Starrag’s New Bumotec Machine Picks Through the Bones of Complex Manufacturing

Starrag’s New Bumotec Machine Picks Through the Bones of Complex Manufacturing
From the 13th to the 15th of June, Starrag will be exhibiting at the Orthopedic Manufacturing & Technology Exposition and Conference (OMTEC) in Chicago. On Booth 447, the world's leading machine tool manufacturer will demonstrate its expertise in this arena by showcasing the Starrag Bumotec 191neo.

Starrag's Bumotec 191neo

Bone plate manufacturing on the Bumotec 191neo

With 12 different variants built upon a single platform, the new Starrag Bumotec 191neo is a multi-axis mill/turn center that introduces a world of flexible and highly productive machining solutions. At the OMTEC exhibition, the Starrag Bumotec 191neo will be demonstrating just how flexible, productive and capable a machine it is with the one-hit production of a bone plate. Manufactured in volume throughout the medical industry, bone plates are particularly challenging to machine - but not for the Starrag Bumotec 191neo.

For manufacturers in the medical profession, the difficulty when producing bone plates is the ability to machine and subsequently finish the plates on all six sides in a single operation whilst striving for optimized cycle times and lights-out 24/7 production. On the booth at OMTEC, the machine will feed a 1.2-inch (30 mm) diameter titanium bar into the work envelope and deploy 20 different cutting tools to 26 operations to finish machine the bone plate in under 20 minutes. The challenge, as a medical device manufacturer would appreciate, is the complex machining of a long part between two stations whilst retaining perfect synchronization. Not only does the new Starrag Bumotec 191neo productively achieve this by machining the bone plates from bar stock in its robust work envelope, but it eradicates any requirement for secondary operations.

The epitome of high-end machining, the Starrag Bumotec 191neo will machine the bone plate at OMTEC in a single operation with impeccable surface finishes, leaving a part that is burr-free and free of tabs - and then delicately placing the parts into a collection receptacle for complete unmanned production. With such stringent regulations in the medical industry, machining bone plates with absolute confidence and quality conformity whilst delivering a completely automated production cell is exactly why manufacturers need to see the Starrag Bumotec 191neo at OMTEC.

The impressive new Starrag Bumotec 191neo is available in four versions, the 'P' with vice, 'PRM' with a multi-purpose pickup vice, the 'R' with a back-working spindle and the 'RP' with a combined vice and back-working spindle. Providing a choice of bar capacities of 1.7, 2, 2.6 inch (42, 50 or 65 mm), manufacturers can choose one of 12 machine configurations that are all based upon the same rigid and extremely robust.

Maintaining unparalleled thermal and performance stability during production, the Starrag Bumotec 191neo offers a formidable level of productivity. Compared to previous models, the new machine has a new tool change system that reduces changeovers by more than 15%. The machine also has a new milling spindle with increased torque and a back-working movement that is controlled by an electric motor. This combination provides the perfect blend of high-speed cutting with the power and rigidity for increased material removal rates whilst enhancing positional control.

The high-performance Starrag spindle is fed cutting tools from its 90-position tool magazine that now has an integrated tool breakage probe to support lights-out production runs. Further advancing the automation credentials of the new machine is the option of a traditional Bumotec palletizer or a robotic, modular or custom-made automated cell that delivers true '24/7' production, which is only interrupted by preventive maintenance when required. If you want to optimize your productivity with a completely flexible solution that can undertake the machining of a diverse range of component types, please come and visit Booth 447 at the OMTEC show in June.

Blade: True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto rewriting Marvel movie

0
Blade: True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto rewriting Marvel movie

True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto has boarded Marvel’s Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali to rewrite the script.

From True Detective to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. THR has reported that Nic Pizzolatto, creator of HBO’s hit crime anthology series, is now working on Marvel’s Blade movie.

Nic Pizzolatto has previously worked with Blade star Mahershala Ali on the third season of True Detective, so this marks something of a reunion for the pair. Sources told THR that Pizzolatto has been working off the existing script by Michael Starrbury (When They See Us) for several weeks now. Ali’s work on the third season of True Detective earned him an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie.

With production on Blade expected to get underway late next month in Atlanta, Marvel must be scrambling to get the script in the best shape they can, particularly if the WGA strike happens. Yann Demange (White Boy Rick) is set to direct Blade for Marvel. In addition to Mahershala Ali, Blade will also star Delroy Lindo and Mia Goth.

The character of Blade was originally created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan for The Tomb of Dracula #10 in 1973. Blade is a half-mortal, half-immortal who hunts vampires in order to avenge his mother, who was killed by a vampire as she gave birth to him. Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) was originally attached to direct Blade, but he wound up stepping down last year, leaving Marvel to push pause on pre-production while they searched for a replacement.

Blade isn’t the only big project Nic Pizzolatto has in the works. It was reported earlier this week that he would be writing and executive producing a series adaptation of The Magnificent Seven for Amazon Studios. The official description of the reboot series reads: “In the tradition of the great epics from the golden age of Westerns, an outlaw and his cohorts must unite a disparate band of indelible fighters to defend a settlement of immigrant homesteaders in an open-range war against cattle barons in central Texas, telling an expansive saga of adventure, action, and romance.” Pizzolatto already has experience with The Magnificent Seven, as he co-wrote Antione Fuqua’s big-screen remake in 2016.

Andor: Diego Luna on the challenges of season 2 of the Star Wars series

Andor: Diego Luna on the challenges of season 2 of the Star Wars series

Diego Luna on the challenges of Andor season 2 now that the first season has become so critically acclaimed.

I don’t think many of us were expecting Andor to be as fantastic as it was, but the acclaim for the first season of the Star Wars series was incredible. With production of Andor season 2 now underway, the cast and crew are facing the pressure of living up to the first season.

It’s nice to be loved, but Diego Luna told THR that the positive reception isn’t necessarily making them more confident while shooting the new season. “What happened with season one comes with a lot of responsibility, and Tony Gillroy is the kind of writer that won’t let us just relax and celebrate,” Luna said. “Tony and his whole team are bringing it. They’re bringing more and more challenges into the mix, and structurally, it’s different. So I don’t think we are confident; I think we are just enjoying it in a way that we didn’t enjoy the first season.” Luna added that while the first season was shot during the worst times of the pandemic, the atmosphere on Andor season 2 is a little more relaxed, “So we are enjoying [it] in a different way.

Despite the challenges of the first season, the actor had a feeling that the series wasn’t going to be seen… simply because of how perfectly everything was going, especially when compared to the Rogue One movie. “I always had a feeling that this wasn’t gonna see the light [of day] till it did. (Laughs.) I kept going, ‘This is too perfect. This is working,’” Luna said. “The whole idea, I always thought, ‘That’s impossible.’ Throughout the whole process, we did exactly what we thought was best. We never prioritized anything but the show. The writing took the time it needed to take, and we got the best cast you can have. So everything just kept getting better and better, and I always had the feeling that something had to go wrong. But it didn’t. We had the freedom and the support of Disney and Lucas[film]. We had the confidence of Kathy [Kennedy] behind the show.

Andor season 2 will be flashing forward and cover a lot more ground than the first season. The conclusion of the first season found Cassian committing himself to the Rebels, but he still has a long journey ahead of him. “He says he wants to be a part of the Rebellion, but I’m not sure if he knows what that means yet,” Luna explained. “He’s basically saying, ‘I want to speak the language,’ but now he has to learn it. And so it’s going to take longer. We’re gonna go for four years [in season two], and when we find him, he’s so far away from where we left him at the end of season one. He’s basically the guy to trust for something like that mission.

The second season of Andor is expected to launch on Disney+ in August 2024.

Mark Hamill trains Cal Kestis in funny Star Wars Jedi: Survivor promo

Mark Hamill trains Cal Kestis in funny Star Wars Jedi: Survivor promo

Mark Hamill pops by to train Cameron Monaghan’s Cal Kestis in a funny promo for the release of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

It’s launch day for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the highly anticipated sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The game once again chronicles the journey of Cal Kestis, a young Jedi who survived Order 66 and remained in hiding until he became a target of the Empire. As it’s not easy being a Jedi, Mark Hamill stopped by the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor motion capture stage to give Cameron Monaghan a little advice. You can check out the fun promo video for the game above!

Picking up five years after the events of the first game, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor finds Cal Kestis beginning to feel the weight of being one of the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy as he must stay one step ahead of the Empire’s constant pursuit. Accompanied by his trusty companion BD-1, Cal will meet and ally himself with an array of unique and interesting characters on his journey. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will expand on the series’ dynamic combat in new and innovative ways. In order to survive, Cal must learn new skills and grow his connection with the Force. I found the first game to be quite enjoyable, and the sequel looks like a blast as well, particularly as the lightsaber combat has been developed even more.

Given that the in-game character model of Cal Kestis looks identical to Cameron Monaghan, there have been rumours that he could play the role in live-action as well, which the actor addressed last year. “I love this character. They’re starting to explore him through other mediums — we have a novel coming up,” Monaghan said. “It’s been really amazing doing it within the video game space because I think games are vastly under-explored and underutilized, and are only really getting their due in this moment — people are looking at games and seeing they’re incredible and moving and significant. So my priority right now is to make sure we have a satisfying arc within the games. What happens or where Star Wars wants to go from there is anybody’s guess, but I can say I love Cal and it’s been a joy finding him over the past few years. So we’ll see.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is now available on PlayStation5, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC.

TBS Dental introduces elvatome 2.0, a revolutionary dental instrument for precise and effortless tooth extractions.

elvatome 2.0

Straight elvatome 2.0

TBS Dental, a renowned dental equipment manufacturer, has proudly announced the launch of elvatome 2.0, the ultimate dental instrument for tooth extractions. Building on the success of its predecessor, the elvatome 2.0 boasts advanced engineering and craftsmanship, offering unparalleled precision, strength, and ease of use during extractions.

For years, dental practitioners have relied on traditional elevators for tooth extractions, causing significant stress on the tooth-bone complex, leading to alveolar or root fractures. The elvatome was introduced in 2019, combining the strength of a luxating elevator with the precision and sharpness of a periotome, and offering clinicians a superior alternative for multi-rooted teeth extractions. Now, TBS Dental has introduced elvatome 2.0, featuring a patent-pending TWIST handle, enhanced grip, and thicker construction for maximum rigidity and reduced clinician fatigue.

"At TBS Dental, we pride ourselves on being at the forefront of innovation and advancing the field of dentistry," said Haseeb Sajid, CEO of TBS Dental. "The release of elvatome 2.0 is the culmination of years of rigorous R&D and advanced engineering, resulting in a dental tool that offers unparalleled precision, strength, and ease of use during extractions. We are excited to bring this game-changing product to dental practitioners and contribute to the betterment of patient care."

elvatome 2.0 is designed to protect tissue, preserve bone, and enhance the patient experience during tooth extractions. The spade-shaped sharp tip effortlessly severs the periodontal ligament while expanding the alveolar bone, making extractions faster and easier than ever before. Upgrade your dental practice with this revolutionary tool and experience a new level of precision, strength, and ease during every extraction.
