Pearl Certification Becomes a Public Benefit Corporation

Pearl Certification is advancing the high-performing homes industry by incorporating as a Public Benefit Corporation.

Pearl Certification, the gold standard in high-performing home certifications, is incorporating as a Public Benefit Corporation and pursuing Certification by the nonprofit B-Lab as a B Corp, as a way to further support the company's mission to improve U.S. homes and reduce the nation's carbon footprint. 

The vast majority of homes in the U.S. waste energy and cost too much to maintain. Millions of homeowners also live with serious health and comfort problems that are related to their homes' poor energy performance. Most homes are not built to withstand increasingly serious climate-related natural disasters. 

Pearl Certification was created to solve these problems: to help homeowners improve their homes' energy and water efficiency, address health risks and comfort problems, add renewables and storage, and enhance resilience to natural disasters. Pearl provides education, assistance, and tools to homeowners; certifies the homes so that they can be accurately valued at the time of sale; and supports networks of vetted, highly qualified professionals who provide home improvement services. 

Pearl's work has the potential to drive deep reductions in energy consumption and U.S. carbon pollution.  

To become a Public Benefit Corporation (B Corp), a firm must document its commitment to a specific public benefit as the purpose of the corporation and report regularly on its progress. This structural change is Pearl's first step toward certification as a B Corp. To achieve the certification, Pearl must demonstrate a commitment to its public benefit, commit to a high level of transparency regarding its activities and accountability to all stakeholders, not just owners.

Guardians will top box office again with $55 million

Guardians will top box office again with  million

The third Guardians of the Galaxy will take the top spot at the box office again ahead of next week’s Fast X debut.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 won’t be mixing it up this week, as it’s expected to remain at the top of the box office yet again. As of now, Guardians is projecting to pull in $54-55 million in its second weekend, with $15 million coming from Friday alone. While this is an approximately 54% drop from its debut last week, it’s still more than enough to keep the competition far away.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is still holding strong at the box office, draining another $13.3 million, which is good enough to take second again after dropping to that spot last week following the debut of the latest Guardians. Previously, it had held the top spot since debuting to an astonishing $200+ million during the April 7th-9th weekend.

While Guardians and Super Mario will reign, the top five at the box office this week only has one new movie. Book Club: The Next Chapter is looking to turn the page at $7 million across more than 3,500 theaters. The sequel to the 2018 movie will see numbers far lower than the 2018 original, which had an opening weekend of $13.6 million on just under 2,800 theaters. Comparing both per-theater numbers and final tallies, The Next Chapter might point the series towards the bargain bin. Still, reports suggest the movie, which has a cast of Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen, could get a small bump from a female-dominated Mother’s Day crowd.

Guardians was expected to drop at the box office this weekend, but it has fared far better than the previous Marvel outing, Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania, which took a 70% stumble in week two. The third Guardians made $118 million at the box office on opening weekend and can currently be seen on 4,450 screens. Fast X will undoubtedly put the brakes on its run at the top when it debuts next weekend.

Rounding out the top five is looking to be Evil Dead Rise and Judy Blume adaptation Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, in their fourth and third weekends, respectively. The anticipated $3.6 million take for Evil Dead Rise will help it widen its lead as the highest-grossing entry in the franchise.

The two entities have committed to removing 150,000 pounds of trash from the world's oceans through the 4ocean Pound+ Services, now through 2024. 

4ocean and U.S. Polo Assn.'s partnership began in early 2021 and successfully led to the removal of 60,000 pounds of plastic from the ocean, rivers, and coastlines. The two organizations worked together during that time towards ocean-positive sustainability with the help of 88 crew members and seven ocean vessels, with most of the waste being pulled in Indonesia across six specific beaches. This year's goal more than doubles the previous year's accomplishment.

The sequel to Gunfight at Rio Bravo, Taken from Rio Bravo, will be featured at the Cannes market later this month.

The upcoming western Taken from Rio Bravo has received its first trailer and we’re pleased to present it exclusively here on JoBlo!

The action-packed trailer starts off with an attempted robbery that results in juuuust about everybody getting a bullet to the chest courtesy of one nasty gunslinger. He joins forces with the seemingly more cautious sheriff, out to find his soon-to-be bride, nabbed by a group of bastards who take women over the border into Mexico. Judging by the trailer, Taken from Rio Bravo looks to be a tightly constructed picture with plenty of gunplay. And yes, that is our very own John Fallon in the trailer!

The official plot synopsis of Taken from Rio Bravo: “The action western sees the return of the mysterious Russian gunslinger who teams up with a sheriff in pursuit of a gang of sadistic human traffickers known as The Posse, who have kidnapped five women.”

The upcoming movie is a sequel to Gunfight at Rio Bravo, a highly enjoyable western actioner which came to theaters and home video earlier this year. As with the first, Joe Cornet (Incident at Guilt Ridge, A Prayer for the Damned) directs, while Craig Hamann (Showdown in Manila, Red Prophecies) has screenplay credit.

Taken from Rio Bravo stars Alexander Nevsky, who also led the aforementioned Showdown in Manila and Moscow Heat and is also a prominent bodybuilder who was named a three-time Mr. Universe. Director Cornet plays the plays, while the supporting cast includes Cynthia Rothrock, Irina Antonenko, Matthias Hues, Tatiana Neva, John Fallon and Don “The Dragon” Wilson.

Taken from Rio Bravo, which has been acquired by Premiere Entertainment, will be featured at this year’s Cannes market, which launches next week and runs until May 27th. As per the official release, Nevsky produced the film for Hollywood Storm alongside executive producers Eric Brenner for ETA Films, Joe Cornet for San Rafael Productions and Douglas “Fini” Finical.

Jamie Foxx has been out of the hospital for weeks now, according to an Instagram post by his daughter Corinne.

Jamie Foxx is officially out of the hospital — and has been for weeks now, according to his daughter, Corinne, who took to social media this week to finally give fans another update.

On her Instagram, Corinne posted that Jamie Foxx is well on his way to a full recovery, while also taking a jab at the media: “update from the family: Sad to see how the media runs wild. My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating. In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday! Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support!” Not to take umbrage with Corinne Foxx’s comment, but if the family was that concerned with speculation from the media (and fans), why not provide information and updates on a more frequent basis? Sure, specific medical details should be kept private, but considering Foxx is a beloved public figure, more facts could have quelled any online rumors and kept news outlets from “running wild.” If we had to guess, the lengthy gaps would only generate more questions…Foxx himself didn’t make his first public statement until May 3rd.

Even still, we’re glad Jamie Foxx is out of the hospital and getting back to normal–if we’re qualifying pickleball as “normal.” Last month, Corinne informed fans, “We wanted to share that my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday. Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery. We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time. Much love, The Foxx family.”

While Jamie Foxx was in the hospital, his latest movie, Back in Action, resumed production using a stunt and body double. He was also replaced as the host of Fox’s game show Beat Shazam by Nick Cannon, while Kelly Osbourne stepped in for Corinne as the show’s DJ. No release date has been set for Back in Action, but it will arrive on Netflix later this year or in early 2024.

Black Book's intensive study of population health data activation platforms and data management systems included the input of technology, clinical and financial leaders in hospitals, physician organizations, ambulatory care and ancillaries, health systems, and clinically integrated networks and rated on client experience by 2,539 participants in the crowdsourced survey from August 2022 to January 2023.

Ninety percent of healthcare IT leaders surveyed revealed their organizations are prioritizing data integration planning in 2023 and thirty percent have allocated funds to address the issue this budget year. In March 2020 at the start of the pandemic, two new rules were mandated to implement interoperability and patient access provisions of the 21st Century Cures Act. The rules promote FHIR as the foundational standard to support data exchange in healthcare putting provider IT users on alert. 

According to provider organizations surveyed, their need for health data integration is driven by rising provider costs including locating and avoiding duplicate and unnecessary procedures (90%), the growing volume of healthcare consumer data (82%), consumer demand on providers for health results (92%), and gaps in clinical device connectivity (97%).

Despite the rising need to reduce healthcare expenditure by using advanced operational technologies, there remain significant concerns related to data privacy hampering global healthcare IT integration market growth according to 96% of technology executives polled.

"'As health systems navigate the complexities of population health management, strains on the data ecosystem of hospitals can jeopardize progress," said Doug Brown, Managing Partner of Black Book Research. "Bringing together datasets from various sources is critical to enable population health efforts, but so far has proved to be a formidable challenge for payers and providers alike. Population health management technology is the transforming collecting, integrating, normalizing, and interpreting data from across care interactions, devices, apps, and settings and is critical in a value-based system."

In the sweeping Black Book survey of hospital IT users, population health management technologies were scored on eighteen PHM-centric key performance indicators including Strategic Alignment with Client Goals, Innovation, and Risk Models, Client Relationships and Cultural Fit, Trust and Accountability, Deployment and Implementation, Interoperability, Reliability, Financial Viability and Managerial Stability, Customer Care Support, and Best-of-Breed Technology.

Black Book Research announced that San Francisco-based Innovaccer achieved the top honor for highest provider user experience and outcomes in the annual 2023 customer polls and competitive research of twenty data activation platforms, data integration, and interoperability solutions. The IT leader achieved top client ratings across ten of eighteen key performance indicators including top cybersecurity and data privacy efforts, integration and interface execution, and quality client relationships and customer service. Innovaccer scored a mean of 9.64 (on the 1.00 to 10.00 scale.)

End-to-end provider Population Health Management Solutions included Data Integration Platforms, Data Aggregation and Analytics, Financial Costing and Bundling, Care Management, Risk Modeling, and Patient Outreach capabilities for software, services, and consultant firms.

Local residents Keith and Regan Farfone are tackling the deer damage issue in the Lowcountry one property at a time. The Farfones recently launched their new business Deer Solution, a deer repellent service franchise that helps shield landscapes.

The Farfones explained the reason behind their choice. "So many things about Deer Solution appealed to us, but the most important one is we know that damage to shrubs from deer is a huge issue in our territory. The only known solution is installing plants that deer are not attracted to, which limits options when landscaping. We know firsthand from friends and family that maintaining a beautiful yard is next to impossible while combating the deer population. We are thrilled to be able to offer an affordable, all-natural solution to the problem."
