Best Horror Movies On Netflix Right Now

Arrow in the Head presents a list of the top 10 Best Horror Movies On Netflix Right Now! Psycho, Blood Red Sky, Hush, and more!

We here at Arrow in the Head try to keep up with the horror selections on the biggest streaming services around, and as part of that endeavor, we have gone through the horror options on Netflix US to put together a top 10 list of the Best Horror Movies On Netflix Right Now.

Take note of the “Right Now” part of the subject line, because some of these films are not Netflix Originals and therefore could be removed from the streaming service at any time. If you want to watch them, be sure to start streaming in a timely manner or they may be gone!

Blood Red Sky Best Horror Movies on Netflix

BLOOD RED SKY (2021)

The “vampire vs. airplane hijackers” horror action thriller Blood Red Sky is a project director Peter Thorwarth had been wanting to make for 16 years before it was finally released, and his dedication to the concept paid off: within a month of its Netflix debut, it had already been watched in more than 50 million households around the globe. That’s not surprising, as it’s a film that can appeal to both horror fans and action fans. If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s well worth checking out. It’s fun, exciting, and at times emotional as we watch a vampire mother battle a group of dangerous criminals to keep her son (who is not a bloodsucker) safe during an international flight.

I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER (1997)

Between the releases of Scream and Scream 2, we got another “whodunit” slasher movie from screenwriter Kevin Williamson. Based on a novel by Lois Duncan (which was not a slasher story), I Know What You Did Last Summer may not be as clever as Williamson’s work on the Scream films was, but it’s still a highly entertaining teen horror movie. Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr., and Ryan Phillippe play a group of youths who try to cover up a hit and run one summer… and the next summer, someone wearing a slicker and wielding a hook shows up to make sure they pay for what they did. Mind games and bloodshed ensue.

FEAR STREET (2021)

Here’s a three-for-one special, as Netflix has released an entire trilogy of Fear Street films (inspired by the R.L. Stine book series) that director Leigh Janiak made back-to-back-to-back. Over the course of the trilogy, Janiak shows us horrific things that occurred in the cursed town of Shadyside in 1666, 1978, and 1994, allowing for the series to bring to mind films like The Witch, Friday the 13th, and Scream at different points along the way. The films tell the story of an evil entity that, every couple decades or so, possesses Shadysiders and drives them to kill. Janiak and her collaborators crafted an engaging story with some good twists and turns, and she brought it to the screen with cool style and an awesome soundtrack.

CRIMSON PEAK (2015)

Crimson Peak is a haunted house movie from director Guillermo del Toro, but don’t expect a lot of the chills and thrills to come from the supernatural forces in the film. As del Toro has said (and as a character says in the movie), “It’s not a ghost story, it’s a story with ghosts in it.” The story is about the strangeness that occurs when aspiring author Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska) moves into the titular, crumbling mansion with her new husband Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston) and his sister Lucille (Jessica Chastain) – and it’s the performances delivered by Hiddleston and Chastain that really make Crimson Peak worth checking out. Sir Thomas and Lucille are much creepier and more dangerous than any ghosts that might be lurking around.

ZOMBIELAND (2009)

Directed by Ruben Fleischer (Venom) from a script by future Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, Zombieland is a blast to watch, a horror comedy that follows four characters as they attempt to survive the zombie apocalypse. And locate some Twinkies. Jesse Eisenberg is frequently insufferable in movies, but he gives one of his best and most tolerable performances here, and has great chemistry with co-stars Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin. As is almost certainly common knowledge by now, Zombieland also features a show-stealing cameo by the great Bill Murray… playing Bill Murray. With a great sense of humor and some cool zombie moments, this movie a fun way to spend 88 minutes.

PSYCHO (1960)

I probably don’t need to tell you how amazing Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho is. It’s not only one of the best horror movies on Netflix right now, it’s one of the best movies ever made, period. Everyone knows the story: Bates Motel is run by Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), who’s burdened with taking care of his homicidal old mother. That’s what he believes, anyway. Hitchcock’s direction, the performances of the actors, the screenplay by Joseph Stefano (based on a novel by Robert Bloch, inspired by real world killer Ed Gein), the fantastic dialogue, the shocking moments of violence… Psycho is a masterwork in every department. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should head over to Netflix right away.

Hush Mike Flanagan Kate Siegel
HUSH (2016)

Mike Flanagan is one of the most interesting filmmakers we have working in the horror genre today, and thankfully he has a great set-up at Netflix. Their collaboration has given us the Stephen King adaptation Gerald’s Game, The Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor, and the upcoming series Midnight Mass – and it all started with Netflix releasing Hush. Starring Kate Siegel (who also wrote the script with Flanagan), this is a very simple and straightforward home invasion slasher, but it stands out from the pack of other films like this due to the fact that Siegel’s character Maddie is a strong, interesting, easy-to-root-for heroine who also happens to be deaf, which her attacker (John Gallagher Jr.) uses to his advantage when sneaking around in her house. Flanagan has several great entries on his filmography, and this 82 minute story of Heroine vs. Slasher in one secluded location ranks as one of his best.

THE CONJURING (2013)

Not many great movies have come out of the “Conjuring Universe”, but the main Conjuring movies are leagues above most of the spin-offs that have been released over the years. Director James Wan delivered one of the best haunted house movies of this century, and the greatest thing about it is the chemistry between Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as married paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Their interactions alone would make The Conjuring worth watching, but then Wan surrounds them with masterfully crafted scenes of suspense and jump scares as they try to rid a family’s home of an evil spirit and dig into a back story of Satanism and witchcraft.

Alive Best Horror movies on Netflix

#ALIVE (2020)

Some of my favorite films are zombie movies, but the sub-genre has gotten really played out in recent years. When zombies can be seen in TV shows every week, it’s tough to work up enthusiasm when a new zombie project shows up. The secret to success is to make sure the audience cares about the characters who have been dropped into the zombie apocalypse scenario, and that’s what Cho Il-hyung did with the South Korean film #Alive. #Alive centers on gamer Oh Joon-woo (Yoo Ah-In) who is home alone in his family’s apartment when the zombie outbreak hits. Low on food and water, worried about his family, Joon-woo is about to give up – until he realizes there’s a young woman (Park Shin-hye as Kim Yoo-bin) trapped in the building across from his. These are very likeable characters, and it’s fascinating to watch them struggle to survive with a horde of flesh-eating creatures waiting just outside their apartments.

THE CALL (2013)

Session 9 director Brad Anderson crafted a really entertaining thriller with The Call, which is about a teenage girl named Casey (Abigail Breslin), who has been abducted by a serial killer and stuck in the trunk of his car. Luckily, Casey manages to call 911 from the trunk, getting in contact with a dispatcher Jordan (Halle Berry), who stays on the phone with her throughout her ordeal, trying to coach her through the situation while the police desperately try to track her down and catch the killer. Packed with thrills and tense situations, The Call is a riveting film that became the #1 movie on Netflix for a while when it reached the streaming service earlier this year, nine years after it was first released.

Do you think these are the best horror movies on Netflix right now? What are some of your favorites?

Connected Health Initiative Publishes Study on Americans’ Use of Personal Health Wearables
Americans are hopeful wearables will become a critical tool for better health, look for reimbursement support

The Connected Health Initiative conducted a national poll of Americans asking how they wear, share, and pay for their wearable devices. With the surge in popularity of wearable health technology devices, including activity trackers, smartwatches, and smart clothing, the study found the majority of those who own wearables experienced improved health and fitness outcomes, but upfront costs prove to be a barrier for many.

How Americans wear their wearables:

  • More than 89 million Americans use a wearable device.
  • Of those Americans using a wearable, a majority of them track their exercise and fitness (86 percent), sleep (58 percent), and weight (51 percent).
  • Of those Americans using a wearable, 37 percent are managing a chronic condition.

How Americans share their wearable data:

  • Wearable health device owners currently, or are willing to, share this data with their healthcare provider: 82 percent.
  • Wearable health device owners with a chronic condition say their wearable device has simplified the management of their health, as well as improved their quality of life: 40 percent.

How Americans would like to pay for their wearable:

  • Millions of Americans have flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts (FSAs or HSAs), but they can't use them to purchase modern health technology. These accounts mainly benefit middle-income earners. An estimated 70 million Americans are covered by HSA accounts alone, with approximately 78 percent of account holders earning less than $100,000 annually—and 70 percent earning between $30,000 and $90,000.
  • Fifty-seven percent of HSA/FSA participants without a wearable say they would be more likely to acquire one if their HSA or FSA covered it.

About the Connected Health Initiative

CHI is the leading effort by stakeholders across the connected health ecosystem to responsibly encourage the use of digital health innovations and support an environment in which patients and consumers can see improvements in their health. We seek essential policy changes that will help all Americans benefit from an information and communications technology-enabled American healthcare system. For more information, see www.connectedhi.com.

This nationwide poll was conducted between April 21-23, 2023, among a sample of 2,204 adults. The interviews were conducted online, and the data were weighted to approximate a target sample of adults based on age, gender, race, educational attainment, region, gender by age, and race by educational attainment. Results from the full survey have a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.

Illinois-Based Compass Health Center to Launch College Readiness Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in Northbrook and Oak Brook This Summer

Illinois-Based Compass Health Center to Launch College Readiness Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in Northbrook and Oak Brook This Summer
More Than 40% of College Students Considered Withdrawing in 2022 Due to Emotional Stress; New College Readiness Program Addresses Mental Health Needs of Young Adults

Late adolescence and emerging adulthood (17-23) is a time of significant transition and stress. According to recent data, student mental health is significantly declining. When reflecting on the 2021-2022 school year, more than 40% of current college students considered withdrawing due to emotional stress.

To support students during this unique time of transition, Compass Health Center's Northbrook and Oak Brook locations are launching a College Readiness Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), running June 5 through August 11, 2023. The program is designed to help prepare students aged 17-23 as they transition to or return to college in the fall. Compass's specialized clinical team provides evidence-based skills necessary to make this transition a smooth one and empower students to thrive both academically and emotionally.

"We want to find ways to support our young adults with the transitions that occur as they launch into adulthood. Our goal is to create a space to help prepare them to better handle stressors, navigate interpersonal relationships, address the nuances of being a college student, design a system to address executive functioning challenges, and assist with healthy decision-making, amongst other challenges associated with young adulthood. We will provide them with the tools, resources, skills, and supports to set them up for success while normalizing the stressors associated with being a college student and entering adulthood," said Leslie Brankin, PsyD, Director of Young Adult and Adult Programming, Compass Health Center.

The program includes psychiatric evaluation and consultations, and individual, group, and family therapy. Groups, both skills-based and process-oriented, were created to specifically address the challenges faced by this population. Each participant will have their own treatment team, including a primary clinical therapist, family therapist, and psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner. The program will also provide caregivers and parents with their own support and resources.

"The College Readiness Program will support parents by providing tangible skills for communication, expectations, building independence, and exploring feelings about a young adult starting or returning to school," said Roz Lessem, Principal Family Therapist, Young Adult Program, Compass Health Center - Northbrook.

Stressors that students face today are vast and include coursework demands, navigating friendships and dating relationships, adjusting to living with a roommate, social injustice, mass violence, and grief and loss associated with living through the COVID-19 pandemic. The transition away from home can be challenging as it relates to learning how to be independent and autonomous, and this can be seen with students who struggle with time management, sleep hygiene, and independent goal setting.

Additionally, Compass Health Center has seen an uptick in stress and mental health challenges for young adults following the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only were students' lives and routines disrupted, but stress levels were also heightened, and mental health concerns became more prevalent

Compass's program could be beneficial for a young adult who answers 'yes' to any of the following:

  • Difficulty with decision-making?
  • Lack of independence and autonomy?
  • Anxious and worried about school (or not thinking about school enough)?
  • Avoidant tendencies?
  • Increased substance use?
  • Difficulty with concentration and focus?
  • Heightened anxiety related to socialization and making friends?
  • Trouble completing assignments or turning work in on time?
  • Lack of motivation to secure employment or volunteer opportunities?
  • Difficulty following through on household chores and expectations?

Compass's College Readiness IOP begins June 5, 2023, and is currently open for enrollment at its Northbrook and Oak Brook locations with rolling admission. For more information or questions about this program please call Compass Health Center at 877.552.6672 or visit compasshealthcenter.net

James Gunn won’t comment on Superman auditions

James Gunn won’t comment on Superman auditions

The search for the next Superman is narrowing, but DC’s James Gunn refuses to make comments on the audition process.

As the search for the next Superman picks up faster than a speeding bullet, James Gunn has yet again taken to social media, showing he’s able to leap internet speculation with a single tweet.

Responding to the ever-growing casting rumors of who is closest to landing the role of Superman, James Gunn took to Twitter to…comment about not commenting. In a post from this weekend, the DC head wrote, “For all of you asking, I would never comment on who is or isn’t AUDITIONING for a role. That’s the actor’s business only & isn’t something I’d make public unless they did it first after the fact (like @GlennHowerton or @ZacharyLevi having auditioned for Star-Lord & being top choices). For now, only one person has been CAST in Superman: Legacy, and it isn’t any of the regular players in the Superman world”, capped off by a merman emoji. Howerton has previously been tied (by fans, at least) to the role of Reed Richards in Marvel’s upcoming Fantastic Four movie, while Levi landed Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel–uh, we mean Shazam!–for DC.

Reports came out over the weekend that David Corenswet (who starred opposite Mia Goth in Pearl) could be the next man to don the cape, edging out names like Jacob Elordi, Tom Brittney and Andrew Richardson, although these individuals apparently never got far in the process. Nicholas Hoult (Renfield), meanwhile, looks to be the frontrunner for Lex Luthor, while names that have circled Lois Lane incklude Phoebe Dyvenor (Bridgerton), Rachel Brsonahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) and Samara Weaving (Scream VI). While Gunn will keep mum over those that auditioned, he did basically confirm that superdog Krypto would be in the next Superman movie, titled Superman: Legacy. Screen tests are expected to begin sometime after Memorial Day.

Superman: Legacy will hit theaters on July 11th, 2025, launching the movie portion of DC’s “Gods and Monsters” chapter that is hoping to put them in proper competition with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Gunn was able to complete writing his Superman script before the WGA strike.

Who do you hope James Gunn approves for the role of Superman? Should he go with an unknown or cast a more popular actor? Give us your hopes for the Man of Steel in the comments section below!

This collaboration will enable Glidewell's network of dentists to harness the power of AI to further advance patient care, opening the door to new opportunities and practice growth."

The glidewell.io In-Office Solution also uses AI technology to create single-visit restorations made from BruxZir® NOW fully sintered zirconia and other industry-leading materials. This affordable AI-driven chairside CAD/CAM system gives clinicians full control over the restorative process and makes it simple to provide patients with high-quality, convenient treatment options while increasing practice profitability. With the addition of Overjet's AI platform, dentists will now be able to perform more accurate diagnoses and offer more comprehensive treatment options to their patients.

Glidewell's partnership with Overjet is the latest of its creative solutions to ensure that clinicians can take advantage of a digital lab without significantly altering their workflows.

Founded by experts from MIT and Harvard School of Dentistry, Overjet develops accurate and quantified ways to detect pathologies and integrates actionable insights into workflows. Every day, private practices, dental groups and insurance companies rely on the accurate information provided by Overjet to drive care and service to patients. Learn more at www.overjet.com.
