Fertilix Proven Effective in Blocking Damage From Low-Dose Exposure to Chemicals Commonly Found in Plastic Consumer Products

According to a recent study by Université Clermont Auvergne researchers, exposure to chemical additives and building blocks commonly used in everyday plastic products, even in low doses, can cause significant damage to the genetic material carried by sperm cells.

The study, led by Professor Joël Drevet, examined two common chemicals widely used in the plastic industry: dibutyl phthalate and bisphenol AF. These chemicals have long been linked to lowering male fertility, but the novelty of this study was in evaluating doses that were previously considered safe or inconsequential for consumers. While researchers found no appreciable effect on general semen parameters typically examined in fertility clinics such as sperm counts and motility, significant oxidation and decompaction of DNA structure in sperm cells were observed. This is concerning because damage to paternal genetic material can expose the female partner to higher risk of pregnancy loss and potentially impact the health of the offspring. Interestingly, the study also showed that co-administration with micronutrient supplement Fertilix® significantly blocked the damaging effects of these chemicals on sperm DNA.

Given that microplastics are found everywhere in our surroundings, these findings underscore the importance of greater public awareness and the urgency for the plastic industry to replace such substances with biodegradable or natural alternatives. Furthermore, fertility experts counseling couples ahead of natural or assisted conception should advocate for preconceptual supplementation and possible lifestyle modifications that may mitigate the impact of environmental pollutants.

This study is now available with open-access in Antioxidants, a premier journal in antioxidant research, and can be downloaded here. CellOxess Biotechnology, the designer and manufacturer of Fertilix® formulations, will present the full results of this study at the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) annual meeting this June in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Zeto Introduces New Features for Clinical Research Applications to Address the Growing Need for Rapid Brain Monitoring in Health Sciences
The company plans to leverage its platform technology to improve access and quality to medical EEG testing and to enable and improve adjacent biomedical research and clinical trials.

Zeto, Inc., an innovative EEG brain monitoring company, announced its participation in the upcoming Vision Sciences Society (VSS) annual meeting in St. Pete Beach, Florida, from May 19-24.

The Vision Sciences Society (VSS) Annual Meeting is a premier gathering that covers the broad scope of vision science. The meeting brings together experts from various disciplines, including visual psychophysics, visual neuroscience, computational vision, and visual cognition. As part of this event, Zeto, Inc. will showcase its latest product features tailored for EEG in clinical research applications.

Originally developed for the rapid acquisition of clinical EEGs in hospitals and clinical practices, Zeto is responding to an increasing number of requests from researchers and clinical research organizations (CROs) who share a common need for high-quality EEGs recorded more efficiently compared to traditional technologies.

The research features introduced by Zeto include the ability to record timing-precise event-related potentials (ERPs) through its unified cloud platform. Users can now benefit from the ease and security of Zeto's cloud interface yet maintaining sub-millisecond precision on input and output event markers which are crucial for high-end ERP data acquisition. This cloud platform is particularly relevant for CROs and large-scale multi-site research projects, providing a central place for data access and management.

With advanced API features, state-of-the-art encryption and user management, researchers can conveniently interact with EEG and synchronized video data using commonly available scripting languages such as Python®, MATLAB® or most other programming languages. This significantly speeds up the ability to process large multi-site datasets and fosters collaboration and synergies among multi-center stakeholders.

"Zeto has been providing tremendous value for our clinical customers in hospitals and private practices, but we are particularly excited to now offer the convenience of Zeto EEG to CROs and cutting-edge researchers," says Florian Strelzyk, Chief Sales Officer at Zeto. "The ease of use, comfort, and refined feel of our products will open up a wide range of new opportunities to bring EEG out of the lab and into research environments that are closely related to the topics they study. Imagine the possibilities ahead with a platform that is quick to apply and easy to work with. Successful research frequently relies on large teams extracting clinical findings efficiently, and Zeto can provide this multi-user experience like no other tool currently available."

About Zeto

Zeto, Inc. is an award-winning, privately held medical technology company located in Santa Clara, California, focused on transforming the way electroencephalography is done in clinical and research settings. Pearl Certification Becomes a Public Benefit Corporation

Pearl Certification Becomes a Public Benefit Corporation
Affirms commitment to homeowners and the planet

Pearl Certification Becomes a Public Benefit Corporation

Pearl Certification is advancing the high-performing homes industry by incorporating as a Public Benefit Corporation.

Pearl Certification, the gold standard in high-performing home certifications, is incorporating as a Public Benefit Corporation and pursuing Certification by the nonprofit B-Lab as a B Corp, as a way to further support the company's mission to improve U.S. homes and reduce the nation's carbon footprint.

The vast majority of homes in the U.S. waste energy and cost too much to maintain. Millions of homeowners also live with serious health and comfort problems that are related to their homes' poor energy performance. Most homes are not built to withstand increasingly serious climate-related natural disasters.

Pearl Certification was created to solve these problems: to help homeowners improve their homes' energy and water efficiency, address health risks and comfort problems, add renewables and storage, and enhance resilience to natural disasters. Pearl provides education, assistance, and tools to homeowners; certifies the homes so that they can be accurately valued at the time of sale; and supports networks of vetted, highly qualified professionals who provide home improvement services.

Pearl's work has the potential to drive deep reductions in energy consumption and U.S. carbon pollution.

To become a Public Benefit Corporation (B Corp), a firm must document its commitment to a specific public benefit as the purpose of the corporation and report regularly on its progress. This structural change is Pearl's first step toward certification as a B Corp. To achieve the certification, Pearl must demonstrate a commitment to its public benefit, commit to a high level of transparency regarding its activities and accountability to all stakeholders, not just owners.

"Pearl was founded to further the public interest by working to improve American homes and lives and to create a more sustainable future," said Cynthia Adams, Pearl Certification CEO and co-founder. "B Corp Certification demonstrates our commitment to the public interest to clients, partners, and stakeholders."

"Both Cynthia and I have had careers leading nonprofit organizations," said Robin LeBaron, co-founder and President. "The move to become a public benefit corporation is consistent with Pearl's mission, our company culture, and our backgrounds. It feels great to take this step and affirm our commitment to working for the best interests of our partners and customers."

Pearl's certifications are one of a very few energy-efficiency labels that are actively used by the real estate industry. They have been proven in third-party-authored appraisal studies to consistently increase home value.

Pearl's board and leading shareholders strongly support Pearl's decision to change its structure to a Public Benefit Corporation and seek B Corp Certification.

"We believe that Pearl has an important role to play in addressing some of the most important social issues of our time, starting with carbon emissions, but also including housing quality and accessibility," said Randy Castleman, Managing Partner of Carbon Drawdown Collective and Pearl board member.

"Clean Energy Ventures will only invest in a firm if analysis shows that they have the potential to reduce cumulative CO2 equivalent emissions by 2.5 gigatons by 2050," said David Miller, Managing Director of Clean Energy Ventures and Pearl Board member. "We have invested in Pearl because we see its potential to exceed that target. A public interest corporate status is a perfect fit for what Pearl does and is seeking to accomplish."

About Pearl Certification: Pearl Certification is the gold standard in high-performing home certifications, bringing visibility to the valuable features that make them healthy, safe, comfortable, and energy- and water-efficient. Pearl is the only national sponsor of the U.S. Department of Energy's Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program and is a partner with the National Association of REALTORS® Green Resource Council. Pearl Certified homes sell on average for 5.5% more than comparable homes, according to independent appraiser studies. For more information, visit www.pearlcertification.com.

Guardians will top box office again with $55 million

0
Guardians will top box office again with million

The third Guardians of the Galaxy will take the top spot at the box office again ahead of next week’s Fast X debut.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 won’t be mixing it up this week, as it’s expected to remain at the top of the box office yet again. As of now, Guardians is projecting to pull in $54-55 million in its second weekend, with $15 million coming from Friday alone. While this is an approximately 54% drop from its debut last week, it’s still more than enough to keep the competition far away.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is still holding strong at the box office, draining another $13.3 million, which is good enough to take second again after dropping to that spot last week following the debut of the latest Guardians. Previously, it had held the top spot since debuting to an astonishing $200+ million during the April 7th-9th weekend.

While Guardians and Super Mario will reign, the top five at the box office this week only has one new movie. Book Club: The Next Chapter is looking to turn the page at $7 million across more than 3,500 theaters. The sequel to the 2018 movie will see numbers far lower than the 2018 original, which had an opening weekend of $13.6 million on just under 2,800 theaters. Comparing both per-theater numbers and final tallies, The Next Chapter might point the series towards the bargain bin. Still, reports suggest the movie, which has a cast of Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen, could get a small bump from a female-dominated Mother’s Day crowd.

Guardians was expected to drop at the box office this weekend, but it has fared far better than the previous Marvel outing, Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania, which took a 70% stumble in week two. The third Guardians made $118 million at the box office on opening weekend and can currently be seen on 4,450 screens. Fast X will undoubtedly put the brakes on its run at the top when it debuts next weekend.

Rounding out the top five is looking to be Evil Dead Rise and Judy Blume adaptation Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, in their fourth and third weekends, respectively. The anticipated $3.6 million take for Evil Dead Rise will help it widen its lead as the highest-grossing entry in the franchise.

What are you seeing at the theaters this weekend? How do you think Guardians will fare at the box office next week?

4ocean and U.S. Polo Assn. Renew Global Ocean-Positive Sustainability Partnership Goal to Remove 150,000 Pounds of Trash from World’s Oceans

4ocean, a purpose-driven B Corp with a mission to end the ocean plastic crisis, in partnership with U.S. Polo Assn., the official brand of the United States Polo Association (USPA), are pleased to announce the extension of their partnership. The two entities have committed to removing 150,000 pounds of trash from the world's oceans through the 4ocean Pound+ Services, now through 2024.

4ocean and U.S. Polo Assn.'s partnership began in early 2021 and successfully led to the removal of 60,000 pounds of plastic from the ocean, rivers, and coastlines. The two organizations worked together during that time towards ocean-positive sustainability with the help of 88 crew members and seven ocean vessels, with most of the waste being pulled in Indonesia across six specific beaches. This year's goal more than doubles the previous year's accomplishment.

"I'm stoked about the extension of our partnership with U.S. Polo Assn. and their commitment to increasing the amount of trash and plastic they pull," said Alex Schulze, co-founder of 4ocean. "It's inspiring to see a company take such a proactive approach to sustainability that will have a measurable impact on the ocean. U.S. Polo Assn. committing to 2.5 times the amount of trash and plastic they pulled last year is a bold move, and I'm excited to see the results of this initiative."

Schulze added, "We are proud to be part of this effort and look forward to continuing our collaboration with U.S. Polo Assn. and other partners to make a positive impact on our ocean."

This meaningful partnership is a component of U.S. Polo Assn.'s overarching sustainability initiative USPA Life, which works towards improving the impact of our business on the environment. The USPA Life initiative also offers a global and growing selection of apparel, footwear, and accessories with sustainable attributes.

"U.S. Polo Assn. has been taking a global and holistic approach to our long-term sustainability journey with initiatives like our 4ocean partnership and USPA Life," said J. Michael Prince, President and CEO of USPA Global Licensing Inc., which manages the multi-billion-dollar U.S. Polo Assn. brand. "We have been working diligently to improve our global footprint through products that are better for the environment and through partnerships with organizations like 4ocean that share our mission and vision for a sustainable future."

4ocean was the Official Sustainability Partner of the U.S. Open Polo Championship Final, collecting plastic and trash from the prestigious and sold-out event in April at the USPA National Polo Center. 4ocean also had a series of commercial spots run during the U.S. Open Polo Championship Final on multiple ESPN platforms, bringing awareness to millions of consumers and sports fans. Taken from Rio Bravo Exclusive: Trailer for western sequel drops

The sequel to Gunfight at Rio Bravo, Taken from Rio Bravo, will be featured at the Cannes market later this month.

The upcoming western Taken from Rio Bravo has received its first trailer and we’re pleased to present it exclusively here on JoBlo!

The action-packed trailer starts off with an attempted robbery that results in juuuust about everybody getting a bullet to the chest courtesy of one nasty gunslinger. He joins forces with the seemingly more cautious sheriff, out to find his soon-to-be bride, nabbed by a group of bastards who take women over the border into Mexico. Judging by the trailer, Taken from Rio Bravo looks to be a tightly constructed picture with plenty of gunplay. And yes, that is our very own John Fallon in the trailer!

The official plot synopsis of Taken from Rio Bravo: “The action western sees the return of the mysterious Russian gunslinger who teams up with a sheriff in pursuit of a gang of sadistic human traffickers known as The Posse, who have kidnapped five women.”

The upcoming movie is a sequel to Gunfight at Rio Bravo, a highly enjoyable western actioner which came to theaters and home video earlier this year. As with the first, Joe Cornet (Incident at Guilt Ridge, A Prayer for the Damned) directs, while Craig Hamann (Showdown in Manila, Red Prophecies) has screenplay credit.

Taken from Rio Bravo stars Alexander Nevsky, who also led the aforementioned Showdown in Manila and Moscow Heat and is also a prominent bodybuilder who was named a three-time Mr. Universe. Director Cornet plays the plays, while the supporting cast includes Cynthia Rothrock, Irina Antonenko, Matthias Hues, Tatiana Neva, John Fallon and Don “The Dragon” Wilson.

Taken from Rio Bravo, which has been acquired by Premiere Entertainment, will be featured at this year’s Cannes market, which launches next week and runs until May 27th. As per the official release, Nevsky produced the film for Hollywood Storm alongside executive producers Eric Brenner for ETA Films, Joe Cornet for San Rafael Productions and Douglas “Fini” Finical.

What did you think of the trailer for Taken from Rio Bravo? Did you catch its predecessor, Gunfight at Rio Bravo? Check out some more exclusive pictures from the movie below!

Jamie Foxx out of the hospital after “medical complication”

Jamie Foxx out of the hospital after “medical complication”

Jamie Foxx has been out of the hospital for weeks now, according to an Instagram post by his daughter Corinne.

Jamie Foxx is officially out of the hospital — and has been for weeks now, according to his daughter, Corinne, who took to social media this week to finally give fans another update.

On her Instagram, Corinne posted that Jamie Foxx is well on his way to a full recovery, while also taking a jab at the media: “update from the family: Sad to see how the media runs wild. My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating. In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday! Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support!” Not to take umbrage with Corinne Foxx’s comment, but if the family was that concerned with speculation from the media (and fans), why not provide information and updates on a more frequent basis? Sure, specific medical details should be kept private, but considering Foxx is a beloved public figure, more facts could have quelled any online rumors and kept news outlets from “running wild.” If we had to guess, the lengthy gaps would only generate more questions…Foxx himself didn’t make his first public statement until May 3rd.

Even still, we’re glad Jamie Foxx is out of the hospital and getting back to normal–if we’re qualifying pickleball as “normal.” Last month, Corinne informed fans, “We wanted to share that my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday. Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery. We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time. Much love, The Foxx family.”

While Jamie Foxx was in the hospital, his latest movie, Back in Action, resumed production using a stunt and body double. He was also replaced as the host of Fox’s game show Beat Shazam by Nick Cannon, while Kelly Osbourne stepped in for Corinne as the show’s DJ. No release date has been set for Back in Action, but it will arrive on Netflix later this year or in early 2024.

Now that Jamie Foxx is out of the hospital and back in action himself, what are you hoping to see from him in the future?
