Michael Douglas wants control over his likeness after he dies

Michael Douglas wants control over his likeness after he dies

At 78, Michael Douglas is wondering if he has to protect his name and likeness from the threat of the metaverse after he dies.

From the multiverse to metaverse, Michael Douglas is weighing the options of what will happen to his likeness after he passes on. In a recent “reader interview” with The Guardian, one follower asked, “Would you sell your digital image so you can continue to star in movies after you are dead?”

Michael Douglas responded, “You get to an age where you start thinking about your will and estate. Now I’m thinking I’m also going to have to license my name and likeness so the rights go to my family rather than to the metaverse. I see what AI is doing with pictures with text. It’s only matter of time before you’ll be able to recreate any dead person at any age with the voice and the mannerisms, so I want to have some control.”

Artificial intelligence has indeed made its presence known as of late. While certainly nothing new, the advancements can’t be denied. One significant component is deepfake technology, which Michael Douglas isn’t the only one skeptical of. Keanu Reeves recently pondered its use and threat, saying, “When you give a performance in a film, you know you’re going to be edited, but you’re participating in that. If you go into deepfake land, it has none of your points of view. That’s scary…Early on…I had a performance changed…They added a tear to my face, and I was just like, ‘Huh?!’ It was like, I don’t even have to be here.”

One wonders if Reeves is onto something here. With the news that Michael Douglas is set to play Benjamin Franklin, does the actor even need to be on set at all? Did he even need to be cast? Really, couldn’t Apple just create another version of The First American out of artificial intelligence and deepfake technology? This might be a slight exaggeration, but on the performance front, it is getting to the point where actors may truly have to consider their legacy–not the movies they’re leaving behind, but how they might be used even generations later, with or without permission. Let us never forget Fred Astaire dancing with a vacuum cleaner…

How do you feel about actors licensing their likeness? How far will artificial intelligence and deepfake technology go? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Assault on Precinct 13 (1976) – WTF Happened to This Horror Movie?

The new episode of the WTF Happened to This Horror Movie? video series looks back at John Carpenter’s Assault on Precinct 13

We’re getting the week started with a new episode of the WTF Happened to This Horror Movie? video series, and in this one we’re looking back at an early film from one our of legendary “masters of horror”: John Carpenter. The movie in question is the very cool action thriller Assault on Precinct 13 (watch it HERE), and you can find out all about it in the embed above.

Written and directed by John Carpenter, who was drawing inspiration from the Howard Hawks / John Wayne Western Rio Bravo and George A. Romero‘s Night of the Living Dead, Assault on Precinct 13 has the following synopsis: When the LAPD kills several members of the South Central gang Street Thunder, the remaining members avenge themselves by way of a bloody war waged against cops and citizens alike. Caught in the crossfire is Lt. Ethan Bishop, who’s managing a skeleton crew at the local and soon-to-be-closed police precinct. As the gang members close in, Bishop forms an unlikely alliance with a group of prisoners in order to defend the station and the lives of everyone in it.

The film stars Austin Stoker, Darwin Joston, Laurie Zimmer, Martin West, Tony Burton, Charles Cyphers, Nancy Loomis, Peter Bruni, John J. Fox, Marc Ross, Alan Koss, Henry Brandon, Kim Richards, Frank Doubleday, Gilbert De La Pena, Peter Frankland, Al Nakauchi, James Johnson, and Gilman Rankin.

This is what the WTF Happened to This Horror Movie series is all about: Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster, but were beset with unforeseen disasters. Sometimes huge hits, sometimes box office bombs. Either way, we have to ask: WTF Happened To This Horror Movie?

The Assault on Precinct 13 episode of WTF Happened to This Horror Movie? was Written by Mike Conway, Edited by Lance Vlcek, Narrated by Jason Hewlett, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.

The new episode of the Modern Horror Movie Talk video series covers the newly released Children of the Corn, directed by Kurt Wimmer

Films discussed in the first episode of Modern Horror Movie Talk included Cocaine Bear, Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving, and The Pope’s Exorcist. Now the second episode of Modern Horror Movie Talk is online, and in this one Tyler is joined by special guest Mike Conway to discuss the new Children of the Corn movie, which was just released last week. (Read our review HERE, watch our interview with the director and cast members HERE.) To find out what Tyler and Mike had to say about Children of the Corn, check out the video embedded above!

Written and directed by Kurt Wimmer (and inspired, of course, by the Stephen King short story), this Children of the Corn has the following synopsis: Possessed by a spirit in a dying cornfield, a twelve-year-old girl in Nebraska recruits the other children in her small town to go on a bloody rampage and kill all the adults and anyone else who opposes her. A bright high schooler who won’t go along with the plan is the town’s only hope of survival.

The film stars Elena Kampouris, Kate Moyer, Callan Mulvey, and Bruce Spence.

This Children of the Corn was produced by Lucas Foster, Doug Barry, John Baldecchi, and Pam Collis. Executive producers are Wimmer, Mathieu Bonzon, Pascal Borno, John Fragomeni, Brian LaRoda, Keri Nakamoto, Andre Gaines, Sean Harner, and Donald P. Borchers – who produced the 1984 version of Children of the Corn and directed the 2009 remake. Other entries in the franchise include Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice, Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest, Children of the Corn: The Gathering, Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror, Children of the Corn 666: Isaac’s Return, Children of the Corn: Revelation, Children of the Corn: Genesis, and Children of the Corn: Runaway.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem: New teaser trailer for the animated film from Seth Rogen drops online

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem: New teaser trailer for the animated film from Seth Rogen drops online

The animated film from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg show our heroes in a half-shell as true teenagers in the new reboot.

Cowabunga, dudes! After the cast announcement over the weekend for the new movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Paramount now throws the new trailer online with a ninja star. The new animated adventure comedy comes from Seth Rogen as he takes on producing duties with long-time producing partner Evan Goldberg. The new animated film is a brand new interpretation of the popular franchise and will have no relation to the big-screen adaptations produced by explosion maestro Michael Bay.

The official synopsis reads:

After years of being sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers through heroic acts. Their new friend April O’Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in over their heads when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them.

Rogen has stated that this version will emphasize the fact that they’re teenagers, and the trailer certainly shows these reptilian brothers being as youthful as they ever have been as they goof around and fumble about when handling their weapons. The animation style is a unique one that looks similar to the concept art released last year, as well as showcasing a low frame rate look made popular by Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse and used in the latest Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

Little is shown of the list of rogues in the movie as the Mutant Mayhem title suggests, a bevy of mutant characters from the classic animated series will be making appearances, including Bebop and Rocksteady, Genghis Frog, Ray Filet, Mondo Gecko, and Leatherhead.

The cast that’s been most recently announced includes an ensemble with Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Hannibal Buress, Rose Byrne, Nicolas Cantu, John Cena, Jackie Chan, Ice Cube, Natasia Demetriou, Ayo Edebiri, Giancarlo Esposito, Post Malone, Brady Noon, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, and Maya Rudolph.

Taking up directing duties will be Jeff Rowe, who recently helmed The Mitchells vs. the Machines, and co-director Kyler Spears, writer of We Bare Bears. Ramsay McBean and Josh Fagen are executive producing the project with James Weaver joining Rogen and Goldberg as producers.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem will hit theaters on August 4.

How Credit Scores Are Changing to Give People More Access to Credit

How Credit Scores Are Changing to Give People More Access to Credit

Credello: Since the first FICO scoring model was released in 1989, few updates have been made to how credit reporting agencies tally your score. That's all begun to change thanks to the economic conditions younger generations face. With the lack of options for homeownership and other reasons to apply for large loans, both Millennials and Gen Z are disrupting the traditional borrowing world and forcing banks, and the reporting agencies they use for credit scores, to adjust.

Here's a quick overview of how multiple credit scoring models are coming into the mainstream and how they can affect your options for borrowing money.

A quick overview of traditional credit scoring models

Banks and lenders use three reporting agencies to pull your credit score: Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax. These agencies use one of two scoring models:

FICO - The Fair Isaac Corporation created the first credit score, and their model is the most popular method. FICO scores range from 300-850 and are based on five weighted factors:

  • On-time payments (35%)
  • Amounts owed (30%)
  • Length of credit history (15%)
  • New credit (10%)
  • Credit mix (10%)

VantageScore - Created in 2006 by the three reporting agencies, this score is more weighted on your number of on-time payments than a FICO score and is easier to get (it typically takes a month to generate a VantageScore while FICO scores aren't determined until after six months). It also uses the range of 300-850 and has multiple weighted factors in determining your score:

  • On-time payments (40%)
  • Amounts owed (34%), which is the sum of:
  • Credit utilization (20%)
  • Balances (11%)
  • Available credit (3%)
  • Depth of credit (21%)
  • Recent credit applications (5%)

The new models becoming available

As the younger generations dominate the workforce, it's becoming clear that traditional methods of generating credit scores aren't working anymore. Thankfully, new options are coming into the marketplace to make getting approved for borrowing money more in line with the current economy:

Experian Boost - Launched in 2019 by Experian, this is an optional program anyone can sign up for that wants to improve their FICO scores. The "boost" comes from Experian looking into your financial history to see how well you pay bills on time. If your history shows a strong record for keeping on track with bill payments for things like rent, utilities, streaming services, etc., you can expect an instant increase in your credit score.

UltraFICO - Launched in 2018 by FICO, fintech company Finicity, and Experian, this option utilizes your banking activity to give a more comprehensive picture of you as a potential borrower. It looks at the length of time you've had accounts other than loans or credit cards open, the recency and frequency of your bank transactions, evidence of whether or not you have consistent cash on hand, and your history of maintaining positive balances in your checking and savings accounts.

CreditXpert - CreditXpert focuses more on mortgages than general credit scores and is designed to help potential homeowners locate opportunities to get the best rate and loan terms. CreditXpert factors in both your consumer FICO score and a mortgage score lenders use to generate a more comprehensive score that helps lenders better understand you as a borrower and opens up more opportunities for you to find the best deal possible.

The bottom line

A few new models are coming into the mainstream, making how banks and lenders score your creditworthiness more in line with the current economic climate. Make sure to keep up to date on which models are being used so you can have the best chance of securing the loan you want.

Citadel: first trailer for the big-budget Russo Bros series with Richard Madden & Priyanka Chopra Jonas

Citadel: first trailer for the big-budget Russo Bros series with Richard Madden & Priyanka Chopra Jonas

The first trailer for Anthony and Joe Russo’s big-budget Prime Video spy series, Citadel, has been released.

Fresh off launching a global spy franchise for Netflix with The Grey Man, the Russo Bros are at it again with the global launch of Citadel, a big-budget spy show the duo is producing for Prime Video. The studio has finally unveiled the first trailer for this massive production which is to spawn global spin-offs, with instalments (that are already filming) set for Italy and India.

The series stars Game of Thrones and Eternals vet Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas as two former spies who work for the titular organization. As per the official synopsis:

Eight years ago, Citadel fell. The independent global spy agency—tasked to uphold the safety and security of all people—was destroyed by operatives of Manticore, a powerful syndicate manipulating the world from the shadows. With Citadel’s fall, elite agents Mason Kane (Richard Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) had their memories wiped as they narrowly escaped with their lives. They’ve remained hidden ever since, building new lives under new identities, unaware of their pasts. Until one night, when Mason is tracked down by his former Citadel colleague, Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci), who desperately needs his help to prevent Manticore from establishing a new world order. Mason seeks out his former partner, Nadia, and the two spies embark on a mission that takes them around the world in an effort to stop Manticore, all while contending with a relationship built on secrets, lies, and a dangerous-yet-undying love.

The series, which co-stars Stanely Tucci and Leslie Manville recently had a global event for the trailer, in which Anthony and Joe Russo outlined their vision for the franchise.

“This is a really unique television event and I think that’s what excites Anthony and I the most about it,” stated Joe Russo. “The concept was an idea that Jen Salke presented to us a few years ago. The notion of telling a story that could be interwoven throughout the world. It would have a flagship show and then regional shows. You know, written, produced and directed by regional talent that could interweave with the flagship show. And we thought that, one, that was such a novel idea for a narrative. And, two, an amazing way to create a really diverse global community of storytellers to tell a giant mosaic of a narrative together. And after our work on the Marvel films and spending so much time traveling the globe, this was an idea I think that was really exciting to Anthony and I and ignitable for us. And seemed like an incredible challenge.”

Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Nadia Sinh

For Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who in addition to her work in North American has as a long career as the lead in Bollywood blockbusters, Citadel was a unique challenge:

“I think the show has so many layers and complexities and there’s a word that we used from the beginning which was duality for every character. What you see is what you don’t get. Don’t believe what you see. Everything is just conceptually crazy. And it’s just so exciting to be able to share it with the world because it’s been a long time in the making because it’s so ambitious. And I’m very excited about it.”

While co-star Richard Madden has experience in action with Game of Thrones, his hit series Bodyguard and Eternals, Citadel is a different experience:

“There’s huge set pieces in this, and that’s something that’s amazing to be part of. And not only that, but I think oftentimes, we see shows that are 80 percent drama, 20 percent action or vice versa. And this show aimed to be 100 percent of both. And I think that’s what we’ve managed to pull off ‘cause in the middle of these huge sequences with explosions and cars blowing up and all of that that I don’t want to spoil for you, we have this really kind of intimate drama between these two characters and how they dance together. So, for me, that’s what was so exciting about these huge action pieces was that they are infused with heart and drama and storytelling. We get to see a lot about these characters, how they physically interact, not just great action sequences but there’s drama at the heart of each one of them.”

Citadel premieres on Prime Video on April 28th with two episodes. Weekly episodes will follow until the finale on May 26th.

Are you looking forward to Citadel?

How Being Single in 2023 Can Cost You a Whole Lot in Rent

How Being Single in 2023 Can Cost You a Whole Lot in Rent

Credello: If you're single, you might find a lot to enjoy about it. You can come and go just as you like, and you can create a lifestyle that suits you without having to consider anyone else. It's not for everyone, but some people like it very much.

It's not all sunshine and roses, though. Being single in 2023 can cost you a lot of money in rent. If you're putting off marriage to avoid debt, you might realize after reading this article that it's not the perfect strategy you thought it was. We'll discuss why living alone can backfire financially in the following article.

What Is the Singles Tax?

There's a concept you might hear about, particularly if you live in a pricey city like New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, or Chicago. The residents of these cities call it the "singles tax."

This is not literally a tax that exists on single people. That would be a ludicrous concept. The single-person tax means that you're paying significantly more to rent an apartment on your own than you'd pay if you were married or living with a partner.

If you scoff at this concept, try living in a city like New York on your own. You can easily pay as much as an extra $15K or even $20K if you rent an apartment by yourself versus renting one with a spouse or partner.

Are There Cities Where This Tax Is Lower?

If you don't plan on getting married anytime soon or moving in with a partner, you might wonder whether there are places where this singles tax doesn't hit you as hard. There are certain cities where it's not as bad. Reports indicate that in Cleveland or Detroit, you'll pay less than an extra $5K, on average, if you live by yourself versus living with a spouse or partner.

The cost of living in these cities, as opposed to the ones we mentioned, is cheaper overall, but moving is only an option if you feel you can do it from a professional standpoint. If you have a job in a more expensive city that you'd be reluctant to leave behind, you may have no choice but to stay put.

Are There Other Ways to Avoid the Single Tax?

If you're not at the right point in your life for a relationship, it would be unreasonable to get into one just to avoid the singles tax. If you're not determined to live alone and keep paying the higher rent, then getting a roommate or multiple roommates probably makes the most sense.

If you do this, you don't have quite as much freedom as you'd have if you lived alone, but at least you have people who will share the rent cost with you. If you find some individuals who seem like they could be friends with you or who you can at least tolerate, this becomes a viable option.

The Singles Tax Matters

Though not a literal tax on being single, there's no denying that if you live by yourself, you'll pay a lot more in rent every year, especially if you live in a more expensive city. If you're in a committed relationship already, you might consider proposing marriage so you can move in together and split the rent. You might also think about cohabitating, even if you're not ready to marry.

If you're not in a relationship and have no plans of getting into one, you might consider moving to a less expensive city to pay less of a single-person tax. You can also look into getting some roommates, especially if you can find some with whom you can be friends. Failing that, you should at least tolerate them.

These are the optimal ways to get around the singles tax. It's real and can impact your life every year until you decide to do something about it.

Aflac: How to Find the Best Life Insurance for Veterans

0
Aflac: How to Find the Best Life Insurance for Veterans

Aflac: The military typically takes care of many of veterans' needs, including providing inexpensive life insurance. But in some cases, it might be more favorable for you to consider other life insurance options. Some important factors that can help you decide on a life insurance policy include researching providers and comparing policy types. Here's what you need to know about how life insurance for veterans works and how you can find the best life insurance plan.

How life insurance for veterans works

When you are no longer an active-duty military member, there are four options that you can consider for life insurance:

You can let your servicemembers' group life insurance expire and buy private life insurance. This option is best for veterans who have no severe health conditions, as they will qualify for a cheaper policy.

If you're happy with your current SGLI, you can convert it to veterans group life insurance. This needs to be done within 485 days of leaving active duty.

If you know you want private insurance but currently have health concerns, you can convert your SGLI to private life insurance within 120 days of leaving active duty without taking a medical exam1.

Lastly, you can convert your SGLI to a VGLI and then convert the VGLI into private coverage. There are providers who allow veterans to convert a VGLI into a civilian policy at any time without a health screening. You're able to have more time to compare different quotes for private life insurance to make sure you're getting the best rates. Here are a few ideas that can help you with finding the best life insurance policy:

Research providers

When you're researching a life insurance provider, look at customer reviews to see how good their service has been. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners has a complaint index that evaluates whether a company received more or fewer complaints than expected. J.D. Power also has a customer satisfaction ranking where you can see how a company is ranked compared to others. Beyond reviews and ratings, look into whether a provider offers the specific policies and features you need. It's also a good idea to make sure the life insurance company is financially sound by looking them up on independent rating agencies, such as A.M. Best and Fitch.

Compare policy types

Two common types of life insurance policies are term life insurance and whole life insurance. While two companies may carry the same policy type, what each insurance company offers will vary. Compare each company by the specific type of insurance you're considering to see which one is the best fit for your needs.

Compare life insurance quotes

In most cases, an insurance company will offer you a free quote online. It's important to get quotes from several companies as rates will differ. You could contact an independent insurance agent who works with different insurance companies or use a website that can get you quotes from multiple companies. Comparing quotes between different insurance companies can guide you to the best coverage at an affordable price. Be sure to follow all these tips when you're looking for a life insurance plan that fits your needs as a veteran.

This is an in-office treatment performed by an esthetician that works by stimulating the skin from beneath the surface, smoothing the appearance of neck wrinkles and acne scars with little to no downtime. Skinpen is celebrating their fifth anniversary by giving five people the chance to win a SkinPen treatment. Follow @SkinPen on Instagram for details on the contest.
