Talk Show Host Harvey Brownstone to Make US Debut by Holding Event at NYC’s Stonewall Inn on June 5
NYC Pride Month Launched at the Historic Stonewall Inn With Discussion, Song

Canadian author and talk show host Harvey Brownstone will be making his official debut in the US by holding an event on Monday, June 5 from 5-9 p.m. at New York City's historic Stonewall Inn, the birthplace of LGBTQ Liberation, for an in-depth discussion about his life, careers, and his "Interviews" program.

Just Who is Harvey Brownstone?

For the many residing south of Niagara's Rainbow Bridge, the celebrity host with an audience of five million+ may not be immediately recognizable, but his legend and impact are unmistakable. The former Canadian judge — that nation's first openly gay jurist — made history by marrying countless same-sex couples, earning a 2008 Proclamation by New York State Senator Tom Duane. Most notably, Brownstone officiated at the ceremony of Edie Windsor whose union triggered the Supreme Court litigation ushering in legal marriage for LGBTQ people across the U.S.

During his years on the bench, Brownstone also became a best-selling author with the groundbreaking "Tug of War: A Judge's Verdict on Separation, Custody Battles and the Bitter Realities of Family Court," leading to numerous appearances in media, but his lifelong desire to host celebrated actors and writers became a reality only following retirement from law. Since its debut in 2021, "Harvey Brownstone Interviews" has counted Louis Gossett Jr., Linda Evans, Sir Tim Rice, Robert Wagner, Louise Sorel, Ruta Lee, and even the elusive 93-year-old Mamie van Doren among his notable guests. The show is broadcast globally on Brownstone's own YouTube channel as well as XPTV1 throughout the U.K., among other sources. Honoring the show, the Breakfast at Dominique's fair trade, environmentally friendly coffee company will premiere its "Talk Show Blend," suited to Brownstone's specific taste.

Most recently, Grammy-nominated songwriter Harriet Schock ("Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady"), moved by Brownstone's "coming out" story, composed "I Am Yours," a soon-to-be released single by vocalist Gary Lynn Floyd. The event at the Stonewall Inn, the birthplace of LGBTQ Liberation, will anchor Brownstone's New York City debut with in-depth discussion about his life, careers, and his "Interviews" program. Floyd will fly in to perform "I Am Yours" among other selections, and award-winning mixologist Maria Gentile will be crafting her own version of the Harvey Wallbanger, and further favorite libations.

What is Debt Consolidation and How Can It Help You?

What is Debt Consolidation and How Can It Help You?

iQuanti: Debt consolidation is the process of merging two or more smaller debts into one large debt. This is typically done with a debt consolidation loan or low-interest credit card. These types of loans can be found at traditional banks, credit unions, and online lenders. This article will cover some of those options and explain how debt consolidation can help you.

Merging your debts with a consolidation loan

One goal of using a debt consolidation loan to pay off other outstanding debt is lowering your total monthly payments. Ideally, you'll want to reduce the interest rate you pay on the debt. Credit card interest is high. Personal loan interest is typically lower, and you can stretch the loan out over several years. That could result in a smaller monthly financial obligation, but depending on how long it takes to repay the loan, it could cost you more when all is said and done.

Transferring debt to a low-interest credit card

You may be able to transfer high-APR credit card debt to a different credit card with a lower APR or a credit card offering an introductory or promotional zero APR balance transfer option. Those rates are typically available for those with very good or excellent credit scores, but it doesn't hurt to search for either option, even if your score is average or low. If you ask, the issuer of your current credit card might even have a lower APR option for the balance you already have.

The potential savings benefit of these options is obvious. Be careful, though. Low or zero balance transfer rates are temporary. While the APR may be in effect for six months or a year, if your balance hasn't been paid in full when the introductory or promotional period ends, the APR will go up to the higher contract rate.

Remember, even if the APR is low or 0%, there is a percentage-based or flat transaction fee you pay at the start, you still have a monthly minimum to pay, and the card may have an annual fee, too. Read the terms and conditions of these card offers very carefully.

How can debt consolidation help you?

Debt consolidation can provide a fresh start to someone struggling to make ends meet. It's not difficult to get deeply into debt with credit cards. Between online shopping and paying for everyday expenses like gas and take-out food, those balances go up quickly. Taking out a debt consolidation loan to condense them all into one monthly payment can make budgeting simpler.

Debt consolidation is not meant to cure all your financial problems. One caveat is that a change in spending behavior is required to make it work. It may be beneficial to put away credit cards after you pay them off with a consolidation loan. Using them again will simply add to your debt. Many consumers fall into this trap.

Is debt consolidation right for you?

Debt consolidation isn't the answer for everyone, but it can be a good option for you after doing further research. Weigh the pros and cons of taking out a debt consolidation loan to pay off credit cards and look into low-APR or zero-APR balance transfer credit card offers.

Debt consolidation is only part of the solution when it comes to getting out of debt. To truly get finances under control, forming better spending habits is essential. This means being mindful of spending, creating a budget, and then sticking to it.

Gladiator 2 brings back Connie Nielsen and adds Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn

Gladiator 2 brings back Connie Nielsen and adds Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn

The sequel to the Ridley Scott Roman colosseum epic adds more impressive names to an already exciting cast.

As the production of the sequel to Ridley Scott’s Oscar-winning Gladiator continues to take shape, chalk down two more names added to an already impressive cast. Once Scott officially confirmed he’d be returning to the sword and sandals movie, Hollywood had every up-and-coming actor pining for a role. While the main two stars of the original, Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix, would be counted out as returning characters, Deadline reports that one familiar face which Scott will be bringing back is Connie Nielsen, who reprises her role as Lucilla.

Lucilla is the mother of Lucious, who has been promoted to the main character of this film, and this older version will be portrayed by Paul Mescal. While the two main characters of the first had completed their arcs, Scott made sure there was still a connection and wanted to involve Nielsen as much as he could during the story development period. For this film, Lucious, now grown, had been influenced by Crowe’s Maximus and is determined to follow his example as a formidable figure in a harsh world.

Additionally, Joseph Quinn is said to be in negotiations to play Emperor Caracalla for the untitled sequel. Quinn made a breakthrough as a scene-stealing character in the most recent season of Stranger Things as fan-favorite, Eddie Munson. He is already working with Paramount after they saw his Munson performance and cast him in the spin-off to A Quiet Place, titled A Quiet Place: Day One. According to insiders, the execs at Paramount are already impressed with Quinn’s performance in Day One as he held his own acting opposite Academy Award-winning actress, Lupita Nyong’o.

The Gladiator sequel has already attached names like Denzel Washington and The Banshees of Inisherin‘s Barry Keoghan to the cast. Scott will be returning to produce with his company, Scott Free, in addition to directing the film. He will be joined in producing duties by Michael Pruss, alongside Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher of Red Wagon Entertainment. David Scarpa writer of The Man in High CastleAll the Money in the World, and The Day the Earth Stood Still is penning the script.

Kitsap Physical Therapy Chooses OccuPro to Better Serve Injured Workers

Kitsap Physical Therapy Chooses OccuPro to Better Serve Injured Workers
OccuPro and Kitsap Physical Therapy partner to get injured workers back to work faster and safer in Washington state.

OccuPro and Kitsap Physical Therapy recently partnered to better serve workers in the Seattle area to recover from workplace injuries through high-level workers' compensation and industrial rehabilitation documentation. As a leader in workers' compensation rehabilitation, Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE), and work conditioning documentation for over two decades, OccuPro's software was a natural choice to implement for the eight area clinics.

Kitsap Physical Therapy and Sports Clinics' mission is to be its region's premier provider of physical and occupational services. Included in its broad portfolio is a team of clinicians who share information and skills dedicated to industrial rehabilitation. This is done with unique interventions including work conditioning, work simulation-based exercises, and fitness-level testing to ensure the injured worker meets the demands listed for their occupation.

Through the years, Kitsap began to realize it needed a software system to help unify documentation, communication, and reporting. "We wanted something more appealing for our referral sources — give them easy-to-read yet thorough reports in order to help them get their patient back to work safely and trust us as a provider," said Garrett Kitchel, Kitsap's head industrial therapist. "OccuPro provides us standardized processes for our many therapists and the continuing education and support we need."

OccuPro's FCE and Return-to-Work Software offers users quick, efficient, and time-saving workers' compensation-specific testing and reporting. The approach OccuPro has taught Kitsap Physical Therapy is considered the most profitable approach to treating injured workers on the market. OccuPro's testing methodologies are peer-reviewed for reliability and validity, in addition to yearly research to stay ahead of industry standards.

"Kitsap Physical Therapy is the longest-standing private therapy practice in the state of Washington. We are a multi-specialty group practice," stated Dave Damon, CEO of Kitsap. "Occupational injury rehabilitation, prevention, and wellness are areas we enjoy focusing on, and by implementing OccuPro's software, we've been able to be more competitive in the market with added industry knowledge and the ability to provide referral sources fast comprehensive reports — resulting in serving more patients. Treating injured workers has been a critical aspect of our mission for decades. It takes experience and a coordinated focus on communication with claims managers, employers, vocational counselors, and medical providers to find solutions to modify work, if needed, and get the injured back to work as quickly yet safely as possible. We realize this requires a unique skill and knowledge set, and this is why we treat occupational health and injuries as one of our special focus areas. All our specialties involve what we call Special Interest Groups, with member clinicians meeting together throughout the year to study and plan together to deliver the best products we can offer our community."

"We are thrilled to have Kitsap Physical Therapy join the OccuPro family of clinics. Just like the thousands of clinics that have already partnered with us, we are excited to see Kitsap Physical Therapy grow their workers' compensation market share in the state of Washington," stated Chief Operations Officer Jim Mecham.

Established in 2002, OccuPro has developed the industry's most respected workers' compensation documentation system used by all the major workers' compensation insurance carriers/payors. OccuPro's worldwide customers have performed over 200,000 FCEs and the reports are generally considered to be the easiest reports to decipher on the market. OccuPro's software, training, and certification programs are industry-leading services that boost a rehabilitation clinic's overall net revenue within weeks of implementation.

Chi Botanic Inc. Awarded Competitive USDA SBIR Phase I Grant for Plant Cell-Cultured Vanilla

Chi Botanic Inc. Awarded Competitive USDA SBIR Phase I Grant for Plant Cell-Cultured Vanilla
Small Business Innovative Research Program Provides $175,000 in Funding for Chi Botanic's Sustainable Vanilla Technology

ChiBotanic Inc. is pleased to announce that its research and commercialization project for a new cell-cultured Vanilla 2.0 technology for a plant-based full-spectrum natural vanilla flavor has been awarded a highly competitive Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Phase I Award of $175,000 from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA).

The proposal, "Vanilla 2.0: A reliable, sustainable, domestic supply of authentic Vanilla planifolia flavor and fragrance," will help support Chi Botanic's efforts to solve the many problems facing the natural vanilla supply chain, including a very difficult, laborious, slow-growing agricultural crop limited to tropical climates representing biodiversity hotspots. Political instability and extreme weather in regions where vanilla is grown further contribute to severe price fluctuations.

The technology Chi Botanic is creating will achieve a Vanilla planifolia plant cell culture that can be grown inexpensively anywhere and produce high concentrations of vanillin plus the many other flavor and fragrance metabolites of real vanilla. Major advantages to creation of a plant cell suspension culture specialized for production of the distinctive blend of vanilla phenylpropanoids are as follows:

  • Increased value of a complex, plant-based vanilla product over the inferior synthetic vanillin that makes up 99% of the vanilla flavor on the market today.
  • Unlike other synthetic biology-based methods, the system will provide the sustainability of fermentation-type methods, yet the end-product will be as complex as pure vanilla extract, which the FDA strictly defines as from vanilla seed pods. Thus, the Chi Botanic product will initially be labeled as "natural vanilla flavor" due to the source plant (Vanilla planifolia) from which the culture is derived, though not strictly from seed pods.
  • Economically viable, domestic production with tight control of quality and composition. Co-location with product manufacturing possible.
  • Faster growing, processing, and production times compared to farm-grown vanilla.
  • Over 18,000 products contain vanillin, yet less than 1% is sourced from the plant (Sethi, 2017). Chi Botanic's own market research with potential enterprise customers has proven an eagerness to assess and willingness to pay a premium for our proposed product, with one of the world's largest suppliers of vanilla quoted as "dreaming of the day" when this could be possible.

HSG Advisors Guides Healthcare Leaders With Newly Released 2023 Provider Compensation Survey Results
The data provides insight on Work Relative Value compensation models and incentives

HSG Advisors 2023 Provider Compensation Survey Data

HSG Advisors 2023 Provider Compensation Survey results show predominant compensation models used by organizations.

HSG Advisors, a national healthcare consulting firm, released results and analysis of its 2023 Provider Compensation Survey — designed to gather key details behind changes in industry benchmarks and perspectives on compensation structure. The company will also release in-depth analyses of the results over the course of several months to assess different factors impacting provider compensation. The initial release offers new findings on Work Relative Value Units ("wRVUs") and wRVU-based compensation models and incentive structures, so healthcare leaders can make informed decisions as they update their compensation models.

To date, the survey has responses from more than 30 organizations across 13 different states. Of these survey respondents, over 70% indicated that wRVUs play a role in determining providers' compensation. Specifically, respondents indicated that the primary compensation model in their respective organizations is:

  • Straight wRVU productivity (15%),
  • Base + wRVU productivity incentives (27%), or
  • Base + wRVU productivity incentives + non-productivity incentives (27%).

"HSG conducts compensation surveys to glean real-time insights on changes in the fast-evolving provider compensation marketplace and provide guidance to healthcare leaders on how they can best respond to those changes," says Dr. Terrence R. McWilliams, Chief Clinical Officer and co-author of the survey report.

The survey results also cover responses to questions regarding COVID-19 impact, patient volume recovery, adoption of the 2021 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule, Fair Market Value considerations, and rate determinations. HSG's advice for 2023-2024 includes:

  • Consideration of the varied adoption of the 2021 MPFS wRVU values from organization to organization.
  • Evaluating compensation-to-wRVU alignment based on a predictive wRVU model that factors in pre-COVID wRVUs (i.e., 2020 reports based on 2019 data).
  • Focus on rate to determine the desired alignment of compensation and wRVU production.
  • Awareness that individual data points should not be utilized in a vacuum to set compensation per wRVU rates.

"Published compensation per wRVU ratios in the national survey data is a useful benchmark, but there is more to the story," McWilliams says. "HSG recommends a measured and intentional approach when determining the compensation per wRVU rates used in the calculation of thresholds (or targets) and bonus conversion factors, and we advise using the compensation and productivity tables to calculate rates."

The survey is conducted within the firm's core Compensation and Compliance service line. The report was co-authored by Neal Barker, Partner at HSG Advisors.

HSG Advisors is a national healthcare consulting firm headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. The practice empowers leaders to build differentiated health system strategies and high-performing employed physician networks by pairing data intelligence with experienced advice. The firm's comprehensive approach to leveraging market facts to inform healthcare strategies allows leaders to understand opportunities and deliver the right care to their communities.
