World's Most Nutrient-Dense Food

Key Nutrients of Watercress

Watercress Nutrients

Watercress continues to top the charts, packed with over 50 essential nutrients and recognized as the only food to receive a perfect score from ANDI and the CDC. This healthy, flavorful leafy green delivers a potent portion of health benefits. Watercress is a superfood with a distinctive taste that stands out from the muted flavors of other leafy greens. With so many nutrients being recognized in this one leafy green, we want to focus our attention on some of the critical nutrients.

Vitamin A supports the immune system, eye health reproduction, and growth and development. Vitamin A helps your heart, lungs, and other organs work properly. In addition, studies show that people whose diet is high in Vitamin A or beta-carotene can have a lower risk of certain kinds of cancer.

Vitamin C shields the body against free radicals and supports the normal function of blood vessels. Vitamin C has also been shown to aid in the healing of wounds and assist in iron absorption and neurological function.

B Vitamins are a family of vitamins that uniquely keep our bodies healthy and energized. B Vitamins help convert energy from carbohydrates to fuel, assist fat cells in breaking down amino acids, and aid in transporting oxygen and energy-containing nutrients around the body.

Vitamin K supports blood clotting and is necessary for calcium absorption to strengthen bones. Vitamin K is also shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and could be a key component in preventing Alzheimer's disease.

Vitamin E is a nutrient critical to vision, reproduction, and your blood, brain, and skin health. Vitamin E also has antioxidant properties. Antioxidants may protect your cells from free radicals and can play a role in heart disease, cancer, and other diseases.

Zinc is an essential micronutrient for total health and a robust immune system, and it supports keeping infections at bay. Research shows that zinc aids every step of the immune process, from the growth and development of immune cells to their fight against upsetting agents, including bacteria, viruses, and parasites.

Watercress's highly absorbable iron is one of the best ways to incorporate iron and help your body carry oxygen to cells, playing a significant part in the immune system process. The iron in Watercrcress helps maintain your energy levels, impacting how your body feels. In addition, iron builds up your immune cells, allowing them to reach full maturity and optimally perform.

Magnesium is crucial in muscle function, your nervous system, and energy production. Magnesium is also a critical stabilizing nutrient for blood sugar and blood pressure and helps your body rest and recover.

Your body needs calcium to build and maintain strong bones and muscles. Additionally, calcium supports your heart and nervous system.

Potassium helps maintain normal fluid levels inside our cells. Potassium also helps muscles to contract and supports normal blood pressure.

PEITC (Phenethyl isothiocyanate) is a naturally occurring isothiocyanate whose precursor, is gluconasturtiin. PEITC has been shown to have chemo-preventive effects in cell and animal studies of cancer.

Protein is a critical part of the processes to fuel your energy and carry oxygen throughout your body in your blood. In addition, protein helps make antibodies that fight off infections and illnesses, keep cells healthy, and creates new ones.

Amino Acids are the building blocks of protein. Break down food, grow and repair tissue, make hormone and brain chemicals, create an energy source, maintain healthy skin, hair, and nails, build muscle, boost your immune system, and sustain a regular digestive system.

Somatix and Roche Launch an Only-of-Its-Kind Medication Compliance Capability Using AI-Enabled Wearable Technology

Roche and Somatix Teams at Beta-i

The Roche and Somatix teams gather together at Beta-i's \"Innovation in Dementia\" event.

Somatix leadership presented the results of its brand-new medication compliance and hydration capabilities that were trained and launched in Portuguese hospitals and clinics as part of the Building Tomorrow Together - Innovation in Dementia Program with Roche Pharmaceuticals, Multicare, and Beta-i Collaborative Innovation. The project was part of an open innovation initiative powered by Beta-i, in which four startups, including Somatix, were selected to conduct their pilots in public or private institutions in Portugal. Somatix is honored to be part of this project to improve the quality of life of patients with dementia.

Using its unique artificial intelligence-enabled technology, Somatix is able to provide powerful clinical insights from wearables worn by patients with early to mid-stage dementia, including hydration, falls and medication compliance. Dehydration and missed medication dosages are potentially preventable events that otherwise lead to injury and illness. With the combination of remote monitoring, telehealth, and Somatix's SafeBeingTM platform, the goal is to keep these patients safer and healthier while preserving their independence, and to improve their quality of life either at home or in an independent living facility. Partnering with Roche and two major health providers in Portugal, Campus Neurologico Senior (cnscampus.com) and CUF (cuf.pt), Somatix demonstrated the first successful clinical use of its ground-breaking medication compliance feature.

Dr. Charles Herman, CEO of Somatix, commented, "Somatix's AI-powered Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) platform for healthcare providers uniquely uses wearable-enabled gesture detection to yield powerful clinical insights to improve patient outcomes with the help of strategic partners like Roche and Multicare, our sponsors; CNS and CUF, our healthcare provider partners; and Beta-i, the open innovation program developer; bringing groundbreaking technology to the aging population in Europe. We also worked closely with our ecosystem partner, Amazon Web Services, to build our first cloud-based server in Europe."

"Somatix is happy to report that the medication compliance feature was accurately able to detect pills taken and missed with over 70% accuracy. Based on the experience with Roche and its partners, we have already found opportunities to further improve the accuracy of our medication intake algorithm and plan to reach close to 90% accuracy in the next phase of our project. We also observed close to 95% accuracy in detecting the amount of fluid consumed over a day," says Dr. Amit Sawant, COO of Somatix.

Somatix and Roche plan to expand the partnership later this year, bringing Somatix's platform to more outpatients with early and mid-stage dementia in an effort to keep them safer and healthier in their own environments.

Space Tea and Sprouts Farmers Market Deepen Their Partnership With Long-Term Product Placement
Following a successful launch, Space Tea and Sprouts are committed to providing customers with adaptogenic mushroom drinks that contain healthy ingredients, including Reishi mushrooms and Lion's Mane mushrooms, in an amazing-tasting beverage.

Space Tea's partnership with Sprouts Farmers Market will now include a prominent placement in chain-wide distribution beginning in July with the launch of iced tea and lemonade beverages, such as best-selling flavor Golden Mango, as well as Original and Watermelon flavors.

"We are very excited about the national launch of Space Tea inside the beverage aisle at Sprouts," Gabriel Heymann, co-founder and CEO, said. "Their focus on natural, better-for-you products is central to why we created Space Tea."

After a successful initial trial run in Sprouts, the new launch is a permanent partnership that will feature Space Tea, the world's first adaptogenic mushroom iced tea and lemonade beverage, in the grocery chain's tea/beverage aisle centerpiece, displaying the Original, Golden Mango, and Watermelon flavors.

"Sprouts was our first national retail partnership and has proven to be a great match with what we provide, a refreshing blend of iced tea and lemonade, and what the store offers in terms of healthy options for the consumer," Heymann said. "We are transitioning to a more permanent location within Sprouts as we evolve our partnership."

As one of the fastest-growing retailers in the U.S., Sprouts is an ideal location for Space Tea's certified organic, non-GMO, gluten-free, and kosher products, which uses a blend of non-psychoactive, functional Reishi and Lion's Mane mushrooms for enhanced uplifting energy, focus, mood-boosting properties, and mental clarity.

According to Research and Markets, the global functional beverage market is expected to reach $208 billion in 2027 due to the growing popularity of functional mushrooms found in a variety of healthcare and pharmaceutical products.

"Space Tea offers high-quality ingredients that have been used for centuries to promote focus and mental clarity," Heymann said. "Sprouts is our latest expansion that enables more people to experience the potential benefits of Reishi and Lion's Mane mushroom in an amazing-tasting beverage format."

According to tamimteas.com, functional mushrooms with Lion's Mane, Reishi, and Chaga have been used as natural remedies to soothe the body for centuries, supporting digestion, energy, the immune system, mental clarity, mood, relaxation, and sleep. Adaptogens are herbs that can help the body's stress response systems and improve the ability to adapt and restore after stress exposure.

Since its launch in August 2021, Space Tea has quickly become a bestseller of iced tea and lemonade beverages across Southern California and is also available at Bristol Farms, Earthbar, Erewhon Market, Lazy Acres, Mother's Market, and Sun Life.

New Study Reveals 84% of Americans With a Chronic Disease Have Never Worked With a Health Coach

New Study Reveals 84% of Americans With a Chronic Disease Have Never Worked With a Health Coach

A survey of 550 people in the United States with a chronic disease, conducted by Saluto Institute, revealed that 84% of respondents have never worked with a health coach, and 71% are not familiar with how health coaching may benefit them.

Over the past three years, a surge of peer-reviewed research has demonstrated the effectiveness of health coaching for many of the 6 in 10 adults in America who have at least one of the most common (and costly) chronic diseases. Health coaching can benefit patients with cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes, chronic pain, mental illness, addiction, autoimmune diseases, Alzheimer's disease, and even certain types of cancers. In early 2023, UnitedHealthcare announced the launch of a virtual coaching program for eligible members. In April, Walgreens rolled out a new care coaching program in select pharmacies across seven states. Numerous digital healthcare startups, digital therapeutics providers, and specialty medical practices are hiring health coaches to improve patient care and maximize patient outcomes.

"Health coaches have the potential to play an integral role in solving the community and public health crisis in America," says Lara Zakaria, VP of science education and learner experience at Saluto Institute. Health coaches provide patients with guidance in navigating the healthcare system, create relevant and culturally-responsive health education, offer community care and social support, and develop personalized health behavior modification plans that physicians and other providers don't have the capacity to offer their patients. "Patients who are members of marginalized communities already struggle to access culturally appropriate and inclusive health and wellness resources, and health coaches can change that" affirms Ebony Williams, VP of health equity & inclusion at Saluto Institute.

Even though the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics does not yet include health coaches in its Occupational Outlook Handbook, health coaching is a rapidly growing and future-proof profession that is still, in many ways, in its infancy. Health coaches have a vast array of opportunities to work in various community and clinical settings, and even remotely. Certified health and community wellness coaches learn evidence-informed skills to help people with any number of health conditions. "Connecting people in your community with the resources they need to improve their health is incredibly gratifying and meaningful work," says Saluto Institute's Director of Community Care, advisor, and health coach, Angie Alt.

In August 2023, Saluto Institute will be the first public benefit company to launch a health and community wellness coach certification program. "This program is specifically developed to equip the new generation of health and community wellness coaches with the skills and confidence they need to support, educate and empower their communities, as well as advocate for systemic change," says Zakaria. Saluto Institute will partner with other organizations to continue researching health coaching and its potential implications for patients, healthcare providers, public health systems, health equity, and community wellness.

Spider Baby: remake of Jack Hill’s 1967 classic has wrapped filming

Spider Baby: remake of Jack Hill’s 1967 classic has wrapped filming

A remake of director Jack Hill’s 1967 classic Spider Baby or, the Maddest Story Ever Told has wrapped filming with Dustin Ferguson at the helm

Director Jack Hill’s 1967 film Spider Baby or, the Maddest Story Ever Told (watch it HERE) – which boasts a cast that includes Lon Chaney Jr. and Sid Haig – ranks up there as one of my all-time favorites. Rob Zombie clearly took some inspiration from Spider Baby when he was making House of 1000 Corpses, and back in 2007 we heard that a remake was in the works, coming from the Night of the Living Dead 3D team of director Jeff Broadstreet and writer Robert Valding. The one didn’t end up making it into production… but now, sixteen years later, another attempt to remake Spider Baby has been made. And this one has just wrapped filming!

The Spider Baby remake is coming our way from SCS Entertainment and director Dustin Ferguson. It tells the story of a pair of greedy relatives that try to repossess the Merrye Estate. But the inbred children protect their home and bloodline at all costs.

Original Spider Baby cast member Beverly Washburn has returned for this take on the concept and is joined in the cast by Brinke Stevens, Robert Mukes, Ron Chaney, Peter Stickles, Traci Burr, Jennifer Moriarty, and Vida Ghaffari.

Hill receives an executive producer credit on the Spider Baby remake, and genre regular Jeff Burr, whose credits include From a Whisper to a Scream, Stepfather 2, Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, Eddie Presley, Pumpkinhead II, and Puppet Master 4 and 5, among others, served as a creative consultant.

Ferguson provided the following statement: “We’ve reached an exhilarating milestone with the completion of the Spider Baby remake, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have worked with an extraordinary ensemble of genre stars such as Robert Mukes, Beverly Washburn, Brinke Stevens, and Ron Chaney. Their immense talent and commitment have breathed new life into this iconic story, infusing it with a fresh and captivating energy. I can hardly wait for audiences to experience the chilling world we’ve created when Spider Baby premieres.

I can’t say I have ever hoped to see a Spider Baby remake, but now that there is one in existence I hope it’s as good as Spider Baby deserves.

Cheech and Chong Light Up ‘Cannabis-Free’ States With Hemp Derived THC
The iconic duo are going all-in on their Cruise Chews hemp THC gummies and the response is sweet.

Cheech and Chong's Cruise Chews

Cheech and Chong's Cruise Chews in the iconic \"Love Machine\"

Legendary cannabis icons Cheech and Chong are proudly embracing hemp-derived Delta-9 THC with the launch of their new hemp gummy, Cruise Chews. Their mission: to make the incredible benefits of the plant accessible to as many people as possible, promoting safe and responsible consumption.

"The Farm Bill did us a real favor, man," said Tommy Chong. "With regulated cannabis popping up state by state, we're able to reach some people. But with federally legal Delta-9 THC from Hemp, we can get Cruise Chews to EVERYONE who needs them across America. So we're sharing the love, one chew at a time!"

Cheech and Chong's Cruise Chews are revolutionizing the cannabis experience by offering micro-dosed chews that provide unparalleled access to the benefits of hemp. With 3mg of Delta-9 THC in every chew, Cruise Chews promise a fun, relaxing, mellow time. The addition of 33mg of CBD works to dampen the "darker side" of THC some people experience, such as "munchies" or anxious thoughts.

Cruise Chews' precision dosing enables users to dip their toe into the cannabis world with confidence, providing a reliable and controlled experience. By offering a mild and mellow journey, Cruise Chews allow individuals to unlock the potential of CBD and THC without overwhelming effects, ensuring a smooth ride for both the body and mind.

"The benefits of cannabis or hemp should be accessible to everyone, and Cruise Chews is our way of breaking down barriers," said Cheech Marin. "That precise dose of  3mg THC and 33mg CBD in each gummy, helps guarantee a fun, relaxing, mellow time. And you don't end up emptying out your snack cupboard or spend the afternoon wondering why the dog is looking at you like that."

Cheech and Chong's Global Holding Company's commitment to quality is evident in Cruise Chews. These chews are formulated using 100% naturally occurring CBD and THC from hemp, completely free of synthetic chemicals. The Delta-9 THC, derived naturally from non-GMO, U.S. grown hemp plants, undergoes a gentle extraction process. Each batch of hemp is rigorously tested at harvest to guarantee its purity, ensuring the absence of pesticides, heavy metals, and other toxins.

"The natural part is important to us," adds Tommy Chong, "That's why we won't touch any of these 'new' cannabinoids, like Delta-8 or HHC or any of the others. Nothing against them, but those all have to be synthesized in a lab. They don't grow in nature. We want our products to be as natural and beneficial as the hemp plant itself."

Careful filtration ensures that the valuable terpenes and phytocannabinoids are preserved, resulting in a product of exceptional quality and taste.

What sets Cruise Chews apart, aside from their breakthrough formula, is their accessibility. Thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill, Cruise Chews are legal to purchase online and can be shipped directly to customers in a discreet and legal manner through USPS. Experience the relaxing and mellow journey of Cruise Chews by visiting cheechandchong.com, where they are available for purchase now.

Gb Sciences’ First-in-Class Parkinson’s Disease Therapy Successfully Completes Dose Response Study at the University of Lethbridge
The Parkinson's disease market is expected to grow to $12.8 billion by 2028.

Gb Sciences, Inc. (OTCQB:GBLX), a leading cannabis- and plant-inspired biopharmaceutical research and development company, has successfully completed a dose response study in rodents at the University of Lethbridge that supports Gb Sciences' cannabinoid-based therapy for Parkinson's disease. The study has established dose ranges and the corresponding times to onset and duration of action in a rodent model. In addition to the dosage range findings, this study demonstrated that Gb Sciences' Parkinson's disease formulations were well tolerated, and there were no adverse effects. As early as next year, Gb Sciences plans on filing an Investigational New Drug Application to begin first-in-human clinical trials. As the second most common neurodegenerative disease, the market for Parkinson's disease (PD) treatments is expected to grow to $12.8 billion by 2028.

"Gb Sciences is developing a first-in-class, cannabinoid-based treatment for the motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease. From this critical study, we have established ranges for the dosage and duration of action in a rodent model that helps us to predict the corresponding and appropriate dose range and duration of action of Gb Sciences' Parkinson's disease therapies for our first-in-human trial," explained Dr. Andrea Small-Howard, President, Chief Science Officer, and board member of Gb Sciences, Inc. "Additionally, this study augments our safety data and suggests that our novel therapeutic may also help alleviate the significant non-motor symptoms of the disease such as problems with sleeping and appetite."

The dose response study in rodents performed at the University of Lethbridge helps to establish the correct dosing of Gb Sciences' cannabinoid-containing Parkinson's formulations for a first-in-human trial. Dr. Robert Sutherland, Ph.D., FRSC, Professor and Chair of the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Lethbridge, Board of Governors Research Chair in Neuroscience, and Director of the Canadian Centre for Behavioral Neuroscience, used deep learning models to analyze the rich data sets from their "Home Cage Small World" behavioral assessments of rodents with video cameras and Artificial Intelligence, using a system developed by Neurocage Systems Ltd. Future studies confirming the mechanism of action of these cannabinoid-based Parkinson's formulations are planned with Dr. Sutherland's research group at the University of Lethbridge using their state-of-the-art behavioral measurement methods for rodents.

ADHD Online Adds Social Media Addiction Assessment to Its Online Diagnostic Platform

ADHD Online Adds Social Media Addiction Assessment to Its Online Diagnostic Platform
As Surgeon General advisory reports teens' use skyrocketing and hurting their development, leader in online mental health diagnosis broadens its efforts.

About 95% of American teens report using a social media platform, with more than a third saying they use it "almost constantly." Studies show social media use may affect young people's brain development and make them less happy as teenagers—prompting the U.S. Surgeon General in May to issue a public health advisory on social media use. Mentavi Health has added a validated assessment tool for measuring problematic social media use to its standard ADHD Online assessment process.

Mentavi Health is the parent company of ADHD Online, the industry leader in virtual ADHD assessment and patient care plans. ADHD Online offers HIPAA-secured ADHD assessments online with certified results from licensed psychologists in all 50 states.

The Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS), a six-item questionnaire, is a validated assessment tool used in large- and small-scale medical studies. Mentavi Health added the BSMAS at the recommendation of new Chief Medical Officer Dr. Barry K. Herman to help patients and others raise their awareness of their habits related to social media.

Herman said the Surgeon General's Advisory was a wake-up call, informing people that they need to pay more attention to the detrimental effects of social media.

"The Surgeon General's report underscored that urgent action is needed to understand and minimize harm, creating safer online environments for young people. Our team embraced this need and has fully integrated the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale into our standard ADHD Online assessment process," Herman said.

"Although social media addiction does not yet have a formal diagnosis in the industry, our ADHD assessment will now also provide pertinent information on patient tendencies and risks in these areas, in keeping with our philosophy of providing optimal self-awareness," he said.

The Surgeon General's report notes that harmful effects of social media addiction include increased anxiety, depression, poor concentration, impaired academic and work performance, and decreased overall satisfaction with life. "This is a growing concern among people of all ages, in an area where many have little insight into their behaviors and where consequences can be significant," Herman said.

Among the findings in the report, which draws on more than 100 studies from pediatricians, psychologists and other experts:

Children and young adults spend an average of three hours per day on social media platforms.

Social media is designed to be addictive, with features like endless scrolling and notifications that grab attention.

The appeal of social media is linked to innate social instincts and the release of dopamine in the brain, which can lead to habit formation and addiction.

Harmful effects of social media addiction include increased anxiety and depression, disrupted sleep, inability to concentrate, poor academic and work performance, and less overall satisfaction with life

Risk factors for social media addiction include poor emotion regulation, low self-esteem, and limited coping skills.

In addition to preventive measures like digital detoxes and reducing social media usage, treatment for social media addiction may involve various approaches, such as therapy, counseling, support groups, and addressing underlying mental health issues.

Mentavi Health believes ADHD Online's ability to assess people's problematic social media use can be a valuable addition to its mission of making better mental and emotional health available to all, regardless of location or physical access to healthcare professionals.

"We hope that with the addition of the BSMAS, we will be able to help even more people develop a better understanding of their overall mental health and to assist our licensed professionals to diagnose, care and connect people with the treatment they need and deserve," said Herman.
