NovaSight CureSight (TM) Wins 2023 MedTech Breakthrough Award
CureSight™ Amblyopia treatment device named "Best New Technology Solution for Ophthalmology" for its innovation, impact, and market potential

NovaSight, a pediatric-focused eyecare MedTech company, announced today that its CureSight binocular digital treatment system for amblyopia (lazy eye) has been named "Best New Technology Solution for Ophthalmology" in the 7th annual MedTech Breakthrough Awards program. The award program is conducted by MedTech Breakthrough, an independent market intelligence organization that recognizes the top companies, technologies, and products in the global health and medical technology market.

NovaSight provides pediatric patients with eye-tracking based digital vision care solutions by focusing on three major verticals: treatment, diagnostics, and prevention of visual health impairments.

CureSight is an FDA-cleared and CE marked eye-tracking based amblyopia treatment system, designed to replace the traditional eye patching. The treatment is carried out while the patient watches his favorite streamed content from the comfort of his home. By tracking the gaze position of the dominant eye in real-time, the CureSight system blurs its center of vision, while keeping the rest of the image sharp - and providing the amblyopic eye with a normal, high contrast image. This stimulates the brain to complete the blurred image from the amblyopic eye, improving its acuity and developing stereoacuity as the eyes learn to work together.

"Amblyopia, or what's known as 'lazy-eye' affects three percent of the population and puts the patients at risk for eventual vision loss. The gold standard treatment for lazy eye has so far consisted of placing a patch over the strong eye - an old-fashioned solution which suffers from very low compliance," said James Johnson, managing director, MedTech Breakthrough. "With the breakthrough of CureSight's binocular treatment from NovaSight, children develop stereoscopic vision, which is difficult to achieve with the monocular nature of the traditional patching treatment. This breakthrough technology helps to shift treatment into the digital age and we are thrilled to congratulate the NovaSight team for taking home a well-deserved 2023 MedTech Breakthrough Award."

The mission of the MedTech Breakthrough Awards is to honor excellence and recognize the innovation, hard work and success in a range of health and medical technology categories, including Telehealth, Clinical Administration, Patient Engagement, Electronic Health Records (EHR), Virtual Care, Medical Devices, Medical Data and many more. This year's program attracted more than 4,000 nominations from over 17 different countries throughout the world.

"We are proud to be named 'Best New Technology Solution for Ophthalmology' acknowledging our mission to prevent vision impairments among pediatric patients by developing solutions that are specifically designed for the unique needs and attention span of children" said Ran Yam, NovaSight co-founder and CEO. "In a recent pivotal trial which was the basis for our FDA approval, we compared the improvement in visual outcomes (visual acuity and stereoacuity) achieved by CureSight versus the traditional eye patch. This is the first ever pivotal trial where a digital device was shown to be non-inferior to eye patching for amblyopia treatment in children. We will continue to strive to change the lives of millions of children by introducing eye tracking based vision care solutions."

Additionally, the CureSight system is connected to a dedicated cloud platform which allows the physician to monitor treatment progress and compliance remotely. The eye care provider receives a comprehensive patient vision summary, and progress reports and real-time monitoring of the child's treatment are easily accessible.

CureSight was officially launched in the US and Italy earlier this year with exceptional early adoption by the pediatric ophthalmology community and their patients. Equipped with 3 unique CPT codes in the US assigned by the American Medical Association (AMA) last year, NovaSight is pursuing broad coverage with the aim of making CureSight easily accessible to patients whose future vision and eye health depend on the treatment that they receive in their early years.

Legacy Suite is Paving the Secure Way in the Digital Asset Revolution
The fast pace of crypto adoption requires the safeguarding of digital assets.

Legacy Suite VP Chris Bramwell

A developer of digital asset management solutions, including password managers and crypto wallets, Legacy Suite is enhancing its innovation in digital security and efficiency by safeguarding key digital assets as cryptocurrency continues its climb in the world of finance.

According to a special report on crypto adoption, cryptocurrency users are expected to hit one billion next year. Growing at a rate of over 100% a year, cryptocurrency users have adopted the blockchain industry even faster than the adoption of the internet back in the 1990s. It is expected that one in eight people worldwide will interact with or use crypto in some way in 2024.

"There is a digital asset revolution going on with the mainstream's acceptance of blockchain and cryptocurrency," said Legacy Suite VP Chris Bramwell. "Digital assets, such as cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), are already revolutionizing the way we think about and handle money, ownership, and the way we do business."

The digital asset revolution is reinventing financial services through cryptocurrencies with scalability, interoperability, and ease of use. If Bitcoin was the spark for the financial services revolution, then digital assets are expediting the revolution. Blockchain is altering many aspects of the global economy.

"Blockchain technology, the underlying technology that powers these digital assets, has the potential to transform many industries beyond finance, from healthcare to supply chain management," Bramwell said.

Four Important Components to the Digital Asset Revolution

  • Decentralization: Blockchain technology enables decentralization, which means that data and assets can be stored and exchanged without the need for intermediaries such as banks, governments, or other centralized authorities. "This could lead to more transparent, efficient, and secure systems, where people have greater control over their own data and assets," Bramwell said.
  • Security: Blockchain technology is inherently secure because of its decentralized and distributed nature making it difficult for someone to tamper with the data or assets stored on a blockchain and leading to increased trust and confidence in online transactions and reducing the risk of fraud and cyber-attacks.
  • Efficiency: Digital assets and blockchain technology can enable faster, cheaper, and more efficient transactions. For example, cross-border payments can be settled instantly with minimal fees using cryptocurrencies and without the need for traditional banking intermediaries. "This could increase financial inclusion and reduce the cost of doing business globally," Bramwell said.
  • Ownership and identity: Digital assets and blockchain technology can facilitate new forms of ownership and identity. For example, NFTs can represent unique digital assets such as artwork or music, which can be bought, sold, and traded like physical assets. "This could lead to new ways of monetizing creative work and could give artists more control over their own intellectual property," Bramwell said.

Digital assets are transforming the financial industry with crypto experiencing developments in defining ownership and value transfer while blockchain is decentralizing finance and disrupting Wall Street.

Legacy Suite's innovative digital asset management continues to evolve with convenience and safety for important digital assets providing digital security, power of attorney, and estate planning.

Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret Review

Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret Review

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSr1OShCNwE

PLOT: A young girl finds herself struggling after her family moves away from the city. Based on the popular novel of the same name, by Judy Blume.

REVIEW: My recollection of Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret is very vague. I knew Judy Blume and had perhaps read some of her books, but not this tale of a preteen girl. So even with the talent involved, I wasn’t excited about the movie. And then, I sat down for a screening. Perhaps it was the charms of the lovely and vibrant Rachel McAdams as Margaret’s mom? Sure. How about the excellent work of Kathy Bates as Margaret’s loving grandmother? Yes, yes, yes. And then there is the terrific Abby Ryder Fortson as Margaret. Yet, the superstar here is writer/director Kelly Fremon Craig. Let’s dig in and see if Margaret’s prayers get answered.

Margaret (Fortson) is a happy girl living with her adorably quirky parents, played by McAdams and Benny Safdie. That is until they move to a quaint suburban neighborhood, far from the city the young girl loved. Once they arrive and settle in, Margaret finds herself starting over. With a couple of new friends, Nancy (Elle Graham) and Price (Amari Alexis), the three girls start a bit of a competition regarding growing into womanhood. Even still, being away from her grandmother (the excellent Kathy Bates) takes its toll on the young girl. Will Margaret discover a religion she can connect to? And will she finally adjust to her new surroundings? Well, it’s certainly a joy to find those answers.

It’s easy to walk into a film like this and think it’s not for you. And yet, I was fully engaged in the humor and heart of it all. The big-screen adaptation of Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret is delightful. It’s fast, fun, and surprisingly engaging for audiences of all ages. Kelly Fremon Craig is brilliant at creating stories far more universal than one might expect. She did wonders with the excellent The Edge of Seventeen. And while Margaret takes on a slightly younger leading character, the filmmaker never skimps on writing great supporting ones. The care that she has taken with the source material is especially notable.

It also helps that Abby Ryder Fortson is fantastic in the leading role. The young actress brings such warmth to Margaret. As Hailee Steinfeld did in The Edge of Seventeen, Abby brings honesty to her performance. The young actress is a major talent, and watching her opposite Bates and McAdams, it’s clear that she will be following in a few impressive footsteps. If you can connect to Margaret, the film works. And thankfully, she conveys all the heartbreak and happiness of a preteen girl searching for herself. It’s an excellent performance that is made stronger by the lovely script by Craig.

In addition to the film’s star, the supporting cast is equally enjoyable. Rachel McAdams and Benny Safdie are stellar as Margaret’s loving but flawed parents. As well, Kathy Bates shines as a grandmother who adores her granddaughter. The two share moments together that are effortlessly sweet. Even Margaret’s friends, played by Elle Graham and Amari Alexis Price, get a chance to shine. When a script treats every character involved with respect and care, it creates an accessible and entertaining experience. If you are going to bring author Judy Blume to the big screen, well, this is how you do it.

It would help if you never judged a book by its cover. At least regarding the terrific new feature, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. Kelly Fremon Craig is one of the brightest up-and-coming directors out there. The filmmaker has created heartfelt and honest portraits of young women with both this and The Edge of Seventeen. And building solid and vibrant stories like this that can connect to audiences all across the board is an incredible skill. For those of you that were obsessed with Judy Blume’s work, you are in for a treat. What about if you have yet to learn who Blume is? It doesn’t matter. Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret is one of the funniest and most charming summer films this year.

Restricting Flavored E-Cigarettes May Reduce Their Use Among Teens and Young Adults: Study

Restricting Flavored E-Cigarettes May Reduce Their Use Among Teens and Young Adults: Study

No smoking sign

No smoking sign

Getting many adolescents and young adults to stop using e-cigarettes may be as simple as doing away with flavored versions of the product, according to new research in the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs. This study suggests that a large majority of current users may discontinue their use if the product became available in the tobacco version only.

"The restriction of the availability for certain e-cigarette e-liquid flavors has been considered by various regulatory agencies," says senior study author Alayna P. Tackett, Ph.D., of the Center for Tobacco Research at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. "Our team was interested in surveying youth and young adults to understand their thoughts on what choices they might make should regulatory policies only allow menthol and/or tobacco flavors in e-cigarette e-liquid products."

The researchers used a national sample of 1,414 e-cigarette users ages 14 to 21. All had used the product at least once daily in the 30 days before completing the survey. They were asked which flavors they typically used (tobacco, menthol, cool mint, fruit ice or fruit/sweet).

When asked what they would do if a hypothetical federal regulation meant that tobacco and menthol-flavored e-liquids were the only options available, 38.8% said they would discontinue e-cigarette use. That number jumped to 70.8% if tobacco became the only option. Adolescents and young adults who preferred vaping fruit or sweet flavors were most sensitive to either restricted scenario compared with other flavor preferences.

Tackett also found it interesting that adolescents and young adults using flavors with cooling additives (e.g., fruit ice) reported higher odds of discontinuing use under a tobacco-only product standard, compared with menthol flavor users, indicating an important distinction between these groups. (Fruit ice are e-cigarette flavors that have a fruit base characterizing flavor with a cooling additive such as menthol or a synthetic cooling agent.)

"In this sample of adolescents and young adults, it appears that non-tobacco flavors may be important for their interest in and continued use of e-cigarettes," she said.

It is unknown if the current self-reported intentions would extend to real-world behavior and how this may impact use or uptake of other tobacco products. Future research might benefit from examining this scenario in states that have enacted a flavor restriction policy.

Cigarette smoking remains the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. Tackett says preventing use of e-cigarettes among young people is a crucial goal for public health, but she also points to the potential impact of e-cigarette regulation on adults who smoke and have begun using e-cigarettes as an alternative to quitting altogether.

"Many adults prefer using non-tobacco flavors to switch from combustible cigarettes to e-cigarettes," says Tackett. "Flavor restriction policies should consider the best ways to protect public health while also supporting adults who are interested in choosing potentially less harmful alternatives to combustible cigarettes."

Sisu Review

0
Sisu Review

An action-packed blend of Mad Max and Inglourious Basterds, Jalmari Helander’s Sisu is a gory, gruesome, and excellent ride.

Plot: When an ex-soldier who discovers gold in the Lapland wilderness tries to take the loot into the city, Nazi soldiers led by a brutal SS officer battle him.

Review: If you saw John Wick: Chapter 4 in the theater, chances are you saw the trailer for Sisu. The brutally bloody teaser showcased the same level of carnage we have expected from David Leitch films like Nobody and Bullet Train, but Sisu is very different. Harkening to the bloodlust one feels dispatching Nazis in games like Wolfenstein 3D or in zombie films like Dead Snow and Iron Sky; Sisu is chock full of World War II German monsters getting what they deserve in every conceivable way as well as some you likely never would have thought up in a million years. Lionsgate is betting that American audiences will appreciate Sisu much like they did Inglourious Basterds, and I can confirm that they absolutely will. Sisu is a violent and epic odyssey across the wild Finnish countryside featuring a badass action-hero character who earns a spot alongside John Wick and Mad Max.

Using throwback title cards and graphics that recall exploitation flicks of the 1960s and 1970s, Sisu briefly explains that the title refers to a Finnish word that cannot be translated but roughly means the grit, determination, and resilience of the Scandinavian people. We then see a brief history lesson about the Nazis being driven from Finland due to the Moscow accord, which did not stop them from scorching the Earth as they retreated. We then find ourselves following prospector Aatami Korpi (Jorma Tommila), a solitary man who wears a wedding ring and digs for gold alone in the remote area of Lapland. With only his dog, Korpi strikes it rich and heads back towards civilization when he runs into a death squad of Germans led by Bruno Helldorf (Aksel Hennie). When the troops discover the gold, a violent chase across the wasteland ensues, with Korpi killing every Nazi. Along the way, we learn how Korpi became the one-man army he has become.

Over the brisk ninety-minute running time, Sisu manages to cram in many different types of action. From snipers to minefields, airplanes to motorcycles, underwater deaths to hangings and explosions, Sisu is far more violent than even the trailers let on. The desolate look of Lapland made me think of this film as being closer to Mad Max: Fury Road than John Wick. There is gunplay and hand-to-hand combat, but there is so much more going on here than the trailers show. Interestingly, the film features Finnish characters speaking their native tongue, but all German characters speak English. There is also not a lot of dialogue overall in the film, with Jorma Tommila uttering only eleven words in the entire movie. Keanu Reeves may have set a record in John Wick: Chapter 4, Sisu blows away that screen time ratio to dialogue. Tommila, who is 59, does an amazing job of physically embodying Korpi and communicating his visceral nature through scowls and a furrowed brow. It is a stellar performance.

The supporting players here are mostly cannon fodder, with the exception of Aksel Hennie. Best known for roles in The Martian and The Cloverfield Paradox, Hennie plays a selfish and rough Nazi who selfishly wants the gold as he knows Germany is poised to lose the war. Like any main villain, Hennie sends his henchman after Korpi and eventually has a one-on-one showdown with his nemesis. Of the other Nazis, standouts are Jack Doolan as the sniper, Wolf, and Tommila’s son Onni who plays Schutze. Mimosa Willamo plays a captured Finnish woman named Aino who explains Korpi and the meaning of sisu to the Nazis. Of the entire cast, there are probably only about thirty minutes of the film featuring spoken dialogue, with the rest taken up by action sequences or starkly beautiful landscape shots of the characters following each other across Lapland. Sisu is a desolate film in appearance but still surprisingly beautifully shot.

Writer/director Jalmari Helander is no stranger to violent action in his movies, having directed the Christmas action-horror movie Rare Exports and the Samuel L. Jackson flick Big Game which co-starred Ommi Tommila. Helander is brother-in-law to star Jorma Tommila and has given his family some stellar roles in his films. Here, Helander echoes great movies like First Blood, whose main character, Rambo, shares much in common with Korpi. In fact, if Rambo had been set during World War II, it likely would have looked a lot like this film. Like First Blood, there is far more than excessive violence that makes Sisu worth watching. Tommila’s performance is absolutely stunning to watch as he does everything from shielding himself using dead Nazis to finding a disturbing way to hold his breath underwater. Everyone from Kevin Smith to Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez would have loved this type of movie as kids, passing around VHS copies to their friends. This movie is a blast with a fitting retro look and sound courtesy of cinematographer Kjell Lagerroos and composers Juri Seppa and Tuomas Wainoia.

Sisu,Lionsgate,Action

While many audiences may shy away from a foreign film because of subtitles, Sisu is almost entirely in English but does not need much dialogue to tell its story. Sisu is bloody, brutal, and absolutely awesome. Clocking in at half the length of John Wick: Chapter 4, Sisu is a non-stop bloodbath that I immediately wanted to rewatch as soon as it was over. There are no famous Hollywood stars here, but this movie is worth seeing on the biggest screen possible. So grab some popcorn and a soda and sit back while Nazis get blown away amidst satisfying buckets of blood.

Xeno: Becky star Lulu Wilson takes the lead in alien invasion film

Becky star Lulu Wilson has signed on to play the lead in the alien invasion film Xeno, featuring an alien created by the Henson Company

Annabelle: Creation and Becky star Lulu Wilson, who is soon to be seen in The Wrath of Becky, has signed on to star in the alien invasion film Xeno for writer, director, and VFX Artist Matthew Loren Oates. Deadline reports that Wilson is joined in the cast by Omari Hardwick (Power) and Trae Romano (Stargirl).

Set to start filming in Albuquerque, New Mexico on May 8th, Xeno will see Wilson taking on the role of a teenage girl befriends a terrifying alien that crash-lands in the desert near her home. As government agents close in, the girl protects her dangerous new companion while also dealing with her depressed mother and the mother’s abusive boyfriend.

Kevin Hart is producing the film through his company Hartbeat. Hartbeat’s Bryan Smiley and Luke Kelly-Clyne are also producing, alongside Oates and Shana Marie. Thai Randolph, Kevin Healey, and Ty Walker serve as executive producers for Hartbeat, and Hart’s global media company is working with The Henson Company to build the film’s alien creature. So this thing is probably going to look pretty cool.

Oates has directed multiple short films, but his only previous feature is the 2006 drama Wasted, which is also known by the title Farewell Bender and is listed on IMDb as an adventure thriller for some reason. That film had the following synopsis: Three twenty-something pals circa 1996 revisit their small-town roots to attend the funeral of their high school friend Bender. The guys spend a wild weekend reminiscing over football, booze and babes while struggling with one buddy’s self-destructive lifestyle, another’s seemingly perfect life and the other’s humiliating insecurities.

Xeno sounds like it actually will be an adventure thriller… and I’m looking forward to seeing how it’s going to turn out. Wilson is a talented young actor, and I can’t wait to see what the Henson Company does with the alien character.

In addition to the films listed above, Wilson’s credits include Deliver Us from Evil, The Millers, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Cop and a Half: New Recruit, Sharp Objects, The Haunting of Hill House, The Glorias, and Star Trek: Picard.

Does Xeno sound interesting to you? Share your thoughts on this one by leaving a comment below.

Best-Selling Author Gives Away Half a Million Copies of New Book, ‘Defender of the Faith: Ten Weird Facts About the Coronation,’ Surrounding Festivities in London May 6

Author Ray Comfort, CEO and founder of Living Waters Christian ministry, is giving away 500,000 hard copies of his book "Defender of the Faith: Ten Weird Facts about the Coronation," to U.S audiences interested in the events happening in London this weekend to celebrate King Charles III's official coronation.

According to Comfort, the book is controversial because it flies in the face of an increasingly secularized world—where many profess atheism and most don't honor the Bible. "It's ironic that during the coronation of King Charles, hundreds of millions around the world will essentially be going to church for a two-hour televised church service," Comfort said. "There they will hear many references to the Christian gospel and hear the Bible greatly honored."

The author and TV cohost is referring to the fact that during the church service, when King Charles is presented with the Bible, the Archbishop of Canterbury will say, "Sir: to keep you ever mindful of the law and the Gospel of God as the Rule for the whole life and government of Christian Princes, receive this Book, the most valuable thing that this world affords."

Comfort added, "I want people to understand the significance of the many strange things that will take place during the May 6 coronation: the meaning behind the presentation of three swords, the diamond-crusted orb, the golden scepter, the ancient coronation chair, the mysterious anointing, the king's extravagant robes, the amazing crown, and so on."

Comfort's ministry has also amassed an army of over 20,000 Christians who on coronation day will give away 16 million copies of what looks like a million-pound English note. These will not only be given freely to the millions of observers lining the streets of London, but also be given away in Europe, Canada, Australia, and other parts of the world.

"While the church service makes numerous references to the gospel, it doesn't articulate it in layman's language. And so we printed the 16 million copies of the commemorative 'million-pound note' explaining it. The word 'gospel' simply means 'good news.' And the good news is that in the Old Testament, God promised to destroy death, and in the New Testament we are told how He did it. That's actually the best news this world could ever hope to hear."

The London Outreach will be live-streamed on Living Waters' YouTube channel, where commentary will also be provided during the coronation church service.

The Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA)® — or CMA (AAMA) — credential represents a medical assistant who has been credentialed through the Certifying Board of the AAMA. The Certifying Board of the AAMA was awarded accreditation by the International Accreditation Service under ISO/IEC Standard 17024:2012, the global benchmark for personnel certification bodies, thus distinguishing the CMA (AAMA) from all other medical assisting certifications.
