Marvel Studios prepares to hear writers’ pitches for X-Men projects following the end of the WGA strike

Marvel Studios prepares to hear writers’ pitches for X-Men projects following the end of the WGA strike

Marvel Studios plans to hear writers’ pitches for its X-Men movie in the fall following the end of the WGA strike.

With the WGA strike settled, Marvel Studios is itching to get the ball rolling on several projects, including the studio’s long-gestating plans for the rebooted X-Men Universe. According to Deadline, Marvel Studios hopes to schedule writers’ meetings in Autumn for pitches concerning an X-Men movie. While there’s no rush to put the X-project into production since the studio has not specified a date, more writers will have a shot at selling the studio on their idea.

Regardless of the writers’ schedules, today’s news means Marvel is officially starting its development for the next era of X-Men films. Fans have been popping their claws for the X-Men to join the MCU since Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019. Projects immediately heading our way are X-Men ’97 and Deadpool 3X-Men ’97 is a follow-up to the beloved after-school-hours animated series—the new show debuts on Disney+ in early 2024.

Marvel is in an exciting position with the X-Men. The studio could take an old-school approach to the team by presenting a classic roster of characters squaring off against a big bad, or they could embrace the latest era of X-Men, which finds the mutant population occupying the living island of Krakoa. The Krakoan era of X-Men could be too ambitious to start, but if Marvel wants to separate itself from Fox’s previous efforts with the X-Men brand, it’d be an excellent way to go.

While the end of the WGA strike is a step in a positive direction, SAG-AFTRA needs to settle its differences with the entertainment industry, too. You can write as many fantastic scripts as you like, but if there’s no one around to act them out, that’s the end of an otherwise exciting endeavor.

What should Marvel’s approach to the X-Men be? Do you want a retread of the 20th Century Fox films or something entirely new? Will the MCU reintroduce Wolverine immediately, or will the studio introduce untapped mutants like Iceman, Glob Herman, Hazmat, Dazzler, and the Five-in-One? I’d love to see them try something new, as the X-Men Universe is vast and full of potential. It would be a shame if the past repeated itself too much. Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Black Book Announces Top Client-Rated Coding, Transcription, Clinical Documentation Improvement and HIM Vendors at AHIMA 2023

Black Book Announces Top Client-Rated Coding, Transcription, Clinical Documentation Improvement and HIM Vendors at AHIMA 2023
Four thousand healthcare solution users rated user experience among the top-performing category vendors in the 22 HIM-focused customer satisfaction surveys.

Black Book™ surveyed 4,021 medical practices, hospitals, and healthcare organization HIM users, including 2,826 coding professionals, to determine the top-performing vendors among in-demand computer-assisted coding, clinical documentation improvement software, speech recognition, transcription systems, and outsourced coding services, and to assess the gaps and urgencies of coding technology administration.

With post-pandemic health system margins waning below 2.3% nationwide, providers urgently seek opportunities for digital transformations to capture all revenue sources through updated software solutions and anticipate industry shifts through innovative analytics and forecasting tools to artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and enhanced coding innovations.

Black Book conducts polls and surveys with healthcare executives and front-line users about their current technology and service partners and awards top-performing vendors based on performance on 18 qualitative indicators of client experience, loyalty, and customer satisfaction, among other critical KPIs.

"The latest wave of economic and labor challenges accompanying the tentative shift to value-based care finds most providers navigating through virtual health options to initiate highly positive patient experiences and reverse sinking margins," said Black Book's President Doug Brown. "The absence of advanced coding tools, strategic dysfunction caused by failed EHR integration, and outdated speech recognition systems has put an organizational focus on the immediate technology needs of health information management leaders."

Basepaws Launches the Most Extensive DNA Test for Dogs, Focused on Health and Early Detection of Disease Risk

Basepaws, the leader in feline DNA testing and genetics, enters the canine market with the most extensive DNA test for dogs, accelerating the health genetic testing landscape. Basepaws Breed + Health Dog DNA Test helps pet owners shift from reactive to proactive care, offering easy swabbing and mobile-friendly results for a simplified experience.

Our pets can be masters at hiding pain until a disease becomes advanced. Basepaws dog DNA test can identify health risks earlier — even before painful symptoms appear. Earlier detection of risks can also offer additional opportunities for treatment and improvement in a pet's quality of life, in collaboration with your veterinarian.

A quick and easy-to-use oral swab test offers pet parents invaluable insights into their dog's genetic blueprint. These insights include over 280 genetic markers linked to hereditary conditions in dogs — more genetic markers than any other pet DNA test. Additionally, Basepaws provides a comprehensive breakdown of breed similarity by comparing the dog's genome to a vast database of 200+ canine breeds, and details on more than 30 distinct genetic trait markers that influence their unique physical characteristics, such as coat length, texture, color, pattern, as well as body size, shape, and structure.

Basepaws leads the pack as the first company in pet genetics to employ Illumina Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology. This involves conducting in-house whole genome sequencing (WGS) and delivering data on approximately 2.5 billion nucleotide bases for each canine genome analyzed. NGS has found application in diverse fields of biological research, ranging from the study of COVID-19 patients, to unraveling the mutational landscapes of cancer. Now, this cutting-edge technology is at your disposal, providing comprehensive genetic insights into your pet's health and breed through Basepaws.

When you choose Basepaws, your dog's DNA sample undergoes sequencing on the latest and most advanced NGS machine on the market, the NovaSeq X Plus by Illumina. This allows pet owners to access invaluable insights into their pet's health, enabling them to make well-informed decisions about their beloved companion's overall well-being and care.

“Basepaws is dedicated to helping pets lead longer, healthier lives by equipping pet parents with the knowledge and resources to provide proactive care. With a passion-fueled team, including pet parents, geneticists, veterinarians, and the world's leading animal health provider, we aim to be the go-to choice for dog DNA testing worldwide," says Anna Skaya, CEO and founder of Basepaws.

Wafaa Mamilli, Executive Vice President, Chief Digital & Technology Officer, and Group President for China, Brazil, and Precision Animal Health at Zoetis, which acquired Basepaws in 2022, commented on the company’s expansion: "Basepaws entry into the dog genetics market showcases their creativity and innovation. Building on their track record of setting industry standards with the cat DNA test, their history suggests a promising future in the dog DNA domain. Zoetis enthusiastically supports this strategic expansion, anticipating significant advancements in the field and improved health outcomes for our canine companions.”

Masters of the Universe: Revolution clip shows He-Man battling Scare Glow

A clip from the upcoming Kevin Smith / Netflix animated series Masters of the Universe: Revolution shows He-Man vs. Scare Glow

Kevin Smith’s Netflix animated series Masters of the Universe: Revelation was envisioned as a follow-up to the 1980s show He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and now Revelation is getting a follow-up of its own. Smith and Netflix are set to bring us the sequel series Masters of the Universe: Revolution sometime in 2024 – and while a specific release date hasn’t been revealed, promotion of the show has started with the unveiling of a clip that shows He-Man going to battle with the villainous Scare Glow! You can check it out at the bottom of this article.

Masters of the Universe: Revelation viewers may remember that when Eternia was running low on magic, villain characters Tri-Klops, Trap Jaw, Whiplash, and Blast-Attak became part of a technology-focused Motherboard cult, where followers were turned into cyborgs. Picking up where Revelation left off, Revolution is an all-new story that focuses on the classic He-Man vs. Skeletor rivalry in a way audiences have never seen before. It’s technology up against magic as He-Man and the heroic warriors face the forces of Skeletor and a deadly threat to the Planet in the next epic chapter in the battle for Eternia.

The voice cast includes Chris Wood as He-Man and Prince Adam, Mark Hamill as Skeletor, Melissa Benoist as Teela (replacing Sarah Michelle Gellar), Lena Headey as Evil-Lyn, Meg Foster as Motherboard, Liam Cunningham as Duncan, Alicia Silverstone as Queen Marlena, Tony Todd as Scare Glow, and William Shatner in an unspecified role. Foster previously played Evil-Lyn in the 1987 live-action Masters of the Universe film.

When her involvement was announced, Foster had this to say about joining Masters of the Universe: Revolution: “My part in Masters of the Universe more than 35 years ago remains one of my most cherished roles. I am both thrilled and honored to come back into the fold to embody a brilliant, all-new villainous character that adds color to the vibrant storytelling that Kevin Smith and Mattel have brought to life for fans around the world.

Take a look at the He-Man vs. Scare Glow clip from Masters of the Universe: Revolution, then let us know what you thought of it by leaving a comment below.

Netflix has shipped out their last DVD, but which movie was it?

Netflix has shipped out their last DVD, but which movie was it?

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos announces that the company has shipped out their last DVD, but which movie has the honor?

Netflix announced earlier this year that they would be shutting down their original DVD-by-mail business and that day has finally arrived. Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos took to Instagram to announce that the company has now shipped out its last DVD, but which film has the honor of occupying that final red envelope?

According to Deadline, the last Netflix DVD was a copy of the Coen Brothers’ True Grit. “Today, after 25 years, we ship our last DVD,” Ted Sarandos wrote on Instagram. “It was a huge honor to join the incredible DVD team in Fremont this week to thank them for being a part something that changed people’s lives. Those iconic red envelopes were so loved that we shipped more than 5 billion of them to cities and towns, big and small that otherwise would have had no access to the variety of films and television shows we made available. Thank you to all of our members and DVD employees for 25 history making years!

Before Netflix began streaming movies and TV shows, their service delivered DVDs to customers, who would mail them back in those red envelopes when they were done. Blockbuster was still king of the DVD rental market at the time, but the iconic company would soon feel the power of Netflix and ultimately shut down.

After an incredible 25 year run, we’ve decided to wind down DVD.com later this year,” Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said in a statement in April. “Our goal has always been to provide the best service for our members but as the business continues to shrink that’s going to become increasingly difficult. So we want to go out on a high, and will be shipping our final discs on September 29, 2023.” Sarandos added: “Those iconic red envelopes changed the way people watched shows and movies at home — and they paved the way for the shift to streaming. From the beginning, our members loved the choice and control that direct-to-consumer entertainment offered: the wide variety of the titles and the ability to binge watch entire series. DVDs also led to our first foray into original programming — with Red Envelope Entertainment titles including Sherrybaby and Zach Galifianakis Live at the Purple Onion.

The very first DVD Netflix ever shipped out was a copy of Beetlejuice on March 10, 1998. Back then, it would have been difficult to imagine that rental stores would go the way of the dodo and streaming services would rule the market.
