Dungeons & Dragons app lets fans create own avatar

Dungeons & Dragons app lets fans create own avatar

Honor Among Thieves, the new Dungeons & Dragons movie, has a new app that lets fans create an avatar based on their favorite character type.

With early buzz on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves suggesting it could be a crossover hit, Paramount has initiated the launch of a new app that will let die-hards and rookies alike immerse themselves in the franchise, almost literally, creating an avatar based around their favorite Dungeons & Dragons characters.

Paramount has teamed with Lightricks (the company behind Facetune and Photoleap) for an app which will “let fans create images of themselves as their favorite DnD characters to share or post on their social platforms…These Dungeon and Dragons avatars let fans join in the fun and build characters that immerse them deeper into their game experience.” Through the process, fans can download the Photoleap app, upload 10-20 pictures of themselves and within minutes they’ll have a custom avatar. That’s a heck of a lot less effort than going through an entire campaign!

Through the app, fans can turn themselves into a number of Dungeons & Dragons character types, including a music and magic-forward Bard, a justice-wielding knight, a nature-focused Druid, and more. But no, you will never have the jawline of Chris Pine nor the charm to convince Michelle Rodriguez to go on a date.

Apps such as the one for the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie not only serve as promotion, but actually give users something to do “within” the world. Another recent example is the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts app, which uses augmented reality to let fans scan the movie’s touring statues to unlock various videos, stickers, etc.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves follows “a charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers as they embark on an epic quest to retrieve a lost relic. Things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people.” Directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, the movie stars Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, and more. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves comes to theaters on March 31st.

Will you create your own Dungeons and Dragons avatar using the app? Are you going to check out Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves when it hits theaters? Let us know in the comments section below!

Mother Mary: Michaela Coel and Anne Hathaway to star in a David Lowery-directed pop music melodrama for A24

Mother Mary: Michaela Coel and Anne Hathaway to star in a David Lowery-directed pop music melodrama for A24

The Green Knight director David Lowery is reteaming with the A24 for Mother Mary starring Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel.

The Green Knight director David Lowery is reteaming with A24 for his next feature Mother Mary. Lowery directs from a script he wrote with Anne Hathaway (The Dark Knight RisesRachel Getting Married) and Michaela Coel (Black Panther: Wakanda ForeverI May Destroy You) leading the cast.

According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, Mother Mary is an “epic pop melodrama following a fictional musician (Hathaway) and her relationship with an iconic fashion designer (Coel).” Lowery, Toby Halbrooks, and James M. Johnston produce with Jeanie Igoe of Homebird Productions and Jonas Katzenstein. Maximilian Leo and Jonathan Saubach of Filmproduktion also produce. The musically-charged project will feature original songs written and arranged by Jack Antonoff and Charli XCX, with an original score by Daniel Hart.

Hathaway is prepping multiple projects in post-production, including The Idea of You and Mother’s Instinct. Hathaway plays Sophie in The Idea of You. The story revolves around a 40-year-old divorced mother who braves the heat to go with her daughter to Coachella after her dad cancels his trip with his 15-year-old. There, she meets the lead singer of a band, and shenanigans ensue. For Mother’s Instinct, Hathway stars alongside Jessica Chastain as Celine and Alice, respectively. The duo lives a traditional lifestyle with successful husbands and sons of the same age. Life’s perfect harmony shatters after a tragic accident. Guilt, suspicion, and paranoia combine to unravel their sisterly bond.

After starring in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and the series I May Destroy You and Chewing Gum, Michaela Cole is filming the new Mr. and Mrs. Smith television series. The show stars Donald Glover (AtlantaCommunity) and Maya Erskine (PEN 15Obi-Wan Kenobi), with Tuari Wright, Sid Jarvis, and Katrina Canillas. The series is an adaptation of the 2005 action film about married spies.

With Lowery behind the camera, Mother Mary could be a visually splendiferous saga about fame, glamour, and the complicated relationships we forge while trying to remain at the top of the game. I’d like to know what type of relationship Hathaway and Coel’s respective characters will have in Lowery’s new film. Color me intrigued and eager to learn more as this project develops.

With over a million views on YouTube alone, the catchy ditty is already smash hit.

Chicken Scratch

Chicken Scratch commercial from Chino Valley Ranchers featuring country artist Nate Kenyon

Chino Valley Ranchers, a California-based producer of sustainably raised eggs, is celebrating its win of the 2023 MUSE Platinum Creative Award, Season 1. This is the second time Chino Valley has taken highest honors for its fresh approach to advertising eggs.

The MUSE Awards are a series of competitions hosted by the International Awards Associate (IAA), an organization that continuously strives to honor creatives and designers for excellence. For its first competitive season in 2023, the competition received over 6,300 entries. Leading industry professionals from around the globe serve as the competition's jury, upholding IAA's uncompromising standards of merit and impartiality.

Thomas Brandt, spokesperson of IAA, said, "It is humbling to see the level of craft displayed in the submitted works. Our most sincere commendations go out to those behind said works and for setting such a high standard for excellence for all to follow."

The winning ad, titled Chicken Scratch, is presented in a music-video format and features a lovelorn rancher jilted by his favorite chicken who has flown the coop for Chino Valley. A string of puns delivered in convincing country heartbreak style culminate in the tagline, "The Grass Is Greener at Chino Valley." (View the ad here.)

The song was written and performed by Nathan Kenyon at Anthem Entertainment/BMI, with supplemental lyrics composed by Alex Ribble, founder of Big Chief Creative Media (BCCM) — the agency behind the ad. Additional credits go to the ad's Writer/Director Tyler Wolff, Director of Photography Keith Leman, Editor/VFX A.J. Rickert-Epstein, and Music Producer Gabe Foust.

With over a million views on YouTube alone, the catchy ditty is already a smash hit. Nate Kenyon's performance is irresistible, and viewers hope the ad will run again just so they can learn the words and sing along.

Chino Valley has recently been stirring up the food industry with a series of comedic digital ads designed to entertain viewers. A previous ad, Special Delivery, features a package delivery driver who wanders into a gender reveal party right at the climax, only to hilariously say the absolute wrong thing at the wrong time. Special Delivery also took home the platinum in the 2022 MUSE Creative Awards, Season 2. (View the ad here.)

Black Mass: Devanny Pinn directing 1970s serial killer thriller

Black Mass: Devanny Pinn directing 1970s serial killer thriller

Prolific genre actor Devanny Pinn is making her feature directorial debut with Black Mass, a serial killer thriller set in the 1970s

Devanny Pinn has almost 90 screen acting credits to her name, with many of those credits being for roles she has played in horror film. Credits include Frost, Death Count, Pretty Boy, The Sunday Night Slaughter, The Dawn, Crossbreed, Death Hotel, Lilith, Party Bus to Hell, Scary Story Slumber Party, Dwelling, House of Manson, The Devil’s Nightmare, The Black Dahlia Haunting, and The Los Angeles Ripper. Now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Pinn is making her feature directorial debut with a thriller of her own, a 1970s serial killer tale called Black Mass, which started filming in Los Angeles last Friday.

Inspired by real events, Black Mass is set over a 24-hour period in Florida during the winter of 1978 when college girls were being stalked by a serial killer. Eric Pereira and Brandon Slagle wrote the screenplay.

Pinn has assembled a cool cast for the film, and some of the names will be very familiar to fans of the horror genre. Cast members include Lew Temple (The Devil’s Rejects), Jeremy London (Mallrats), Lisa Wilcox (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master), Michelle Romano (Escape From Ensenada), Kathleen Kinmont (Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers), Eva Hamilton (Mutilator 2), Chelsea Gilson (The Wrong Cheer Captain), Jenny Wenger (Battle for Saipan), Eileen Dietz (The Exorcist), Andrew Sykes (Suburbicon), Jennifer Lynn Warren (American Horror Story), and Susan Lanier (Wes Craven’s The Hills Have Eyes).

Black Mass is being produced by Pinn’s Jaguar Motion Pictures and Roman Media for Cleopatra Entertainment. Slagle serves as executive producer alongside Brian Perera, Yvonne Perera, Gigi Jankowski, and Miranda Mariposa. Tim Yasui is co-producer, and Lanier is an associate producer, as is Anjanette Miller.

Pinn provided the following statement: “I’m grateful to Cleopatra for giving me the opportunity to direct my first feature with them. They continue to be supportive of me and independent art.

I think it’s awesome that Pinn is making her feature directorial debut, and Black Mass sounds very interesting to me. I’m looking forward to seeing how it’s going to turn out – and to seeing those cast members in a story like this.

How does Black Mass sound to you? Are you a fan of Devanny Pinn’s work? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Gears of War: Netflix sets Dune screenwriter Jon Spaihts to pen the action-packed adaptation

Gears of War: Netflix sets Dune screenwriter Jon Spaihts to pen the action-packed adaptation

Dune screenwriter Jon Spaihts is writing Netflix’s Gears of War movie, bringing the popular Xbox game franchise to life in live-action.

Jon Spaihts (DunePart One & Two) is ready to go to war, Gears of War! The Oscar-nominated writer is gassing up his Lancer Assault Rifle for Netflix’s anticipated adaptation of the beloved Xbox game franchise as part of a widespread campaign to level up the property for mass appeal. In addition to the Gears of War movie, Netflix is partnering with The Coalition to produce an adult animated series and other projects based on the video game property.

The original Gears of War trilogy focuses on a war between humanity and the subterranean reptilian hominids known as the Locust Horde in Sera. As the battle rages on, other factions, including the Horde’s mutated counterparts, the Lambent, enter the fray. With bodies piling up on all sides, parts of the world become little more than a smoldering crater amidst a war-torn wasteland.

Those with memories longer than mine will recall that this isn’t the first time Gears of War was set to head to screens. Back in 2007, New Line Cinema snagged up the rights to make a Gears of War movie with Len Wiseman (Live Free Or Die Hard) set to take on directing duties, but after several years in development hell, New Line had to let go of the Gears of War property. After Wiseman’s adaptation took a Lancer to the chest, Universal picked up the rights with Microsoft along for the wild ride. Universal’s version also died, leaving GOW in the wind for another day.

Since the adaptation’s announcement in November, Glass Onion and Knock at the Cabin star Dave Bautista has voiced his interest in starring in the project. It only took Bautista a few days to express his desire to go against the Horde for Netflix’s upcoming adaptation, and fans of the franchise are down for his involvement.

“I can’t make this any easier,” Bautista said in a Twitter post in November. The post includes a video of the actor suiting up in official Gears of War armor, saying, “It’s about fucking time,” referring to the opportunity to star in a proper Gears of War live-action adaptation.

Spaihts is a hell of a catch for Netflix’s Gears of War film. His work on Denis Villeneuve’s Dune sent fans of the sci-fi franchise into a frenzy upon the film’s release, with everyone and their grandmother anticipating the sequel later this year.

What do you think about Spaihts penning Netflix’s Gears of War movie? Will Bautista star in the upcoming adaptation? Feel free to let us know what you think in the comments below.

Raleigh Company Jigsawdio Receives NIH Grant for Audiovisual Jigsaw Puzzle Device
Grant supports development and use study for puzzle created for the Alzheimer's and dementia populations.

Jigsawdio, a woman-owned small business headquartered in Raleigh, N.C.,received a $500,000 Science and Technology Transfer (STTR) grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to fund the prototype development and use study of its audiovisual jigsaw puzzle device created specifically for the Alzheimer's and dementia populations.

"I've seen nothing like this for any population," said Jigsawdio founder and CEO Amy Young. "It is a unique platform designed for those with memory loss to engage with the meaningful aspects of their life."

The puzzle, composed of acrylic pieces played in a soundframe, incorporates images and audio stories specific to an individual with memory loss.

"Users play their collection of physical personalized jigsaw puzzles on a displayable frame," said Young. "Each puzzle has six 'sound' pieces that play recordings that narrate the image associated with that part of the puzzle. It is the only jigsaw puzzle with pieces that play recordable sound."

Young, who worked in educational technology prior to founding Jigsawdio, explained that interest in developing such a product for children led to conversations with people whose grandparents could not remember their grandchildren.

"This product is being made specifically for individuals with Alzheimer's and dementia and other memory issues," said Young. "Statistics show that there are not enough caregivers to offer the personal attention to keep members of these populations engaged. Much of their time is spent in very passive activities.

"Jigsawdio (Patent Pending) hopes to provide a way to engage them more socially. It is personally relevant and easy to use. We have an IOS App that guides people step by step in loading their images and sounds to create their puzzles. While the puzzle is not yet available for purchase, the first version of the app is ready now in the App Store."

Supported by engineer and design companies for its hardware, firmware, software, and hard acrylic pieces, theJigsawdio prototypes currently include 12-, 24-, and 36-piece puzzle options, which will be completed by April. The puzzle then enters a custom six-week study.

"This study, conducted by researchers from Indiana University, will include participants' family members and caregivers who can provide feedback and ideas to create a puzzle, including present and past events, hobbies, favorite pets, and stories," Young said.

"The study will measure the emotional aspects of the images and sounds to the participants, what they like and how they respond, as well as how they engage.

"Jigsawdio is 'The puzzle that speaks to you.' Our goal is to improve the mood and quality of life of and bring joy to those with memory loss."

ZetrOZ Systems will present and exhibit its sam® X1 and 2.0 devices at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Trainers' Association's (RMATA) 2023 Annual Clinical Symposium to be held at the Hilton Denver City Center in Denver, CO, March 23-26.

On Friday, March 24, Founder and CEO George K. Lewis will make a presentation on sustained acoustic medicine (sam) and highlight the sam® 2.0 and sam® X1 units, beginning at 2:30 p.m. MDT.

ZetrOZ will also be part of the Educators Roundtable and the Career Enhancement meetings on March 23 and a presentation in the Secondary Schools roundtable room on March 24. It will show the sam® X1 and 2.0 units to the Athletic Trainers and sports medicine physicians at the event.

ZetrOZ will demonstrate how the sam units can help patients supercharge their injury-healing process. The long-duration soft-tissue repair ultrasound device provides healthcare professionals with a proven method of accelerating and enhancing soft tissue healing.

"Sustained acoustic medicine is a powerful complement to the care that sports medicine doctors and athletic trainers provide," Lewis said. "With a track record of effectiveness in dozens of clinical studies and hundreds of thousands of cases, our cellular activating ultrasound device gives healthcare professionals another way to help their patients."

The sam® X1 and 2.0 units soft tissue treatment devices are the only FDA-cleared, drug-free, and non-invasive wearable ultrasound units of their kind approved for daily home use. Their low-intensity, long-duration ultrasound treatment expedites the injury healing process and is clinically proven by over 30 studies to reduce joint pain, treat pain and improve function.

With support from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and other reputed health organizations, ZetrOZ Systems has researched and developed sustained acoustic medicine technology into a powerful, non-invasive alternative to invasive surgery and potentially addictive pain medication.

"Simply the most versatile regenerative pain relief ultrasound device treatment for soft tissue injuries and joint arthritis," Lewis said. "It generates soft tissue healing in the comfort of home."

Sustained acoustic medicine is a low-intensity, long-duration, daily ultrasound treatment that can reduce the need for pain medication and surgery. Using mechanobiological technology, sam® increases blood vessel diameters to improve blood flow, increasing oxygenated hemoglobin at the site and removing cytokine enzymes and cellular waste. The result is more rapid healing and reduced pain.

OneMain Financial: The Best Way to Get Money for Home Improvements

0
OneMain Financial: The Best Way to Get Money for Home Improvements

OneMain Financial: Home improvements are exciting, and the fact that they can increase a home's value is an added bonus. Fortunately, those who look to renovate their home have funding options such as home improvement loans, so they don't need to rely solely on savings. Factors like the size and scope of the project and individual financial situations can help determine which option is best. Below, learn more about several of the most common ways to cover the cost of home improvements.

Save and pay with cash

In a perfect world, homeowners save enough to pay cash for home improvement projects. By creating a budget and sticking to it, reducing expenses, and increasing income, they may be able to do just that. Paying in cash can help avoid taking on debt and save on interest costs and other fees. Of course, the major drawback here is that they may have to delay the project until they've saved enough.

Home improvement loan

Home improvement loans are personal loans from banks, credit unions, and online lenders. In most cases, loans come with fast funding via direct deposit. While borrowing amounts vary from lender to lender, some offer up to $100,000 in funding. Depending on the lender, this type of loan may have varying fees and repayment terms when compared to other lending options.

Home equity line of credit (HELOC)

Homeowners who have equity in a home, i.e., the difference between what they owe on their mortgage and what their home is worth, may qualify for a home equity line of credit, commonly known as a HELOC. A HELOC is a revolving line of credit, meaning the borrower can withdraw funds as needed during a set timeframe. This flexibility makes the HELOC a good option for lengthier, more expensive home improvement projects. However, those who go this route should understand that if they default on payments, the lender can foreclose on the property.

Home equity loan

Just as with the HELOC, a home equity loan allows the homeowner to tap into their home's equity. Also referred to as second mortgages, home equity loans provide the borrower with an upfront lump sum of money that is repaid with regular monthly payments. Home equity loans make sense for small to medium-sized home improvement projects. But as is the case with a HELOC, the borrower's home can be on the line if they fail to make payments.

Credit card

Credit cards can be the right choice for the homeowner who plans minor home improvements. Card issuers offer 0% annual percentage rate (APR) introductory or promotional offers, giving the cardholder the option to fund renovations interest-free for a set period. While the APR may be 0%, there is frequently a transaction fee associated with the offer. If the cardholder defaults on monthly minimum payments or fails to repay the balance when the introductory or promotional period ends, the remaining balance will be subject to the standard APR the issuer disclosed. That APR will likely be much higher than 0%.

The Bottom Line

There are a variety of borrowing options for homeowners considering a home improvement project. By exploring all of them and weighing their pros and cons along with the specifics of the project, a homeowner is better equipped to identify the right solution.
