and will be onsite at certain Cheba Hut shops on 1/20/24.

Brian Loeb, Cheba Hut’s Vice President of Marketing explains, “Although SOIJ is only three years old now, the event has rooted deep into the fabric of Cheba culture through our customers and crews. SmokeOut InJustice is about giving back to the many good people peacefully fighting against outdated legal systems, while simultaneously celebrating the monumental progress that is taking place every single day. In addition to our incredible partners, we'd like to thank each and every customer who drops in Saturday, January 20th to help the Hut SmokeOut InJustice!”

Whether you order a White Widow to enjoy on your couch or grab some homies and hit up your local Cheba Hut to show support, mark your calendars for Saturday, January 20th, and SmokeOut InJustice with Cheba Hut.

SunTech Launches Vet40: A Next-Gen Surgical Vital Signs Monitor for Companion Animals
The new device offers additional features for use in both the exam room and the operating room.

The SunTech Vet40 Surgical Vital Signs Monitor for Companion Animals

This versatile surgical vital signs monitor for companion animals is ideal for both exam and operating rooms. The Vet40 enhances veterinary care with comprehensive monitoring features, including NIBP, temperature, SpO2, ECG, and optional ETCO2.

SunTech is introducing the Vet40 surgical vital signs monitor for companion animals. This new monitor will expand on the features of the clinically validated SunTech Vet BP products.

The veterinary monitor uses SunTech’s Advantage Vet blood pressure, an animal-specific algorithm, to provide accurate readings on companion animals. To better manage nervous animals, the Vet40 features extremely quiet operations, with the option to turn off or customize alarms and audible indicators.

The Vet40 is designed for measuring a patient’s vital signs in the operating room while being portable enough to be used in exam rooms or other areas. The Vet40 combines SunTech’s non-invasive blood pressure, temperature, pulse oximetry (SpO2), electrocardiogram (ECG), and optional end-tidal carbon dioxide (ETCO2) and respiratory rate capabilities for monitoring before, during, and after a procedure. The monitor is also equipped to program automatic readings at intervals during a monitoring period.

The Vet40 is both portable and rechargeable. It features a 5-inch touchscreen and the ability to connect to an external display to increase the size of the viewing screen. The monitor can retain up to 960 data points and 48 waveform traces, even when powered down. Using Bluetooth connectivity or a USB-C wired connection, data can be transferred to a reporting PC application for printing or saving reports.

SunTech will be showcasing the new Vet40 at the Veterinary Meeting & Expo (VMX) in Orlando, Florida (from January 14-17, 2024) and at the Western Veterinary Conference (WVC) in Las Vegas, Nevada (from February 19-21 2024).

The Vet40 is for use only by or on the direction of a licensed veterinarian. For more information on SunTech Medical’s full line of clinical-grade, non-invasive blood pressure products and technologies, call 1-800-421-8626 or visit www.suntechmed.com.

An exclusive invite list of over 500 people, including investors, private garage owners and local dignitaries will be on hand to witness the ribbon cutting. Confirmed speakers include Hillsborough County Commission Board Chairman Ken Hagan, Tampa Mayor Jane Castor, and Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister.

The Enclave Event Center was designed to be the premiere event venue in Tampa Bay with a capacity of 1,200 seated, and upwards of 1,800 theatre style. The venue has a multitude of event spaces perfect for small corporate retreats, team-building events for 50-300, and large-scale corporate/charity events of 1,000+ guests. The catering kitchen, the largest in the region, will be managed by Puff N’ Stuff Catering, who will provide an innovative onsite food and drink program on an exclusive basis. Event add-ons include exhilarating driving experiences for guests, putting The Motor Enclave in a class of its own.

“I wanted to create the ultimate event venue in Tampa Bay,” said Brad Oleshansky, Founder and CEO of The Motor Enclave. “We spent years preparing for this project in the midst of Covid-19 and its unpredictable supply chain hurdles. However, after nearly four years of development, we’re finally at the finish line. With our track operations already in full swing, this is the final component in creating the ultimate event venue for corporate events, team building, off-sites, board meetings, weddings, conventions, and more. We couldn’t have done this without the hard work of our design and construction teams, hundreds of skilled trades and our partners Pirelli, Morgan Automotive Group, CITY Furniture, and Puff N’ Stuff Catering.”

The First 5 Network Prioritizes Children Despite Budget Deficit

The First 5 Network Prioritizes Children Despite Budget Deficit
The First 5 Network Calls for Safeguarding Essential Services to Children

The First 5 Network appreciates the Governor and administration of California for maintaining their commitment to early childhood education, infant and early childhood mental health, and protecting early childhood systems of care as part of the proposed 2024-2025 budget plan. Despite the difficult budget year, the First 5 Network is committed to ensuring the well-being of the state's youngest residents and their families.

“First 5 California continues to be grateful to the Governor and Legislature for last year’s unprecedented, values-based investments in children, families and communities. Although the budget shortfall will be a challenge for our state, we believe the Governor’s 2024 budget proposal is a carefully crafted and thoughtful first draft that addresses the state’s budget deficit while maintaining crucial investments for our youngest Californians, their families, as well as early learning and care educators,” said Jackie Thu-Huong Wong, First 5 California Executive Director.

“We appreciate the commitment to long-term investments to build the infrastructure necessary to continue to create healing-centered, trauma-informed, culturally responsive systems that will ensure equity for all Californians during this time of economic uncertainty. This is highlighted by his continued commitment to the Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative, among many other programs. We look forward to continuing to work with the administration and the Legislature in crafting a final budget that reflects California’s priorities.”

Recognizing that 90 percent of brain development takes place during the first five years of life, First 5s delivers essential programs and services to over 600,000 children per year. These include family strengthening programs, infant and early childhood mental health services, and high-quality early learning and literacy. In addition to state revenue challenges, First 5’s tobacco tax revenue continues to decline, and First 5 investments are at risk of cuts. Without new funding, many First 5 programs will end. In light of these projections, the First 5 Association of California will seek state investments to protect critical services for California’s youngest children.

“While belt-tightening during lean budgets is necessary, it is also an opportunity to double down on our best investment – and there is no better investment than California’s young children,” said Avo Makdessian, Executive Director of First 5 Association.

“Our state leaders have made tremendous strides for young children and their families over the last few years with investments in the expansion of Medi-Cal, universal transitional kindergarten, and early learning rate reform. The budget proposal from Governor Newsom keeps to that commitment of protecting investments in early childhood serving systems despite a significant state deficit,” said Karla Pleitéz Howell, Executive Director at First 5 LA. “We look forward to working with state agencies, the Legislature, and the administration to center communities facing the greatest systemic barriers by committing to ongoing funding for core programs and services, so that every child in California has the resources needed to reach their full developmental potential.”

The First 5 Network looks forward to continued collaboration of the Legislature and Governor to ensure this invaluable work continues unabated.
